Temperature rising
I feel I can breathe
Express my emotions
Be happy, at ease
Finally able to think clearly
Kalliope May 2018
Every time I get closer
to my goal
I feel myself slipping further
into a hole,
I just want to be a success
But my bad side won't give it a rest.
Kalliope Apr 2018
When you wouldn't hear my words
I tried to show you with my actions,
You just stopped looking at me.
Open your eyes please
Kalliope Aug 21
What if the bad thing didn't happen?
If we erased that day,
Forgot the feelings too
Would I be this sad right now?

What if the good thing didn't happen?
If we erased that night,
Forgot those feelings too
Would I be this sad right now?
I want the pain to go away
But without this hurt
Then how would I know
What we felt was real?
Kalliope Nov 5
Words are magic, and pretty, and gold
They make you feel good, and timeless, less old
But words are just words, though pretty on paper,
And when action doesn't follow, you feel worse later
And magic is hopeful, and helpful, and kind
And my heart hasn't been the same
Since the day magic died
Kalliope Apr 2018
I hope someone can heal you,
I'm done trying.
Kalliope Nov 4
A ghost or a shell
I never can tell
When I look in the mirror
And everything's weird
The smile I miss
Now a thin line so crisp
The glaze in my eyes
Since the glow died
This skin isn't mine
This body feels like a crime
I don't recognize what I see
I just want to feel like me
Holding onto the past
But wanting to be new
How long does this transition last
I'm ready to shed this shade of blue
Kalliope Oct 2018
It must be beautiful to not be jealous
To just feel happiness
And joy for others
Not that small pain
In your stomach
The little shocks
In your brain
The ache
In your heart
Help me please
Or I'll have to leave
My brain won't ease
I don't know what to believe
Kalliope Jul 28
And sometimes
When I place my earbuds in
I don't hit play right away
I hesitate
Because in the silence
If I close my eyes
I swear I hear your laughter
There's comfort in missing you
Kalliope Aug 29
Only good enough to be spoken to in the dark, I try not to think about it.
You consume all of my daylight hours,
Always present in my mind, how long will that last? If I'm only thought of when the stars come out, at least I'm thought of at all.
I'll play my music loud
But nothing drowns out the sound
Of missing you.
Kalliope Sep 13
And I'll look at the sky and search through the stars for validation of this feeling, and when I find the moon I'll think of you and suddenly my heart is reeling,
Do you look to cosmos and wonder where my mind goes when suddenly I am silent?
I'm just lost in your brown eyes hoping you realize that maybe you want this too.
But maybe you won't and I study stars all alone, finding signs that were never really there.
But I've read them constellation for constellation,
Searching for the love we share.
Some nights I find it and others I don't, but I blame that on the clouds, if we can't see it I promise you'll hear it,
My love for you is quite loud.
If you look at the moon
When I look at the moon
Can you feel me?
Kalliope Jan 2019
I love knowing what red feels like
How painful blue can be
The sting of green
Even the bitterness of jet black

I love myself on days of lilac
And question myself on nights of turquoise
But I can't visualize this empty
My heart hurts
Kalliope Aug 20
If I linger in our favorite spots,
One day you'll find me.
The longer I stay,
I realize you're not coming.
But what if you show up just as I round the corner?
Kalliope Aug 12
Everything's on the surface
Any deeper I start getting nervous
But your voice is so calming,
Your vulnerability enthralling

NO, I can't let you know me
I can't let you see
I can't let you find out
I'm 95% self doubt

My favorite color is green
At times I can be mean
I still watch Disney movies
-why does it feel like you're looking right through me?

And I'll preach I'm an open book
Lay it out, have a look
But the more you flip my pages
And start to see where the rage is-

The book will be snatched
The relationship crashed
You'll wonder why,
You might even cry

It's nothing to mourn
Don't be forlorn
Let's not get disheveled
Baby I'm just surface level
I can't believe you got past chapter two
Kalliope Aug 29
When I close my eyes tightly,
And I do this nightly,
I can hear your voice.
You speak to me softly,
And I think ungodly,
Now I can feel your presence.
A touch I'll never know,
You already let me go,
Doesn't mean I don't miss you.
I wish I didn't
Because you don't
Kalliope Jul 28
I want you to love me
In only my way
Your words sound so sweet
But just do as I say

I'm begging you to hold me
Keep up the persistence
I crave your comfort
But remain at a distance
Why am I like this?
Kalliope Apr 2018
Every time I get comfortable
Without you
You show up again.

Every time I get used to sleeping
By myself
You crawl into my bed.

Every time I fall in love
With you,
You leave me again.
The way we love hurts my heart.
Kalliope Apr 2018
I don't know what it feels like to be someone's first choice.
To be a priority.
To be special to someone.
I'm tired of aching for things
That I won't receive.
I'm tired of hurting for people
Who can't even remember
What color my eyes are.
My heart hurts.
Kalliope Dec 2020
Never will I learn
To stay away from fire
Aware that I will be burned
Yet still I crave its heat
Pass the alocane please
Kalliope Apr 2019
So I cut my hair
And changed my barbells
Switched out my hoop
And bought new clothes
Rearranged my room
Changed shampoos
But still I feel the same
Kalliope Jan 2019
You've got an idea of what life is
What your life should be
It's always been there
Since you were 8
Creating the future with barbies and sims

You turn 15
Your view changes
You're gonna be cool parents
With tattoos and leniency
Married to the guy you just met
You're so in love

You turn 18 now
You decide you don't want this life
Or any life
If it's not the life you pictured
It can't be a happy one
So you pull away from all the things that made you happy

You just turned 28
Surrounded by friends
A decent job
You're smiling, laughing
Reminiscing even
Only remembering the good
Life's weird y'all
Kalliope Aug 25
On the verge of yes,
More likely I'll say no
Constantly increasing the distance,
Never quite letting go
Always wearing a tight lipped smile,
Even when I'm feeling blue
No sense in letting them know,
There's nothing anyone can do
Feeling my feelings
Just not too much
Is the struggle
Kalliope Aug 22
My essence written down on paper
Ever so eloquently described,
Feelings I can always read later,
Written there forever this time.

A constant reminder of the love you once felt,
I can always go back and feel it,
Rereading them continues to make my heart melt,
But my soul knows this isn't realistic.

Ever so deeply that you were in love
But now you cannot feel the same,
I felt it, I'm READING it, I'll take all the blame!
Please,
             Come back to me again
And words are just words
No matter the pen
No matter the paper
No matter the writer
Words are just words
And I shouldn't have taken them to heart
Kalliope Jan 2021
And in times when she felt so
Alone
Unlovable
Overbearing
She had friends to fight along
Her side
Platonic love is valuable
Kalliope Aug 17
Too much talking
Too much noise
Too much kissing
Too much touching
Too much laughing
Too much crying
Too much fighting
Too much typing
Too much calling
Too much singing
You were never too much for me
This silence is though
Kalliope Apr 2018
Our good days were good but our bad days were **** near catastrophic.
Kalliope Aug 3
A rose without thorns
Would not be a rose
But I tried to trim mine
Before you left me to wilt
Watering myself down
Drowned us
Kalliope Apr 2018
****** coffee,
Sleepless nights,
Broken hearts,
And drunken fights.
Kalliope Aug 13
And still I look back
On the bad days
The ones with the fights
And the yelling
Cant forget the tears

And still I look back
On the good days
The ones with the love
And the affection
Can't forget the feeling

And still I look back
Before I met you
And my heart wasn't broken
Can't forget how you changed me

And still I look back
But do you?
Do you think a brace would force me to live in the present?
Kalliope Aug 25
Would the glass still have shattered had you not used it for wine?

Would the blanket still have caught fire had you not lit a cigarette?

Would your rent still be late had you not went to the casino?

Would I still have this pit in my stomach had you never said hello?
Some things are best left alone

Uno
Your promises mean nothing
Your words the same
Not quite lies
But never truthful
I don't know how to play this game
You've got me beat
For once I'll say it
I surrender
You win
A handful of cards I don't understand
You have one and know just when to play
Kalliope Apr 2019
I don't write very well
I can't find a flow
All over the pages
Every word goes

I don't write very well
The words don't make sense
Sometimes it feels better
To write in past tense

I don't write very well
But I need to express my emotions
And separate my thoughts
From this world's commotions
Kalliope Apr 2018
I never fully understood why you felt the need to beat me into submission when I'd already surrendered myself to you after you said you loved me.
Kalliope Aug 2
A green light
On a cold phone
Is the only way
I'll ever feel your presence
I'll never feel your arms wrapped around me
Kalliope Sep 2
I see brown eyes when I close mine
And messy dark hair,
Your hand in mine while the sun rises,
Tired from 3 am deep dives into eachothers minds,
Kept awake only by the desire of your presence,
And the electricity from your touch,
A touch not felt but so soft just the same,
But my eyes will open,
As the sun creeps over the trees,
Right when you're about to kiss me
And my brain will curse my heart for allowing such tantalizing visions
To creep in again
I'm more of a sunset girl
But you make me want to watch
The sun rise
Kalliope Apr 2018
I remember bottling up the beach for you since you've never been.
To you it's just sand.
It was more than just sand to me
Kalliope Aug 23
I'll write you a letter
That you'll never see,
I hope to feel better,
Go back to being me
It's written in invisible ink
With tears splattered on the pages
So I can never go back and think
I could have made all the right changes
Kalliope Sep 1
Yesterday's here again
Tomorrow never comes
I lay around and daydream about old love
Yesterday seduces me
Day after day
Soon I'll see the future
But probably not til the grave
Yesterday loves me
And has a grasp on me so tight
I'd give Tomorrow a chance
But it doesn't feel right
Yesterday is unfinished
A story untold
An ending I'll rewrite
Until I'm grey and old
But tomorrow could love me
It's trying it's best
It's waiting so patiently
For me to put Yesterday to rest.
But Yesterday was certain
Tomorrow is new
Yesterday was comfort
And Today?
Well it's blue
Kalliope Nov 2018
I want to forget what I said
But I want to remember how it feels
Kalliope Aug 22
Can you say my name one more time?
Softly, like the fog in the early morning
I just want to see if it still gives me goosebumps
Can you tell me my favorite color?
Quietly, like nighttime rain
I just want to remember how it felt to be remembered
I can only speak of you in whispers
Full volume, saying your name, gives me shivers
I hope that if you do think about me
You'll remember me in whispers
Kalliope Aug 25
You brought me flowers
But what does it mean?
I can ponder for hours
But I still want you to leave

And this wine is my favorite
I'm surprised you remembered,
I don't know what you expect of it
The man I once loved, you almost resembled

But you haven't been him for a long while
And I know you'll never be him again
Sure, these gestures make me smile
But to say I still love you would be pretend
My skin was black and blue
At the hands of you
A time I won't forget so soon
Kalliope May 2018
My mother is stronger everyday
Or maybe she's always been
This way
And I'm just now paying attention.

Maybe I'm just now seeing her daily struggles
Understanding her pain
Past and present.

Just now noticing how having a baby
At 16
Changes you forever
Never knowing who she could have been.

Always knowing I ruined chances at her dreams
Not that she would ever say that
But I did.

Every day passing seeing her more tired than yesterday
Working constantly since I can remember
Always being the supporter.

Just now wondering if she ever wonders who will support her
Or how we will function
Without her.

We won't.
It took me 20 years to appreciate my mother
And I'll never take her for granted again.
Our mom's were people before us, and still are someone, aside from a mother, and I don't think we realize that.
Kalliope Apr 2018
You chewed me up and spit me out
Like the piece of gum you chew
After a cigarette.

She doesn't even know
You started smoking
Again.
Kalliope Aug 21
You don't want me
But hush now don't say it
I don't know if the words ache
Because I know it's true
Or because you won't admit it
You don't want me
The phrase that beats me black and blue,
Pours out of my eyes like summer rain,
Aches my bones like a cold winter morning,
And I let it
You don't want me entirely, just nearby
Kalliope Apr 2018
You can't find love in the arms of someone who doesn't love you,

That didn't stop me from searching
 all night.
Kalliope Apr 2018
I tried to disappear a few times,
You always found me.
I don't know if that makes me
Love or hate you.
Kalliope Apr 2018
I am not your property.
You do not own me.
I choose to stay.

At least that's what I tell myself.
Kalliope Apr 2018
I always run to your bed when I'm lonely,
And fifteen minutes later I'm still lonely but at least I'm
satisfied.

— The End —
