Nevermore
Lyn-Purcell Sep 2017
My Lady Ophelia of the Golden Fleece.
With hair spun by the Sahara Sun
and alabaster skin. Eyes of indigo
flames and lips that have the
pop of the poppy. Her lush
body fitted in emerald
enchantments and
threaded
silver thistles.
See her sailing by the
moonlight on an ethereal sea,
upon her ship, the Tears of Joy.
The Emperor's Butterfly in her hair
with shining wings of gossamer threads.
Oh! I marvel the twilight afterglow
kiss her skin, making her a peach
rose. From her carnelian cup,
she sips the nectar -
moscato sweet.
Her first sip was of
gumdrops, then roses,
and after that, the more. Salty
tears from a mermaid's cheek, the
whispers of wisteria, the laughter of
springberries, the kisses of sweet neroli
and the tartness of plum toffee. She
passes by Aegean Ruins, her
secret retreat upon the
White Cliffs
that is west of
the moon. The beauty of
this lost history is as soft and
deep as an angel's sigh, with its
enchanting mist like graceful tendrils.
The shadows of the Black Hills bloom. She
coats herself in a cloak of midnight and
she descends down, setting foot
ashore. She walked down
the winding road of
burnt orchids
and lavender sands.
She had heard whisperings
of an unfound door and the Dream-
weavers of the Sable Heart. And so she
wanders... passed the midnight trees and their
sad serenades. The chill of sea ice and the
sharpness of pewter buds. The mist
dances. It twirls. Pirouettes.
Arabesques.
It circles and hisses.
Circles and hisses. Circles
and hisses! And there it was, the
unfound door made of crystal shadows.
Lady Ophelia of the Golden Fleece, extends her
hand and holds the ****. She twists and
enters...
This poem is based on a dream I had while working on my stories. But I woke up so I have no idea what comes happens next...

Do I want to know?

The magic's in me...
A set of haiku's based on my walk around my local area. A woman was handing out leaflets about palm-reading, the whole sha-bang.
It got me thinking...  few years ago, I believed that people can see the future through a crystal ball. Now, though I believe in the supernatural (that there is something more to this world and beyond), I realised that I'd rather not know. The true magic to make my future lies within me and me alone...

Golden antlered doe
Rides the wind with fluttered heart

New day, new haiku!
This one is for Taygete, the third of them Seven Sisters!
There is a link between her and Artemis, something I've learned today haha! A variant myth is that to escape the eye of Zeus, she turned herself into a doe with golden antlers, wanting to escape the eye of Zeus to which this haiku alludes to. It was said that she was even hunted (but thankfully never killed) by Heracles.

Naked
Lyn-Purcell Jul 2017
What does it mean to be truly
naked for the one you love?
When you peel away the clothes,
ready to make love to one another?
In the kisses you share?
In the strokes of the flesh?
With butterflies in your stomach?
No.
That's not being naked.
Being naked is when you bare it all
Your pain
Your past
Your scars
Your dreams
Your fears
When you feel your lover trace over
the tales of your sacred body
and feel what you feel
It's only then that you can truly and proudly
say you're naked to your lover
That they are only yours.
And you are only theirs.
I'm an old fashioned soul by nature. This is what I feel it means to be naked.

This one is dedicated to Robin Carretti! I know it's not the best, but I wanted to say thank you for all your kind comments. I've always been one who's not only super shy but also very timid and afraid of the world. It's become such a nasty place now... and it makes me smile that on HP, people are supportive of one another! We're all craftsmen here. A little kindness goes a long way, it may be the light that one needs that day.

Flowers in The Prison
Lyn-Purcell Jul 2017
See all the maidens in pain
Sealed in luxury on the edge of the moon
Fair flowers forced to love their chains
Who feign affections for the Sun King

They're weeping in the shadows
And dream a dream of love
Forever bound and shackled
Only to rise above

To excel, they must all shed blood
Monthly moons and out
Shed a tear for the flowers in the prison

Though beauties spout and bud round them
They smile and sing to the Sun King's chime
Beneath the petals, they covet his rays
How hopeless you are, vagaries of time

Just like the Sun is King, the moon is his queen
In arrogance, he doesn't see the flowers envy
For they needed him to grow and rise above it all
So they tend to their weeds
Knowing if they are caught
They will burn and fall...
Poem I wrote today based on a documentary I watched.

of the many mirrors, bring more light

Waltzing under the massive crystal chandelier,
swift and elegant on the sun-patterned

Lamia
Lyn-Purcell Aug 2020

Her heart burns with ache
Swept away by grief's mad tide
Cursed to know no rest

New day, new haiku!
The Younger Charites and the Furies have been completed! Now onto other women of myths, haha!

This haiku is for Lamia. Some myths say she was the Queen of Libya, some say she was just a regular woman. Some myths also say she was the daughter of Poseidon.

But she was known as a great beauty who caught the eye of Zeus which led into a love affair. Of course, when Hera caught wind of it, she was enraged  [we all know how reputed her rage is], and seeing how she could not take out her rage on her husband, she took it out on Lamia. Now it varies on how exactly, but either Hera did away with Lamia's children herself or she made Lamia end them herself. Worse of all, there's a version where Hera made Lamia devour her own babes.

No matter how, the end result is the same. Her children's lives were snuffed out. And she was turned into a monster. Again, some say by Hera but I have read variants that said that it was Zeus, curiously enough. The reason why Zeus did so was so that she could exact her vengeance upon the children of others.

On top of being made a monster, Hera twisted the knife further by cursing Lamia with restlessness so her heart will know no rest. She gouged her own eyes out but that didn't ease her pain because she couldnt unsee her children. Some myths say that Zeus gave her the power to remove her eyes himself.

Lamia's story is seen as a cautionary tale for children to behave.
Be it a phantom, a demon or an envious child eating monster, her origins are just so tragic. I truly feel for her...
Due to her depictions, there are links to her and the gorgons, vampires and succubi.
She is also linked to the Empousai [a shape shifting phantom who has a copper leg and was reportedly created by Hekate for purposes unknown], a Mormocyle [a female phantom whose name roughly translates to 'hideous/terrible wolf']. Lamiais were demons/phantoms who had the power of illusion. They take the form of a beautiful woman to lure young men to their deaths. They were said to have a snake's tail instead of legs.

Alot to take in, I know! I'm just a mega nerd for this sort of thing, haha!
But still, Lamia's story is so sad and tragic.

Anyway, thank you all for growing followers, I'm forever humbled and grateful for the support πŸ™πŸŒΉπŸ’œ

Dear Society
Lyn-Purcell Jun 2018
Dear society, I'm tired of your
debauching standards of what
it means to be beautiful into a
mere commodity.

Dear society, why can't you look
into the windows of the soul? Are
you scared to see a flawed being
just like yourself? Scared to see
what truly lies in the heart? Scared
to see more and want more than
just a body?

Dear society, what you call
beauty now is only joy for
your eyes. There should be
more to us than just *** appeal.

Dear society, your expections
has done more harm that good.
Those who fall in line will always
be accepted. And the ordinary
will be rejected...

You've made me feel like I'll never
be good enough. That my life
should be dictated to meet your
standards. No matter what I do,
there will always be something
wrong with me. Some imperfection
that I'll be forced to fix.

I am more than flesh and bone.
I am more than blood and tone.
For years, you've made me sad,
you've made me hate.
And I refuse to die bound to
to a dark fate.
Society *****.
There is more to people than outer appearance,
or is that concept boring now?
Oh well.

Lesson Learned #98
Lyn-Purcell Jun 2018
This day and age, our surface matters.
And when I wonder why the rich
end their lives, I know that
wealth, fame and status
are grands cape of
illusion
This poem was influenced by not only Kate *****'s death but many of the celebrities who have committed suicide over the years. There are many suicides that have hurt me over the years, one that's still a raw wound is the death of Robin Williams. I still can't believe he's actually gone.
Just because they made it in life - they drive fancy cars, have big houses, clothes, jewels everything ordinary people desire, doesn't mean that they themselves are happy. Sometimes their own inner demons get the better of them. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I only ever want stability, financially, mentally, emotionally, physically. Fame I see can be a double edged sword. It had both made and killed people.
It's sad...

I'm close to 100 for my lesson learned collection! YES! ^.^

Being human, we all
have that ability to hurt,
harm and ****
Life and death are powers
in all our tongues
and you don't seem to
get that what you say
has weight
Once you think your
words, know what
to day and don't
You never know what
demons each person
faces
Yes, they may smile
but your cruel words
adds to their pain
adds to them corroding
on the inside
They may be dancing
near the edge with
death talking in
their ear and you
may be the give
them that final push
They will take death
by the hand with
their faith in human
kindness crushed
People want to live
but many just survive
Don't make anyone
feel numb or more
dead inside
I'm feeling really reflective this morning.
People don't seem to get that words have weight and can destroy a life.
Be careful what you say and who you say it to.
Depression, anxiety, loneliness, suicidal
These feelings are no joke.
I felt like I had to write this.
I'm not an angel, I'm a sinner like everyone else. I have said things I should not have said. I have done things I should not have done. I'm no better than anyone else. But I've learned. Who I was at 13 or 18 is not the same person I am at 23. As I age physically, I age mentally.
Please to anyone who feels low, know you are loved. Please get help. People will strike you down but never let it destroy you.
Never ever underestimate the power of human kindness.

Autumn curls whipped by wind
Her light faint and stained by shame

New day, new haiku!
And here is the last of the Seven Sisters! ^^
This haiku is for Merope. She is known as the lost Pleiad.
There are many variations of her myth but the one I am aware of is that out of her sisters, she was the only one to have had lusted and had was intimate with a mortal. Hence why her light is 'faint and stained by shame' compared to her sisters. So I was hoping to capture her insecurity in this haiku.

Here, I glide to regions unknown.
On the tides of bliss, you are shown.
A stroke from you can calm my heart.
Forlorn and fear, depart.

How the sun is dim to your smile.
West winds blow as I dream of the Isle
For that one day, where we lock our hands
Upon the golden sands...

Writhe and roar! Sea and tempest grow!
Rise, my Dutchman! Rock to and fro!
Set the sails and man all the helms!
Our journey never ends.

Death ascends upon the throne.
As wild as he is alone.
Come to the sea, and cut through waves
Hurry to your water grave.

And my love who can't be restained.
I will vow that I'll make you pay
Drag them, bind them, take their souls
And hear the death bell toll!

For my love, I gave you my heart.
So that we will never part.
Forever you were my always.
Your curse, I won't obey.

How I've we'd meet on the lands.
Words of love have crumbled into sand.
For years, I drown with misery.
.Dead chest, safeguard my heart...
Was binge watching the PoTC franchise. It reminded me of how much I loved Davy Jones' lullaby.
Not great I know so I apologise! These are the words that come into mind

~
Ever had that point in your life where
you wished you could just press
a button and restart your whole
life?

Never losing any of the knowledge
that you have now?
It seems like I'm having more and
more of those days...

I try my best to walk on the path
of light, but I can't help but turn
and feel the shadows crawling
behind me

How they yearn to sharpen their
blades with their poisoned whispers
and seek my neck to slit my throat
The memories of my 'childhood'
coming back to bite and drag me
down to my death
I only wish to build for my future,
to move on,
begin anew,
to rise about the turmoil that burns
in me

For the man I hate most in this world...
Even now, I'm not sure that I fully
understand the past
I have so many questions, still
But I guess I will never truly understand
it, not as I am now anyway...
But it's better to understand than me
seeking to solve it

I can't change my past
I can't delete my mistakes
I'm still at war, fighting off my insecurities
my self-loathing
my depression
my anxieties
my shame
my anger

As scared as I am, my hand
is on the handle that leads
to my Hall of Hope
Small, it may be, but hope
is something that is hard to ****
once it has taken root

The key, stability, is there beyond
my gaze
My future is the only thing I have
There's nothing left for me in the past,
nothing but pain and a black-hole
of emotion
So I humbly ask you...

Help me to overcome and experience
my best life that hides behind my fears
I won't let anyone jeopardise what could
be for me, for the sake of jealousy or even
impulse

I can't be a tree that never bears fruit...
For risks are apart of life
So I will follow you,
with my heart praying for salvation
From the smoke from the past,
you present me my mirror
even if it's something I do not wish
to see

My past, I will make peace with
but I will create my bright future
~

Armor
Lyn-Purcell Jul 2017
It's better to be struck down
than
destroyed.

Your will, your thoughts,
your mind are the
materials of
your armor.

Your perseverance
and life form your
blade.

You've no need for a shield
For what makes you whole
is the loving furnace that
burns in you

Lesson Learned #92
Lyn-Purcell May 2018
Adorn your essence and legacy
with good deeds. Not your
outer shell.
It's the soul that counts, never vanity.

Be back soon!

My mind is a storm
What I need is still waters
But pebbles are thrown

Been a while since I did a concrete poem.
The formatting should be fine on the computer and tablet, it may look a little weird on the phone. To be honest, I've been feeling more tired and lethargic than ever, but yet the fire burns hot when I think of writing...and how much of a blessing it is to me.
Many times where I feel I should stop, I always end up with a pen back in hand.
Though I feel as if I am not worthy of this gift due to my regrets and poor choices of the past, the voices of the stories still linger in me.
And I despite all my flaws and imperfections, I do wish to bring them to life, as they so rightfully deserve.

I'm still working on extending the Women of Myth list, so it'll be postponed for a little longer but I will be sure to let you all know when it's back. I just have a lot of reading to do, haha.
Be back soon.
Stay safe and well, everyone.
Much love and air hugs,
Lyn ***

It's You
Lyn-Purcell Dec 2017
It's you I want.
You.
I want who you are, all of who you are.
I want your fire and your water.
Your light and your darkness.
Your Heaven and your Hell.
All your jagged pieces
so I can help to
complete
you.
Desire...it's weird for me to experience, let alone think about.

Memory
Lyn-Purcell Sep 2018

Always haunts the edge of my mind
Crossing the edges of my limited time
Run for light's sliver, run to be free
For I will find peace in escaping your
memory

Wolfsong

Blazing aurora
then a little, gold wolf sings
whilst watching the girl
An old haiku that stumbled on while clearing my room.

Perspective
Lyn-Purcell Aug 2017
I've encountered people who often told
me that when I stumble on the edge,
the fall would
****
me.
In truth, it's dependant on the lens you
choose to look though.
On the edges of life,
you can be killed as you
fall
or
as you
land.
Another poem from my journal.
