i've learned the hard way
that life will never be
as beautiful as poetry
and that we will never be
as perfect as we sound
when squished between
similes and metaphors
so while we don't fit together
quite as well as puzzle pieces
and you sometimes
might not complete me
as well as a cup of coffee
my hand still feels
quite nice in yours

and i don't need a poem to say that

you always know
when to point out
the beautiful things
you just always seem
to forget about yourself

Now I know
How betrayal feels
To be burned
By your very source of light

Loving you
Is like drowning
Reaching for the brim
Waiting for you to help me
Instead of learning how to swim

I cuff our wrists together
and tell myself
you're deciding to stay

If love is a two way street
I'm the person on the sidewalk

Your harmful words
Pass through me as I bath in
My own compliments

it's autumn
the trees are letting go
of year long relationships
so why the ****
can't i

and I think the part
that gives me the most pain
is the fact that i will always love you
and you will never feel the same

between myself and autumn

just think of that person as a flower
if you came across them
would you pluck it for yourself
or water it

You told me I wasn't you cup of tea
So I tried adding some sugar and cream
But by the time I was to your liking

This was the closest I could get

I've tried to write
So many poems about you
But you're beauty is copyrighted
And I don't believe
In plagiarism

You held the paper
between you lips
and inhaled

I've never
Been so jealous
Of a cigarette

She kissed him
With question marks?
While he kissed her
With "quotations"
And together they became
a run on sentence...

I try to tiptoe across the pain
but you caught my tears hidden by the rain
you try to tell me everything will be okay
But all I hear is that I will always love you

And that you will never feel the same

You called it our song
But I only got to sing with you
When I was forced between your legs

I feel like a star
so small from afar
yearning for someone to come closer
and see that I'm more
than just another speck in the sky

space is my addiction
proximity is key

i saw you last night
in my dreams, such a small world
we are becoming

I was waiting for a happy ending

I showed you my art
expecting an "ew"
But then you rolled up your sleeve
and said "I draw too"

i watch the ink run down my arm
the pen, writing the feelings
i could never explain with words;
sitting on my bathroom floor
never led to anything
but unwanted art

I'm torn between
The comfort
Of your waist
And the warmth
Of your cheek

the last thing I tasted
was chocolate chip cookies
as you pulled away
giggling
and leaving my lips
tingling

You carved and shaped me to your liking
and then threw me away
when there was nothing left of me

i am sorry
that when you broke
i didn't help you back together
but started checking your pieces
to see if any of them could serve
to fill my missing ones

i inhaled sharply
as if our fingers sliding together
was the breath of fresh air
i never knew i needed

The
spark between us
just kept going out but
i kept fixing the bulb every
time desperate to not
be left alone in

I got lost in your eyes
The practically held
The entire universe

don't beg for help
on how to get back up
from the feet
that stood on your legs
and convinced you
you couldn't walk
