Long Play
Carlo C Gomez Jan 2020
Vinyl is so final
It can quickly turn the table
And just for the record
The surface is scratched
About half way down your back
In disdain we repeat the refrain
But I fear this time next year
The goodnight kiss we'll skip
I cannot say for certain
When we lost our groove
Broken but never spoken
We wear it on our sleeve
Carlo C Gomez Jan 2020
The tomahawk man writes
In prussic acid,
The orphans of Eureka,
Freckled flaws and faces,
Yearn for their mothers,
Wish father might be captured,
And forced to think
Beyond his obsessive deciphers,
A bottle of cognac and three roses
Placed on his grave marker
Every January 19,
As a reminder of life,
And a toast to death.

Angel of the Odd
Carlo C Gomez Jan 2020
Pray tell, is this weighed-down mortal
allowed to borrow your angelic wings?

Can such a grounded soul learn to fly from your all-or-nothing example?

If I keep my promise to follow the endless strings of love to the bitter end

Shall I then perhaps come close to seeing the birth of a new sun, the very first breath of the open sea?

Will you care enough to embrace me in this unbearable lightness of being?

You don't have to say either yes or no

Just tell me it is possible...

Sick of shepherd's pie
Hunting different friendly animals

A prayer for the near living
Wonder why so high
Defection from the starry heavens

It was the woman you gave me
Move on to a new stimuli
So...you live around here often?

You're so pretty
Can I take your picture?
How about one with your top off?
Don't leave
I didn't mean to make
You uncomfortable
Would you like some more wine?
It will help you relax
That's better, now drink up
Are you okay?
You look faint
Why don't you rest on the bed
You'll feel better soon...

Some write from their heart
Others bare their soul
Some write for the art
Others to feel whole
Some write to inform
Others to get a laugh
Some write as a platform
Others to land a gaff
Some write to rant and lobby
Others to find peace
Some write as a hobby
Others in search of a masterpiece

I immediately know by
the way you look up at me
from underneath your lashes

you don't have to say a word

convey their own thoughts

Carlo C Gomez Jan 2020
Today I got taken out
of my box and nuked
for a dizzy-filled eight minutes,
all my artificial byproducts,
and something close to,
but not quite called, meat
melted and congealed together
in a semi-appetizing way,
just enough to be consumed
in a famished **** of teeth,
gums, and spittle,
and here I now sit in a pit
--purgatory's gut--
dreaming I was made of real
pepperoni and sausage,
running free in the open fields
of DiGiorno.
Inspired by the poem "Monologue of What Was Once a Sunkist Orange" from fellow HP writer Yacov Mitchenko, which is a really good poem by-the-way.

Vassal King in a Queen Bed
Carlo C Gomez Jan 2020
Once upon a time
in a tiny kingdom
called Beautiful Water
there lived a silly faux monarch and his fair maiden
in their castle aka duplex

No mote, no portcullis
but one groovy fence about a humble abode
littered with rooms
ill-appointed and dingy
but with affectionate wainscoting in spades

Nonetheless, they would often rue
the lack of spoil within those walls
'twas an age of shoddy floor-space
like a page with no margins
hence, the royal bedchamber was more a sleep shed

Trips out of town, no doubt
called for something fancy
a room with a view
a bed fit for a king
to stretch out without bother

But a funny thing happened on the way
to forming a quorum
they both pined
for the cramped quarters
left behind

The little bumps
and rubs in the night
came to be a comfort
a way of saying
"Hello, I know you're there and I like it that way"

Sentimental Journey
Carlo C Gomez Jan 2020
"I'm restless, I think I'll go for a walk."

And so, you visited Ephesus,
on the ancient coast of Ionia,
browsing books in the Library of Celsus.

You wandered through
large ionic columns in Jerash,
the chariot marks of
the Oval Forum and Cardo
visible at your feet.

You then climbed Mount Alban
to the rise of its 2,200 terraces,
“Grand Plaza” shadowed from the sun,
where the ritualistic games
often meant death.

"How was your walk?"
I asked upon your return.

"Substantial," you said
falling back into bed.
"But not as tangible
as my life with you."

Different for Girls
Carlo C Gomez Jan 2020
Long overdue,
a woman of tennis
came out of the wilderness,
and gave birth to
electrolyte towers,
naturally no one would give her
the credit for such powers,
her smarts were seen as a threat,
so she took them to court,
(centre court),
and won, love set.

Saturday's child worked hard
and won the spelling bee,
but on the prize
they just couldn't agree,
she was the best in her class,
no doubt, but still
only a girl, you see,
can you guess the word
that pushed her over the top?

Carlo C Gomez Jan 2020
Hear her soft lilt before espying her
from the promenade?

Listen carefully for mondegreen.
This morning she will come out
of the water, risen from froth,
made of the same elements
as Adam's Eve,
a pastiche dressed in summer's flurry,
transpicuous & clung-to,
amaryllises strung about
hair & thoughts,
the sinfully twisted scent
of Bergamot Orange
filling the nostrils as they flare.

Shall she succeed in coaxing you back
to a tree that once held such promise?
It's called Temptation for a reason.

The World Wildlife Fund in Australia estimates that as many as 1.25 billion animals may have been killed directly or indirectly from fires that have scorched Australia. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Australia, the nation's leading animal welfare charity, is accepting donations to fund the rescue and treatment of animals affected by the fires. RSPCA chapters in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia are accepting donations.

And phasers on stun
Don't worry lovergirl

But you'll burn your fingers trying
Look at the front of her dress

No need of compass
For her ******* point the way
Once derailed

Too Much Time Spent in Cars
Carlo C Gomez Jan 2020
Green yellow red
Are the color of my pills
Pass go I collect them all
The road rages in my head

There's a special place
In my heart for guns:
Left ventricle
Where the bullet lodged

I had a hard time
Seeing other people's
Point of view
So I started collecting opinions
Now I can't make up my mind

I like to go places
It's people I avoid
I travel mostly abroad
But can't recall her name
Half the time

A good driving record
Is worth zilch these days
But ******* might
Lower my premiums

Dogs are man's best friend
Yet they lick themselves
Men are better drivers than women
Yet they trick themselves
Too much time spent in cars
And not enough
In the one they love

There's an old saying
I can't remember
And it goes something
Like this:

Wipe the dust from your feet
Before you come inside
It keeps the house in order
Especially should it get
Sold out from under you

Most of us are but one paycheck
Away from being homeless
Man is the most dangerous animal
Dwelling in the cage of his vehicle
I used to work on Wall Street
Most days now I just pray

Don't worry
Everything equals out in the end
Except life
I'm always so sure
What lies beyond the next bend
Will finally be to my advantage
How could it be though
When my creditors
Own the road?

Does it make a sound?

Or does it simply,

Fall upon the deaf ears

Eating out is a nightmare
as every meal dissolves
into a food poisoning scare.

Riding the merry-go-round
is a disaster, your claim of being allergic
to horses forces them to shut it down.

Google is your friend,
symptom searches are endless
whether they're real or pretend.

While reading this poem
you begin to feel a bit worse for wear,
wishing you were in bed at home.

Headache?
Brain tumor is your answer.
Sore throat?
It's probably cancer.

You're not sure if your back hurts

neurotic to a fault
you call in sick to your own wedding.

nonetheless, we do wish you a speedy

Eternal Cry
Carlo C Gomez Jan 2020
In the clearing
where lambs graze
our daughters also
walk at their leisure
toward school
...
there are no fences here
the shepherds allegedly
keep watch in the darkest of hours
but when steps from
an intersecting path
lunge forth as
the unsuspecting wolf
a twisted creature
upon our precious girls
these herdsmen are
certifiably blind and mute
neglectful staffs
striking the air
...
listen closely now
to the gathering winds
their transformation is actually
echoes of our own children's
eternal cries
