The Next Ten
Abigail Hobbs Jan 2020
Calm and quiet
Rolling in like a storm
Bright and warm as preceding ember
This was how you begin
The road to wisdom
Is deep within
Happy New Year and new decade to all of you, I wish everyone good health emotionally, physically and mentally.
One thing I'm thinking: what's next?

Spring 2
Abigail Hobbs Mar 2019
The first days of warmth
always seem long, perpetual
Though grateful for rays beaming, burning the dark of winter from you
The death of winter leaving,
thus spring gracing us
with its gilded flowers and endless light

Golden boy, tell me you love me
under the distant, golden sun
In a golden grained field
where we can explore this love
Amidst the grained plain
where wildflowers roam
where wildflowers it has gained.

Silence filled the night
Waiting for the sun to come
Still bathed in moonlight,
a dreamer dreams not only in slumber
but in broad daylight
Head above, in with the sun

Picking Daisies
Abigail Hobbs Jan 2019
A frost had already settled late that night
Into the tenth hour, when most would be sleeping
All was quiet and cold on the front
When the stars presented themselves, you presented yourself to the sky
I imagine as gracefully as sunrise
Quiet and unsuspecting,
it sprang on us like an early spring

When winter turns to spring
and daisies push their way through the dirt
when the transition is done
I'll think of your fight to push through life, yet open yourself up
just as flower petals open to this world
Even though you passed in winter, spring will remind us of you
After a harsh winter, spring will be there to guide us,
whether we've made peace with the season,
whether we're ready and however early
We'll pick daisies to take you with us on this spring's journey

For my dear Aunt, who passed away earlier this month. She was 39, but had a long fight with Cystic Fibrosis. Her favorite flowers were daisies :)

Tonight, a memory came
I tried to recall
But, suddenly, you start to fade
Has it really been that long?
Your laugh is distant
If I could, would I try to remember in an instant?
The answer is unclear
Where have you gone in my head,
my dear?
Is this what letting go feels like?
I still remember my feelings,
but they're faint
akin to old paint peeling
in the attic of my body
forgotten, rusted and creating a new setting
Taking down the pictures,
setting up new fixtures for someone new to visit
I don't know how to say this
But, tonight, a memory came
I tried to recall
but came only a blurry face
and no will to remember at all.
Reposting this with a few edits, because the words ring truer to how I feel now :)

Closing Time
Abigail Hobbs Jan 2019
The words came spewing out of this burdened body of mine
It took much time
and borrowed space
Now I can begin to think of you
as someone faint
A sob overtook my soul
and thanked me for finally letting go
I'm ready for something new
After what I thought had been the best
After thinking, for thousands of minutes, there was only you
It's alright, darling, I don't need to know why
Just that there's peace
within this funny thing called life
Closure is an amazing thing.

Winter Mornings
Abigail Hobbs Dec 2018
To see you sleeping peacefully
amongst the snow and quiet outside
is a treasure and present, I know
I love to hear you say, I love you,
especially on Christmas mornings
With an otherwise sleeping city,
sleeplessness is all right
with you by my side.

Love of Mine Like Air
Abigail Hobbs Nov 2018
Oh sweet love of mine
Your warmth breath had me weak at the knees
as the cold air broke through the trees
Surrounded we were with nature
Tell me, who is your creator
You seem to be crafted from the fog that weaves between the pine
And I, the tree that roots itself here
and through all of time
May we become one
The clouds diffused the moonlight
I'll tell you time and time again we'll be alright
You ask only one thing
What are all of the markings for?
This is who I am, and all I've bore
Oh sweet love of mine
Take me by the roots
and release me from a past time
Thank you, everyone, for all of your love recently on my poems. It means the world to me. :)

My awakening broke the dawn
And my eyes lifted the sun
And the moon lowered to the dirt
in a sorrow of goodbyes
And up lifted my spirits
in anticipation of dawn breaking into common daylight
And all is even on the horizon

Just A Moment
Abigail Hobbs Jul 2018
My heart jumps at you
You in the dream
You in the memory
You with the dazzling smile
You woke it up
My heart thuds
Banging against the wall
I decided to put you in
I'm healed, I tell it
And for a moment my heart stops
It misses
It yearns
It spills
It pours tears as if
Its been a million years
My heart, oh my heart
Cry and
miss and
Then go back to sleep
Just for a moment it needed to weep
Its been a while, HP!

Flower, Child
Abigail Hobbs Jun 2018
And your soul will be replenished
once you're showered with
what you crave
and yearn for the most
Your roots spread
and dig
and grow
You'll spurt into the tall blades
into the night sky, even
Your curled petals
will open to this world
What do you need?
Your stretched petals will tell you
And so will the sun,
the great source in the sky
Grow and grow through the garden
The garden is your home
to rest
to replenish
You need a home
You need others akin to a home
Flowers need love
And love you shall receive, child.

Spring's Wildflowers
Abigail Hobbs Jun 2018
Can these wildflowers' scent
lure me to a high of
when things weren't so wild
and we could predict
the oncoming spring
and what this season would bring
I guess, in a way,
the wild times have come to a close
I just have to remember
to stop
and have a word with those flowers
and ask them
when they think I'll spring
The air tells me many things
and I think my time will come

Ocean Heart
Abigail Hobbs Jun 2018
Let the soft waves
rock you to sleep
before they crash
Let the foam
wrap it's advice around you
(it sticks around for a while)
claw through the sand
when it's said and done
when you come to
scallop edged waves, you could watch them for hours
the salt cleanses, washes wounds clean
(it may take a while)
Are you there yet?
Are you aware yet?
Is your reflection as it was before?
How does this ripple effect you?
Salted air, open the eyes
Fill the lungs with newness
Let the sun dry you
Let the rays hug you
in your new beginnings.

Up There
Abigail Hobbs Jun 2018
Dear, soft pink clouds,
you make up my dreams
and the flush on my cheeks
Could I stay up above with you?
Just a while longer?
you make up the storms
collecting, waiting, observing,
after anxieties of darker, greyer days
Dear, active, changing clouds,
you make up my reality
and what happens behind the scenes

A Love Letter to Life
Abigail Hobbs May 2018
I can't deny the fact that when I think of you, the wind always passes through. I know you're not gone from this world, but it's like your ghost. But I think of it as we were meant to be- but for only the time it takes wind to come through. Fleeting, passing, cherished, and just for a moment.

You taught me what it means to truly cherish every bit someone gives you- no matter how close they are, no matter who they are, no matter how long they stay.

This is what life is about- love, learning to love, cherishing, living with others in every moment. It means to live when things come unexpected. I love all of the moments I can remember- however fleeting- however small- whatever they were and meant to be.

And just like the breeze- you'll come and go, and I'll cherish whatever and wherever it does- without denial.
Just some prose I need to get out there. Healing is a time consuming process.

Sun Season
Abigail Hobbs May 2018
There's a river
just threatening to spill over
unless this rain season ends
Some days I long for a drought
Can there be days full of sunshine
and no worries?
Does that exist?
A day of melting ice cream,
the meddling sun putting
you in a trance
and only the worry is
what you do with
so much day left
No threatening drops for once
or hearts freezing stiff
You just... be.
And the rivers are at bay.

Pianoing through time,
dusting over your fingertips,
leaving small papertrails
"Crystalize the truth for me."
And so,
stardust will.
Oh mystical stardust,
why do you come at random?
The twinkle in your eye,
dancing through your dreams,
resting on the back of the moon,
Welcome, stardust.
Welcome to this world of love and doom.
Inspired by someone I know, who's heard the word "stardust" quite a few times in different contexts the past week.

Ocean Mind
Abigail Hobbs May 2018
Waves come crashing, as do
memories of you
How shall I remember you?
The oncoming and dreaded storm
that sends birds to other seas
to be far from it
the gentle breeze
just gracing the sands
letting the birds glide, their
wings singing so freely
maybe I'll stay here a while longer
soaking in these waves
Because, well,
what else shall I do with all of them?

The Nature of Change
Abigail Hobbs Apr 2018
His beauty brought attention
to even the prettiest of skies
His heart so full of passion,
even the fruit can't compare
His love in those crystal eyes,
even the water paled
But his color started to fade
The fall took what it could
His silence beckoned storms,
even across the seas
His hands of stone crushed
my spoiled heart-
He became
no longer in use
And so he left, along with the fall.

How could you?
Did you too,
ever love me?
Yes, even half past noon
How could I?
Ever love you?
Because I think I could've
Yes, even half past noon
And in the a.m.,
a quarter to two
An odd way to love, waiting in time
Maybe I shouldn't be so kind
Having you waste mine

The Nature of Healing
Abigail Hobbs Apr 2018
Hazy eyes thousand-yard-staring
into trangressing skies
One's lovesick and heartache
that terrifies the Earth to shake
Crippling fear so bad
the seeds of flowers
hide a little longer, maybe just a tad
Can you believe nature feels your sorrow?
It feels what you may, even tomorrow.

New Blues
Abigail Hobbs Apr 2018
I sometimes get stuck in January
when December was trying to be forgotten
As January rolls into February
and then into March,
time passes before my eyes
But my time with you
is not forgotten.
Forgive the past months, they're a part of you forever.

Springtime became her body
And winter sent well-wishes

The Last
Abigail Hobbs Apr 2018
"When can I see you again?"
almost graced my lips
But I am not one
for romantic clich├ęs
But maybe I should've
uttered those words
Before I hesitated
walking out that door
Only because I wondered
when I'd see you again
Maybe I should've
Because it was the last time
I'd see you.

Love was knowing our first touch
in that dimly lit room
just the two of us
and the sound of quiet charm
your lips meeting mine
and the way you gazed at me
Love was knowing you were there
Love was just the two of us
and our delicate touch
Love was...

Love was not this taste of leftovers
or my tears falling to my lips
or the way I crave a delicate touch
and the safety of your arms
or the comfort of your warmth
Love was not the way you abandoned ship
Love was not supposed to be like this
Love was to be around you
Love was how I fit with someone I barely knew
Love was...

To A Past Friend
Abigail Hobbs Apr 2018
You are toxic.
You are the words unspoken.
You were the missing questions.
You were the extra five minutes in my routine.
You were the extra glance in the mirror.
You were the no-good thought then.
You became the after-thought now.

The Cleansing
Abigail Hobbs Mar 2018
I scream to the stars above
"What do you want from me?!"
The wind picks up
Stealing what little breath I hold
Sleeping flowers awaken,
only to find that rain season has just begun
The rain comes from my eyes
I curse your moonbeam eyes
That once danced in front of mine
And in comes the sun
Burning where you once held me
And suddenly... peace.
