S Nov 2015
You're so greedy
They said
Pick a side
They said
You're such a ****
They said
Their words like knives
My blood spilling freely like insults from their mouths
I can't choose
I'll never choose
To choose would be to lose half of myself
All I want is to love freely
How can you hate my for that?
How can you cut me with your words and expect me to heal?
Nothing is wrong with me
Nothing is wrong with me except the deep cuts your words leave on my heart
I can't stop the bleeding;
The only way to stop it is to choose a side, but that would leave an even deeper scar
But
those knives were not aimed for me
No
they were aimed for the word above my head
What I call myself
My own label
Bisexual
I'm just the person below the word
My body taking the hits
Bruised and bleeding tears of frustration and sadness
The knives will not stop
Make them stop
Before my blood runs drier than the sand in the hourglass that is the only one that knows how much longer I can take the pain
Make them stop,
before it's too late

That cruel twist of fate

Love will pick you up
And fly you higher than you've ever flown before
And then drop you
Maybe it will catch you

The Middle Child
S Nov 2015
Autumn is the middle child, of Mother Moon and Father Sun
She is less cold and harsh than her sister Winter
Less feisty and forward than her sister Summer
She is less gentle and kind as her sister Spring
And while she is not physically the only middle child
She shares that title with her fraternal twin Spring
She is the middle of all her family,
Occasionally gentle like Mommy and Spring,
Sometimes feisty like Daddy and Summer,
She can even be harsh, on her bad days, like the eldest child, Winter
Do you see now, why Autumn is different?
Special?
In the middle?
She even goes by Fall, a nickname that Aunt Earth gave her
All those years ago
Before Auntie got sick
And Mommy got sad
Because Daddy made the flowers shun her
And Summer came home to visit later each year
And Winter stayed too long
Because her husband Frost hit her
And Spring came to tend the garden and left
And now Autumn is all but invisible
Please note that there is an edited version of this poem which is posted as a rewrite.

If I Was a Monster
S Nov 2015
If I was a monster,
I'd be a hideous, roaring beast
who would take on the world
for the life of a seed

If I was a monster
I'd have swirling black eyes
that would be windows to my soul
but you'd never get close enough to see

If I was a monster
I'd have a heart of diamond
Buried in veins of coal
Hidden within the matted fur
and broken wings
My dreams of tomorrow
smashed in pieces
on the floor of my cave

To validate their beauty and their worth

Taking Risks
S Nov 2015
Taking risks,
What a dangerous game

You could lose it all,
Or take home everything

One false move,
To lose your life savings

Or to unlock a brighter light inside the world
And to live with complete freedom and without fear

Taking risks,
Is it worth it?

Is it better to try and fail,
And lose it all

Or not to try at all,
And stay on the path where you started?

Emotion
S Nov 2015
There is a child
Her name is Love
She has long blonde hair and rosy cheeks
But behind that fair facade,
She has a vicious streak

She likes to play with Confusion,
Jumping ropes in the park.

Confusion has curly brown hair
And means well
She loves the other children,
although she often causes them harm

Confusion is akin to Serenity,
But Confusion came first

Serenity has big blue eyes
And a shiny bald head.

She follows around Anger,
Whose clothes are always ripped,
And his hood is always up.

But he has a crush on Sadness,
Whose short black hair is tucked under a cap,
Holding all her problems inside.

And contrary to popular belief,
Happiness is the most lonesome,
Her beauty hidden beneath her favorite hoodie,
Watching as the others play.

Today is the Day
S Nov 2015
Today I'm feeling inspired
Ready to write what I've been too scared to say
To let my keyboard take it away
My fingers dance over the letters
Fighting to find how to say what has to be said
Fighting to find a way to speak what has never been spoken
To break down the walls that hold me back
The chains that hold me down
To open the door to the cage that has kept me captive
For so long
Today is the day I start over
And leave my pain behind
Today is the day when I finally show my true colors
Hello, my name is Sophie
And I'm done hiding

That I can't help but smile
When you say my name

I'm sorry
If you can hear my heart pounding
When you're near

I'm sorry*
If I'm a bit of a mess
You do that to me
With your wavy hair
and perfect eyes

And I wish I wasn't shy
So I could ask you to be mine
And see what you would say
But it will have to wait for another day

Another day
Then maybe I'll have the courage to say
What I can only write
Until another day

There Once Was
S Nov 2015
There once was a woman
Who had three daughters
The eldest, Rain, was often moody, but always caring
The middle child, Sun, was cynical and hot-headed
The youngest, Wind, was free spirited, but often clumsy and careless

There once was a woman
Whose three daughters ran away
They ran
Until they could run no more

Then they lay on the forest floor
And melted into the dirt
Never to be seen as little girls again

There once was a man
Who loved a woman
Who loved three girls
Who melted into the dirt

There once was a couple
Who cried when it Rained
Who screamed when it was Windy
and who sobbed when it was Sunny

There once was a couple
Who simply gave up
And melted into the dirt

S Oct 2016
Shattered pieces of hope
Scattered on the floor

Ominous ticking in my head
Crazy forevermore

Embodied spirits of dread
Soar high in the night

Sitting in on dinner parties
Giving folks quite a fright

The stars laugh triumphantly
Casting hopefuls down

Watching as they struggle
Hoping that they drown

Till they turn to apprehensive fear
Waiting for the sun to strike

And send them back to the stars
To continue their silent plight

The Stars
S Dec 2015
Have you ever wondered where the stars go
On the nights when they don't shine?

Well if there is one thing I know,
It's where those stars go.

They glide down to Earth from the sky
Although I haven't the foggiest idea why

And they sing and dance and play
Just like us during the day

Those two white figures dancing a tango
While another one views some Van Gogh

And more still sing a song
'Till all the songs have been sung

And the morning sun arises from her bed
And calls the stars back home once more.
Sometimes sadness is the best inspiration.

Cry for Help
S Dec 2015
I'm not trying to **** myself
My cuts are merely a cry for help**

You could read them like a journal if you were to look hard enough
This one from the time I cried until I could't cry anymore
That one from the time when sleep was oh so far away
And that one there, just a scar
That was my first cut, the one that began it all

Sometimes the only way to bury the emotional pain
Is by covering it with the physical pain

Like the bite of a dull kitchen knife against your stomach
Or the burn of a sharp one

The little beads of blood welling to the surface
Like the tears of my emotions
In physical form
Some people ask what it feels like to cut yourself

S Nov 2015
I have a crush on a girl
One who is as sweet as the sugar in that ****** kids breakfast cereal
One who is as beautiful as the sunrise over the ocean
Who can sing like the birds in the trees
And yet
Those moments, from time to time
When she looks sad
Like the flowers as the sun sets behind the trees

I have a crush on a girl
Who is sad and I don't know why
And yet
She always covers it up with a smile

Her smile
The very one that makes my heart flutter
And my palms sweat

That beautiful girl
Who refuses to believe she is
Beautiful
Perfect
And sings like the birds in the trees

This is for You
S Nov 2015
This is for the people out there
Who are saddened by the thought of tomorrow
Who are comforted by the cold touch of that blade
You are beautiful
Even when you're not
Because you're you
And that will always be enough

This is for the people out there, still locked in your closets
I see you,
And I know how cold it gets, locked away from the sun
Behind the closed closet door
Come out into the light, its warmer out here

This is for the people who are shaken by nerves every day
Without fail
Stay strong, don't let those nerves get you down
They are a part of you,
accept them, and move on
But don't forget how far you've come

And this is for the heartbroken people out there
Always be yourself
And someday, your perfect partner will come along
Determined to make you blush
Until then, you will have to be enough for yourself

As for everyone else out there,
You are the light in someones life

You just might not know it yet.

May Death Set Me Free
S Nov 2015
Can you see me?
Can you really?
Because last time I checked I was invisible
Lost in a crowd that seemed indivisible
Where you couldn't tell one person from the next
Regardless of what demon was wringing their necks
But now you say you can see me?
And now you say you will love me unconditionally?
Because last time I checked you were blind to my pain
Blind to the times I stood out in the rain
Rather than go inside and face my fears
And now you want to wipe my tears?
I don't need you anymore
I can stand on my own two feet
I can walk inside where I will meet
My demons face to face
And then they will finally be erased
And I will be free

Anxiety is an angry beast
It has crooked teeth and yellow eyes
And if it wasn’t clamping it’s jaws on your neck
It might even be funny
It’s always there
A shadow in the daylight
And a ghost in the night
It peeks around doorways and hangs in pictures
It lives in your bed
Your house
And there is nowhere that is safe
Deep breathing is an aspirin for a stab wound
Fighting back is a bandaid for a bullet hole
So instead we sit
And we never stir
And we hope that maybe our brains will quiet
Or our breathing will stop
Because anything is better
Than that crooked beast that taunts me
