He doesn't burn photographs
He doesn't join therapy sessions
He doesn't smoke too many cigarettes
Nor he drown himself into alcohol
He scratches his wounds daily
And never let them heal
He doesn't try to get rid of the pain
Instead he let it grow on him
He waters the seed of sorrow with his tears
He feeds it with the manure of old memories
He takes it to sleep with him
And nurtures it in himself
Till the moment when every single drop of his blood gets replaced by this pain
Until his fragile heart can bear no more
And his soul starts overflowing with emotions
That's when he dip his pen into this pain
And empty his heart on a piece of paper
He bares his soul for us to feel
He creates poetry that the world would cherish for centuries to come
That's how true poetry comes into existence

As I write it down
Meera Apr 2018
My pen bleeds
As its ink seeps
My words cry
The seer weeps
I keep scrawling
Until my pain recedes
Walking on my way
Where my lament leads
Crumbling to bones
Changing to fit the needs
My frailty drives me
As nothingness breeds
In madness I did
Those fearful deeds
Now I'll have to pay
The price of my greed
Making me suffer
My demons succeed
In the garden of love
I feel like a ****
I am looking for my way
To the flowery meads
Where the chains will be shattered
And then I will be freed
Sometimes you just feel lost and there seems no way out

What makes you a poet
Meera Jul 2018
You’re not a poet because you know those ‘fancy’ words
You’re a poet because every word you write comes straight from your heart

You’re not a poet because people admire your work
You’re a poet because you write for your own contentment and not for people's consent

You’re not a poet because you feel alone
You’re a poet because pen and paper are your biggest companions

You’re not a poet because you understand emotions better
You’re a poet because you let them flow freely

You are not a poet because you’ve failed in love
You’re a poet because you’ve been in love deeper than anyone else

You’re not a poet because you are strong
You’re a poet because you don’t hide your weaknesses

You’re not a poet because you can heal hearts
You’re a poet because you know what it means to be broken
Dedicated to all the poets here. I feel happy to be a part of the community.

Do you remember our last meeting?
The last time we saw each other before separating our ways
The last time you looked deep into my eyes
The last time I held your hand
The last time I listened to your heart beats and breaths
The last time I brushed your hairs with my fingers
The last time I saw you smile
The last time you saw me cry
The last time I felt the warmth of your arms around me
And the last time we were so close that there wasn't enough space for air to pass through.
Do you still remember anything ?

Sita
Meera May 2018
The princess who chose
To live in exile
Holding  the hand of her husband
With a beautiful smile

Framed in a guile by Ravan
But she didn't fall in his wicked ways
Despite being held captive
And tortured for nights and days

She refused to go with Hanuman
When he came to rescue her
Insisted that Rama come openly to defeat her captor
In Rama's honor exile did she prefer

On the Ravan's  defeat - to prove her purity
She had to walk through fire
But the flames neither touched her body
And nor her attire

The fire bowed in her honor
But that wasn't enough
For the clouds of gloom
Were towering above

The world has never been fair to women
Despite of proving her purity
Sita had to leave
It was the height of cruelty

Cause Rama was as weak
In the face of his men
As strong he was
In front of Ravan

Rama- the man
Sita loved enough to die for
Asked her to leave
To the path that led abhor

Just imagine the way Sita would be looking at Rama
With whom she had to part
For he was standing dumb like a statue
When her world was falling apart

Would she have accused or looked down at him
As she asked mother earth to swallow her
She was going back to where she came from
In order to save the last shred of her honor
Sita was raised by King Janaka; she was not his natural daughter but sprang from a furrow when he was ploughing his field. Rama won her as his bride by bending Shiva’s bow, and she accompanied her husband when he went into exile. Though carried away to Lanka by Ravana, she kept herself chaste by concentrating her heart on Rama throughout her long imprisonment. On her return she asserted her purity and also proved it by voluntarily undergoing an ordeal by fire. Rama, however, banished her to the forest in deference to public opinion. There she gave birth to their two children, Kusha and Lava. After they reached maturity and were acknowledged by Rama to be his sons, she called upon her mother, Earth, to swallow her up.

Sita is worshipped as the incarnation of Lakshmi, the consort of Vishnu. Though often regarded as the embodiment of wifely devotion and self-sacrifice, she is critical of Rama at times, even in the earliest version of the Ramayana, and in some of the later versions of the story she departs from the idealized, chaste image of the earlier text.

Meera Jul 2018
I don’t want your fingers to bleed
while holding the pieces of my broken heart

I don’t want your eyes to cry
for the pain that lives inside me

I don't want your tounge to taste blood
each time it whispers my name

I don’t your hands to shiver
while reaching for my cold soul

I don’t want you to suffocate
while drawing air to my lungs

I don’t want you to consume
the venom that flows inside my veins

I don’t want you to break down
in the process of healing me

So I’ll love you but only from a safe distance
Knowing that we don’t belong to each other
I’ll always love you
But will never show it
i think it's better this way

Shiva and Shakti
Meera Apr 2018
Shiva- the destroyer
The plethora of power
The synonym of destruction
He- who can never be defeated
The one who can demolish the world by mere opening of his third eye
Halahal- the most vicious poison rests in whose throat
Words are never enough to define whose eminence
The greatest manifestation of divine
The eternal and the auspicious
That shiva- the ultimate god
Is a mere corpse without ‘Shakti’

She gives strength to the ‘supreme being’
And they say women are weak.....
Shakti- the female or generative principle; wife of Siva; Meaning sacred force, power or energy, it represents the Hindu concept or personification of the divine feminine aspect, sometimes referred to as 'The Divine Mother'. Shakti represents the active, dynamic principles of feminine power. In Shaktism, Shakti is worshiped as the Supreme Being. However, in other Hindu traditions, Shakti embodies the active energy and power of male deities

Meera Oct 2018
Ever got up early in the morning
To stare at the beauty of sunrise

Ever stayed up all night
To gaze at the million shining stars

Ever spent a whole hour in the park
Talking to a complete stranger

Ever planted flowers on a place
You never intend to visit again

Ever fed cookies to the stray pups
And got your hands licked by them

Ever read a book so good
That it changed your entire world

Ever walked on wet grass
As the tiny dew drops tickled your feet

Ever shared your lunch with a hungry child
To see his smile reflected in your eyes

Ever loved someone so much
That it broke you apart when he went away
In the end, everything gets reduced to love

When I was trembling
You held me
When I was falling
You supported me
When I was crying
You wiped my tears
When I was scared
You shared my fears
When I was low
You held me high
When I was lying
Flat on ground
You raised me up
To the level of sky
You stood for me
When no one else did
You cuddled me
As if I were a kid
When nights were dark
And the days were tough
To strengthen me
Your support was enough
But I forgot you
When the days were brighter
My selfishness made
Our friendship lighter
I feel so sorry
For letting you go
I am such a hog
Still forgive me though

You are the one with the bigger heart
Now please come back and hug me again
I have had my share of misery
And no more I can handle this pain

I beg your forgiveness
I cry in repentance
Please return my friend
And end my sentence

Dear Delhi
Meera Jul 2020
the town i was born in wasn't big enough
to contain the vastness of my dreams
so i moved out
i spent hours upon hours on the bank of river yamuna
looking for a sign
completely forgetting that a dead river can't speak
i misunderstood its silence for an invitation
so i moved in
i traded my inner peace for smoke filled air
and my innocence for the facade of a happy woman
delhi, i spent years of my life trying to fit in
to make sure that i belong
then why do the stares on the streets
tell me that i don't
delhi why have you been so cruel to me
like a failed mother forcing her expectations on her daughter
no matter what i did
i was never good enough
every time i tried to speak
you just didn't want to hear
you're a city trying to hide its deafness from its people
delhi why are you so unfair?
you throw stones at the workers that build you
and bow down at the feet of your destroyers
maybe you're just as confused and tired as me
people have taken more from you than you could give
so you stand exhausted, defeated and short of breath
and i do the same
for both of us have failed miserably
i could never be your daughter
and you could never be my home
i came looking for a home in a city which doesn't have space

Meera Jun 2018
You spend your nights tossing and turning on your creaky bed
You hug your demons like a teddy bear
You try to hush your cries for sometime
But still a tear or two escape from your eyes
You attempt to think about the old happy times
But you can't evade the darkness that surrounds you
Sleep has abandoned you like your lost love
And all you do is stare at the ceiling above
You are broken tormented and terrified
In a vicious circle of emptiness and sufferings
You crave for the warmth of your lover's arms
But all you get is the coldness of your bed
For tonight, my friend let the moon be our messenger
Through it lets talk about our broken hearts, lost love and shattered dreams
Let's talk about the pain that clouds our eyes
Let's share the warm hugs of kindness
Amidst this pain, let's not forget that we are warriors
Souls who refuse to give in
We'll fight against our demons like the warriors we are
We'll rise above this world once and for all
Never give up

she just wishes, you didn't exist

Was a bait to trap me
Behind your angelic face

You broke my heart ant ripped my soul
Until there was nothing left in me

The temptation to be loved made me fall for a devil
The devil that were you
And by the time I emerged from your hell
I was all black and blue
You stood there smiling
Watching me while I bled
Now I’ll make you pay
For every single tear I shed
Go run away from me
But I gonna chase you down
You’ll lie there repenting for your sins
While I’ll straighten my crown

What's your story??
Meera Jul 2018
One thing I love about people is that they have stories to tell you. Stories that tickle you and make you laugh really hard stories that bring tears to your eyes,
stories which quieten you and make you introspect
stories that awe you, stories which move your ground
stories which change your perception about life
stories that make you question the existence of god and stories which make you believe in him
stories that shake you to the core
stories which make you fall in love with someone and stories which break your heart
stories which make you feel complete and stories which help you realize your flaws
stories which fill you with agony and stories which make you feel blessed
stories which helps you understand the complexity of relationships
stories that make you value the tiny moments of happiness spent with loved ones
stories which kick you in the gut, stories which rip you apart, stories which make you feel naked
stories which scare the hell out of you, stories which bring out the warrior in you
stories that hurt you, stories which heal you
stories which help you find the purpose of your life and stories that stay in your heart forever.
So a person isn’t just a man/woman,
he/she is an untold story, an unsung song, an unread novel and an unraveled mystery waiting to be heard, sung , read and discovered.
All you need is the patience to listen, the warmth to care and the empathy to understand.
The magical world of stories is waiting for you
feel free to tell your stories.
Meera Jan 2020
Patriarchy is no glass ceiling
That you can shatter in one half-hearted blow
Or a fragile soap bubble
That you can pop easily with your acrylic nail
Instead it's a concrete roof
Built to trap your soul
To make you feel less of a human
And more of an object
It's a concrete roof with numerous cracks in it
Made by the women who came before us
And the women who live among us
For centuries they have spent their lives
Trying to build those cracks
So that light can enter
In our gloomy fates
And you have to do the same
For the women yet to come
So bring in your hammer, girl
We have some work to do
By some I mean a lot of it
We have to work for nights and days
Until the concrete crumbles to dust
And humanity breathes in free air
But don't you worry or freak out
Cause no matter how tough concrete is
The spirit of women will always be stronger
PS. Choose your battles wisely, sis. Recognize what's worth fighting for and what's not. The last thing you would want to do is waste your time and efforts on something that won't help the cause we're fighting for and would bring bad name to the entire movement.
Do something that the future you can be proud of.
Meera Oct 2018
Love her like she’s the only girl in the world.
Make her your top-most priority. When you’re awake, think of her. When you’re asleep dream of her. Drink in her beauty even if it’s venomous
Eat up all her words even if they hurt Breathe in her scent even when she’s stinking.
Let the love for her grow on you till your mind is full of her thoughts and your sketch book is full of her portraits.

Paint her scars beautifully with vibrant colors.
Get her name tattooed on your heart. When she strolls in the darkness, wander along.
When she falls down, lie down with her and stare at the night sky.
See the world through her eyes

Hold her hands when she is cold. Embrace her when she is scared.
Kiss her tears when she cries and become the reason behind her smile.

Don’t try to plaster her wounds.
Don’t try to pull her out of her miseries.
Instead, accept her the way she is- scathed and destroyed.

Be ready to kiss her good night at 3 a.m. ‘cause tormented souls like her can’t sleep earlier.

Pour all her insecurities, sorrows and grieves in a wine glass
and gulp them down in one go because that’s all she has to offer you. Emotions are like wine anyway, both get stronger with time.

Struggling with the pieces of her, you might lose your sanity.
Loving her might be difficult, suffocating and disturbing at times but don’t give up on her so easily.

Soon, you’ll know why hurricanes are named after people.
Thanks for reading this.

Something for an old friend
Meera Apr 2018
While every other woman lusts over gold and diamonds, the only piece of jewelry she owns is her grandma’s silver anklets.
Though everyone has labeled cooking as a tedious job, she still loves to prepare the Sunday brunch for her family.
While all her friends are busy clicking selfies for instagram, she sits in the corner embracing her books.

Unlike those youngsters who love swaying to EDM, she seeks solace in Mohd. Rafi songs.
As crazy and old-fashioned as it may sound but I have seen her wishing on lady birds
. Whenever she feels lonely and desolate she talks to the daffodils she has planted in her garden.
Instead of facebooking all the mishappenings of her life, she shares them with an old diary.
In the age of breakups, patchups and one-night stands, she is still waiting for her soul mate.

On your birthday she won’t post those cheesy birthday wishes on your time line, instead she’ll surprise you with a delicious birthday cake.
While, everyone else gets offended over the stupidest of things, she still believes in the magic of thankyou’s and sorries.
The world has been cold and bitter towards her but she has been spreading the warmth of her love wherever she goes.

‘Use and throw’ is the modus operandi of our generation but she believes in mending broken things
Because the hardships of her life has taught her what does it mean to be broken.
Whenever I  wonder about the emptiness of this world, her kind words are enough to restore my faith in humanity.
She is a bit cautious while making friends but she stands by them in their good or bad times.

She is not weird or crazy; she just belongs to a different time zone. In this ultra-modern world, she is still an old soul
Yeah it's a bit lengthy and doesn't look like a poem either but I don't think I could express it in fewer words

Sick of being a woman
Meera Feb 2018
I am sick of the stares that follow me everywhere
And of the letches I find on the street
I am sick of being catcalled on roads
And  then asked to be silent about it
I am sick of the curfews that my parents impose on me
And their fears about my safety which it reflects
I am sick of the **** cases I hear about everyday
And the threat that i might be its victim too
I am sick of acid attacks
And of one-sided lovers whose love isn’t actually love
I am sick of listening about dowry victims
And of how people burn their brides for money
I am sick about not being treated equally as men
And the discrimination I see everywhere
I am sick of being judged by my clothes
As if they aren’t my clothes but my character
Yes I am a woman
And trust me I am sick of it
Having undergone inexplicable misery being a woman in a place where women were placed on an elevated level in the past, the present commotion
of a world with annihilated human sensibility seems to have made life of women  a terrible experience in diurnal move in every day life forcing live in misery and pain.

The real 'She'

All you see is a smile on her face
Or how she walks with elegance and grace
How her laughter echoes in the air
And how the wind moves her hair
You see her lips painted in red
You see the tiara placed on her head
You see everything she lets you see
But what you don’t see is the real ‘she’
If you really want to see her, get closer
See her anxieties, strangled together
Look at her tears, she hides them better
Look at her soul, a withered flower
Close your eyes, if you want to see more
Can you see that pain, there is lot more
These criss-cross lines you feel on her arms
They are the traces, of her hidden scars
See there in the corner, her heart is lying
see it is bleeding, but not much crying
Listen to the secrets, she whispers in the dark
Hold her hand and you’ll feel a spark
Behind the surface there’s a lot to see
Deep in her eyes there’s a hidden mystery
A lot of mysteries are hidden behind the smile that she carries.

There is definitely something magical about first love
Butterflies in stomach, sleepless nights and the excitement of the first kiss.
The feeling of holding heaven in your hands
Like god is answering all your prayers
The way your cheeks flush scarlet when someone says his name
How your eyes twinkle like stars on seeing his picture flashing on screen
Your entire world brightens up with the glow of a thousand suns
You know, this wouldn’t last long but that doesn’t stop you
You keep falling deeper in love with each passing moment
Until the dream shatters like glass and reality steps in
Leaving you struggling with the broken pieces of your heart
This is the moment, you have to stay strong
For love is definitely not for the weak
You know what?!  You will fall in love again
Maybe not as passionately as the first time
Nevertheless, it doesn’t matter
‘Cause the flame of your first love will always stay inside you
Burning brighter minute by minute
Keeping you warm for nights and days
You can fall in love more than once but it's impossible to forget the person who taught you the meaning of love

In the scorching heat of desert
Amidst the burning sand
Love blooms like a daisy
Whenever you hold my hand

Others ruined my life
Like a sabotage
And the happiness I saw
Was just a mirage

The creeks ran dry
And water was scarce
Thirst was all I know
The pain was fierce

You blew like a breeze
You poured like rain
The beauty of your love
Ended all my pain

In the heat of desert
You are my oasis
In the moments of sorrow
You- my eternal bliss

The life is more beautiful
When we are together
The world may perish some day
But our love will last forever

You were there when I was basking in all my glory
When I had this halo of light around me
You held my hand when I got a butterfly tattooed on my back
You kissed me often when my lips were smooth and perfect
You caressed my body when it was still beautiful
You loved me from the bottom of your heart or at least you said so
You stood on your knees one summer afternoon
You gave me a diamond – a promise of ‘forever’
But soon the weather changed and it got cold outside as well as inside
My once bright soul turned dark and grey
My skin has scars painted in red
My lips are now chapped and dry
And my body it’s just a lump of flesh now
You loved me then but you don’t love me now
‘Cause a few forevers last only for a summer
I wish I could make him read this.

We women
Meera Mar 2018
We women
Have our brains inside our knees
Are crazy about shopping
Talk too much
Cry without any reason
Break everyone’s heart
Are weak, dumb
And yes mean and rude
Never accept our fault
Treat our husbands like slaves
Don’t get sarcasm
Get offended too easily
Are dotty about wealth
And are gold diggers by nature
Is there anything left?
In your long list of misogynist ****
Do tell me
So we can finish it one go
I mean what’s the point in repeating
The same lame jokes everyday
Just tired of those lame jokes

Girls like me don’t FALL in love
Instead we walk,  gracefully into it
Wearing red lipstick, black dress
And high heels

In one moment you’ll be the center of our universe
We’ll show all our love to thee
And in the very next ,you won’t mean anything to us
Cause we believe, detachment is the key

We’ll break your heart,
Leaving you with the pain
And you’ll struggle through the pieces
Till you are not so sane

We’ll tear open your wounds
And play with your scars
We’ll shine upon you
The lights of a million stars

Like siren we rise
Establishing our reign
You’ll weep and sigh
Your grieves in vain

But you know what is
W  O R S E
Once you have tasted our lips
You can’t kiss anyone else

And after this disaster you’ll wonder
Will spring come again?
No baby no
You’re not going to sustain

We can treat you like ****
And you’ll let us do that
We can push you out of the door
But you’ll always come back

The thing about girls like me is
You can never get over us
Don’t ask me why is that
You just simply can’t
Never fall in love with a girl like me. i repeat 'NEVER'

Fake it 'til you make it
Meera May 2018
Do they think I am ugly?
Do they feel I am dumb?
Am I hopeless? Am I stupid?
Am I worthless? Am I ****?

Do they even like me?
Or are they just being nice
Questions like these
Went daily through my mind

I acted like I ain’t afraid of anything
Like I am just being myself
Though inside I felt miserable
Like a cobweb on a shelf

On this very face of mine
I have put masks for years
Hiding all my insecurities
Hiding all my fears

I pretended to be
Someone I am not
A girl who looks pretty
A girl they think is hot

I kept putting on these masks
Till they became a part of me
As slowly and gradually
They grew to reality

But lately I realized
I was losing my soul
Living in a fake world
Growing up a hole

I didn’t have any idea
Who I actually was
When I came to terms with that
The masks began to fall

And as the masks fell one by one
There was a different girl underneath
A girl who could face her demons
And believe in herself

This was a journey with many hills
And sometimes it was ok to be in a valley
A mask may help to’ fake it ‘til you make it’
Until you start living your own poetry

Weak Glue
Meera Mar 2018
Your parents screaming on the top of their voices
Hurling insults, complaints and abuses
Their relationship on the verge of breaking
Cause now they're tired of faking
You little girl, as delicate as feather
Acting like glue, trying to hold them together
Weak glue
   Poor you......
Children soak up everything they see, feel, and hear. When parents argue excessively and for too long, it can leave children feeling insecure and fearful.

Balloon
Meera Mar 2018
I wish to be colorful and bright
Everyone would be pleased at my sight

I  desire to be touched by delicate hands
Little kids would be my friends

For once, I wish to be tied by a string
Giving me a sense of belonging

And when they'd let me free
I would sing a Carol of glee

Losing the control of my mind
I'd drift freely with the wind

High above the world I'd fly
And float between the layers of sky

When drained of all my energy
As tired as  I'll ever be

I'd lay flat on the ground
There I'd have a sleep profound

And when the stress would be too much
I'd have the luxury to burst

To fly too high and to be shattered too soon
In nutshell I wish to be  a balloon
Ever since I was a kid, I always wanted to be a balloon. So here I am penning my dream

know how obsessed we women're about looking prim and proper before leaving the house, sitting for hours in front of the mirror applying those silly beauty products in order to hide our flaws. We truly believe that it can fix all our insecurities. Even I have to wipe make up from my mom's face whenever she overdoes it and trust me I just love doing that though it annoys her a bit. Little does she know how beautiful she looks even without her foundation or mascara
Thankfully I never got into that stuff
