I want to get to know you like I do
my friends. You are pretty and giant.
I stand still shivering in your shadow.
you smell good and have smooth skin
and bat eyelashes and slay me before
I have time to kiss you and we melt.
I make clumsy tries at romance but
have no map and touch wrong.
You take my hand and guide me
to where I need to be and we Love.

Branching out a tree
releases leaves, leaves
behind its verdant sleeves
stands e x p o s e d
to brittle breeze
wonders at this, how
a tree is a tree with no leaves
for he believes all trees have leaves
and to be a tree that must be
and sees not that he is tree
when all his leaves leave, beneath

His crisis shelf
I sit naked on the ground
with strips of me around
and no sense of being self.

I try to love what I am not.

I am compassionate and understanding
People know when I love them because I love hard
I am caring
I listen
I acknowledge
I give feedback that doesn’t hide the truth but isn’t harsh
All these things I am

But not for me

Sometimes, I feel
that the modern world
has traded love, for clarity...

has traded flowery gardens,
for deserts.
has traded stars,
for a picture of stars.
has traded dance and songs,
for analysis.
has traded ecstasy,
for mere control.
has traded heart,
for mind.

has traded life,
for death...

Blood’s been leaking from my heart
For quite some time now
But you swear you could put an end to that pain here and now
If I let you
And blood’s been leaking from between these thighs
Since I was a little girl
And you swear you could end
All that pain too
If I would just trust you

It's when the tears dry up,
when the arms are no longer
feeling the loss, when unkissed
the days end that sorrow becomes
memory only and the flat back
of yesterday loses color.

Try harder to replace the moments
strangely forgotten, to remember
the trust, to relive.  Wrapped in memories that once slayed
the dragons of doubt only to
find the pieces of a life unloved
after all in simple shards incapable
of stinging that the ends of
believing are achieved.

This ceases to be a cause for
fear, this lost labor at last
unexpected but tired with
unstrain and blurred with
yesterday's tears.

To lose is always a shock.
To cease to be moved
is a thud in the soul of time.

i sit silently trapped
inside a cell i made myself
inside my head
i scream wanting to leave

i can fake a smile
fake a laugh but
what no one sees is the girl inside

as if one summer night would
stop to kiss the cheek of winter
        winter
   my sandaled feet chill,
       awash in starlight
the waves, like a slivered memory
       pure and silver,
       carry the faint heartbeat
of many things come and gone
summered waters blow through
   their courses of hair

how many hearts or ripples

If you could read my mind,
You’d see a thousand papers
Filled with broken poetries
And deadbeat proses
Full of woeful verses
With mournful pieces
Of unfinished stories
That are yet to be written
And failed to be spoken;
If you could read my mind,
You’d hear horrible screams
And earsplitting weeps
From shattered dreams,
Kept in a nasty notepad,
Scribbled on a bed
Of bloodstained words,
Ringing in my head.
If you could read my mind,
You’d see the shadows
That lurk within me;
You’d hear the bellows,
Screeching the words
“I’m tired,”
“I’m a failure,”
“I’m stupid –”
I know it sounds stupid,
It’s pathetically foolish
And seems too *******.
If you could read my mind,
You’d feel the tears
I had ever failed to cry;
You’d see the people
That make the weak weaker;
You’d see the monsters
That consume my head;
You’d hear the hollers
That failed to be freed;
You’d see the heart
That still bleeds and bleeds.
If you could read my mind,
You’d see the face
I’ve failed to show back then,
The face I’ve faked back then.
If you could read my mind,
You’d see a character
I had ever failed to become
If you could read my mind,
You’d be able to read
A book you never wished
To touch and read,
But sometimes I still wish
Someone could read my mind.
