Applauding someone's beauty never
diminishes your own, so be kind
to adjust their crowns, and
not rip it off their heads.
We are all equally beautiful, man and woman. Appreciating someone else's beauty in no way undermines yours so help each other. Shine their crowns,
instead of knocking it off.
Too bad the world doesn't feel this way...

If given the opportunity to wear a
true crown of light and life, I will
gladly trample on the crown of
the world.
One of my mottos!
Theres only so much material things can do.
I understand that people want to have things they never hand but I've noticed there will always be a void there...

Sweet Sibyls of eld
who sing of mysteries held
My envy flowers

How I yearn to see
The written future for me
Miracles and pain

Do I want to know?
What you see in crystal *****?
The magic's in me...
A set of haiku's based on my walk around my local area. A woman was handing out leaflets about palm-reading, the whole sha-bang.
It got me thinking...  few years ago, I believed that people can see the future through a crystal ball. Now, though I believe in the supernatural (that there is something more to this world and beyond), I realised that I'd rather not know. The true magic to make my future lies within me and me alone...

Life begins and ends
with a cry so use the time
to touch many lives
I know people want to have a life where they can have things they never had before. I understand, I too want that life but I also want something greater than having 'things'. I want to touch and help as many people as I can while I'm here. I want to touch many lives. To me that's far more significant. To know you have met and talked to people who you've inspired to move forward and see light in their darkness.

I can't tell which
hurts more.
Disappointment or pain?
I know the daunting feeling of the
unknown can be a strain.
We only ever want to live
doing the things that are good
for our souls
Our dreams will never work
unless we do with
blood and
sweat and
Tears.
No denying that
it's so hard.
Both disappointment and
pain are
diseases
But the most corrosive
to the mind is
doubt
Another poem that I wrote in my journal. Based on my internal conflict.

The Dame stands before me,
droplets of sorrow falling
from her eyes

A sad, vulnerable beauty...

But little did I know that she
was a delicate calamity

whose body is made from
screams of the howling
oceans

A false crown made from
a long dead sun

Eyes as cool and cold
and cunning as a viper

And a heart long since
barren

Thank goodness I've cut out such people from my life....

Prophecy foretold
When golden rain meets her womb,
a hero shall rise

New day, new haiku!
This one is for Danaë, the mother of Perseus, one of the greatest heroes of Greek Myth.

Long in short, her father, King Acrisius was visited the Oracle of Delphi due to not having any sons and wanted to know if it will change in the future. It was not to be as the Oracle prophecized that the King will die at the hands of his daughter's sons. Hoping to avoid this, he imprisisoned his beautiful daughter in a tower of brass [it was either that, a tower of bronze or chamber of bronze depending on the myth].

It was a prison of great fineries befitting her regal right, but a prison none the less. There were no windows or doors. Of course, Zeus saw her and desired her as she was a great beauty and through a tiny crack of the ceiling, became a shower of golden rain, impregnating her. When her father found out, she had already given birth to Perseus. And of course, he didnt believe the story behind his conception either. Furious by the child, and fearful of the prophecy [as well as stirring the god's wrath should he harm his own kin], he sealed his daughter and grandson in a wooden box and cast them into the turbulent sea. By Poseidon's hands, the chest eventually arrived safely to Seriphos, ruled by Polydectes. And the king's brother, Dictys, found them, took them in and raised him as his own. And well, the rest is history, I guess! ^-^
I've always liked Danaë and frankly, the story of her father can be condensed into a quote by Oogway, "One often meets his destiny on the road he takes to avoid it." This quote can apply to other myths too so it's really apt. I played around with the haiku with this quote in mind!

Dance through the realm of
space and time, gliding
through the stars and
jumping over moon, sun and more

The hem of sunlit dress flutters as
the skies comes alive
with clouds of swallowtails;
sweet shimmering shards of diamonds

Let us spiral around
and laugh in symphony
Reach out our hands
Come, meet me at the outskirts
of Andromeda

My lips await you

Letting the mind wander! ^-^

Here, I glide to regions unknown.
On the tides of bliss, you are shown.
A stroke from you can calm my heart.
Forlorn and fear, depart.

How the sun is dim to your smile.
West winds blow as I dream of the Isle
For that one day, where we lock our hands
Upon the golden sands...

Writhe and roar! Sea and tempest grow!
Rise, my Dutchman! Rock to and fro!
Set the sails and man all the helms!
Our journey never ends.

Death ascends upon the throne.
As wild as he is alone.
Come to the sea, and cut through waves
Hurry to your water grave.

And my love who can't be restained.
I will vow that I'll make you pay
Drag them, bind them, take their souls
And hear the death bell toll!

For my love, I gave you my heart.
So that we will never part.
Forever you were my always.
Your curse, I won't obey.

How I've we'd meet on the lands.
Words of love have crumbled into sand.
For years, I drown with misery.
.Dead chest, safeguard my heart...
Was binge watching the PoTC franchise. It reminded me of how much I loved Davy Jones' lullaby.
Not great I know so I apologise! These are the words that come into mind

Today's yesterday
Becomes many yesterdays
Flow like lifetimes past

☁️

Leaving me adrift
As my heart now sprouts its wings
Yet cannot take flight

☁️

Cuddled close by dreams
All I want I wish to be
Then the feathers falls

☁️

Tomorrow echoes
As I reach to grasp its call
I fear the days past

☁️

For dry ink can haunt
Feathers plucked by every taunt
Sleepless heart weeps raw

☁️

Am I of the light
Am I worthy of the heights
or worth a twinkle

☁️

My heart on my lap
Mind abed on sea of grass
As I count the days

Mini haiku story...
It's one hell of a bad habit, being lost in my own head, my thoughts.
The years have gone by, and I find myself wishing more for a reset button.
Yet, I also wish to learn how to forgive oneself.
Theres so much I want to do, so much I want to prove to myself that I am capable of. I pray that the coming year will be one of deeper self reflection with the goals I have in mind...
I so wish to be a talented poetess for writing has been there for me through thick and thin.
The more I fall in love and improve, the more my heart aches...
I gotta keep moving forwards though
I cant die and not try, not yet,
Not yet...

Be back soon with more poems, thank you everyone for all the love and support, really.
Stay safe and well.

Dear society, I'm tired of your
debauching standards of what
it means to be beautiful into a
mere commodity.

Dear society, why can't you look
into the windows of the soul? Are
you scared to see a flawed being
just like yourself? Scared to see
what truly lies in the heart? Scared
to see more and want more than
just a body?

Dear society, what you call
beauty now is only joy for
your eyes. There should be
more to us than just *** appeal.

Dear society, your expections
has done more harm that good.
Those who fall in line will always
be accepted. And the ordinary
will be rejected...

You've made me feel like I'll never
be good enough. That my life
should be dictated to meet your
standards. No matter what I do,
there will always be something
wrong with me. Some imperfection
that I'll be forced to fix.

I am more than flesh and bone.
I am more than blood and tone.
For years, you've made me sad,
you've made me hate.
And I refuse to die bound to

Horn of plenty spills
Bread and wine sustains all man
She holds up the torch

New day, new haiku!
Not feeling 100% today...
Such a sad day overall in truth 😔 RIP to Chadwick Boseman, T'Challa of Wakanda. My heart is so broken, my condolences to his family 💔🙏
The coming week Im gonna see a doctor too. I hope that goes well.
Now, for the usual daily haiku!
This one is for Demeter, mother of Persephone, daughter of Kronos and Rhea and Goddess of Agriculture, but also health and marriage as well.

Of course, she is known for being apart of her daughter's myth. She fretted so much when Persephone was taken to the underworld. She was also known to be a grain mother for humans. The horn of plenty aka the cornucopia is one of her symbols as well as the torch hence they are referred in the haiku. The motherly figure who always gives and provides. Its very fitting, isnt it? A light in the darkness. A hope in the fear and dread.

Anyway, thank you all for growing followers, I'm forever humbled and grateful for the support 🙏🌹💜

Fine queen of Carthage
Kingdom grew from a bull's hide
Vow burns within her heart

New day, new haiku!
Yes, the Women of Myth series is ready to be continued! ^.^
Hard to believe that this is my 980th poem! I've extended the list so a lot to come now.
This haiku is about Queen Dido [aka Elissa], the legendary founding queen of Carthage, known as Tunisia today which is located in Africa, on the north-western coast.  I believe her name means 'wanderer' which suits her perfectly, to be honest.

Dido's story is one that is inspirational as well as tragic. Before she became the Queen of Carthage, she was a Princess of Tyre, a city in today's Lebanon.
After her father, King Mattan passed away [In Virgil's Aeneid, the King is named Belus], he wanted his children, Dido and Pygmalion to co-rule the Kingdom. At the time, Dido was married to Sychaeus / Acerbas, High Priest [ as well as and her paternal uncle] who amassed great wealth. The moment Mattan died, Pygmalion seized power and killed the high priest to gain his wealth and riches but it was not to be as Acerbas hid his wealth which Dido found and with it, as well as a handful of supporters, she fled Tyre, sailing the Mediterranean until they ended up in the north-western coast of Africa.

Safe from her brother's wrath, she came to meet the ruler of the land, Iarbas, and sold her land that can be covered by a bull's skin. Dido was as shrewd as she was beautiful. She cleverly cut the bull's skin into strips and used to enclose land for herself and her people, to Iarbas' shock and chagrin but clearly, he was impressed and intrigued. He honoured his word and the kingdom of Carthage was founded. The king watched her from afar, noting that under her rule, the kingdom thrived and he wanted her for himself.

But Dido made a vow to herself that she will take no other man as her husband. Iarbas was not swayed. He wanted her so much that reportedly, he threatened war. Feeling trapped and wanting to keep her word, Dido took her own life. Some say by sheathing a blade into herself on the funeral pyre another, by throwing herself into the pyre itself.

In Virgil's legendary poem, Aeneid, Dido fell head over heels for the Trojan Hero, Aeneas but still, her husband had a firm place in her heart. She took her own life when he was called away, following his duty to the gods.
But to be honest, I rather prefer the original story over Virgil's. For it gives this beautifully clever and tragic queen a more well-rounded view. Though Virgil's narrative is similar and further exaggerates her tragic end through Aeneas rejecting her which majorly contributed to her end.

Dido is a fascinating character to me. She deserves every respect, this wonderful mortal queen. 🌹
Anyway, thank you all for growing followers, I'm forever humbled and grateful for the support 🙏🌹💜

I believe that no matter who you are, no matter how big or small,
there is a difference only you can make.
A philosophy I hold dear.
Lyn-Purcell Jul 2017
You go on and on about how I have changed.
But then,
name someone who stays the same forever.

You go on and on about how I've disappointed you.
But then,
name someone who doesn't have a fault.

You go on and on about how I don't take friendship seriously.
But then,
name someone who doesn't know the importance of friendship.

I. AM. HUMAN.
Yes, I have changed.
Yes, I may have disappointed you. (I don't live for you and only you.)
Yes, I know the value of real friendship.
But what about you?

It's people like you, people you've loved and trusted the most, that end up doing the most damage to you.
You didn't think I would find out about you going behind my back.
You didn't think I would find out about the manipulation.
You didn't think I would find out about several things.
And you know what, I'll wield my tongue against you.
No longer will you take my silence for granted.
I will betray my philosophy of 'It's better to walk away than to fight blood and tooth in a battle where the victor is right.'

I'm sorely disappointed in you because you became your reflection, of everything you said you would never be.
Hence why in my eyes, you were never real to me.
Even if I were to confront and tell you this, I know that any
apology that I get from you is meaningless.
You aren't genuinely sorry, but sorry that I discovered the truth from a yellow-teethed, snot-nosed, two-faced rat that you love so dearly.

Granted, the unspoken truths and half-lies have taken care of the past. But it has dawned to me, in the present...

that it will have no future
Based on an experience that I had. One that made me realise alot of things about friendship and for me to take a closer look on the people that I hold so dear, and cleanse myself from those who I saw as toxic
Lyn-Purcell Jun 2020

The future will need me more
than my own past would

Another beautiful day today!
Here I am at work listening to Ludovico Einaudi's 'Divienire' track on repeat. I listened to it on the way and will do so throughout my shift.
His music makes me feel so reflective, so emotional.
And slowly, I am learning to forgive myself for all my past mistakes, as much as I lament on them.
I know my future needs me more than my past ever would.
It's hard, but I'm getting there...
Slowly but surely.
So Amanda, this one's for you! Thank you so much for everything 😊💜🌹

Divenire translates into 'to become / becoming' I believe which is fitting.
I have so many plans in the works. I will do my best to turn up as the person I dream of being in this life.

For those who want to hear the track, here is the link:  https://youtu.be/b8SkX9CSJQo
Please do listen, it's well worth it! Easily one of my favourite composers to date! I discovered him by accident but it was well worth it!

You got to find a way to survive
'Cause they win when your soul dies
RIP to one of the greatest rappers that ever lived, Tupac.
I stopped listening to rap music years ago, but Tupac....Tupac's the exception.
He truly was a poet with his message and music; his voice ITSELF was music.
He empowered without denouncing, he spoke about many topics.
And for that, he will always have my respect.
He's what I call a musician.
Granted, he swore, he made his mistakes but he was ahead of his time.
He was wise, he was fierce, he was so confident.
He was a solider.
'Baby, Don't Cry' will forever be in my heart, and these two lines ALONE spoke volumes to me. It still does...
I'm sorry for not being as active. My headache's gotten worse...
But indeed, in life, you need to survive. If you give up, your enemies wins and your soul dies in the process.
Be back soon!

~
I trust yet I'm suspicious
I love yet I'm hateful
I laugh loud but I cry
I observe, I'm not blind
I try so hard by confidence
shakes
Try harder, esteem breaks
I stand strong with laughter
aimed
Locked deep, my ferno rage
I clam up
Guards up
Shields up
Inside, the shards of my bones
break
Laughter to me is a sword
with two faces
I see the argent lighthearted face,
but my eye is locked on its
shadowed edge
Malicious, cruel, sharp and swift
Sheathed ever so deep into my heart
I can hear the echoes more than feeling the pain
I pick so blindly at an open wound
My mind is a riot, a murked brew
of emotions
Time will heal the wounds,
but it's a scar I'll always remember
Anger screams
Sadness cries
Frustation seethes
A joke, am I?
The sun is dead
Blocked out by echoes
Ink
So disoriented
Heart pulses
I cannot think...
~

Trying to calm a turbulent sea that currently is my mind...

And I'm making Dragon Beard Candy for the first time - vanilla flavoured!
I'm watching it cool down like a hawk...it's so fricking slow, it's driving me up the wall! But I'm in awe of how delicate it is. I can't wait to see how it tastes!
Be back soon!

There is more to a woman
than her appearance.
Look deep and see the
dragon that roars in her soul.
See how her flames reduces to
ashes all who stand in her way.
Including herself...

Theres more to everyone than meets the eye.
Sometimes they may be at war with themself...

~
Her opalescent wings unfurl under the
clear skies, glittering beautifully under
the golden glory of the sun
As she opens her jaws, lances of flame
covers the green, ravaging life with scalding
kisses of red and orange and purple and gold
Her breath has grown hotter over the years -
now able to melt steel and stone, flesh and bone
But her eyes, molten suns are always wet with
affection when she looks at me
Her claws are curved, sharper than Damascus
steel, the shade of deep obsidian.
Her tail long and spiked; a dangerous whip
Her scales drinking in sun as she watches
me dip my feet into the sea. From it, rises smoke.
Like the water, its's rising and receding into
nothing.
A clear blue and it seems so vast and endless
Just looking at the horizon makes me feel so
free...

My head is hurting so I just let my imagination wander...
Thank you so much for 236 followers!! It means so much to me!

My silver Knight,
shining with angelic splendour has sailed
towards the outer regions of my Kingdom
to lay waste to all my enemies. My heart in
hands, my hands are clasped, brought alive
with love, with light, with prayer.
Please, come back to me.
As I think of arrows piercing his breast,
or swords, or warhammers or even axes
I cannot, will not ever dance to the songs
of war.
A fire that claims souls, the earth that drinks
blood, a sight that makes my stomach turn
To see men fighting for a cause or no cause
at all. For war rapes all of happiness and loved
ones.
Oh! Begone tortuous thoughts! Revolting facts!
He will return. He will return!
For my nation prays with fervour, but all have
bleary-eyes, no more than me. He's gone to brave
the dragon's dawn - of men branded, fuelled by
the flames of war, riding into the fields on their
snow kissed mounts, roaring and clashing under
a broken sky; the kiss of steel, blades that dance
between life and death and give any and many
the kiss of Eternal Sleep.
The harp of his silver tongue plays soft, gentle and
true. Hand in hand, we walk through fields, of my
dreams divine! The ambition, the care, the charm
glowing in your eyes to be something more.
To you, I was a muse to climb and soar though the
heights, and you spoke so highly of my golden
sapient quill.
My heart, heavy, full of woe
As sleep has not come smoothly to my face,
my body, my heart, my soul.
You promised me, 'I will return to you.'
  'I will return to you,'
how your voice hung so sweet in my ear,
ripe with love, vibrant with hope, certain as the rising light
Please do not fade away, I could not bear it!
Please don't fade away!
Bring unto me that gold and joyous hour!
Fair the storms and roars; overcome the shores,
slay and return to me from the dragon's dawn,
unscathed and with a smile on your handsome
face.

Why
should I feel
inferior by the opinions
and comments of others around
Opinions are never facts so dust it off
and move on and up
Though I know
I'm insecure
about myself
and the future
I know I'm a
dragon with
the breath of
fire All those
determined to
destroy me the
best way is to
set me on fire
watch as I die
watch as I burn
bask in that light
but know this
I won't **** my-
self over you
I will **** my-
self for me
burn away the
shame rise from
ashes and roar
like a dragon
Because once
I've hit the bot-
tom, my wings
begin to stretch
the way to go
now  is     up
People don't seem to understand how their words can destroy others.
Their words have alot of weight. One word is all it takes to push someone over the edge! Words are like arrows, once you let them lose, you can't take them back! You can only watch as they hit the target.
I know what it's like to be on the edge, I know what it's like to feel like you're going to self-destruct. I feel like that every day of my life -  wondering if I am worthy, if I'll ever be good enough. Fighting off depression as well as anxiety. I'm one HUGE bottle of nerves. But I owe it to myself to keep feeding my own inner fire and my dragon. To rise like a phoenix, roar proud like a dragon and take flight.
One's opinion of you can hurt but it's not fact.
Never will it BE a fact.
Anyway, I appreciate everyone here on HP.
You all add to my positivity. I feel at home here because people are so supportive.
Thank you.
Be back soon!

Dreaming in my mind
Walking under blue moonlight
on clouds of yonder
I once had this dream of walking on clouds under a blue moon in a long white dress.
Loved it because I woke up the next day with a really calm mind.

The twine sides of the Golden Threads
shimmers above the inky abyss.
Raining tears of pure starlight
baptise me with your grace.
Wash away my iniquities,
calm my passions that
burn with the lust of
a thousands suns,
and replace them
with the tender
lullaby of the
moons.

Allow
me to be born
again. Allow me to
wake in a sea of clouds,
painted by the daily promise
of many hues. Let me be able to taste
the sweetness that grows, away from any
lemons that dares to moan, and break the shackles.

Allow me to drift.
Not the best of days today. I just wish I could let go of all that burdens me.

How I want two things
To stand out and stay hidden
To let passion speak
I'm usually a very shy person.
I want to stand out yet remain somewhat ambiguous.
I want to be known for what I've created, not how I look...
I can be loud and bubbly but man, I do want to stay vague.
I want my work, my poems, my stories to speak for itself
I really am a Gemini in that aspect.
That's just how I am, I guess...
I've had more than enough drama
Be back soon!
