Wailing Ghost
Cecil Miller Sep 2015
A wailing ghost has found you.
Foolishy, you hoped to be free.
But that is how it plays with you.
A cat and mouse game, you see.

However did you get as far
In the frosty, wintry night
Without knowing your ache would return?
How could you think you'd be alright?

The haint is on your back,
And chillishly shrilling in your ear.
Maybe you did not bury your deeds deep enough.
Perhaps that is why you fear.

The awesome hatred is poured into your cup.
A spectral accusation never is one in vain
If it closely resembles the truth.
The guilty perish, for crimes that are never named.
The beginning of fall, and the forward momentum toward my favorite holiday, have begun.

A Day of Life In the Wild
Cecil Miller Jan 2016
The pollywog swims
To the edge of the basin;
Soon it shall have legs.

A bass leaps from pond,
But is not amphibian,
It lives in water.

The worm feeds on green
Foliage sprouting  from soil,
Unaware of flight.

A drop of dew clings
On the underside of a
Leaf splayed like a hand.

A burgundy beam
Of sun burns the soldier ants;
The queen does not grieve.

Feet disturb some twigs;
The crackling sound rapports
All throughout the woods.

Silence gives a heed
To the bird which gathers
Brown straw for its nest.

The lilting song of
A loon rises through the murk;
A sliver of moon glows.
This is a haiku. I hope you enjoy it. Take from it what you will.

Nina Novia
Cecil Miller Apr 2015
Mi' Padre' was stabbed in a bar fight.
The cantina is the deepest of wells.
Mi' Madre' put mi' ropa in la mochila.
La pandillas tiene mi' hermano - He fell.

Madre' sold her finest of silver
To buy maquillaje to color my face.
She said, "Better that you should have her"
To the man who had come from The United States.

Yo era una nina novia.
El era un hombre mayor.
I wanted to run away fast, go back home,
But nothing was there for me anymore.

I was but only sixteen.
I had never been touched before.
There I was in such a new land,
Our cothes crumpled on the floor.

The whole time I kept my eyes closed.
I longed for mi' familia and home.
He held me and slumbered when it was over.
My tears were hot and I felt so alone.
.
Yo era una nina novia.
El era un hombre mayor.
I wanted to run away fast, go back home,
But nothing was there for me anymore.

I was told to learn to speak English.
To abandon the language I knew.
I did not speak of my heritage,
It was better that I was kept from view.

I learned to cook like an American wife,
And soon I could speak like the rest.
It was difficult, but I learned how to fit in.
I even changed the way that I dressed.

Yo era una nina novia.
El era un hombre mayor.
I wanted to run away fast, go back home,
But nothing was there for me anymore.

These days, I spend keeping shop,
When the children are still at the school.
They are the heart of my life.
They are named Sally and Raul.

The nights are the hardest to get through.
I still dream of my other life,
Before I was given to my husband.
But I love him now, I am his wife.

But,
I remember when -

Yo era una nina novia.
El era un hombre mayor.
I wanted to run away fast, go back home,
But nothing was there for me anymore.
One of my most creative endeavors, Nina Novia is my first attempt at folk-tale poetry that is patially in Spanish. It took some effort because I am not exceptionally bi-lingual. You might read in the comments where I was inspired to explain her having to deny her heritage to fit into her new American life. At that time she is vulnurable, but it is a testimate to her strength that she endures. But in her regailment her Spanish becomes deminished, except in her recounting her past. That part was writen and added april 29th, when I read the comments and realized there was a gap in her story. I hope it translates well, and is well recieved. I hope it makes more sense. Now, I think it should be a ballad. I wrote and posted the original on April 27, 2015.

Ode to a vow
Cecil Miller Oct 2018
In times of poor and plenty,
I shall love sans dolenti
That smile across your face
That sends me out in space.
Connubial bliss will be
Like moonglow on the sea,
When you are by my side,
In amourous hearts abide.

Take comfort,
We are favored
By heaven
And by nature.

Love has come to you, and
Love has come to me.
I see your pulchritude.
It shines from inside of you.

In times of poor and plenty,
I shall love sans dolenti
That smile across your face
That sends me out in space.
Connubial bliss will be
Like moonglow on the sea,
When you are by my side,
In amourous hearts abide.

Your fragrant
Flowing hair
Like wheat
Upon the air...

You are a gift to me,
A cosmic mystery,
Enigmatic.
I take thee.

In times of poor and plenty,
I shall love sans dolenti
That smile across your face
That sends me out in space.
Connubial bliss will be
Like moonglow out at sea,
When you are by my side,
In amourous hearts abide.

Our sigual links unyeilding bond.
You are the only one
I'd ever give my love.
You're the one that makes me happy,
Sappy like a heavy bow.

I shouldn't be without you.
I'll never have a doubt about you;
And now I know your mine.
I'm yours completely, love is fine.

In times of poor and plenty,
I shall love sans dolenti
That smile across your face
That sends me out in space.
Connubial bliss will be
Like moonglow on the sea,
When you are by my side,
In amourous hearts abide
I just felt like scribing a wedding song. I do my most prolific writing in early morning. This was completeled in one drafting.

Don't Even Think
Cecil Miller Dec 2015
My heart was true,
So true, but now it's blue.
You left
Without a saying word.
It beats
All I ever heard.
You treated
Me like a clown.
Now, your gone.
So, you're gone for good.
Don't even think
About comin' back around.
No.
No. No, oh!
Don't even think
About comin' back around.

My fate was cruel,
So cruel, cause I loved you.
You lied,
When you said you'd stay.
I cried,
When you went away.
Must-a took me
For a fool.
But, you're wrong.
Yes, you're gone for good.
Don't even think
About comin' back around.
No.
No. No-oh!
Don't even think
About comin' back around.

If your thinking bout coming my way,
You'd better think again
Cause once love has strayed,
There's no way to rebuilt the past
From your wreck of lies.
I see the truth, at last.

Oh, you took me
For some kind of fool,
But, you're wrong.
Yes, you're gone for good.
Don't even think
About comin' back around.
No.
No, No-oh!
Don't even think
About comin' back around.
I wrote this one two nights ago. Mid tempo, mostly in open A and D chords.

Illumination
Cecil Miller Jan 2016
Into the goblet of life did I poor myself, convivially jaunting; jumping for the juniper as if jolted into life for the first time by the cosmic current that sublimely filtered reality from the dream that had become my truth.

I, beheld to the newly found perceptions, careening through the trees, trampling upon crisp leaves, on my way to scenic experiences, was ever looking forward to the hopeful thrill and living in anticipation of the next climactic excitement.

I would be unable to be complemented by the moment, in which I did not truly live.

The adventure became a tragedy,
As is always with the changing of innocence into untoward regret.

Tears were novelties that were bartered for kindness, traded for the rhyme, but never the shine.

Illumination is priceless.
Good luck figuring this one out. Even I don't quite understand it all. It is like that, kind of abstract, when the flood gates are open and out spill the words.

A Time When You Were Mine
Cecil Miller Mar 2015
I've been a fool.
I've been a fool, it's true.
Now I live without you,
Without you in my life,
Not holding you each night.
I can't go on,
I don't want to go on without you.

If it gets lonely in the dark of night,
Think about the light,
I used to bring,
And then we'd sing.
There was a time when you were mine.

If in autom you're sad when leaves are falling,
And there is no voice calling
Out your name,
Just refrain
To a time when you were mine.

Everytime the phone rings
And there's a silence on the line,
Or if you search for something lost,
It's me you'll find
At the end of the mystery.

Though I'm an old man and I am tired,
I'll never tire of loving you.

So let the summer turn to fall,
Let the winter **** it all,
It's born again in spring,
When all the hurtful things we've said, we've shed,
No, they won't mean a thing.

If you're alone and you can't stop crying.
Cry,
Cry for me, too.
I'll weep for you.
There was a time when you were mine.
The opening stanza was the start of a poem I'd intended to write. Around the same time, in '97, I was writing another poem that had a similar cadence and theme (the obsession that can come with a hard break-up and not being able to let go) I decided the two poems would work well together. The two stanzas that act as back to back bridges actually add a sense of balance to the architecture of the finished piece. I call it architecture because the process of arranging this one, for me, was a lot like erecting a structure from a variety of componants. I know this one is dated. (the phone still had a line) I promise some new material is coming.

Darkness Awakens
Cecil Miller Feb 2016
Look at me with wide open eyes.
Know that I am not as I appear.
I never did mind the darkness,
Even though it frightens me so.

Sometimes, I fool even myself
Into thinking that I search for answers.

The truth is something more
Than I ever will display.

SATOR
AREPO
TENET
OPERA
ROTAS

And I awaken.

I speak for him,
I speak though him.

It does not matter the reason.

Never, never will I leave.

There was a crystal chalice
From which I used to drink.
There was a set of pricipals
On which I used to think.

And once the door is opened
The words begin to flow.
I am his brother, partner, lover.

I am the summate of his fears.

I am the solvant of his tears.

Sometimes all you have is yourself.

Sometimes all he has is me.

I make the decisions,
And take the actions
That are too difficult for him.

There are times I haved saved his life,
But I should never be mistaken for what I am not.

My venom is toxic.
The following previously untitled bit is just a little homage to my dark half...hope you like it.

To Let You Go
Cecil Miller Apr 2015
Oh, how you ***** me!
How you betrayed me!
You took away our romance!
Berated me,
Degenerated me
At every turn of the dance!

Now, when you lied,
How I did cry.
How your mis-deeds turned me out.
I tried to forgive,
Tried to forget.
I tried to figure all this out.

Time and again
You hurt me so.
Everytime you strike with a low blow.
Shame comes to me
In memories.
I try my best to let you go.

You live to lie.
I wonder why
There is no truth inside your heart.
Your acridine,
Oscillate, shine.
You went right through me like a dart.

Where were you
When I needed someone?
You wrecked the soul  of who I used to be.
You rocked the loom.
And weaved love's tomb.
You have been the death of me.

This is the time.
I know I'll find
The strength I need to tell you so.
By this night's end,
Freedom begins.
I know I've got to let you go.
I have been playing with this one for about eight years. I was tweaking the last stanza of this poem that was meant to be a song just now. I wrote it from the perspective of a best friend who was going through a break up. What I love about creating poetry is that it can be always changing. I am sure over the years this one will continue to evolve.

I'm Not The Curious Kind
Cecil Miller Feb 2016
I'm not the curious kind

I met you at the pub,
You were with your cuz
And I asked you, "What It Wuz?"

Was it on my face,
The invitation to come to my place?

You won't have to guess for long,
Once I get you home.
One sultry look in my eyes,
You'll know what's going on.

Give your love to me.
Open up and let me see.
I want to lay you down.
And kiss you all around.

It don't mean a thang,
If it ain't got that stank.
Do-***, Do-***- Do-wa-a!

How I hate - I hate it so,
Whenever you say "no."
Baby, let it go.
Why else do you think
I bought you all those drinks.
This buzz don't come for free.

I don't need to see
What's in this for me.
I've been here before
So, I already know what I want.
I'm not the curious kind.

Once I have you all the time.
You'll know that true love was on the line.
I'm not looking to play games.
I don't need your name.

I don't need to see
What's in this for me.
I've been here before
So, I already know what I want.
I'm not the curious kind.

I see I've met my match,
And your plan is bound to hatch
Because I know I'm a catch.

Was it on your tongue,
Right there on the very tip, when I stole your breath away from it?

Now, now it won't take too long
To find the beat of my song.
When I get you into the rhythm,
We'll have it going on.

Lips and hips are true,
My hands all over you.
Shoo- ***, Shoo-***, Shoo-wa-a!

For a moment I thought so,
But you didn't tell me "No".
Baby, let it go.
My investment's coming through.
You're gonna get yours, too.
This high don't come for free.

Once I have you all the time.
You'll know that true love was on the line.
I'm not looking to play games.
I don't need your name.

I don't need to see
What's in this for me.
I've been here before
So, I already know what I want.
I'm not the curious kind.

I'm glad we didn't change our minds.

We saw the whole thing through.
And glad it was with you.

I'm not the curious kind.
I've been around the block some times.
Experimenting's not what's on my mind.
I've long since left my doubts behind.
No-one here has need for shame.
No-one has to point out any blame.
No-one needs to be tamed.
We struck a match and lit a flame.

Once I have you all the time.
You'll know that true love was on the line.
I'm not looking to play games.
I don't need your name.

I don't need to see
What's in this for me.
I've been here before
So, I already know what I want.
I'm not the curious kind.

Kiss in the Middle
Cecil Miller May 2015
Did you ever wonder,
Like I always wondered,
What kind of love
Story you would have?

It was hard to imagine,
I've come from so far away...
We are surrounded by war,
But we make each other laugh.

We laugh,
We laugh,
We laugh,
We laugh...

She is the color
Of the sun when it sets,
A hazy bronze hue-
She is my breath.

She's from the desert
Far beyond the sea-
She could be from Heaven.
She is an Angel to me.

To me,
To me,
To me,
To me...

I'm just a man.
I came here to find my way.
Our families won't approve.
We'll love each other anyway

(We love each other any- anyway.)

Our customs are different.
As different as night from day.
Traverse the dymensions.
I'll meet you halfway.

We shoot across the sky,
And answer the riddle.
How could we make love?
We kiss in the middle.

Kiss in the middle,
Kiss in the middle,
Kiss in the middle,
Kiss in the middle.
A few days ago, a friend e-mailed me a musical recording that he and his brother had worked up. He gave me a working title of Kiss in the middle and an idea of a long-distance relationship. I was invited to write a treatment for the lyrics. I had the idea of star-crossed lovers over a cultural divide. The narrator is perhaps American or British...he joins the military to venture out in the world and find himself. He ends up in the sands of the war-torn middle east. That is where he meets his love. Moreover, he is a mere man at heart but. Feels she is inbued with a celestial purity. The first two verses he is telling the reader about it. The last verse, he is encouraging very directly to his love that they meet on a cultural median where they Kiss in the Middle. This is a first draft, and as it is further collaborated will probably change drastically. I hope you like it. Copyrights to lyrics by Cecil Miller. 5/15/2015

Curtain
Cecil Miller Jul 2022
All the seconds that we've wasted
Looking at each other's faces,
Then one day we said, "Hello."
Never close the curtain on this show.

We made friends, then we made love.
We made war, you were above.
You said you were letting go.
You closed the curtain on this show.

The glistening in your corner eye
Becomes a tear that you cry.
I ask you why you have to go.
You close the curtain on this show.

Wall-to-wall the city beats
With hearts and footfalls on the streets.
I'm alone now, they all know.
You've closed the curtain on this show.

Like veins in arms, the avenues
Are winding anywhere, but you.
I wander with no place to go.
You've closed the curtain on this show.

Maybe someday I'll be seen,
Floating stillness in the stream.
Tangled in a bed of stone,
Having closed the curtain on this show.
This isn't about me
Cecil Miller Mar 2015
There's a nebulla in the sky
I named to homage our neighbor.
There's a constellation in your eye.
And I never knew I could love without hesitation,
Or temptation from another to ever leave your side.

It's been a beautiful day,
A walk through the skyless skies,
Like a dream of you slowly floating by.
Now I believe,
I'm sure that we can make it,
By and by.
It's been a beautiful day,
And now it's gonna be a wonderful night.

The Suductress is tamed.
The Prince has settled her down.
The Queen has matched
Her gown to the Royal Crown.
The crimes have been pardoned,
So families can re-unite
(Moon and Sky)
It's been a beautiful day,
And now it's gonna be a wonderful night.

It's been a beautiful day,
A walk through the skyless skies,
Like a dream of you slowly floating by.
Now I believe.
I'm sure that we can make it,
By and By.
It's been a beautiful day,
And now it's gonna be a wonderful night.

I'm so glad
That you're going to let me hold you.
(One more time)
In my arms
I'll craddle you as we sigh.
Now I believe.
I'm sure that we can make it, by and by.
It's been a beautiful day,
And now it's gonna be a wonderful night.
In early 1998, I was part of a team that produced original stage-plays.
I wrote a script called Light Year Crusaders. The above song was the main theme. The Villianess, named The Suductress (complete with ******* gear) kidnapped  a young prince for randsome. The royals dispatched an imprisoned space smuggler to rescue the prince and retreat a divice that could "unwind Saturn". (reverse time and untie the Ribbons of Time that make up the fabric of the universe.)
The Hero enlists the aid of his conservative brother and his family (who's daughter had fallen in love with an alien from another dimension much to the father's disaproval) to aid in the covert rescue. The mission took them through the Skyless Skies (intergalactic space).
At the end, Love - which comes in many forms - saves the day.
A new sense of Universal community is realized, and everybody sings a reprise of the theme song of the play.

In mid-1998,  The Wandering Minstrels Studios went out of business before Light Year Crusaders (a space melo-drama) ever was produced. boo-hoo-hoo tears. :(

Believe My Luck
Cecil Miller May 2015
I could not believe my luck
To finally find a friend.
We could have taken on the world together,
I never wanted it to end.

Something had to come along and change it.
I know where we went wrong.
We both wanted to be in the same band,
But we both wrote differents songs.

We broke apart like clashing comets
Falling from out of the sky.
I guess inside I always knew
That I could never be your guy.

It wasn't that I lacked self-confidence.
It was not even that I felt shame.
We understood what the other meant.
But, the thing we wanted was the same.

I would have bet my heart on you.
But I could never live a lie.
For a while there, life was a party,
How the time flew by!

You drifted back into my world,
I was drifting far from mind.
About the time I was fragmenting,
Saturn was about to unwind.

Like a stone, I catapulted into the world.
I ricocheted liked a silver ball.
I was making up for lost time.
I would rise, then I would fall.

The colors melded hotly
As I did crash and burn.
The cynicism came with ease,
With every lesson I did learn.

I settled into my routine.
I cooled as I slowed down.
I looked you up to say hello,
And I miss having you around.

I cannot believe my luck.
That you still are my friend.
Sing your songs and tell me stories,
Like you did way back when.
May 5th, 2015 - I wrote this poem after I connected with a friend from the old days. We called each other by the old names.
Cecil Miller Apr 2015
Hey now! Hold on, baby.
What'cha tryin'na do?
I've been around this big ol' block
A time or two.
You think you're cleaver,
But you really don't know -
I'm the only super-******'
Star of this show.
I'm here to tell you,
Get yourself in line,
Or maybe drink of
Someone else's bottle of wine.
I've heard all the talking
I'mma hear today.
You can either help me,
Or move out of my way.

Stop your complaining,
And you better not nag.
I'm not impressed by tongues
That only wag.
If your mind is weak,
You better take note.
Or you can go find
Another joint to ****.
You've been too jazzy,
And I've had enough.
It ain't even like
You've ever had it rough.
I am the man,
And I will have my say.
You can either help me,
Or move out of my way.

Your teary eyes
Aren't gonna prove a thing.
When it's time to rock-n-roll
You better know how to swing.
When I go get the bacon,
Better pick up a broom;
Or you can make the money
And I'll clean the room.
I'll go it with ya,
But not carry your load.
If that ain't good enough,
You can hit the road.
Remember, I'm the man
And I will have my way.
You can either help me,
Or move out of my way.

You can leave this party
By the door you came.
Because you signed a pre-nup
And gave up your claim.
Don't get to thinking
You can tame my style.
You better get to knowing
I can be mean and vile
If you wanna fix it,
We can give it a go;
But I don't wanna hear
About your every woe.
I've got ideas,
The world is mine today.
You can either help me,
Or move out of my way.

I've got some fuel
And I know my path.
I got no time for drama,
Or your daily wrath.
This might be the last thing
That I say and you hear.
If you want to stick with me
Then get your *** in gear.
Have I been clear,
So that you understand.
Your ******* gets old
And it's hard to stand.
We can clean the slate
And start it new today.
You can either help me
Or move out of my way.
4/25/2015 just wrote these lyrics. I probably have some tweaking to do.
I wanted to write a song that was straight forward, *****-out, rock-n-roll. This one is very raw.

At Times
Cecil Miller Jun 2015
At times, your flotsom and jetsom gets to me.
Mostly, I think you're beautiful.

At times, I look at you and want to ask,
"Why are you in a frantic, frothing frenzy?"

At times, I exclaim, "Really? Come on! I mean, come on! How bad is it, really?"...

At times, you storm away.

At times, I wonder if you are worth the aggrivation.

At times, I don't think I deserve you.
I wrote this, just now, on this url, from my small, but smart phone the first thing this morning. March 14, 2015.

Sugar Cane
Cecil Miller Sep 2017
Ain't no woman for me, no, no,
'Cept the Lady Annabelle.
I'm gonna tell the story,
'Bout how she put me through hell.

I said to my Lady,
"You can have whatever you claim."
She took her box to the Northern fields;
She filled her box with the sugar cane.

I said, "Why'd ja have to break my heart?
Why'd ja have to break my heart?"

Aint't no kind of feeling
Like when your heart is in some pain.
And it don't help at all to know
She filled her box with the sugar cane.

I said, "Why'd ja have to break my heart?
Why'd ja have to break my heart?"

Muddy Mississippi Bluez
Cecil Miller Mar 2015
You gotta know what for, babe, you got nothin' to lose,
Just like ev'rybody else in the whole **** world.
You gotta break on through
To the other side of your sad attitude,
But you can't shake off
Them muddy Mississippi Bluez.

Well, Hell! She's beatin' on a drum
And she's gettin pretty loose.
Seems like ev'rybody else in the whole **** world
Is comin' down on her
And standin' on some plattitude.
She's just tryin' to groove
To the muddy Mississippi Bluez.

Up and down the water,
You watch the riverboats cruise,
As you drink against a tree beneath a sky of blue.
Sleep wants to take you,
But Honey, you refuse.
You gotta pay your dues
To the muddy Mississippi Blues.

Life along the delta can be simple and fine,
When the stills fill the jugs and the full moon shines.
You're gonna make it through
When you find a little gratitude.
So give your praise
To the muddy Mississippi Bluez

"Well, Hell! Take me away,
Muddy Mississippi.
I know I can count on you.
To stain my soul
Like muddy Mississippi goo.
I owe it all
To the muddy Mississippi Bluez!"
This is a reposting.I took it down as a last resort to remove a comment that was basically a filthy joke. I do go in for that sort of humor. I wrote it during the millinium year because I was living in the Florida Everglades, and was feeling homesick for the Mississippi Delta region where I roamed for years. Creative liscense is taken to help create a certain freedom of conventionality and echo some of the dialacts I've heard when I lived there. If you have ever been a "river rat" you'll understand.

Your Guy
Cecil Miller Aug 2015
Pardon me, I know this is a pick-up line
As standard as my Chevy four-wheel drive,
I was at the end of the bar when you passed by.
I don't come on often, I'm usually a little shy
I couldn't help but notice your blue eyes,
They are as blue as the western sky.
Your hair is like threads of silk, how it shines!
Your face is friendly. Can I be your guy?

May I sit in this chair by your side?
I'd like to have the barkeep bring you another white wine,
And sit and talk a while, can you spend the time?
I'd really like to win you over. I think you're looking fine.
My impression is your're just as sweet as a mother's lullaby.
The soft lights are bringing out the longing in your eyes.
I didn't mean to intrude in your thoughts tonight.
I only came to ask you out. Can I be your guy?

No, Madam, I didn't see your ring. Gee, it's nice.
I wouldn't change a word I've said, please, pay no mind.
I'm glad we got to share this time, it seems right.
I'd like to stay and finish my drink, while I pine.
I'll thank-you, then leave with a friendly good-bye.
As soon as I've sobered, I'll go to my truck. Home, I'll drive.
I'm a little confused... Where is your man tonight?
Oh, I'm sorry I guess I'm just envious of your guy.
My latest is a country song. I got a couple of the lines last night as I was going to sleep. Completed august 21st, 2015. All rights reserved by me, the writer.

Visitation
Cecil Miller Aug 2015
Her memory, the love of she,
In slumber,
That time when sadness sooths itself,
Pays to me a call.
And I, a lone warlock in the dark,
Feel the mattress demit as she sits,
And know her gentle touch on my face,
As I did when I was young.
I  am trembled by her resonance,
(*******, I am trying to sleep!)
Then, I wake to understand what has transpired.
Then, am blessed to have felt her love once more.
Then, I bid her go to God.
But, I do thank her for her visit.
This is a new poem. I submitted it as soon as it was complete. I spent about half an hour working with it. It is very personal. 3:49pm. Aug 19, 2015.

Automatic Writing
Cecil Miller Aug 2018
I'm so unique nobody could be me.
The words I say reflect what I see.
I know you; I know what you're thinking.
I see the light, but I don't know why it's shining.

Sometimes, I know, I get too upset
When wrestling with the puzzles that are in my head.
My heart could love, if not for the dread.
It's like a blade that's doing me a chining.

But I can't blame it on the rock-and roll,
It's the only thing that keeps me whole,
Lord knows, it's the only, only thing that's holy.
No you can't say I'm like the other guys,
I was living large before it was fashion wise.
You know, the angels treaded far behind me lightly.

The gossamer was endless and nestling to all it neared.
The tingling within the earth let usher forth a worthless beauty to every person of it's time; but which was to be unknowingly priceless to the lives yet to come.

And the prophet cried before the day he realized he was to die, the hour before he was to find...

Relief.

The automatic writing happens when you give it up,
And you never even know the meaning til it comes to pass.

But divination is a gift, even as the gossamer blinds your eyes.

And the fiber dissolves into the nullity.

When then spasm has become as the tapered wind, there is left but nothing.
The first stanza has been written for decades and been used in several pieces I have written. The rest was written tonight, as I was staring into the mirror this morning to look a little deeper. Much is still a mystery. Who knows?

Die To Love Again
Cecil Miller Nov 2015
There's a sorrow for every season,
When you're a target for love's treason.
The bittersweet and twist that's raw,
There is no love without the fall.
Love is gory; tears at the heart,
Never pauses at the start.
You may vow to skip the pain.
One day, you'd die to love again.

In the springtime, love is young.
In the summer, burns in the sun.
In the autumn, hearts may ache.
In the winter, hearts will break.
Once a hopeful, spry young man
Has been haggard by love's hand,
He may vow to skip the pain.
One day, he'd die to love again.
I came up with the phrase "a sorrow for every season" yesterday. I wrote the rest of it just now. It took about half an hour.  I hope you like it. Nov. 4, 2015
Cecil Miller Jul 2015
To my schitzophrenic mind,
You are all the same.
You are him and he is her,
She has more than one name.

Do not try to ever lie,
Or abet in the foolish game
In order to persuade me,
Or explain why you cannot flame.

I can see the forest for the trees.
The winds shakes their mighty lofts.
When the storm is raging,
Dieing things fall off.

What good is any word without a meaning?
Only those with tear-stained egos disagree.
Nobody wants to hear about your sacrifices.
You aren't the only ones who ever bleed.
Guess what happens at 4 in the morning around my house. Please do not buy, sell or use my poetry for fundraising on this or any other site.
Cecil Miller Aug 2015
I will not call you my baby,
Until I can be your only baby.
You maneuver around a subject
With the litheness of a danseur.
Though I would like to love you,
If you would let me love you,
Loneliness has never been what drives me.
It is love to which I answer.
I can see the youthfulness,
And much more, for my sleuthfulness.
Are you seeking any other than me,
Who is eager to applaud as to centre stage you bound?
For just a while more, I wait for first frame.
It could be so grand to see how you move your frame.
I have wondered if your dance would be as spry
As the clever way you manage to avoid.
I wrote this in about ten minutes. I finished it just now, at 11:30pm.
I hope that this bit of poetry is as exciting as an enthralling ballet.

Oracle
Cecil Miller Jun 2015
Where you look, your eyes will find me.
I am in the shade of every tree.
I am inside every tableau.
You only need to ask to learn,
You already have the answer to your quary.
Turn your attention inward
To turn to the Kingdom of Heaven.
You are My Logia.

Whosoever finds meaning in these sayings shall not experience death.

Let he who seeks keep seeking,
Seeking until he finds.
He will then be troubled,
Then astonished,
Then he will rule the world.

The old man will ask a child of seven days the place of life.
The two shall know each other,
As each shall become the other,
And become one and the same.
There is nothing hidden that will not be found.

It is what issues forth from your mouth which will defile you.
Do not ask about your end without knowing your beginning.

When two are the same as one.
When the inside is like the outside.
When what is above is as below.
When male and female are one.
When an eye is an eye,
When a hand is a hand,
When a foot is a foot,
You will know Paradise.

When you choose, as I choose,
One from a thousand,
And two from ten thousand,
And they stand as a single one,
You will enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
This work was inspired by The Gospel of St. Thomas.

The Angel
Cecil Miller Jun 2015
I dreamt an Angel came to me
With a grin and blood on his face.
Still, a tear was in his eye.
His head hung in disgrace.

He did not speak a word to me
Yet, I knew his mind.
I felt he was a part of me,
As I am, cruel; but kind.

He took me to a stair well
Leading up and down,
Splayed in e'er' direction,
As I gazed around.

Then, were lambs and goats
Battling in a field of fire,
And swine possessed of a madness;
To which I could not aspire.

The Angel pointed, with boney claw,
At the desert and the sea.
I could not choose between the two
Which one should I be.

His wisper was a fount
Of living, crystal clear
Water moving over me,
Flowing in my ear.

His fiery cloak embraced me.
It burned upon my skin.
He brought me to ground, turned me around.
The Mystery has no end.
This is the first poem I wrote that had ever been published. I was 26. I have always been really proud of it. It was lost in the bottom of my entries so I am reposting.

To Live -
What more can there be to ask?
I am alive,
And continue to thrive.
Into every life comes tregedy.
Everyone needs to overcome.
Finding forgiveness fulfills the need.
Acceptance is the solution.
When I surrender
Is when I win.
And then there is this:
I Love You.
Just a reminder: We do not have to let our heartaches define us. We can get the **** over them. Real Talk there.

Powder On Pale
Cecil Miller Nov 2015
Across the bed, she has lain,
Not breathing not in vain.
My mood is as stoic as her skin's hue.

It started early with how the day
Cut ***** windows with sunlit rays,
Was as southern as a slice of honeydew.

She was leaning by the gate,
Like Christina Applegate,
As willing as a pauper without a clue.

I never asked her name,
To me, they were all the same.
(Somehow, I think this one might stick with me.)

There is an absence in her eyes
I have loved since her demise.
She will stay this way in my memory.

I pour the powder on her pale,
****** belly, then toot, inhale.
Through my nose, I feed my mind.

Sticky dryness of my mouth;
It's time to leave the south,
Go somewhere no one can find.

I can still hear the sound
Of the drive by shooting down
On the street from around the block.

The room is a vestibule
To the starlit harlot's tomb.
When I'm done, I leave her on the cot.

As I move through the door,
And leave behind the *****.
I muse, briefly, how I stay in the clear.

To all the good Catholic boys,
May you bang up lots of toys.
Have a ****** belly Christmas this year.
I was hanging out with friends a few seasons ago and one dude remarked that a girl, our friend, baring her mid-drift, had a ****** belly. We, being of a twisted sort, parleyed that into joking about doing coke off of a dead ******'s belly in New Orleans on Christmas morning. Please, take this as satire. Don't give me no heavy lip. I am out of meds, anyway.

Untitled Abstract
Cecil Miller Apr 2016
Yes, I know that
The sun is beating down,
Pounding your back with heat
As you're working.
You're working hard
Selling memories not to be forgotten.
You think you're grown now.
You are a man
It seems to you...
And it seems to you
Only fitting
That you do what you please.
Well, you think you're free now
Like you've never been free before.
You're just another boy on the bullivard.
But can you take it,
Ooh, the harshness of this lifestyle?
As you wait for them to come along
Will you come undone?
Your time,
Your time is running,
Running out.
What are you feeling now?
I split no hairs
About the little things.
I say only what is relevant.
I see
You need a warning.
You ride like the wind
Through the pages of your life.
They change like the faces in the night.
I know your lonely.
How could you not be?

Have You Ever Met an Idol
Cecil Miller Feb 2018
I'm flipping through the vinyl at the vintage record store even though I haven't a penny in my pocket to spend.

The owner doesn't ever seem to mind that I am all the time hanging out there browsing.

All the music of my life is there.

Sometimes it makes me sad;
Sometimes it makes me happy.
It always makes me feel something,
But it never fails to quiver my eyes.

I knew the band was touring.
I heard they were coming soon,
That classic rock salvation
Is the only thing that sooths.

I could have fell
Right to the floor,
When rock and roll
Came through the door.

Have you ever seen an idol?
I mean, shining like a god
In glistening southern heat?
I pray to God our eyes don't meet.

He had a flowing tunic,
And a top hat on his fluffy mane.
A small entourage was with him.
His eyes were above his darkened shades.

I gasped and said a swear word that I could not keep inside.
Over stacked of dingy cardboard boxes he saw me,
I tried to beg apology but could not speak;
My legs were petrified.

In my chest my heart was pounding,
Sounding like the beating of a drum that timed each step that he took, as he walked around the musical maze to the spot where I was frozen.

Have you ever met an idol?
Someone who is more than just a man?
Someone who has the message of a poet,
And seems to understand like no-one can?

I forced myself to look away,
Looking down to the floor.
I hate that in this moment
I am so vulnerable,
And I love that my nerves are open raw.

I cannot believe all I can do is panic
And I know he must see that I am pathetic.
My soul is naked in his sight.

I know there is no possible way
I can recover from my shame.
I tremble when he puts his hand upon my shoulder
And tell me he understands, that it's alright,
Tells me him in the eye.

I am so close I can see the pores between the stubble on his face.

He asks me how I'm doing, now.
I tell him that my brother should be the one he is meeting.
He is older, and better and more steady in his grip. My brother loved him first because my mother used to play his songs. That's how I came to love him, too.
My brother is more a man than I.

He tells me that my brother isn't here.
That this is just the way it's meant to be,
This charity, serendipity.

He tells me he is honored I'm a fan
Of his music, and he's glad I like the band.

He ask me if I'm coming to the show.
I change my gaze to see the band behind him.
I tell him that I tried, I really tried.
I wanted to so bad. I had no money.
I've been out here on the streets for quite a while.
And, God, I cannot feel this moment.
Everything seems like it's going.
I cannot help but give my life to him.

Take a breath, he calmy tells me.
He holds his hand out to the side.
He signals with his beautiful *******.
What is happening?

And I ask him

"Have you ever met an idol
Someone you wish maybe you could be?
Or were you always beautiful,
Never just a runaway like me?"

He put the tickets in my hand and
Folds his over mine
And takes my hand as if we were praying.
Nobody is a nobody,
His eyes said to mine.
I can see he knows I understand.

He told me that he looked forward to seeing me in the front row.
I wrote this on my phone just now while soaking in a hot bath. Please forgive any mistakes. I'll fix them in time. I know it changes tense. There really is no other way to express the dream state of this poetic writing without taking some grammatic liberties.

Dear John,
Cecil Miller Aug 2015
I hear you calling.
Your beckoning to me.
You don't want me to leave.
Your want me to stay.

You tell me how you'll miss me,
Then question my loyalty,
Ask what you could say
To convence me to remain.

I can't turn away
From my destiny.
I'm following the light
That comes to me in dreams
In the hours of the night.

It's rare to see beyond
The scope of one's existence.
I want to live
A life that is enriched
With wide-splayed experience.

There are oceans I want to see,
And parades that honor life.
I want to beat on drums
And stroll along the boulevard.

You grab on to my arm,
As you say you won't let me go.
I sat up last night
And thought of how you wield control.

Now see the blood in my eyes
With the lack of your faith.
Baby, I know it,
Your love is a wraith.

Blood in my eyes,
Slack in my faith,
Baby, I honor,
I commemorate
Those who follow
Their dreams evermore.
Live the dream,
That's what it's for.

The day has come to reconcile
Yourself to what is to come.
The power that you had
Over my life now is gone.

I won't wish you sadness,
And I know I won't reflect.
I put the past behind me,
We never could connect.

I hope your dreams come true.
And your life won't make you blue.
Accept that I am leaving,
And there is nothing to say or do.

Watch, if you want, I'll glisten.
While I'm dancing down the lane.
I'll be a speck of light.
There will be no refrain.
Another piece I started in the mid 1990's, but put the final touches on just recently. Originally titled "(I Can't Turn Away From) My Destiny",  it was writen from an emotional place. The cadence is irregular. Sometimes it rhymes sometimes it does not. It is what it is.

Where were you when country music performers did not make political statements?
Did you stand or kneel when they sang, "God Bless the U.S.A."?
If the south would have won, would we really have had it made?
If you don't plan to take a stand, what are all hidden stockpiled rapidfire rifles for?
No wonder you won't talk about current events.
You have been silenced in so many debates.
Seeing how the republican officials are doing, I wouldn't want to talk about it either if I were you.
We hate to say we told you so,
But we did.

I will never pay Hellopoetry $5 to have a poem be on the front page next to poems that are trending. I can't think of a more horrid thing then selling premium placement on the sight. There is no longer credibility, nor integrity on Hellopoetry.com. I will be looking for a new forum for my work. I am disappointed Hellopoetry.com would do this. You don't have to have talent nor anything interesting to say. I am done.
They changed the name of the front page to "what's hot". What is hot about having to buy your way in? Absolutely nothing. No real substance. I have never wanted to not be a writer before, until I noticed all this light shedding horseshit. A sun icon! Hey! Hellopoetry.com, sunlight is free, you ******* morons. Take away the sun and put up a dollar sign.

My Lullaby
Cecil Miller Mar 2015
If you believe in happy endings,
I believe in love.
I believe the Universe is sending
Singnals from above.
All my emotions I wear on my sleeve.
From the start I knew that I would grieve.
Promises were made to break.
How much more can one heart take
From you.
Oh, you
Think nothing more will come of Tears
Than water-shedding through the years with you.
I am the one who can see
The depth beyond your narrow need.
Denials that you always claim
Never live up to their fame.
We lie in bed at night and cry.
Silent tears, my lullaby.
I wonder ever when the lies will end,
As we continue to pretend,
We cycle through the lies again,
and again,
and again.
I wrote this in 2005. Starting out, it was inspired by British progressive rock and was going to be song lyrics, however it got to a place I liked. Too brief to be a song, I just let it be the poetry it had become.

Of All These Things
Cecil Miller Apr 2015
Of all the ways you've laid waist
to the Fortressess of Love I ***** in the realm of my emotions...

Of all the brittle limbs you send back crumbling on which once grew life I sent to you like pawns before me in this dry territory where the dust disturbs the view of the silvry illuminations in the sky...

Of all these things I've said, and the things I've not said...

At least, they let me know that you know I'm alive.
I could not sleep, nor think.
So I wrote a poem.

Not Your Valentine
Cecil Miller Feb 2016
Talk about the way I loved you
Once upon a time!
I will always be kind to you,
But keep your valentine.

What good would come of an empty notion?
I won't sop in your love potion.

Keep your hearts of candy handy,
You might need a snack.
Wrap it up in cellophane,
Send your entreaty back.

We had our time, you had your shot.
Let's just be friends, or maybe not.

I can't think of reason one
That I should take the chance
On trusting that you'd ever change,
No, I am not entranced.

Learn the meaning of good-bye.
Walk away on down the line.

Don't look back, don't dwell upon it.
Give it no second thought.
To be clear,  I'm not mad with you,
But feelings can't be bought.

At the close, there's this to find -
I don't want to be your valentine.
I wrote the componants to this poem in early January. About halfway through, I realized the rhyming pattern of the verses had changed from alternating to four lines of couplets I worked on the arrangement to break the couplets into beidges between the larger verses, and reworked the content for continuity. I was going to keep sitting on it till the 14th of february, but I think it's ready to send out. This one really was just a fun write. It is not super serious.
Later on, I might play around with it and turn it into a song.

Five Senses
Cecil Miller Jan 2016
You can feel the pain of life
cutting deep inside of you,
When you are out there swimming
On the edge of who you are.

You can see a mystic glow
That captures your attention,
Just before you find yourself
Abandoned in the dark.

You can taste the bitterness
Of loosing to the the universe,
Meditating on the sad things
That have made you who you are.

You can hear the hollow breath
That comes from deep within
Your chest as it it heaving,
When you don't know where you are.

You can smell the pheromones
And want to enter paradise
Of the intoxicating lifeforce;
Libidinous and stark.
This one kind of addresses what it can be like to have self-esteem issues, or uncertainty, and the experience of being ruled by it. However, this is not a poem about morality. I wrote it in the wee hours of the day I posted it.

Abyss
Cecil Miller Mar 2016
When I look into the abyss,
Is it just as confused as I?
What does the dark depth ponder,
When it gazes into me?
Am I impossible?
Can it not even
Fathom all my pieces,
Or how they fit?
How cool the wind will blow -
But is the western sand
Still hot when the storm claws at my face
To scratch out my eyes?
Am I a seat to be despised,
Deposed like a future convict
Railing at the charges held over my head?
Why is it judging me
For not playing along with the game I had no part in creating?
I conject no scheme of ill intent.
Peace, I bid Thee well.
I go my way.
I think I will not include too many notes for this one. It is about feeling the object of scrutiny.

An Easter Story
Cecil Miller Apr 2015
The egg decends from the pillowy sky and sinks to the blue-green ocean to be rolled a-shore by fish. It is swaddled in seaweed and remnants of aquatic flowers. The doves come to hatch the egg. From out of the cracked shell comes She, The Queen of Heaven. The swaddles are now like garments. The rabbit becomes her sumbol, for She is the Great Mother who brings with her the season of fertility.
Hope you like it.

Must-a Been My Voodoo
Cecil Miller May 2020
I see you changed your tune
Fast as phazes of the moon

So true,
That you

Should-a seen it comin',
Should-a heard the hummin

Right through,
Bright blue...

Must-a been my voodoo
Cause I sure did do it to you.

Oh you,
You're through.

You're through.

Must-a been my voodoo
Cause I sure did do it to you.

Oh you,
You're through

I can cross the river
'Bout-a any time I feel.
Nothing's gonna be a break
A-slowing down my wheel.
I'm gonna take you out
Any time I want
And it won't cost a pretty dime
Because inside of you, I haunt.
I have a few brief pieces of verse to post this morning. I hope they get read.

Of Love and Tomorrow
Cecil Miller Aug 2023
I'm gonna try,
And I'm gonna fail.
Then I'm gonna try, try, try,
And I'll try again.

I'm gonna lose,
Time and again.
But, I'm gonna keep playing, baby,
Because someday I'll win.

The longer it takes,
The sweeter it will taste.
The prize is the flavor,
And it's love that I'll savor.

So, if you brush me aside,
Just know I'll be waiting,
My patience, enduring
And love, unabating.

My faith, my desire,
Knows no limitations.
You'll know me one day,
Meanwhile, no lamentations.

As rises the sun,
With certain precision,
And shine do the stars,
Through the vast expansion,

I'll be just like clockwork,
I won't let you down.
When you need someone be to be there,
Know I'll be around.

I sorta needed you, baby.
I kinda wanted you, dear.
I hoped you would call on me,
When you wanted someone near.
I guess it wasn't my time,
And maybe he's who you want.
It's sad that you gave in
To his virtueless vaunt.
These grapes are not sour.
They are sweet on the vine.
My love in undaunted.
Still, here I wait.
I wish that he could make you happy.
He doesn't have what it takes.
The moment you know that,
Then know I await.
From under the viaducts,
And the shadows beyond the stage,
Behind heavy curtains,
Let my love asage.

You know we should crash like the cymbal.
You know we should anger the Sea.
You know that the sky should rumble
In praise of our unity.

I'll keep thinking that I'm next to you,
Cause sometimes thinking is all a man can do.
I'll long for your embrace,
If you would only give me grace,
I would give my world to you.
Per my usual, as of late, these are song lyrics. As I was writing them just now, I felt inspired by The Phantom of the Opera.

Bedside Ballad
Cecil Miller Mar 2015
I met a man who cried at a bar.
He told me he mourned, and travelled from far.
So I bought a bottle and he drank with me,
As he regailed me his memory.

"I'm waiting for you, Dear, alone in the dark.
You're dieing, they've told me,
It rips me apart.
You bravely are holding your fear at the start,
As I cry alone in the dark.

I've come to your bedside because you've been ill,
Since the cold winter morning you first felt the chill.
I'm waiting for Jesus to make you alright.
I plead for you not to die.

I ache for the sight of your watery eyes.
I hear you breathing, it sounds like good-bye.
This is a moment I'll relive and cry.
My beautiful songbord has died.

Wait for me, wait for me
on the other side wait for me
wait for me, wait for me
wait for me, wait for me."
I wrote this one in 1997 on an accustic guitar.

Forever Changed the Songs
Cecil Miller Mar 2015
Stars are bowing to the moon,
It's crazy, yes, I know.
The world is on it's side, tonight
Basking in  the lunacy, oh no!
I'm swept away
In the Milky Way,
Caught up in the thought of loving you Even more
Than I did just yesterday.

Any Bob or Bill
Would watch water flow up hill.
Any stony heart would sing.
Every Dapper Dan
Would have you in his plan,
Suspension of the natural laws,
You bring.

Sometimes I'd sit alone
And sing songs of where's the girl for me.
Sometimes I prattled on endlessly
To friends about how I was so lonely.
You know, sometimes, I'd even cry.

Every Jack without a Jill
Knows the emptiness I'd feel.
Even Adam, without Eve,
Would have shared his tears with Steve.

Then you came along
And forever changed the songs.
You filled the hollow space inside.
Since you came I haven't cried.

Stars are bowing to the moon.
Crazy, yes I know.
My heart would bow
Beneath the weight of loneliness,
If you didn't love me so.

There has been no time for tears,
No room for sorrow like before.
I will never make you cry.
No other love will love you more than I .
This is writen in the style of an American Standard. I wrote a small portion of these lyrics in 1994, but most of it I came up with last night on my way to get a fountain drink from the circle-k. Really,  I think this song wrote itself.

Midnight Macabre
Cecil Miller Nov 2016
I've got a pet daemon,
Every once in a while, I let him out of his cage.
I find it most beneficial,
If every once in a while the wise one gets to play.

I've got a bad desire.
I want to see you when you're out of your skin.
My bad thoughts are inspired
By the ugly, dark world I live in.

No matter what you believe,
No matter what you think you've been told,
There's nothing you know about me.
I have never been the one to be a tortured soul.

A bead of crimson forming,
I see it and my heart starts to throb.
The story few people know,
Is the tale of my midnight macabre

It's like a tale from Lovecraft, brother,
But I was never surprised to gaze upon my face.
And I have always known it.
To others, there was barely a trace.

I revel in self-adulation.
Your pleasure brings me such pain.
I look in desperation upon you.
I want to see your tears fall like the rain.

I understand my desires.
I know why I exist .
I suffer from no allusions.
Your soul is meat, I am a carnivore.

I've got a pet daemon,
Every once in a while I, let him out of his cage.
I find it most beneficial,
If every once in a while that wise gets to play.
I found this old posting in my timeline today. I wrote it three years ago.
