Gaea
Lyn-Purcell Aug 2020

Born in chaos dawn
Led by her defiant heart
Rise to conquer plains

New day, new haiku!
Still not feeling 100%, but I'm getting there.
This one is for Gaia, Mother Earth, wife and mother of Ouranos (Father Sky to her Mother Earth) and mother to the Titans (which includes Kronos and Rhea).

History certainly has a way of repeating itself. Before Zeus rose against his father Kronos for the position of King of the Gods, Kronos did the same with Ouranous. Though he birthed children with Gaea, he reputedly hated them and sealed his Giant-children back in her womb. In an act of defiance, she rose against him and Kronos joined, for he loathed his father. When the battle was won, Kronos became King of the Gods...before the prophecy came to him that he too would be deposed by one of his offsprings. When this happened, Gaea sided with Zeus and helped him rise to Kingship.

Well, that was until he sealed her children in Tartaros after the war was won. When she tried to rise against Zeus, all her attempts failed.
I made referrence to Tartarus and the battles she fought with the first line
And Tartarus was seen as a pit that lies deep within the Earth (that was his body apparently and she gave birth to the Giants by mating with him).
Gaea too is a bit of a badass in my eyes for rising (and winning) against two Gods at least.

Nature always wins (reference to Poison Ivy hehe)

Megaera
Lyn-Purcell Aug 2020

Scream, her claws are sharp
Oathbreaker, she is justice
For your eyes wandered

New day, new haiku!
Still focusing on the Furies and feeling much better today too! This haiku is for Megaera, know as The Jealous. I believe that is the case because as one of the Goddesses of Vengeance, she punishes oathbreakers.

Anyone who has broken any sort of oaths as well as punishing infidelity, especially martial infidelity. I always believed she is known as the jealous because she embodies the rage of a loyal partner who was scorned by their lover due to their infidelity. So poetically ironic in my opinion.

So this haiku was written with her voice in mind, in why she is exacting justice as well as a good partner's vengeance.
One curious fact is that her own parentage has been called into questions as some say that she was the daughter of Erebus and Nyx and not born from the blood of a castrated Uranus.

Anyway, thank you all for growing followers, I'm forever humbled and grateful for the support 🙏🌹💜

"My Lady, you need to have a break."
"I can't afford to have one."
"Yes you can," Ainhara insists. "And
you will."
Lyn arches a brow. "Last time I checked,
I'm the queen here."

~ ⚪♫⚪ ~
Ainhara chuckles, "You are, My Lady,
and we are your most trusted friends
and handmaids. And as your friends,
we're telling you to have a break! And
I know the perfect thing to do. Esshi,
bring out the common garbs."

~ ⚪♫⚪ ~
Esshi looks at Ainhara confused before
realisation hits her and she runs to the
Queen's closet.
"Ainhara, what do you have planned?"
Ainhara looks at her Queen's confused
face and with a cheeky wink and smiles
says, "Your freedom!"
And finally, part 10!
What better way to end this than with a cliffhanger? ;P
Because of the hours of my course, I won't be able to
update this series for a few days.
I'll be posting shorter poems, but I'm only doing my course 4 days a week
and I will let everyone know when I'm about to continue this story.
Thank you so much, I truly hope you're enjoying this series as much as I am!
This story has nearly done!
Be back soon! Wish me luck for tomorrow!

The inspiration continues! I have more Lantern poems in the works, but this is another form of poetry I enjoyed! This is a Sijo, a fabulously short musical lyric practices by Korean poets, to whom it is dedicated! ^-^
Information for Sijo poems is here - go to slide 7&8 (https://www.slideserve.com/debbie/poetry-types-part-two)
Each line has be 14-16 syllables resulting a grand total of 44-46 syllables.
Mine is 14-15-16 syllable line by line with a total of 45!
I swear, my love for East Asia continues to grow.
It's giving me such a buzz!

~  ❀    ✾    ❀ ~

I'll definitely do more Sijo poems and Lantern poems!
Be back soon!

Truth of The Prison
Lyn-Purcell Jul 2017
The darkest prison
Shackles you to the worst fear
How people see you

So you do it all
You try to please everyone
At the cost of one

Finding happiness
You lose yourself in that fear
In prison's shadows
Some more haikus from my journal. Have you ever been one of those people to give up your own happiness just to please those around you? Easy to fall into, difficult to get out of...

Danaë

Prophecy foretold
When golden rain meets her womb,
a hero shall rise

New day, new haiku!
This one is for Danaë, the mother of Perseus, one of the greatest heroes of Greek Myth.

Long in short, her father, King Acrisius was visited the Oracle of Delphi due to not having any sons and wanted to know if it will change in the future. It was not to be as the Oracle prophecized that the King will die at the hands of his daughter's sons. Hoping to avoid this, he imprisisoned his beautiful daughter in a tower of brass [it was either that, a tower of bronze or chamber of bronze depending on the myth].

It was a prison of great fineries befitting her regal right, but a prison none the less. There were no windows or doors. Of course, Zeus saw her and desired her as she was a great beauty and through a tiny crack of the ceiling, became a shower of golden rain, impregnating her. When her father found out, she had already given birth to Perseus. And of course, he didnt believe the story behind his conception either. Furious by the child, and fearful of the prophecy [as well as stirring the god's wrath should he harm his own kin], he sealed his daughter and grandson in a wooden box and cast them into the turbulent sea. By Poseidon's hands, the chest eventually arrived safely to Seriphos, ruled by Polydectes. And the king's brother, Dictys, found them, took them in and raised him as his own. And well, the rest is history, I guess! ^-^
I've always liked Danaë and frankly, the story of her father can be condensed into a quote by Oogway, "One often meets his destiny on the road he takes to avoid it." This quote can apply to other myths too so it's really apt. I played around with the haiku with this quote in mind!

Anyway, thank you all for growing followers, I'm forever humbled and grateful for the support🙏🌹💜

Will to Slay
Lyn-Purcell Jun 2018
We all need to find the will
to slay the green-eyed dragon,
who is deluded by the idea
of keeping that sweet song
for his ears alone.

Selfish in not wanting
to share the flame
of love.
Be wary about the ones who are jealous of you.
Their potential to harm is dangerously high.
They'll always be eager to take you down.

Umbra Witch
Lyn-Purcell Jul 2017
A woman stands strong and sensuous and proud
Her mind a fractured mirror cloaked in fog
Shard by shard
The bayonet finds her way, following the sweet scent of the ****** rose
Wielding her Scarborough Fair
The sass of Parsley
The wisdoms of Sage
The touch of Rosemary
The passage of Thyme

The woman
Born of the dark side of the moon
With powers untold
Able to twist and bend the spindles of shadows and time
Fair-skinned
Lips full and glazed with cardinal sin
Slick locks of ebony
A perfumed 500 year blur
With the night's lunar charm that twinkles in her eye
And butterflies that swoon for their Madama
She
The blood child born of the union of the sun and moon
The black sheep of the dark arts
Is one with the most beloved of Umbran treasures
Is the sweetest cherry with a long-forgotten radiant smile,
A harsh destiny
Who looks to the left side of the moon for the upcoming chaos.
Based on one of my favorite games, Bayonetta. This is a poem I wrote in my journal today also!

New day, new haiku!
Slowly getting there today. Thank you to all who sent me kind comments, I really appreciate it! Truly, they are lights that make the days better by far.
Free verses are still in the works too.

This haiku is for Pandia, a minor goddess of sorts. Said to be the daughter of Selene and Zeus. In some myths, Pandia is a epithet for Selene herself. Again, theres not much on her at all but still. Even the most minor of goddesses should get some love, right?

Anyway, thank you all for growing followers, I'm forever humbled and grateful for the support 🙏🌹💜

"Just browsing," Nyl says, softening
her voice. "Do you have any Puhan

the best notepads. Oh, and some

Michael chuckles, "You and my wife

Her handmaids can tell she is smiling
under her veil. With shining eyes, Nyl
skips up the steps and admires the books.
Esshi and Ainhara follow behind her.
"Honey!" The three women turn to see
a slender shadow of a woman from the
far corner of the room. " I've taken the
Puhan inventory. Just the Luciuscemi
carvings to do! Oh." She turns head to
face Lyn, Esshi and Ainhara.

When she walks out of the shadows,
she smiles. She was in a long beige
dress, her hair in a low ponytail and
simple brown shoes. "Hello!"
"I was just talking about you, Bree."
His wife raises a brow. "Oh really?"
"He says that you too are a lover
of Puhan's ink-sticks and notepads."
Nyl beams.

Mini haiku! Feeling somewhat better compared to yesterday. But I know I have alot to work on and alot of things I need to unlearn.

Being on the Earth and walking through

And yet, I find me with a different face

Lesson Learned #104
Lyn-Purcell Jun 2018
Success can be a double edged sword.
You worked hard, are at the top
and yet, people hate you.
Why can't we enjoy
success without
the need of
envy?
Haters will hate. But the people of the past will work harder to destroy you.
I wish people would push others, not tear people down.
There's room for everyone, right? Or is it just me being naive?
Just wishful thinking?
I don't know.

☁️

Today's yesterday
Becomes many yesterdays
Flow like lifetimes past

☁️

Leaving me adrift
As my heart now sprouts its wings
Yet cannot take flight

☁️

Cuddled close by dreams
All I want I wish to be
Then the feathers falls

☁️

Tomorrow echoes
As I reach to grasp its call
I fear the days past

☁️

For dry ink can haunt
Feathers plucked by every taunt
Sleepless heart weeps raw

☁️

Am I of the light
Am I worthy of the heights
or worth a twinkle

☁️

My heart on my lap
Mind abed on sea of grass
As I count the days

Mini haiku story...
It's one hell of a bad habit, being lost in my own head, my thoughts.
The years have gone by, and I find myself wishing more for a reset button.
Yet, I also wish to learn how to forgive oneself.
Theres so much I want to do, so much I want to prove to myself that I am capable of. I pray that the coming year will be one of deeper self reflection with the goals I have in mind...
I so wish to be a talented poetess for writing has been there for me through thick and thin.
The more I fall in love and improve, the more my heart aches...
I gotta keep moving forwards though
I cant die and not try, not yet,
Not yet...

Be back soon with more poems, thank you everyone for all the love and support, really.
Stay safe and well.
Much love,

She glides through this life
gowned and glowing in
white

In her hand, a candle with
a golden flame that never
dies

And she spotted me on the
beach with a branch in my
hand

As I was drawing my scars
in the sea-kissed sands. It
was

then that I felt behind me
a tender heat, so I turned
and

met her gaze. The scars I
drew in the sand healed.
Under

my feet, a path of glass
marble that when kissed
by
the sunlight, became a
rainbow. She beckoned
me

to follow her to which I
did and we ventured through
sky, land and sea

She spoke so gently
She smiled so kindly
Her words had so much
worth with such little
cost

My sorrowed heart was halved
My joy seemed to double
And then she said she had
to go.

But she smiled and said that
she was never far behind,
and if ever in doubt, I should
look to the sky

I'll see her star and feel her gaze
And I would always end up with
a smiling face.

Handing me her undead candle,
she floated away and I would never
forget that day.

She saw me a someone who
could heal and touch many lives
And like the talent in me,
it will never die

Now watching the dying sun,
by the beach, I turn my face
to the empty seat.

No, I shouldn't say empty.
So it is sweet to smile and
meet the angel that burns
with a kind heat
This poem is a tribute to Sue, who wrote a delightful kind poem for me called the 'angel with a broken wing'. I really cried at how beautiful it was so here is my poem to her to thank her.

Body of the sea
All life swims about her womb
Don't lash her fury

New day, new haiku!
Still not feeling so great but I want to keep writing. I apologise for the inactivity.
I'm working on some free verses too. I'll let you all know when it's about to drop.
This haiku is for Thalassa, the primordial goddess of the seas.
She gave birth to the Telkhines, the four sea gods. They were also said to be warlocks and blacksmiths as well. Thalia was also the mother of the sea-nymph, Halia. This goddess was said to personify the very Mediterranean Sea and was a figure in Aesop's stories.

Being that her 'body is the sea', this poem is a reference to motherhood as well. For in her womb, various types of life, known and unknown.
And we as human begins defile her body with *******...
So sad...

Yet, I admit, feel a tad uninspired.
So I gently wave my hand towards
two handmaids. Essha, a musician

There is so much ahead that my eyes
can see. Rings of still, clear waters
around the green hills of near and

into my people's town. How it warms
me to see them all smiling and laughing,
going about their daily business.

A brethren of sweet lilies in the

their rosy lips which I gently stroke.
Violets coiled around the bare feet of

My star-kissed diadem, though
resting on my curls, is caressed by
the light as I turn my face towards

And by the docks of my Aurelinaea,
are many argosies with wooden

syrups and jellies from fruits and

I know my future needs me more than my past ever would.

Love is a woven dichotomy

The sweetest of fruits and most merciless of storms

On the heart of each palm, pain-salted tears

we all have, share and hold

Under the and sun-kissed days

and moon-soul nights

We choose to maintain our stories

while fighting against the tyranny of life

and its harsh game of glass chess

For which none of us can truly escape

but play to soon become skilled against

Strife's master

So with scarred skin and wounded hearts,

We trudge through rings of Hell

for the mere test of Heaven on Earth

The ever beautiful dichotomy of love is something I always tend to ponder...
Stay safe and well, everyone!

Pure as baby's breath
Veils be blessed with good repute
when two becomes one

New day, new haiku!
Feeling better today, too, slowly but surely!
As promised, I'm moving onto the daughters of Hephaestus and Aglaia [aka Kharis, one of the three Charites] and the first woman of myth is Eukleia [aka Eucleia], who is a goddess of good repute and glory.

There isn't much on her per say, but she is linked with Artemis. Sometimes, people take Eukleia for Artemis. Well, that's what Plutarch did anyway.
Like her mother and aunts, she was known to be an attendant for Aphrodite as well as representing the good repute of a pure bride.

Baby's breath is known to symbolise innocence, which links in with a beautiful bride in white and I always like to think that Eukleia blesses the veils of every bride before they walk down the aisle.
I wanted to paint the image of a final blessing for a woman before she walks down the aisle to be one with her other half.

Thanks again for all the love and support! I saw Hekate was trending for a while, im really grateful! 🙏
Todays haiku follows another woman of myth, the Enchantress Circe, another woman I adore.
Ive read so many myths about her as well as Madeline Miller's novel, Circe (a fantastic read and adaptation of her story - her writing is impeccable. A definite recommend!)
Her role in the Odyssey I've always found somewhat charming, as charismatic as enigmatic as Hekate in a way. And I always try to be playful when conveying sensuousness also hehe!

New day, new haiku!
Not feeling 100% today...
Such a sad day overall in truth 😔 RIP to Chadwick Boseman, T'Challa of Wakanda. My heart is so broken, my condolences to his family 💔🙏
The coming week Im gonna see a doctor too. I hope that goes well.
Now, for the usual daily haiku!
This one is for Demeter, mother of Persephone, daughter of Kronos and Rhea and Goddess of Agriculture, but also health and marriage as well.

Of course, she is known for being apart of her daughter's myth. She fretted so much when Persephone was taken to the underworld. She was also known to be a grain mother for humans. The horn of plenty aka the cornucopia is one of her symbols as well as the torch hence they are referred in the haiku. The motherly figure who always gives and provides. Its very fitting, isnt it? A light in the darkness. A hope in the fear and dread.

"May her ******* satisfy you."

******* were made to feed the
seed that grows in a woman's
womb, born between a couple's
love.

                                                                     When the seed has finally
                                                                      sprouted, they drink the
milk of the mother to help
                                                                      their growth.

The beauty of a woman is to carry life
The beauty of *** is to make new life
The beauty of ******* is to strengthen
that life

                                                                          Not for your filthy mind.
Why would you hate on a
                                                                          mother strengthening her
                                                                          child?

A life that a man helps to create.

                                Must everything be sexualized?
First off, thank you everyone for liking my poem, They May But They Won't.
I saw it was trending and I was so excited! I literally jumped from having 65 followers to 75! That was crazy! I'm super grateful for the comments and the support! I'm becoming more confident in my skills as a poet, knowing there are such wonderfully supportive people on HelloPoetry! You guys are awesome!

Secondly, this poem is dedicated to an incident I witnessed today. Some teenage boys were mocking a mother for breastfeeding her child. I was so angry but several women and men stood up for her, and the boys were kicked out! I approached the woman and we had a brief conversation about it. I don't get why people hate on such a natural thing. That's what women's ******* are for! You can give a baby formula but nothing beats breast milk! The boys attitude towards it was absolutely disgusting! So ******* are only used to attract and can only be playthings now? Anyone who has that mentality seriously needs to grow up!

I'm a young person with an old-soul. Fitting! ^.^
So, this poem is dedicated to all mothers everywhere, specifically breastfeeding mothers. I know how much of a strain breastfeeding can be (I'm 22 and my mother never lets me live it down loool) but still, people shouldn't be hating on this natural act, just like ***. *** is a beautiful act but in this day and age...you know, I'm not gonna get into this now! Maybe later.

Thank you everyone, really!
I'm super grateful.

Gentle gardener
Heart screams when her fruits are plucked
Hope comes bolting by

New day, new haiku!
Yesterday, I just suddenly felt so weak and exhausted so I couldnt post this. I'm feeling a little better though but still so weak...
This one is for the Titaness, Rhea, the Great Mother, Queen of Heaven and wife of Kronos.
The haiku is alluding to Zeus' birth story and his eventual take down of his father.
You see, Kronos too was told a prophecy that one of his offspring would replace him. So every time he and Rhea had a child, he swallowed them.
I've seen the paintings for this depictions and...all I can say is wow really.
Just wow.
Rhea, mortified and sick of this, wanted to at least enjoy the fruits of motherhood so when she gave birth to Zeus, she his him in a cave and put a rock in baby clothes. Kronos didnt notice at first and just swallowed it and in a variant myth, he was raised in the cave and another said he was sent to Crete.
This situation is much the borth of Perseus with Danaë, and yet again another case of meeting ones destiny in desperation to avoid it,
Anyway, thank you all for growing followers, I'm forever humbled and grateful for the support 🙏🌹💜
