Love?
Ravanna Dee Nov 2016
That's the thing about love, isn't it?
You learn that,
though the heart is in your chest,
it no longer beats for just you.
Romans 5:8
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

My heart beats for Him.

Never Said.
Ravanna Dee Oct 2016
I remember the scarlet taste
from biting my lips.
I remember the salty water,
that my eyes had dripped.
I remember the silent screams,
that had rang in my head.
But most of all, I remember
all those desperate words I never said.
I know I write a lot of poems on words. But it's because I feel so strongly about them! We could change the world if only we spoke more kindly to one another and said what needed to be said. Holding words in hurts too much anyway.

Closed eyes. Lies?
Ravanna Dee Oct 2016
They say eyes never lie.
But how can I know,
when yours are always closed?
When you're always blocking out the world?
Never opening up, or risking being exposed?
How can I know,
if truth is what you speak?
when your eyes,
never tell a thing?
Don't really know where this came from...

Going to the Source.
Ravanna Dee Sep 2016
In the lines around my mouth,
You could read two different stories.
They could've come from a smile.
Or quite possibly from a frown.
But honestly you'll never know,
Unless, you brave the risk,
       Of coming to me alone,
and asking me yourself.
Ravanna Dee Sep 2016
Sometimes- sometimes there are people that come into our lives who have us thinking that they're both the moon and the sun. We believe they must be part of some greater light that has the ability to fill those dark cracks in our hearts- our very beings, blinding us with their glory... But they aren't.
Actually, they're were just dust that got swept into our eyes, making everything blurry and more difficult to see. Causing our blindness. And, all that time, they were really just filling our cracks with cobwebs.
So, darling, let them go.
You don't need them to fill the vacancy anymore.
Don't hold onto people who aren't really there for you.
You deserve better. More.

A Letter to Everyone
Ravanna Dee Feb 2017
What saddens me horribly,
is that we spend too much time tangling ourselves up in our own insecurities.
Looping it around our throats and strangling our souls.
Maybe we need to start carrying around a mental knife...
Start cutting ourselves free before it’s too late.
The slow and painful process of watching a beautiful persons heart deflate from the negative needles that they turn on themselves, is becoming too common and too difficult to see.
Please, know that you're loved,
that you're unique,
that you're beautiful and smart.
Know that you're worthy of kindness.
Especially from yourself.

-Sincerely, A Stranger
Please, love yourself and treat people kindly. You never know if the person you're speaking to is silently breaking before you. An encouraging smile, a soft word, a gentle hand, a listening ear... We can all give something. And often, more times out of not, it's the small time that you've set aside for someone that can change a heart, even for just a moment. If you can make someone feel like they're worth something, do it. Love others, love yourself.

She was a different type of princess.
For all her monsters were inside her mind.

Is it not funny
how the right hemisphere of the brain
controls the left half of the body;
where our hearts reside?
It's as if,
God made sure
that our love
would be connected
to both our creative and emotional
half of our mind,
while also,
to our most precious
and protected *****.
It seems we
are being constantly reminded
that love is both:

See the Greed
Ravanna Dee Oct 2016
Fingers made of greed,
grip this world
by the
sleeves,
though they aren't
easy to see,
unless your eyes
have been
opened
by our
Heavenly
King.
Money is the root of all evil. And so many have been ensnared by it.
Ravanna Dee Oct 2016
Our thoughts are like an ocean.
For they make up most of who we are.
They can be very deep and vast,
And impossible to completely explore.
Sometimes you must tread lightly.
Watch what you do and think.
For there is the occasional drop off.
And with just one wrong step; you might sink.
Though sometimes it may seem scary,
Swimming in the dark and unknown...
It can also be quite beautiful,
With all that life, you don't feel so alone.
There is so many wondrous things,
Going on in our minds.
If we all just choose to open up a bit more,
Who knows what unique things we might find?
We don't seem to realize how incredibly lucky we are sometimes, to be created the way we are. It's so magnificent the things we could do if only we put our minds together! If we loved one another. If we respected one another. If more of us shared  who we are inside, without the cover up or the masks, but who we are really made to be, our stories; we could inspire so many! Imagine a world like that. It's beautiful, isn't it?

A Worthy Puzzle
Ravanna Dee Oct 2016
You're a million separate puzzle pieces.
Each a little different.
Some are a little plain.
Some are exceedingly detailed.
Some have sharp edges.
And some are softly curved.
But all together,
I know,
it's an extraordinary,
beautiful,
and priceless
picture.
Worth an entire life time,
solving.
Actually...possibly even longer.
We're all so complicated and unique in our creation. We all deserve someone who wants to piece together our whole picture.

What happened?
Ravanna Dee Nov 2016
Did the sun forget to shine,
Down on this barren earth?
For I see none of that greener grass anywhere,
See no place with worth.

Did the rain forget to fall,
Down to pass through our drying lips?
For now our words come out like sandpaper,
Cutting each other to slits.

Did the stars forget to glow,
And fill the darkness with their light?
For we all walk around with empty dreams,
And there's no wishing happening at night.

Did the wind forget to whisper,
It's softly spoken melody?
For our hearts seem to have forgotten,
The feeling of it's silent beauty.

Oh, what happened to that life,
That danced inside our skin,
That made us want to laugh,
That made us want to live?
Ravanna Dee Oct 2016
Now, why don't you stop looking,
at all your little imperfections.
Torturing yourself
with all your differences.
Every artist knows
that it's the smallest details
that make a picture valuable.
They make up what is you.
And that is beautiful
It's always the smallest of things we find we dislike. However, those small things are also what make us different. And being different in a world of carbon copies is amazing. You are amazing in all your flaws. Remember this.

Fearlessness is not overcoming all your fears. It's overcoming the way the fears hold you. So be scared, but don't stop what you're doing. Making your own conclusion.
Ravanna Dee Nov 2016
When you sit and stare at people,
As they go throughout their daily tasks,
Do you ever happen to wonder,
If the expression their wearing is a mask?
As they walk right on past you,
A smile drawn across their face,
Do you ever think that maybe,
In this world they actually feel out of place?
And when a mother catchers her child being reckless,
You watch as she speaks to him with fury,
Do you mentally chide her instantly, or wonder that if maybe,
That's her way she handles worry?
When a little girl of six,
Sits alone, watching everyone else,
Do you think that she is sad,
Or maybe that she just prefers to by herself?
So many times, so many cases,
We believe our own interpretation,
That our eyes and ears have sought the truth,
But then we learn, often too late, that they'd gathered misinformation.
Oh, all the countless times we see things,
And deem them to mean something of no such,
You would think the we would eventually learn,
Not to so quickly judge.
Often as humans, we see something and instantly make some conclusion as to what it means. That doesn't make it accurate, though. What we think we know can be completely different as to what it really is. However, I don't think we sometimes realize that. Sometimes we judge too quickly, too harshly, and it can often cause more harm than good.

You picked at her.
At first, you only did small pieces,
just took inconsequential pinches off here and there.
However, soon you became greedy.
Got comfortable stripping her of who she was.
Turning her inside out.
You ignored the empty gaps in her heart,
and tried to bandage the larger chunks
with who you wanted her to be.
But learned, like everyone eventually does,
that bandages don't always solve the problem.
Sometimes we bleed too much.
And sometime we keep bleeding until we can't.
That's what you did to her.
You picked at her
until there was nothing left to pick at.

Ravanna Dee Sep 2016
You grabbed my chest and ripped it open,
Until my heart- all I was, fell on the linoleum.
My lungs were full, so with careful precision,
You used a scalpel and made an incision.
For an agonizing time I waited...
As you slowly took me apart and left me debilitated.
You looked at my parts and with a close inspection
You tossed out the ones that weren't perfection.
Then you began to reassemble me, with parts that were new.
While you repeatedly told me how much better they would do.
I believed all of your words and didn't question it.
But once they were in, my chest hurt, and they felt unfit.
I wanted them out, and my old pieces back.
But you said that wouldn't work, I couldn't back track.
Now I'm stuck with pieces that don't fully fit me.
Because I fell into the worlds description of who I should be.
Do NOT conform to what the world thinks you should be. Be you. Be the person God made you! And love it with all your heart. Because you're His masterpiece.

And illuminates your profile.
It puts a bounce to your step and crinkles by your eyes.
And it seems to brush it's glorious glow to each passerby.
One day you were asked, "Why does your eyes hold the sunrise?"
And you spoke with a million rays of light as you replied,
"The world has gotten darker like midnight without stars.
As each and everyone of you demoralize yourself.

I like the words we do not say.
But rather speak through gestures.
The love that's brought through display.
And not spoken to us like lectures.

A kind smile and someones heartfelt tries,
is always a good way to heal,
a fractured heart and swollen eyes;
for those of us that prefer the real.

Words that do not have follow through.
Are as useless as they come.
If you and your words are untrue...
Then I suppose we here are done.

I like the words we do not have to say.
Rather, the ones we can speak through gestures.
I want the kind of love that's brought through display.

Over time, our foundation cracks.
And yet, we still keep going.
With dents and splinters and broken pieces.
We keep living and breathing and smiling.
And that, dear reader, is a beautiful miracle that so many miss.
That despite our ragged edges, we're still here.
We look for miracles in impossible things. The blind seeing. The paralyzed walking... But sometimes miracles are those small things we take for granted. It's waking up another day. Breathing another breath. Smiling when your heart thought it never would again. It's hearing that song you hadn't heard in forever and feeling like you're, once again, home. It's living when you thought you forgot how to. Those are miracles, those are the things that change the world.
Why? Because change starts when we do things, and we do things when we feel most alive.
