Perfect time,
Perfect place.

Perfect rhyme,
Perfect pace.

Perfect chime,
Perfect phrase -

To describe perfect days.

Oblivious Burning
Amy Perry Jan 2014
Would the song bird's
Sweet melodic tweets
Be as well heard
And as jovially received
If he had no one to please?

Would the mighty ant
Work so ferverously
If he had not a constraint
To honor his Queen unquestioningly?

Would the gentle bee,
Giving life to all of Nature
Pollinate the fruit and the trees
Without the sweetness of the nectar?

Does the sun that gives me warmth,
Shining on my apple cheeks
Bring me bliss with its hearth,
And expect nothing and has no needs?

All of Nature and all of Life
Revolves around fulfillment and pleasure.
Yet the sun, this ball of light,
Has no reason to deliver.

I thank the birds, the bees, and the trees
For giving me this moment of splendor.
Yet they are already well fulfilled -
It is the sun who satisfies our wills
While it burns, oblivious, in its slumber.
I wrote this one at a Nature Preserve. I highly recommend writing in nature.

Manifest Your Destiny
Amy Perry Apr 2016
Nothing is coming, except for that which you manifest to appear.
The things that will help are the things that you fear.
The future is unwritten by all, even the Universe itself.
You can shape it with your vision, your thoughts, and your health.

Don't sell yourself short. We don't have long
To have a population to admit that we have done wrong.
While our egos could last, a hundred years more,
Our Earth can't sustain that. It's not what it's for.

She is a jewel with a moon,
Adorned with sapphire seas.
Nestled within nurturing womb,
Animals, mountains, and trees.

We may call ourselves her children, her pride.
But in truth, we've yet had our hour of birth.
We are connected like a child inside.
Bracing on her health, nestled by her hearth.
I bring the topic back to Nature, the Environment, and human folly too easily. Haha.

Home
Amy Perry Feb 2015
We enter this world alone.
We leave alone, only bones.
During our stay, we call it home.
The only home we've ever known.
And we will leave, with tired feet,
All we are that we perceive,
Whom we have loved, what we have known,
Back into the deck it shall go.
Everything during our mortal stay,
We must leave here, outside of the grave.
We assume what we consume
Can build us comfortable rooms,
But the most scenic of views,
Are priceless and cannot be used,
Only borrowed from Nature's Hearth.
A gift to preserve - the gift of Earth.
Keep her clean, do her well.
Be part of the solution, in her you shall dwell,
And if you bare children to also know Mother,
Give them, too, knowledge of how to love her.

That Precious Heart
Amy Perry Dec 2016
The heart can heal all.
That's why we fear
Opening it up
For a fickle other.
We can lose our
Best chance at
Self-defense.

I don't fear
The break,
So I send mine
On a plate.
Recipients are
Used to games.
I am, however,
Fiercely straight-forward,
With self-confidence
Coated in
Uncertainty. Vanity. Candy.
Recipients simply run from me.

This is why I focus on me,
Expired of all of my romances.
Thankful Universe gave us chances
To quickly flee the scene
Before the heart dances.
Lonesome creatures are courageous.

Yellow
Amy Perry Sep 2013
I saw a bird soar,
It was something more
Than any regular fellow;
Its feathers were the most yellow
Of anything I've ever seen.
How does it remain unseen
With such a yellow gleam?
Did I see it in a dream?
I stopped and stared in awe,
Not believing what I saw.
Yellow and black,
Not a beauty it lacked,
I won't forget it soon;
I haven't for many moons.

Winter's First Kiss
Amy Perry Dec 2013
Snow in her hair.
Cold, red lips.

A Heaven that surely exists.

She breaks her gaze.
Then breaks my heart.

Snow mingling with tears unsuccessfully fought.

A day far away,
We'll be together somewhere

With cherry blossoms fallen in her hair.

What I've Got
Amy Perry Dec 2013
Christmas time
Of '91
Hold on, Momma,
Here I come.
Live near Miami
You wish to name me
After the city,
Instead you choose Amy.
I have a brother
Daddy must remind
"Anthony, love her.
And try to be kind."
We played every day
With toys and thoughts
And things we shouldn't say.
It made childhood rock.
First year
Of middle school
No friends near
No boyfriend too.
Awkwardly,
I made new friends.
And soon after,
My first boyfriend.
All through high school,
I loved that boy.
Poor grades,
But loving joy.
Age 18,
He's a Marine.
That same year,
We're married.
Also that year,
Good and bad fusion.
I went to the Doctor:
Bipolar delusions.
I studied in school,
As husband fought.
It didn't quite help
My paranoid thoughts.
Finished a course,
I'm registered
To look at your tooth,
Still looking ahead.
Other things
I'd like to do.
Surfing the web,
Made a decision.
Tomorrow's the day
I'll be a vegan.
This very day
Still alive,
Still happy and healthy,
Still full of drive.
Living in Cali,
Isn't it nice?
Working with flowers,
Paid a price.
Every year
Goes by faster
I'm thankful for
Love and laughter
To fill the years
And fill my heart
This, my life,
Is what I've got.

You Have Me
Amy Perry Aug 2018
You have me
Like a clock that never stops,
Like the wind’s song,
Like the leaves dancing,
Like the stars’ sparkle
All night long,
You, you have me,
Like shivering in winter,
Keeping the goosebumps from dimpling,
Fine lines on skin, a dimple poking through.
Keep me longer,
Under your aching conditions,
I want to feel the fiery, icy burn,
You’re elemental, you’re nature,
You’re primal.
Oh you, you have me,
Like forests whispering, beckoning,
The unknown I can plunge into,
Deep waters,
Surrounding me, drowning me,
But this time, I can breathe.
You have me, you always have me,
Take me, have me again,
Like nature gives, and trees begin,
Deeper roots than we’ll ever see,
Like you and oh, what you do to me.

During this energetic renaissance,
People are the libraries
To unbridled, universal energy.
Concrete towers replace the ivory.

Hands on mahogany.
When the hourglass flips,
So do the pages.

Throughout the ages.

A Day at Mission Bay
Amy Perry Aug 2015
Did you know it would be so fast for me to love you?
Not fall in love, because there's no rush,
But the lush crushing that I trust,
That tells my gut,
As a complete Human,
You are more than enough?

Yes, when I see you
Bopping along to our favorite songs,
Biking Mission Bay,
Reveling the day,
No tracking of time to relay
Which direction we shall sway...

I know You are showing I,
Who You are Inside,
We are like reflections in our eyes -
I see I in You, and You in I,
It almost makes me feel most alive.
We're Spirituals, undeprived.

Everything you say is Poetry & Comedy,
You bring roaring laughs out of me,
And giggly coos, such feelings you ruse,
Admiration, Respect, Joy, Entertainment ensues.

You may think it rash,
Or rather uncouth
For me to say that
"I love you";
Take it from me,
Before I plant the seeds,
I challenged it too -
But simple love for all that is You -
I could not refute.

And so, I told myself first,
And now I tell you...

I love you.

Deterioration
Amy Perry Aug 2018
I watch him slowly deteriorate.
The first man I ever loved
Is being brought down,
Like a torrid helicopter
Caught in a hailstorm.
How much he must struggle
Against the current,
Only to be swept into unsightly circumstances,
Into a misfortunate gravity
He brings upon himself.
Homelessness, his vice,
And all I can do to help him
Is not worry so much
About all his suffering and whirlwind adventures
That make so little sense.
The delusions, the psychosis,
The wretched, wonderful mania,
It’s all so much for one person to contain,
And all I can do is watch
Him deteriorate
Before my eyes.
The first man I ever loved,
Fearful of none,
How terrible must be the parts of him
I cannot see
For his actions to be
So extreme.

If you don’t write it,
It won’t come.
That spark of madness
Devoid of need for the tongue.
If you don’t write it,
It won’t come.
That hidden power in your tone
To bring you visions into the world,
A form of alchemy that pales to none.
If you don’t write it,
It won’t come.
That jewel in your belly that glows brightly
That seeks to find you day and nightly.
If you don’t write it,

The visions you define,
The power you cannot hide.
If you write it,

Lost Poet's Heaven
Amy Perry Dec 2013
There is a place in our Universe
Visited by awestruck beings.
Where thoughts never turned to verse
Can be rejuvenated and seen.

The Universe has to stow
These lost thoughts for a reason.
So somewhere it springs to life
In a place called Lost Poet's Heaven.

When a poet envisions a scene
Or conjures up a line,
Lost Poet's Heaven, wouldn't you know it,
Embalms it into time.

The grieving maiden, too
Succumbed by tears to write,
Expresses her plight, unleashes her heart,
With nothing but her thoughts.

These thoughts she never penned
Can reappear again
When she has died, and her tears have dried,
And beholds Lost Poet's Heaven.

Lost Poet's Heaven, splendid and serene.
Filled with art to the tops
Of the pink clouds gathering.

Down comes the purple raindrops
Entrapped with your script.
You taste it on your thirsty tongue,
Lavishing long lost rhymes with every sip.

The sunshine casts rays of sublime poetry.
Later to be felt on the skin,
Absorbing the memory.

The Universe is kind, but doesn't want
The Hopeless Romantic to know it.
In Lost Poet's Heaven, the girl of his dreams
Is wooed by the clueless poet.

So when you lose your train of thought,
Smile, don't you fret.
In Lost Poet's Heaven, what you forget
Can be free to float about in mystery.
A bit whimsical and out there. Not sure how I feel about this one.

Turning Back the Clocks
Amy Perry Apr 2014
As the sun sets in the east,
Distant thoughts are underlying.
The clocks that hang on barren walls
Are turning back in time.

Our past has been rewritten.
No more anticipating the future world.
The day has now come for us
To see the past unfurl.

So we take out pen and paper
Writing down all that we see
Promising ourselves we'll never tell
Of what is soon to be

But every thing that we see
Can take a different route.
A leaf fallen from the wrong tree
Can change what comes about.

And if that leaf hits water
That just happens to float upstream,
Be careful of the where a bouts
Or somewhere in between.

So future, past, or present.
Take your pick. It's all the same.
We have no control
Over the way to play the game.

Question the Word
Amy Perry Dec 2015
You are worth more than words.
Here I am, on the verge of immersing myself in the voyage of words.
Like Mother's beloved birds,
On a trek to traverse towards Source.
The one constant on an ever-changing earth.
But,
Birds need no words
To convey their bliss
Towards the Source that burns,
In a Nature's kiss.
So,
I share my words,
I scrutinize it too,
Just as everything else
I feel or do.
But there is one thing,
I can't ignore,
It's the feeling of knowing,
Of loving, of joy,
Without ever needing
Language to deploy.

From colder realms.

Touch me tenderly,

Enhance my senses,

Tug at me desirably,

Together we embark on celestial
Missions of ordinary urgency.

Gathering up mountains,
Effervescently iridescent.
Cloaked to me like thunder
Clasped to a forlorn crescent.

Details of blue,
Flashes of indigo,
Orbit the thoughts
That think through their howls.

Reminding us the wrongs
That we’ve fought.
With patience and wisdom
Of spiders and owls.

And though I've called them crossed,

There is so much left to say.
So much joy, it is unstoppable.

And though this Century has blessed

We know we well surpass
What others will never caress.

I will be by your side all this while,
And through the years, I'll boldly go,
And with any thought of you, I smile.
You're with me more than you will know.

Thoughts on Art
Amy Perry Dec 2016
There are more things
That are not things
Than there are things
That are things.
Potential is a powerful,
Abundant resource.
To tap into the
Unknown, uncharted,
Unachieved, departed -
And introduce it to
What it means to Be -
Makes every artist
A midwife.
Without the great alchemists -
The artists, the dreamers,
Visionaries, poets, musicians -
Those who enter into
Akashic Records
Like a library -
We would only ever have
What has already came to be.
Like a technical computer reality.
Art brings us closer
To the cusp of Life.
Mother Earth is the greatest artist
I've ever known.
Being Human means
Being an artist.
Our Mother may soon
Scold us
For coloring all over the walls.
Making an artist takes time.
In the Universe,
There's plenty of that.

If You See My Father
Amy Perry Oct 2018
Scraggly,
In face and heart
Staggering
By the harbor,
A celebratory place
For families to flock
And sight-see the city
By the ships and the docks.
While the sea gulls fight
Over scrimpy scraps,
A lone man traverses,
Seized by mind traps.
Disoriented by the shadows
Of his past,
Taunting and tampering
With his freedom, at last,
He's broken his vow of silence
He promised he could pass.
Reality so far removed
From his ruminations.
Passerby's passively wonder
What attracted him to the concrete.
Overactive imagination
Is an answer I'd repeat.
Occasionally another may marvel,
Where is his family?
Waiting in vain,
In the background,
In the rain,
Devoid of way to entertain
The possibility to take the reigns
Away from his deceptive beast
That guides his woeful way,
Fighting for fistfuls of his feast -
A price he has to pay
For having an untreated illness.
Now I have no say
In pillows or cement.
He chose the latter.
Now all I can do is feel lament.
If you see my father,
You may see kindness in his eyes,
A mind that's rapidly firing,
Comforting words to himself he's ironing.
If you see my father -
You may see him time and again,
You may see him in the sea gull,
Harmlessly scavenging,
Heartily conversing,
Heartbreakingly existing -
If you see my father,
Let him exist
However he chooses.
I have no choice
But to do the same.

The Things I Have Done

I have loved,

I've had friends,

And done many things
That would have been missed.
I rolled sushi at home solo.
I learned to play "Nocturne" on a piano.
I spent weeks in Japan.
I've held my soulmate's hand.
I laughed 'til I cried.
I've been a beaming bride.
I rolled down hills.
I've had roller coaster thrills.
I swam in the sea
(I've done that by the time I was three).
I've been called beautiful
By many a soul.
I made a kite fly
(When I spent more time outside).
I danced many times.
I listened to rhythms and rhymes.
I ate every day up until now.
At the end of a play, I took a bow.
I ate vegan for over a year.
I've been the reason for a cheer.
I ran an obstacle course.
I saw the Statue of Liberty's torch.
I did yoga on a mountain.
I made a wish in a fountain.
I have memories.
I'm lucky.
I have lived.

The Bare Bones of Life
Amy Perry Apr 2018
The poets are too grim.
Too somber, too solemn.
Too serious for a world
That's bound to spit them out.
Programmed for defeat,
With their pessimistic vision
And their bouts with mental illness,
And the way they cut the gristle
From the bone of life.
Exposing the bare bones of it all.
They spend their whole lives sawing away,
Exposing the raw truth,
Digging down to the bone,
Living by the razor's edge,
And they take the little meat
They've collected
And they examine it -
For it is this kind of stuff
That entire empires are built upon,
Entire lives are shaped by.
It is this that the rest hungrily consume,
Piece by piece,
And they chuck away the bone.
Amy Perry Jul 2017
This heart I own
Has you to call home,
How I miss the
Hallowed halls
Of your soul.

Pressed against mine,
A fate so unkind,
That hearts could torment us to the bone.

The words you have spoken
Speak from the heart,
So I know then,
That this love that I feel
We both share.

And you did not ask,
Neither I,
Here at last,
That our paths would converge in this way.

I feel love come from you,
And I know mine does too,
We're here, not by chance,
Not at all.

Then if we must feel this
And are not now to kiss,
I will wait 'til I walk in your halls.

And you're both close

And you do nothing to stop it
But extend to me guidance

A panic attack is no laughing matter.
But to him it doesn't matter.
A trained professional,
But firstly, an *******.
I'm spiraling down,
I'm shaking and sick.
Then I went to your table,
I needed help quick.
With a relaxing voice,
In my mind's eye,
A peaceful place floats
Outside of these walls
And away from these white coats.
The meditation did away
With what the medication couldn't.
A man they call crazy
Made a girl feel calm.
A man they call Nurse
Made it spiral down.

The light tower

All the questions I could ask myself
About you and I and we and us
Does not hold a candle to the truth outshining us.
I do not need to hear your words, although you know I long to.
You've slipped away, a swaying phase, unsteady as the moon
In your island you're always hiding far out of reach for me.
I know the rules and I try to tip-toe around them.
Caught in a roulette wheel, shooting myself in the foot.
Swinging on the vines like Tarzan in the jungle, my Jane
Does not belong to me, enamored, enchained,
To this life I'm in, I shall indeed remain.
You are a glittering spotlight far away,
The light tower,
And I am only a glint in the corner of your eyelash,
I might cower,
The instant you turn to me, the minute you decide to fight for me.
The right hour
I am able to be yours, in this life, if ever, you have me,
So clever, wrapped in maroon silk cocoon, staved away,
For you, alone, always unable to love another, steal me from my lover like plunder, come find me on my shores
And take what has always been yours.

the pretty ones
Amy Perry Jul 2017
You water thoughts of despair,
Then wonder why the pretty ones
Never come to sit.
You chase away sweet changes,
And ask what are you to do.
You circle your poorly mended garden
With a net.
Gentle butterflies avoid.
You knock on the door of a hornet nest
And demand a fight,
To prove you've still got one in you.
Your garden, overgrown with weeds,
Provides you support to lay your head,
Comfort.
To cover up the memories,
You poured cement over your garden.
You spent a summer building
A basketball court,
Hoping that there would come a use for it,
Hoping for a visit.
You used to like basketball.
The weeds grow through the cement,
But you don't spend long in your yard anymore.
Walking away proves more satisfying.
Why won't the pretty ones ever come to sit?

Orange Ball of Fluff
Amy Perry Nov 2013
Your pale orange and white,
Your tiger stripes.
Green eyes that see,
Maybe not as well at nineteen,
Is more than enough
To make me remember
My orange ball of fluff
I had since '93 of December.

You'd lay on my chest.
That's how you preferred to rest.
And wake me up when I sleep
So you could eat.
In the night when we slept,
You'd leave mice on our step.
Your sister was sporadic
And maybe a bit neurotic.
Just like your Mom.
But you were always calm.

Your nose and feet were pink.
And it makes my heart sink
To think I could be so mean
To see it as a bad thing.
Later, of course, I felt sorry.
And your loving self forgave me.

I wasn't around when you passed.
But I'd prefer to remember our past.
And even in the gloomy shadow of death,
You'd purr when you laid on my mother's chest.
All the time in the world isn't enough
For me to get enough
Of my orange ball of fluff.

The Word was Written
Amy Perry Aug 2018
The Word was written,
But my word is spoken
In the silence of the sacred,
In the crash of the ocean.

The Word was written,
But still I fumble
With what to think
To remain humble.

The Word was written,
But how does Nature sing!
And how pretty the lilacs dance
And how awesome bubbles the spring.

The Word was written,
But my mind questions,
Scourges the earth for answers,
Philosopher is my essence.

The Word was written,
But how it nods
To the doubt in me
That there are such gods.

Assumptions
Amy Perry Oct 2013
If you've never been
Completely delusional
The world doesn't
Sadden you enough.

If you're too saddened
By the world
You might not be
Thankful enough.

If you're not
Thankful enough,
You might not have
Enough to be thankful for.

If you have enough
To be thankful for,
You should feel blessed.

If you don't feel blessed,
Take a moment to
See the good in the world.

If you don't see
The good in the world,
You just might go
Completely delusional.

Without a blue jay
Life is so very nay.
Without a brother like you
Dreams are bitter too.
Without the funniest guy I know,
I wouldn't laugh and glow.
Without my very best friend,
I would have never spent childhood
playing pretend.
Without a sibling to annoy me
to the bone,
Well, perhaps we'll leave that alone.

With a brother to call my own,
I'll never be alone.
Asked my brother what he wanted for his birthday and he said a poem. What an amazing brother :)

Amber
Amy Perry Jan 2021
All these poems
We write
To save our lives.

To preserve like amber,
Only more futile.

To hope and pray our children
May live on and bless
What’s left of mankind.

May move them with their liveness,
Their boldness, their plain old truth.
Even if all they ever did was express
How they really felt to be alive.

Hospital Poem 3
Amy Perry Jan 2014
Today is a day
A day to be remembered
Today is a play
I'm on opening act.
Without a say
On how it's run
Or what to say
I am just me
That's all I'll ever be.
These poems are from my inpatient mental hospital stays from July 2013. They were all churned out, one after the other, and there are much more, at least 8 pages of consecutive poems that I just won't post, haha.

Today's Lesson
Amy Perry Jul 2014
I spoke to a woman
Who had knocked on death's door,
Reminding me not to take
Walking for granted anymore.
I love a run in nature,
Zipping by the trees.
Scaring away the lizards;
No discomfort in my knees.
My very own mother herself
Has looked death in the eye;
What other lessons can I learn
Through life, the more I cry?

Play-Dough
Amy Perry Dec 2013
We molded
Play-dough
Many Summers ago.
You molded memories
I'll always keep.
You've molded children
To be beautiful,
Like you.

You mold beauty
With your hands.
Poem for my Nana.

Flowers, So Fearless
Amy Perry Dec 2016
Flowers, oh so fearless.
Featherly, inviting fountains.
Gifts for all who seek for it,
From the trees to the mountains.
Buzzing bees relax to sit,
Upon a vibrant throne.
Within a world built from grit,
Femininity is shown.
Flowers, oh so fearless.
Opened to receive reverence.
No judgment cast, it seems at last,
A place for kind deliverance.

Breathe You
Amy Perry Jun 2020
It’s not enough to love you,
I want to inhale you,
Breathe you,
Feel you between
The chambers of my heart,
Your sweet oxygen
Materializing
Into totalizing
Oblivion,
Mingling
Bodies and blood,
Spirit confounded,
Compounded
Into this unitary union.
Fruition found
My bones, bounded
To this body and earth,
Rhythmically versed,
Your gentle breathing,
Keep him with me
By becoming in tune
With spirit, body,
I swoon.
