Words from our mouths can be swords
from a sheathe.
An arrow on a bow.

Aglaia
Lyn-Purcell Aug 2020

Milk maid with gold crown
Rose-tinted cheeks glow with warmth
Smiles with loving grace

New day, new haiku!
I'm feeling alot better today, thankfully!
I'm going to be working on the Charites now.
The three goddesses of beauty, grace, joy, dance and song and I'm starting with Aglaia, who was also known as Kharis, and she was the wife of Hephaestus. She brought him much joy, splendor and glory (which is what her name translates to) and bore him children after the whole Ares-Aphrodite incident.

She gave birth to four more Charites with Hephaestus which I will write about about the main three are done. The Charites are depicted as beautiful naked women , I've seen alot of art and I remember seeing an ivory story of them in a museum with some friends. They truly were gorgeous to behold.

I truly believe Aglaia is good for Hephaestus, he deserves some love and warm, and I wanted to show that in the haiku.
Anyway, thank you all for growing followers, I'm forever humbled and grateful for the support 🙏🌹💜

Tomorrow will be today
Today will be yesterday

That one yesterday I
promised to get work
done!

Quills in the inkpot
Papers scattered but
they're ready

But I put it off for tomorrow
                                           tomorrow
                                tomorrow
                                        tomorrow

The same tomorrow of today
when today is yesterday

It's become my art form
Wasting time for tomorrow,
the thief!

The thought is so daunting
Ever so daunting

Of a piece of my work
that is left unfinished
Procrastination...
It's so easy to get into.
I've put so much of my work on hold because of it.
One excuse becomes a thousand and what I wanted to do rarely gets done.
Happens to the best of us!

Lesson Learned #98
Lyn-Purcell Jun 2018
This day and age, our surface matters.
And when I wonder why the rich
end their lives, I know that
wealth, fame and status
are grands cape of
illusion
This poem was influenced by not only Kate *****'s death but many of the celebrities who have committed suicide over the years. There are many suicides that have hurt me over the years, one that's still a raw wound is the death of Robin Williams. I still can't believe he's actually gone.
Just because they made it in life - they drive fancy cars, have big houses, clothes, jewels everything ordinary people desire, doesn't mean that they themselves are happy. Sometimes their own inner demons get the better of them. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I only ever want stability, financially, mentally, emotionally, physically. Fame I see can be a double edged sword. It had both made and killed people.
It's sad...

I'm close to 100 for my lesson learned collection! YES! ^.^

Listen as the robin sings
ever so sweetly by still waters

And here, she soars through
high and free and little by little,
her nest is formed

When I feel grey with each day
like winter, I hear her songs
and it's like I'm under a new sun

So never underestimate the power
of birdsongs! I am grateful to have
and hear it's special beauty.

Sweet Robin, born of Joy and
Spring and Summer.
Spread your wings, your
love and brighten the day
This one is dedicated to Robin Carretti! I know it's not the best, but I wanted to say thank you for all your kind comments. I've always been one who's not only super shy but also very timid and afraid of the world. It's become such a nasty place now... and it makes me smile that on HP, people are supportive of one another! We're all craftsmen here. A little kindness goes a long way, it may be the light that one needs that day.

So, Robin. I hope you like this poem!
I'm grateful for everything and everyone I have here and now.
It gives me the confidence I need to make a move in life.

I dare not dull my mind
with wine, unless it's

be laid to rest horizontally.

The power of the pen.

Golden antlered doe
Rides the wind with fluttered heart
Evade the bolt's eye

New day, new haiku!
This one is for Taygete, the third of them Seven Sisters!
There is a link between her and Artemis, something I've learned today haha! A variant myth is that to escape the eye of Zeus, she turned herself into a doe with golden antlers, wanting to escape the eye of Zeus to which this haiku alludes to. It was said that she was even hunted (but thankfully never killed) by Heracles.

Nevermore
Lyn-Purcell Sep 2017
My Lady Ophelia of the Golden Fleece.
With hair spun by the Sahara Sun
and alabaster skin. Eyes of indigo
flames and lips that have the
pop of the poppy. Her lush
body fitted in emerald
enchantments and
threaded
silver thistles.
See her sailing by the
moonlight on an ethereal sea,
upon her ship, the Tears of Joy.
The Emperor's Butterfly in her hair
with shining wings of gossamer threads.
Oh! I marvel the twilight afterglow
kiss her skin, making her a peach
rose. From her carnelian cup,
she sips the nectar -
moscato sweet.
Her first sip was of
gumdrops, then roses,
and after that, the more. Salty
tears from a mermaid's cheek, the
whispers of wisteria, the laughter of
springberries, the kisses of sweet neroli
and the tartness of plum toffee. She
passes by Aegean Ruins, her
secret retreat upon the
White Cliffs
that is west of
the moon. The beauty of
this lost history is as soft and
deep as an angel's sigh, with its
enchanting mist like graceful tendrils.
The shadows of the Black Hills bloom. She
coats herself in a cloak of midnight and
she descends down, setting foot
ashore. She walked down
the winding road of
burnt orchids
and lavender sands.
She had heard whisperings
of an unfound door and the Dream-
weavers of the Sable Heart. And so she
wanders... passed the midnight trees and their
sad serenades. The chill of sea ice and the
sharpness of pewter buds. The mist
dances. It twirls. Pirouettes.
Arabesques.
It circles and hisses.
Circles and hisses. Circles
and hisses! And there it was, the
unfound door made of crystal shadows.
Lady Ophelia of the Golden Fleece, extends her
hand and holds the ****. She twists and
enters...
This poem is based on a dream I had while working on my stories. But I woke up so I have no idea what comes happens next...

Walk
Lyn-Purcell Aug 2017
As life passes,
and time goes on,
There comes a period
where we sit and reflect on
how our journeys have
been.
Memories, happy and
sad.
Old and new come back in mind
like the dance of a butterfly,
shimmering.
We all make mistakes, yes.
But still,
We all should go through life
without the worry or need
of regrets.
Believing that all we did, do, and will do is right.
We all dig up the past, to try and understand it.
We also put bricks and cement in place for our futures...

Davy Jones' Lullaby
Lyn-Purcell Oct 2017
Here, I glide to regions unknown.
On the tides of bliss, you are shown.
A stroke from you can calm my heart.
Forlorn and fear, depart.

How the sun is dim to your smile.
West winds blow as I dream of the Isle
For that one day, where we lock our hands
Upon the golden sands...

Writhe and roar! Sea and tempest grow!
Rise, my Dutchman! Rock to and fro!
Set the sails and man all the helms!
Our journey never ends.

Death ascends upon the throne.
As wild as he is alone.
Come to the sea, and cut through waves
Hurry to your water grave.

And my love who can't be restained.
I will vow that I'll make you pay
Drag them, bind them, take their souls
And hear the death bell toll!

For my love, I gave you my heart.
So that we will never part.
Forever you were my always.
Your curse, I won't obey.

How I've we'd meet on the lands.
Words of love have crumbled into sand.
For years, I drown with misery.
.Dead chest, safeguard my heart...
Was binge watching the PoTC franchise. It reminded me of how much I loved Davy Jones' lullaby.
Not great I know so I apologise! These are the words that come into mind
when I listen to the OST.

Crystal Ball

Sweet Sibyls of eld
who sing of mysteries held
My envy flowers

How I yearn to see
The written future for me
Miracles and pain

Do I want to know?
What you see in crystal *****?
The magic's in me...
A set of haiku's based on my walk around my local area. A woman was handing out leaflets about palm-reading, the whole sha-bang.
It got me thinking...  few years ago, I believed that people can see the future through a crystal ball. Now, though I believe in the supernatural (that there is something more to this world and beyond), I realised that I'd rather not know. The true magic to make my future lies within me and me alone...

How easy it is for one's mind to change
from jumps and joy
to a hollow
shell

Disappointed

No
sadness
just a place I go
in mind where I walk in and
turn the **** to block noise with noise
The noise of my mind conquers the noise of my body

Disappointment travels in and out my ears
Never to stop or dock
If I let it dock,
then my bubble pops
And just like that, my mood has changed.
Great (!) And I was real excited and amped.
I'll block out noise with noise. My inner noise that is. One people underestimate and tell me to 'get over'.
When I feel hollow, I kinda shut down physically. Everything goes blank. There's not tears only blankness and a quiet bubble for the noisy thoughts I have.
Oh well, tomorrow is another day. And the day after is my birthday.
Things will get better, hopefully.
Anyway. More Sijo and Lantern poems will be uploaded soon enough.
Have a good night everyone!

Yearn
Lyn-Purcell Sep 2018

~
Ever had that point in your life where
you wished you could just press
a button and restart your whole
life?

Never losing any of the knowledge
that you have now?
It seems like I'm having more and
more of those days...

I try my best to walk on the path
of light, but I can't help but turn
and feel the shadows crawling
behind me

How they yearn to sharpen their
blades with their poisoned whispers
and seek my neck to slit my throat
The memories of my 'childhood'
coming back to bite and drag me
down to my death
I only wish to build for my future,
to move on,
begin anew,
to rise about the turmoil that burns
in me

For the man I hate most in this world...
Even now, I'm not sure that I fully
understand the past
I have so many questions, still
But I guess I will never truly understand
it, not as I am now anyway...
But it's better to understand than me
seeking to solve it

I can't change my past
I can't delete my mistakes
I'm still at war, fighting off my insecurities
my self-loathing
my depression
my anxieties
my shame
my anger

As scared as I am, my hand
is on the handle that leads
to my Hall of Hope
Small, it may be, but hope
is something that is hard to ****
once it has taken root

The key, stability, is there beyond
my gaze
My future is the only thing I have
There's nothing left for me in the past,
nothing but pain and a black-hole
of emotion
So I humbly ask you...

Help me to overcome and experience
my best life that hides behind my fears
I won't let anyone jeopardise what could
be for me, for the sake of jealousy or even
impulse

I can't be a tree that never bears fruit...
For risks are apart of life
So I will follow you,
with my heart praying for salvation
From the smoke from the past,
you present me my mirror
even if it's something I do not wish
to see

My past, I will make peace with
but I will create my bright future
~

the most beautiful woman
will only leave one with
a sour heart,
and
a mouthful of bile.

Now, I see and I tell myself
to love one not for their looks
for that will wither.
To love not for their wealth or status
for it is only temporary.

But to love the heart,
fully and purely.

Just because the Knight's armour shines
doesn't mean he's not a monster.
Just because she's a distressed Damsel doesn't
mean that she is without fault.

Love is life's adversary in every single way.
Treasure all of who they are.
Don't let society blind you.
Look at them hard,
long and deep.

Hear their song and see their light.
Soothe their pain and calm their demons.

This is how to love.
Truly love....
A reflective poem I wrote in my journal.
There's been so much drama on my end so I'll try and update as much as I can.

Walk with Me
Lyn-Purcell Jan 2018
At my birth I drew my first breath...
my cries an announcement of my existence
My arrival.
And yet as I walk upon the water,
I stare and see you, a cold spectre above my crown.
Though I age, I feel your air circle around me.
As I age, I see your wings are aglow.
As I age, I'm nearing, nearing towards you.
And yet you stand, everstill and true.
My poem I wrote based on what I witnessed in a  hospital. A woman was screaming in grief at the loss of loved one. The one truth of life is meeting death...

Merope
Lyn-Purcell Aug 2020

Autumn curls whipped by wind
Her light faint and stained by shame
Tears run down rose cheeks

New day, new haiku!
And here is the last of the Seven Sisters! ^^
This haiku is for Merope. She is known as the lost Pleiad.
There are many variations of her myth but the one I am aware of is that out of her sisters, she was the only one to have had lusted and had was intimate with a mortal. Hence why her light is 'faint and stained by shame' compared to her sisters. So I was hoping to capture her insecurity in this haiku.
Let me know what you think!
Anyway, thank you all for growing followers, I'm forever humbled and grateful for the support🙏🌹💜

Dear Society
Lyn-Purcell Jun 2018
Dear society, I'm tired of your
debauching standards of what
it means to be beautiful into a
mere commodity.

Dear society, why can't you look
into the windows of the soul? Are
you scared to see a flawed being
just like yourself? Scared to see
what truly lies in the heart? Scared
to see more and want more than
just a body?

Dear society, what you call
beauty now is only joy for
your eyes. There should be
more to us than just *** appeal.

Dear society, your expections
has done more harm that good.
Those who fall in line will always
be accepted. And the ordinary
will be rejected...

You've made me feel like I'll never
be good enough. That my life
should be dictated to meet your
standards. No matter what I do,
there will always be something
wrong with me. Some imperfection
that I'll be forced to fix.

I am more than flesh and bone.
I am more than blood and tone.
For years, you've made me sad,
you've made me hate.
And I refuse to die bound to
to a dark fate.
Society *****.
There is more to people than outer appearance,
or is that concept boring now?
Oh well.

Be back soon!

Body and Glaze
Lyn-Purcell Aug 2018

The tongue is dipped into
sun-like ink. Prepared and
with its slick tip, it makes its
trail from the body, to shoulder,
to neck and to lip,
Round and round, focused,
skilful.

Soft, slow and steady
upon a body of the finest ivory.
Teasing as it swirls, twists and
turns, to make a body with love
and beauty.

As it rightfully desires to be marked,
to be loved,
to be teased,
and desired.

So when the tongue moves away,
and the trail finally sets, I hold
up the bashful body as if it were
sacred. I watch it glow and
instinctively know, that
it will stand the
test of time.

A beauty above all else...

Something rather sensual about painting a ceramic bowl ;)

What I need is still waters
But pebbles are thrown

Perspective
Lyn-Purcell Aug 2017
I've encountered people who often told
me that when I stumble on the edge,
the fall would
****
me.
In truth, it's dependant on the lens you
choose to look though.
On the edges of life,
you can be killed as you
fall
or
as you
land.
Another poem from my journal.

Mind
Lyn-Purcell Sep 2018
The mind is throbbing
Thoughts and doubts, screaming loudly
Blurring my vision
