My mistakes,

I want to be.
So go

paintbrush

because I love my every
stain, and I'll keep every
color; red, green,

By my every stain I mean my every mistake or misfortune, because I learn from each one of them.

I hope it looks somewhat like a paintbrush. I messed around with it, and the result is before your eyes.

I might be your kid,
and you could be might my parent,
but sometimes
I think that you treat me more like a carrot.
I grow by myself,
I get my own nutrition.
I get my own life,

You do not care about me,
at least that's what I think.
But even carrots
cannot be on their own.
You do not care if I come home ****** red or sick orange.

Technology
Masha Yurkevich Mar 2020

The comfort and luxury of the world today
we have more than we did on any other day.

No old-fashioned letters or telephone calls,
today technology does it all.

Latest gadgets and gizmos we have access to
that make our days easier to get through.

Separate fact from fiction,
or look up a definition

Technology has got you covered
better than you’ve ever wondered.

Just press a button and watch it happen
technology better that you can imagine.

Like a genie in a bottle that will give you three wishes,
technology, on the other hand, does not have a limit.

Ask what you want you’ll get a reply
with a clear answer of how and why.

Technology will keep on getting better
but it’s a good idea to keep in mind that
old-fashioned letter.

Nothing beats a hand-written letter to a special someone.

COVID19…
Masha Yurkevich Mar 2020

Stuck at home with nothing to do?
Technology is where we go to.

With this new virus keeping us inside,
technology is where we spend our time.

We all sit at home
using our computers and our phones

Our days have suddenly gotten longer
so we see what technology has to offer.

The comfort and luxury of the world today
we have more than we did on any other day.

No old-fashioned letters or telephone calls,
today technology does it all.

Latest gadgets and gizmos we have access to
that make our days easier to get through.

Separate fact from fiction,
or look up a definition

Technology has got you covered
better than you’ve ever wondered.

Just press a button and watch it happen
technology better that you can imagine.

Like a genie in a bottle that will grant you three wishes,
technology, on the other hand, does not have a limit.

Ask what you want and you’ll get a reply
with a clear answer of how and why.

But while we are all at home waiting for this to move,
remember that there is one thing you can always do.

Take some twenty seconds and give your hands a thorough clean
with warm water and soap to stop the spread of COVID19.

Never there
Masha Yurkevich Apr 2019
You were never there.

And you never tried.

You had a chance,
but you stepped aside.

You never read me
stories,
or kissed me
good-night.

You never took me camping,
or even for a bike ride.

Now I'm a big girl,
and you can't buy me toys.

But that's ok,
cuz you never did in the first place,
though you had the choice.
Spend time with your loved ones while you still can.

If I will...
Masha Yurkevich Jan 2019
If I will have wrinkles,
let them be from too much smiling.

If I will have bad vision,
let it be from looking at good for too much.

If I will be starved,
let it be from me feeding you all the good I've had.

If I will have broken bones,
let them be broken because I
have taken the pain that would've gone to you.

If I will be weak,
let me be weak from being too strong.

When I will die,
let me die because I have done enough good here.

If I were a piano...
Masha Yurkevich Nov 2018
If I had 88 keys my life, that’d be great.
I could let you feel my life in so many different ways.
You’d feel the rain, the sunshine,
the pain, feelings you can’t define.

If I had 88 keys in my life,
you’d feel what it's like to be stabbed with a knife.
You’d feel all the feelings;
ones that hurt, ones that have healings.

You’d know the feeling of true love
and you’d know the feeling of being able to fly like a dove.
You’d know the feeling of being scared,
And the feeling of remembering the moments with loved ones that you once shared.

If I had 88 keys in my life,
there would be no strife.
And there would be no problems, things would be bright.
And everything would be as simple as black and white.

If I had 88 keys in my life, no one would worry,
and no one would scurry.
No one would be scared,
And no one would be snared.

If I had 88 keys in my life,
you’d know what it feels like in the afterlife.
You’d know the feeling of being above,
you’d know the feeling of being loved.

If I had 88 keys in my life,
I know that even God can hear the sound rife.
And if my lost sisters are up there in their haven,
angels carry the delicate notes up to heaven.
Many verses in my poem start with the phrase, "If I had 88 keys in my life". I got that idea from a poem that I read and liked very much. I did not want to copy it, and I do not want anyone to think that I did. I hope you like this poem!

Spreading Truth
Masha Yurkevich Dec 2018
I don't know why you do what you do,
and hurt other people with words that aren't true.
Your words, your actions;
they make me angry.
And especially that reputation that you carry.
Does it please you when others hurt?
When you call them stupid, dumb, or a ****?
Do you find happiness in that?
Telling people things that are full of bad?
If so, I don't know how you do it,
spreading around so much hatred.
How about you try something new.
Being kind and caring; saying please and thank you.
All those hurtful things you can't undo.
So start spreading around things that are true.
This world would be so much better if people were kinder to each other. But we only have this planet to live on so far, so we might as well make it a welcoming place; you know, just incase the aliens decide that there planet isn't kind enough and they'd like to come and live here.

Open Wounds
Masha Yurkevich Apr 2022

I'd rather you use bombs and knives,
I'd rather you use guns and swords.
I'd rather that we would have fights;
that you'd leave me with open sores.

I'd rather you find a different weapon,
a different tool to use on me.
I wish you'd make me feel a pain;
I wish you'd leave me weak and ******.

Yet the sharpest tool is what you use;
you leave me dead inside.
I wish you'd tear my heart out;
I wish I would have died.

You open your mouth and the weapons spill out,
you're armed with words that you scream and shout.
The pain is unbearable, the torture indescribable.
I know there's no point in putting up a struggle.

You **** me, one by one,
your words an open ****.
They slice me up in pieces,
making me feel like trash.

All I can be is silent;
I know that is the best.
I try to block them out,
but they're already in my chest.

Your words are killing me;
a slow, antagonizing death.
Each word you say cuts me,
each wound raw and fresh.

I wish you'd let me be,
I wish you'd leave it unsaid.
I guess you just can't see
you can't bring someone back from the dead.

Only God can do that...

Language of the Piano
Masha Yurkevich Nov 2018
Some people just don’t understand,
how lucky they are to have a friend.
But I have more than just a friend,
because a broken heart she can mend.

I never knew I would get to know her so well,
I never knew that she’d be able to tell.
The brokenness I had inside me,
I thought no one would be able to see.

Piano was something that we had just between us,
something that was too great to discuss.
The gentle sound of the piano
healed us both; and we didn’t even know.

The music is soft as fur,
and she listens as if it's a special sonata just for her.
She closes her eyes and folds her hands,
her face surrounded by brown strands.

Mistakes never even touch her ears,
And as she listens, her eyes fill with tears.
I can tell that she feels Beethoven's first movement,
As she slowly nods her head in approvment.

It has been quite a while,
but everyday she makes me smile.
She’s way up there, safe in her haven,
and God’s angels carry the delicate notes up to heaven.

My best friend she was, my best friend she is,
and with a caring heart she made me hers.
And though she can’t be with us here today,
I know she looks out for me everyday.
I wrote this poem in honor of my piano teacher who is not able to be here with us. It still brings tears to my eyes and smiles to my lips when I think about her.

Roses
Masha Yurkevich Nov 2020

They were so perfect and bright
when I got them that night.
                      Their beauty amazed me;
                       they were such a sight.
He placed them in my hand
and we smelled them together.
"Like these roses," he said, "we will last forever."
As time went on,
they roses began to fade.
Their beautiful red, pink and white
                         became a lonely grey.
Their rich, full form slowly began
to dwindle.
                           Their large, open petals
                           soon began to shrivel.
They dried up slowly
and one by one they fell,
leaving their beauty just a story to tell.
But what about us?
What will we leave behind?

                             Stories about roses that have
                                     dried up and died?

The roses are fading...

It feels so good;
this deadly thing that I took.
Sure, plenty before me have died,
but to my parents I could lie.
It's not like they'd ever find out;
I think right before I blackout.
Would they ever come look for me
in this ally?
Or would I just die,
right here, right now,
lonely?
I faint before I can finish my thought.
I felt nothing; naught.
I lie in that ally
for what felt like years.
All until a someones appears.
I hear them talking,
it all sounds very faint.
They try to save me,
but it's just
too late.
Please, stop yourself before something like this happens to you. Luckily, this is not about me, and don't let it be about you. Ask someone, get help, do whatever it takes. Don't do this to yourself.

If I had 88 keys in my life,

but i  can’t

You don’t want to believe
that this dangerous world we can leave.
We can use our imagination,
to make a whole, new great nation.

You don’t want to think that all this trouble can go away.
You think that we have to stay.
You think we don’t have to do anything,
you don’t want to do anything.

But anyone can make a difference,
and try to take away this bitterness.
But you just don’t want to try,
you’re just going to sit there and die.

Life isn’t really fair,
and you just really need to care.
to touch the heart of someone else,
You first need to change yourself.
It bothers me so much on how some people just don't care. All of these school shootings and other horrible tragedies just seem to worsen. I pray that they will get better and that everyday, this world will be more safe, kind, and caring.

Tonight,

This poor puppy

But it was
afraid

it was shy.
It was afraid
of what the others would reply.
Inspiration came to this puppy
when it saw a

fly by.
The poor puppy
covered its head with its paws,
and started to cry.
And that's where I come in.
I walked by
and say this poor puppy
standing by.
"Go on, little puppy,
go on, fly!
"
The puppy tried,
and flew with the geese,
and it was the most beautiful scene!
I felt so special
helping someone get somewhere
through there dreams.
The puppy flew,
as did my heart.
A true dream that inspired this poem.

Famous Last Words...
Masha Yurkevich Nov 2018
Famous last words,
there are plenty of them.
But the last words of a person we love
can mean more than any gem.

                    Words that we remember,
words that we live by.
                     Words that we treasure,
words that don't lie.

Nothing lives forever,
everything must die.
But the last few words of a person's life
can make us feel more alive.

Whether it's your mother,
a piano teacher,
a friend,
a father,

last words can make a difference
and touch our hearts.

                               "Make me proud."

Those last words were said strong and loud
from the lips of a person I loved to pieces.

They may not be famous,
they may not be long.
But no last words
can ever be wrong.
Everyday, the words "Make me proud" are what get me out of bed. I will never forget the person who said them and I know that that person looks out for me everyday from the moment I get out of bed, to the moment I get back in. She is with me everywhere and helps me get through everyday.

So who are you really?

My Mind
Masha Yurkevich Jan 2019
My mind
is like a leaf,
lost in the wind.
It is here,
                                      there,
   everywhere.

I have learned
that I cannot be
everywhere at once.
And that I need
to save some time
for myself.
I try to be everywhere at once. I want to help everyone with everything everywhere. Someone needs help with homework; someone needs a pianist to cover; someone needs an extra violinist to play; someone needs me to be by there side. I often forget the last time that I thought about myself. I think that I should try and work on that...

Fertilizer
Masha Yurkevich Feb 2020

Sometimes,
life makes you into a
tiny seed
and throws you into a
pile of ****.

But do not be fooled.

And do not be brought down.

With the right thoughts
and the right actions,

that pile of **** can become

fertilizer

and help you grow even stronger
than before.

Roses, Violets, and Daisies
Masha Yurkevich Feb 2019
Roses are
red,
violets are blue.
Daisys are
white,
so grow them too.
I'll let you in
this garden of happiness
and together
we can
forget about our loneliness.
Together,
we'll grow old,
you,
me,
and the flowers.
And there will be no such thing as
time;
no seconds, minutes,
or hours.
But when the flowers do begin
to fade,
I turn my head
to find out
that all you did
was fake.
And we’ll go on living
like we are in love
but really there’s nothing left.
Nothing but dust.
After publishing my poem, 'Roses are red', I got comments(or perhaps I should say suggestions) from Renee Danes and Rain(both wonderful poets you should totally check out!) and this poem is the result. Though parts of the poem were changed, I give much of the credit to Renee Danes and Rain and thank them both very much for their suggestions that hopefully made my poetry somewhat better.
