You can't plant seeds and then stray
Your seed is planted but I don't want to stay.

How many hearts will cause a man to fume
How many heats must be enraged with fire
How many hearts will a hungry soul consume
How many hearts actually follow their life's desire

How many hearts are frozen without a beat
How many hearts are left buried in the cold
How many hearts except total utter defeat
How many hearts never take off the blindfold

These questions we may never know
until we are the lost wandering souls
in the Styx's black meadow
while loved ones are left to condole

Start the happy synth
Cue the steady drum
Come in with the sly bass
Whistle the hipster hum
Move your feet to match pace
Dance with me now love

A chemical swirl got us moving
A chemical swirl will put us to sleep
But for now, while night is looming
Don’t stop moving those feet.

My hands pull
the horizon down

charting lands unexplored
by my eyes

the horizon tossed
to the floor

the world has
never looked this

beautiful.

I have charted
many similar maps

But none of
those I wanted

to get lost
but now I

don't care if
I forever stay

wandering.

I stare into
those celestial constellations

and study the
stories they tell

worship the fire
that now ignites

the hearth within
this ramshackle skeleton

Finally
My
Flesh
Grows
And
I
Can
Feel
Love(d).

In the skeletal remains of the night
an echoing whimper of a frightening cry

"Daddy, there's monsters where there's no light."

I join under the covers and hum a soft lullaby

Daddy is here to protect
of all that haunts in the night
no cranny left unchecked
no monster left to fright

Sobbing, you moved your tiny body closer
threw your little arm around
laid your head on my shoulder
"Thank you daddy"
was your final sound

Eyes finally closed
breathing finally slowed
embraced and composed
your dream I borrowed.

Got jumped going down the alley
by a couple of bottles and a card game
Got my portrait painted finally,
hands hidden by the fancy frame

"Immortalized Sobriety"
that's what I'll call it,
immortalized sobriety
and not alcoholic

I'll tell my friends
I'll never drink again
We both know that's

I'll tell my friends
I'll never lie again
We both know that's

Am I losing my mind?
No, no just one more drink
am I perfectly fine?

You don’t walk but slither
You don’t talk but hiss
Your tongue only blithers
Coiled in bed with a monster so venomous
Your a real man eater
I, another mouse in the field
Running in the harvest of Demeter
While you strike, going for the ****

The ocean's wave rolls
and beats repeatedly
carving a way into the soul
of this precipice
foaming at the mouth

no, wait....

that's just your tongue
coated in a miasma of
a siren song
you ******* liar

sunbathing on my pyre
the whole town now congregates around
with devil-red
containers of gasoline
while your devil-red
lips act the fire

Only the clever witches
survived the trials

the whole town now dances around
feasting on the lotus petals
that root in the palm of your hand

look at them move
locked in each others hands
chanting
"This will bring peace"
while they nod and agree

"Pour more gasoline"
escapes between those sharp teeth

happiness is a moveable feast
at least your eating
like a queen

go ahead and **** the marrow
out of these innocent bones
tomorrow I will be gone

once I thought of you as Ithaca
now realize that these
are Troy's stones

it's time to sail back home.

Pearl white floral treat
entwined in the vines of hair
sundress draped a frame petite
skin so smooth and fair

Calm oceans happily gaze
glass of wine we share
tropical blue I'll sail for days
lost in the waves serene care

Lift the glass to those lush lips
we'll share some little laughs
for the first time this seedy ship
doesn't mind posing photographs

Beacon of moonlight
how you so guide
a lost star back to night
where it will find its stride

My enchanting little carnation
oh how you so complete
this lost dull constellation
giving meaning to its heartbeat

The morning peaks through your pristine blinds
                                         already up, dressed and ready
The morning trespasses on my dusty mind
snooze, turn away and rest unsteady

Lunch break, out with your friends (and him)
stories you tell, is he listening? (he is)
lunch break, alone still and again
                                      ...............................reminiscing

Night has blanketed you with Argus' eyes
                            cuddled close, watching and kissing
night has blacked out with my stammering cries
in bed, alone, shivering and missing

Old man with his Atacama tongue
dusting off stories of his youth
forty-nine knock outs he spattered out
heavy weight champion travelin' the world
stories of tribes auctioning off slaves
that they couldn't sell
that became that nights meal
pieces in a stew
how it could make a man cry and cry
oiling up trees so the lions
slide right off
tent births and baseball cards
a preacher neighbor who beat a woman
then had his teeth knock out
by the holy word
then points out his bird houses
only to dive deep into something else

"Old man" says I,
"I have to return to work
but next time I will save
your stop for last. There's
an oasis in that head of yours
and I tend to bask in it."

Flora that inspires

A poet grows words that ease
From the seeds

Just because you now use your spear
as a walking stick, doesn't change
your past's sanguinary veneer
men, women, and children, your range.

All for us to sing of your κλέος,
the shades come back to haunt,
your glory, your fame, your albatross.
dreams of slit throats and screams daunt.

You have given up bloodshed,
we no longer sing your praises,
now you can finally rest your head,
and the enemy thanks you for your hiatus.

The garden would not take root
Hardly a **** could flourish
No matter how much water absorbed
This muddy field left malnourished

Something was amiss in this mucky space
Ennui entwined climbing up the spine
Hippocampus left asphyxiated
The kudzu of the mind

Nothing but an entanglement of
Thought and emotion
Strangling the heart
In this confusing ocean

A dark shadow glides across the burning asphalt
and stops while I fly past
one foot in front of the other

A spider, I thought
     no, couldn't be
too long to be one, and slow

Scorpion was the next thought
      no, couldn't be
they do not call this area home

I had to stop my stride and turn
sneak to where that dark blur rested

A long blue streaked tail
               fading into lightning strikes

A baby, or perhaps a toddler

All I know is that it's
  tiny
  and fast.
  like me.

It made the grueling heat on these back streets
   worth the suffering.

Is it suffering if it is what I crave?

Silky cocoon of routine leaves
this metamorphosis stagnating
how the discomfort thieves
the fear of change isolating

The struggle lies in the escape
with no energy left to attempt
monotonous days left to drape
as if life holds me in contempt

Hanging on this lonely branch
sometimes I pray just to fall
monotonous routine's avalanche
creates days so banal

And then a child finds the lonely silk
plucks carefully into a glass jar
Oh how the curiosity of their ilk
creates this warm inner spar

A want to escape
a need to taste
freedom's luscious grapes
make haste happiness,
make haste.

Fuzzy orb so small and sweet
      Plump succubus plucked by hand
      Orange pink and yellow treat
To fulfill a hungers toothsome demand

Demeter's gift, O' how ripe
Put the flesh between my teeth
      Ears delighted with phoebe's pipe
Lounged lazily listening in edens wreath

Juice streaming down my face
Junes comfort, worth more than gold
Sleep coming to make its dreamy embrace
Hammock sway, as I slowly cross the threshold
Nothing like laying in the hammock, book in hand with a sweet treat, letting mothers poets drift you off to a slumber.

Luminous flame with its gossamer glow
orange hue reflects off thy pure marble
blue fractal veins, the calm river I trek
relish thy flesh planting lips on carpal

under thy luster thy hypnotic spell
an ephemeral release from daily hell

Garden of Eden, oh how do I feast
only if I could be thy true Adam
but I am an Adam for all sweet Eves
the serpent hissing to bite the apple

Coiled scales swaddling flesh, whispering
tongue in thy ear, toothsome words, promising

milk and honey.

Look into mine eyes
tell me what thou see

I see a prison, a soul
with hopes of escaping

I see padded walls
with a crazed man aching

I see deep sorrow
a human breaking

I see a gray sky
always raining

I see a husk of skin
eternally forsaking

I see a chasm
forever isolating

I see a mind
always creating
and hating
thy creation

I gazed upon thine eyes
and I saw hell in thy pupils

Two hours with pay
To roam around town
Anything, to get away
This cube paints my frown

I used to do it just to get away
But now I am not so sure
Now I take,
                No I mean volunteer,
                                        My day
The one moment I can savour

Never thought pleasure would come
By giving a helping hand
Never thought a smile would be from
Helping those that life has left astrand

I travel the town for miles
Deliver the weekly meals
Return to work with a genuine smile
A frown, upside down, now heals

Well at least for a little while.

Mr. Piano Man how your
fingers rain down on the keys
dancing a somber ballet
capturing the feeling of being empty
like those bottles underneath

Here Mr. Piano Man
the next drink is on me
while we sift through debris
of our melancholy

Every note stings
every chord bleeds
woe is you
and
woe is me
play
Mr. Piano Man
a song to our ennui

Let it rain Mr. Piano Man
let the storm hammer the strings
lets swim in the puddle
of whats spilt underneath

Oh Mr. Piano Man
What is that I hear?
That note that was just hit
it sounded rather queer
there is no room for happiness
at the bottom of this beer

No! NO! Mr. Piano Man
I don't want the sun
go back to stormy waters
to where you had begun

I thought you a friend
I thought we allies
I thought we understood
the sounds of demise

Mr. Piano Man how you so betrayed
with your songs of love and spring
every note my heart aches
every chord a bee sting

Mr. Piano Man this is my goodbye
I am leaving you now
please don't cry
I am going to my new friend
Mr. Bartender
How do you do?
Give me an endless bottle
and another drunk to talk to.

You,
my loquacious tide
flow into my heart
then ebb into
evanescent dreams
metamorphosing
melancholy into
this new form
these eyes have never
seen

How are you so beautiful?

the heat arises
inside this vessel
when you are near
451 Fahrenheit
this palpitating page
burns for your words
burns
burns
burns
to hear you speak
to see you flow
through time
gracefully

How are you so graceful?

The curve of your smile
is contagious
if only while in the presence
of your vanilla scent
your skin,
your laugh,
your countenance,
how they are so radiant

How do I capture this firefly?

Mothers warmth peered over the precipice
Her halo radiating with life
Projecting her color over the lush meadow
Engulfing everything in sight
How angelic, even the flora cry
An ocean blanket of blue and white
On the hillside your scapose body resides
Weighed down by blissful dew
Tipping over to one side.

Admiring that stream lazily flowing by.
Admiring that stream, what is identified?
Admiring that stream lazily flowing by.

Perfection staring, a gaze that seized
Cornas locked eternally
A beauty never before seen
Afraid to break sight, fear of ambrosia running away
Forever you stare
Forever you stare
Forever you stare
Never to look away
Left starving
Left withering
Left to decay
Left as an echo
Never to chase
Left as an echo
Never to embrace
Left as an echo
Your coupe de grace

No moon showing her lustrous wonder
No stars set ablaze
Only clouds sounding of thunder
Plunging rain greeting my gaze

Drops tasting of flame and damnation
Through a gap a gossamer star palpitates
Lonely and lost in its constellation
Only dolorous moans encapsulate

Gasping at fetid air
Face gurgling above scalding blood
Phlegethon, river of despair
My flesh becomes the mud

A figure appears over the precipice
A living body one that is whole
A lost man seems not necessitous
None that can help this tortured soul

A half horse is with he
Bow strung aimed at me
Risen higher than I should be
Arrow loosen my flesh stings

Awaken in sweat, four walls surrounding
A guilty conscience stewed this dream
Enclosed in darkness, alone, wailing
Recurring... haunting... blaspheme...

Yesterday, I decided to go for a run
To do it differently
Not for health, but for fun.

To listen to Earth's animalia sounds
Quadrupeds, Tetrapods, Avifaunas
Open ears, the muses were all around.

Funny how inspiration hits
A word, a sentence, a poem
Hanging with one finger grasped to my wits.

I tried to remember, I tried so hard
String of consciousness, a slayer
Fell the finger, to an elephant graveyard.

Next time I will not foolishly forget
A pad, a pen, some sort of canvas
Lost inspiration leads to regret.
Went for a run with no pen and pad or phone, no way to record thoughts that I want to keep. Never again will I forget, at least a pen.

The cold usurped the trees
I watch their children fall
filling up the wet street
winter forestalled with a cask
                                             of alcohol

watch as the tip of his tongue
touches the roof of his mouth
whips down and spouts out
the reasons why we have
                                         this drought

but its raining now
maybe something will grow
or a sea of spit
with rolling waves
                              will overflow

I told her I would try
to rekindle with him
stuck in cabin's twilight
sewing sinews of this
                         phantom limb

how does one talk
before they think
does he hear the words
that dribble into his
                               warm drink

then ascends as steam
back into that cavernous nose
to permeate his brain
and slowly seeps into
                             tattered clothes

this "vacation" will be over
but not soon enough
a couple more days
all I have to do is
                         avoid fisticuffs

no promises.

A tug of the string
Pulls me back
Into your reality
With a thwack!

Head throbbing and left questioning
Is this a leash or a noose?
Curiosity is festering

Step to the cliff’s edge
Will I be left to hang
Over the ledge
Or am I a boomerang?

What goes on in your glowing head
when you sit in front of your harp
eyes wide shut your fingers thread
and pluck, syncing with our heart

the way you majestically play
fills my ears with angelic tones
stunned, I can't look away
from your heavenly flowing bones

Harp forged from Hephaestus' gold
pluck and pick easy as a river's flow
soft harmonies of Philip Glass enfold
and just for a moment, forgotten woes

1.
The wave of morality ends where the
                                    sands of conscience begin
The weight of thy pleasures ebb within
Thou left for a jubilant spring vacation
I ventured for a new sensation
Deep in those doleful dens
I a pig, wallowed in a sty of sins
Each pleasure a fledgling albatross
Each chance a tiger to satiate
Each night a new place dossed
                                      down depravity
A new threshold crossed
strong winds to the frozen lake of
                                                                   treachery
Now my skull has been hollowed out
by fatten maggots of the conscience

2.
A cynic once said
"One goes to bed early because they have so little to think about"
I haven't slept
                                the echos have kept
                                                                            my eyes have wept
Now I wade in that low tide with boots of iron
              How far do I walk
One more step to feel relief
              How far do I sink

A bloated corpse decorating coral reef

These celestial strings pull
Through a vessel of silence
100 eyes
Watching
Staring
Peering
Judging
Guarding
Shrouding clouds on the inside
These emotions I can't get out
Giant slayer I must be
To set my spirit free
To live a life of happiness
For eternity
There is something inside me that keeps me from verbally expressing myself with other people. A problem that has been with me since I could talk. Its time to slay the guardian and to set my soul free.
