Phoenix
Lyn-Purcell Jul 2018
Listen to the beat of my
soul's drum as I am on
                             my knees, held down by
                         the fears and anxieties
                             that run ever so rampant

         With wings clipped, my eyes
                                take in the bleak horizon.
                                  My heart is a heavyweight.
My spirit is in shards, so
            what remains?

I feel the wind's fingers lift
                                caress my skin and my
chin, and with a single kiss,
                                       hope now begins to sprout
from my chest to my palms

The fire burns though I'm bruised,
I can stand on my two
cut feet. I am scared, but
if I let it conquer me, my
                                      wings will rot and crumble

I won't be able to touch, hold
                              and reach the true 'me'
                                        The highest and greatest me
                               who sits there, looking
                           waiting by God's side

Help me to be that phoenix,
the one who falls into the
ashes of the demons that haunt me
and rises again new, proud, free,
a blazing storm of acceptance and
         wisdom

I may cry,
I will die,
but with Your breath,
I will rise
I will rise
I will rise

I am a testament to a Conqueror's belief
Really struggling with my insecurities. I remember growing up, I wanted to be a dragon but then it changed to the Phoenix. Who dies and comes back new and stronger. Today's been a...emotional wreck for me.
Having both an emotional breakdown and feeling so lost on my identity and self-hatred.
But I know as long as I'm here, I will rise about it.
I will rise above it.
I will rise above it.
I have to...

"Ainhara, Esshi..." she says weakly.
"We...we have brought you some meals,
My Lady-" Ainhara says.
"I'm not hungry," Lyn shakes her head.
"Share it amongst yourselves. I... I
really don't have the strength to eat."
"If you do not eat, how will you have the
strength to write?" Esshi counters, earning
a weak laugh and a deep sigh.

~ ⚪♫⚪ ~
"My Lady, we know you are worried
Aurelinaea and about the morrow," Ainhara
takes a step towards her, " but I assure you,
all will be well."
"More and more people are coming in,
I'm struggling to find good homes for them.
And tomorrow, marks the beginning of my
10-week studies." Lyn murmurs. "I'd be
lying if I said I wasn't terrified. I don't
want to be a failure. I want to believe that
I am good enough, but..."

~ ⚪♫⚪ ~
Lyn covers her face with her hands and
begins to whimper, her body shaking
slightly in fear. They hear tears hit the
papers below her.
Ainhara and Esshi frown and place hands
on her back.
"My Lady, please don't cry. You are a
wonderful ruler," Esshi cooes, "you will
find homes for the newcomers. Aurelinaea
blossoms more with under your rule!"

~ ⚪♫⚪ ~
"And with your bookish nature, you
will surely do well in your studies."
Ainhara adds. "You did say you wanted
to challenge yourself and this is a sure
way to do it. It's normal to be afraid but
once you settle in, it will all be well.
Just remember to enjoy the ride."

Tisiphone
Lyn-Purcell Aug 2020

Swathed in blood-wet robes
Bat wings stirs her viper curls
Soul of vengeance burns

New day, new haiku!
Now that I have the Charites and the younger Charites out of the way, I wanted to focus on the Furies, who are among some of my favourite goddesses! The Furies are also known as the Erinnyes, and are known to be the goddesses of vengeance and each of the sisters punished different crimes. It is said that the Furies were born from the blood that was spilt when Kronos castrated his father, Uranus.

Tisiphone [aka Tilphousia] was known to punish criminals who commited homicide, patricide and fratricide. In the first line of the haiku, it is a reference to Virigl's Aeneid, where he described Tisiphone as being "clothed in a blood-wet dress." I changed it from dress to robe because in Ovid's Metamorphoses poem, she wore a red robe with a snake about her waist; which leads into line two. The Erinnyes have been depicited differently over the years but what stuck with me growing up was the image of them being like the gorgon sisters only; with bat like wings and snake-like hair.
And of course, the last line speaks of her role as a goddess of vengence.

Like her sister, she is a woman to be feared. A blood soaked beauty. It is quite fitting for her and her sisters to be servents of Hades and Persephone, punishing those criminals in Tartarus...

Anyway, thank you all for growing followers, I'm forever humbled and grateful for the support 🙏🌹💜

II.
To love pales in comparison of being loved,
but to love and be loved in turn?
Truly puissant, indeed.

III.
Though on the thread of life, the ink will spill
but never fades away. Now I see. If all I am
is to be nothing but a memory, the least
I can do is to make it a good one for the
future seeds.
Memory can slip and slide, but these words,
my words, that I have painted will remain.
More excerpts from my poetry book, 'Mythos', that was privately published in the final year of university. Again, it's already copyrighted so no one can take or use it without my permission! Sitting on a Sill
Lyn-Purcell Dec 2020

Flame tongues ravages wood,
licking till its black splints
A mug of cocoa caresses my palms
and my lap became a coaster
Every sip leaves me feeling toasty
My forehead rests upon the glass
console by Frost's lips

Jack's designs were of floral mandalas
Soft as clouds, gentle flakes
Each made with love for no design ever the same
I admire as they rain,
I imagine that they whisper secrets as they fall
Giggling so softly yet as pure as a baby's laugh
Coating all that is viridian in a shawl of white

Untouched
Unmarred
Cool yet so crisp
Beckoning for all to come out in a rush
For snowmen to be built, for snowballs to take flight
We would never feel your cold touch because
the warmth you give keeps us as one

Seeping down to our laughs,
You keep us close to our inner child
Nostalgia rests upon my lips
And greater still
Are these tender moments of unity
Upon my window sill

Getting into the festive spirit is easier said than done
And understandably so with 2020.
Just something I wrote while on my window sill.
It's rather cold, but I'm warmed by just letting my imagination run wild and thinking back to the days where I would just stare at the window and look at the undisturbed snow.
Something about seeing a fresh coat of snow leaves me so mesmerised.
Any who, I wish all of my fellow poets from all over the world a lovely Christmas. May you all stay safe and well!
I think I'm going to keep staring at my quiet neighbourhood for a while and wait for the stars to appear.
Be safe out there all.

I will trod upon your

Twenty-sixth Epulaeryu! ^-^
The Pâtisserie collection continues, haha!
Crepes are a guilty pleasure of mine.
Personally, I love mine with some lemon and honey.
Powdered sugar sprinkled on it with some berries on the side.
And the best part is that they can be sweet or savoury!
Br back with more soon!
Much love,

Bells sing at death's dance
Cloak of galaxies vapors
A scythe of petals
Just a short haiku I wrote based on a dream I had
of a sword with charms and bells.
Tommorow, I'll be dropping a third letter of my six part letter series!
It was so sad for me to write, but it will add another layer to the growing story
Heres a link to the three that I have written already:

Artemis
Lyn-Purcell Jun 2020

Daughter of the moon
Ride swift winds with a taut bow
Fierce upon the hunt

This haiku is dedicated to Artemis, Goddess of the Moon.
Again, another Goddess whom I adore, haha!

A heavy poem will be dropping soon, just making the final touches!

◦•☽✶☾•◦
Against the black of the sky, her ******* lay
Stars swirl and twirl about the poetry of her snow-skin
Rose lips part in joy as the seas in her eyes play
On her heart of palms, her light has a shadowed twin

◦•☽✶☾•◦

Stars swirl and twirl about the poetry of her snow-skin
As she bathes herself in a Milky Way's core
On her heart of palms, her light has a shadowed twin
A musk rose-scented beauty which she does all she can to ignore

◦•☽✶☾•◦

As she bathes herself in a Milky Way's core
Starlight whispers lullabies to still her fearful heart
A musk rose-scented beauty which she does all she can to ignore
With eyes downcast, she knew that she was broken from the very start

◦•☽✶☾•◦

Starlight whispers lullabies to still her fearful heart
Her locks a weeping rose willow over a mystic lagoon
With eyes downcast, she knew that she was broken from the very start
We may not see but we sense her pain, the light of the very moon

One of those days but what can you do?
It's strange how a piece of music can perfectly capture your feelings without words. Clair De Lune just suddenly played and I was just...surprised.
As if the universe knew how I was feeling. I always appreciated such beautiful piano pieces but this, in my current state of mind, made me love it's beauty all the more.

I just wrote this pantoum poem as it played...
I'm still extending my list so hopefully, I will start them up real soon too!
Thanks so much, everyone.
Please stay safe and well!
Be back soon!
Much love,

✿⊰✲⊱✿
A plain white sash across his chest;
with black trousers and matching boots.
"They look so happy together," Sarita
leans over to my ear, a smile in her
voice as everyone cheers.
"They really do." I say back. "Long
may they reign."
Hand in hand, Donna and Dean
descend down the steps as Paul
emerges from the crowds, the cheers
dying down.

✿⊰✲⊱✿
"Donna, Dean!" He embraces Dean like
a brother, and kisses Donna's hands.
He has a playful grin. "Welcome to
Luciuscemi!"
"Thank you for having us," Donna replies
as she looks around. "Oh my, you weren't
kidding when you said everyone was coming."
"We all have love for you. And we are all
thrilled about your marriage."
Donna turns to face everyone. "Thank you
all ever so for all your presents. Even now,
my men are still unpacking. To everyone
for wishing me and my family well, just know
I am greatly touched and humbled by all of
your support and kindness."
As she curtsies, we all cheer and return the
favour.

✿⊰✲⊱✿
I shyly approach her. "Queen Donna."
"Little Queen Lyn," she chuckles as we
embrace. "Ah! You look lovely!"
"Compared to you, I'm a plain Jane.
How long did it take to make a fine
dress?" I stroke my finger on the vibrant
embroidery on her skirts.
"Months. I'm just glad it was finished in
time for Paul's fine event. Same with
my love's jacket!"
I see Dean and Paul laughing together.
"By the way, thank you so much for the
rose-silks you sent me. And the crates of
wines and teas. You are quite the
connoisseur for your age. The book you
supplied me about each and every one
of those herbal teas is very impressive."
Second part of 9! ^-^

Roots
Lyn-Purcell Sep 2018
Don't keep your eye so focused
on soaring higher and higher
that you forget the ground

Nurture the soil
See that it stays rich and hale
But most importantly,
stay close to your roots

There is still pleasure and reward
for tending to the small details

As hard as it can be,
as draining, as annoying,
In the end it will sprout and
make your garden all the
more beautiful
There is beauty and energy in finer details when it comes to any craft we hold dear. It's best to do what you love for the soul, the sale comes next.
Too bad few people understand that...
Anyway, I'll be back tomorrow! ^-^
Night, y'all!

Alecto
Lyn-Purcell Aug 2020

Break beneath the whip
For anger's unceasing flow
Under winged shadows

New day, new haiku!
Just when I thought I was getting better, I feel unwell again.
Just my luck, I swear...
This haiku is for the last of the Furies, Alecto. Alongside being the Goddess of Vengeance, she was also the Goddess of Anger. I believe her name translates into 'Unceasing Anger'.
She said that she punished criminals who committed crimes of anger, especially against others.
There is one thing that I find very interesting about the sisters as a whole - how the lines of vengeance and justice are completely blurred.
This sort of philosophy of vengeance and justice will always fascinate me.

Anyway, thank you all for growing followers, I'm forever humbled and grateful for the support 🙏🌹💜

Gaze
Lyn-Purcell Jul 2017
My body may be here,
but my mind is always in the
stratosphere.
Where I can truly remain a child.
I can be anything and everything.
A ballet dancer
A power ranger
A samurai
A sailor scout
An avatar
A mangaka
A proud otaku
Everything that makes me, well, me.
I don't wear smiles because
my mind smiles for me all the time.
And physically smiling would drain me.
I'm usually cautious with optimism anyway.
As anxious as I am about life,
I'm not unhappy.
Not everyone has the energy to smile
day in and day out.
Well, there are some people.
Needless to say, I'm not one of them.
The world endlessly talks, shouts and screams
I'm surrounded by people who acknowledge or
forget their reasons
on why they breathe.
It encourages me, to be honest...
So I remain silent.
More thoughts for the day...
