Dream to chance
a change in time
a place for me
and you are mine
a dance a swirl
oh what a sight
I’ll hold you close
I’ll hold you tight

The warmth you seek is here inside, I’ll fill your hearts desires
The cold will never break our stride, my loves a burning fire
Tony Oquendo Aug 2014
I would give to you a gift, something from the heart
That you may remember me, should we be apart
I searched for something special, that lends itself to say
How much my heart burns for you, every moment of the day
I looked around to see, flowers of every kind
The colors were so beautiful, the scents so divine
I saw a lot of animals, kittens and puppies too
But none so soft and warm or nearly as lovely as you
I turned to the Oceans where dolphins and corals thrive
Reefs of endless beauty a mirror of the sky
But still the deepest oceans were shallow in compare
To the wisp of your voice and the flowing of your hair
So I took to the heavens and witnessed the birth of stars,
galaxies and nebulae, wonders from afar
And in this place of wonder, I finally came to see
to show my love and passion, what I give to you, is me.

All around me, darkness
I’m feeling so enclosed
emptiness and silence
feelings left exposed

A softly spoken whisper
my inner voice protests
There must be more to life
Then this lonely emptiness

We will always be together
I will never let you go
I guess that forever
was a long time ago...
Sometimes love is just a word you say

Sleep to awaken a new day
Dream to imagine it fullfilled

The world is crazy in a perfect balance of naive non sequitur and delusional grandeur and I the tail that left the dog for the hat that just got madder
... or lack thereof

Lo, how the night doth scream her silent fury, the brightness of the sky a prison for my soul, the infinite span of mind where time holds still, a reflection upon the stars

A scream that shatters the stars and the night is broken
The sun deftly approaches, the rain pours down
My soul is drenched, red as a crimson rose

The fire spreads, I am consumed
Where have you gone night?!!  Where are my stars!?!!

The dawn approaches, the scene is set
I draw the curtains close around me, this act is about to end

A whimsical pleasure shared by most, lying in restless slumber while the few battle the onslaught of demons and man alike, ever vigilant, tirelessly or tiredly on guard against the approaching dawn, that the knight might stand and win the battle against the approaching dawn

But she comes, radiant and warm in her beauty
Bringing new life, new hope, a new day

And I scream
Once upon a time I developed severe Insomnia.  Not knowing what was happening I tried to manage as day and night blurred and my world turned inside out.  Eventually, one day, for whatever reason, I wrote this.  Somehow, it helped.

This was my first attempt at writing, rather unintentional.

I love your button nose
And  your curly wavy hair
Your curious little fingers
And your wondrous blue eyed stare
Your giant little smile
And your laugh that melts my heart
Your wiggly little toes
And each and every part
To my daughter

I admit I'm not good at math no matter what I try
Me + You should equal 2 but now it seems we're 5
Without you I am less than one, I can't take you from I
At least there's one I do real good and that is multiply
Just something I wrote for my wife, a cute twist reflecting on our children
Tony Oquendo Aug 2014
I loved you for your broken soul, your frightened eyes and lonely tears
I offered you my shallow pride, my hidden scars and jealous fears

I fought with you and yelled at you all the while my eyes crying out Why can't you just hold me one more time?!!

But you are not here, only the scars you left behind.

My friends always ask me why I chase the wind

It's because every time I see you

I have to catch my breath

Despair a place of solace, disillusion a state of being,
when emptiness routes the soul forbidding any dreams.
You try to smile your placid smile with untold torment tearing you apart inside.  Was it seen?  Could they know?  Have they discovered the secret you try to hide?

Ignorance is bliss and in ignorance those around us live their lives blissfully, but pain is bitter sweet and consumes us frivolously.

And someday it will all end.

Amen

Darkness lurks within my soul
a living blight that no one knows
thick as oil I suffocate
forgetting love, there's only hate
Tony Oquendo Nov 2014
We are
   all at once
          the same
yet different

Bodies drifting through a timeless space
Navigating the maze of life

For now drifting apart, until we are made whole again

I first heard you giggle
and I couldn't hold my smile
Then I heard you laugh
and I sat down for a while
I watched as you spun and danced around the flowers
and treasured every minute and wished that they were hours

Your eyes speak only truth, your smile wide and free
You melt my heart again every time you look at me
your hugs are so sincere when you grab and hold me tight
and I remember what's important, and everything will be alright

Dancing in the moonlit sky,  a silent melody
The snow begins to fill the night, falling gracefully
They spin and dance under the stars carried by the wind
As winter's song fills their hearts they dance and laugh and sing

A softly spoken whisper
like tender falling snow
I paint for you this picture
that my heart you come to know
Tony Oquendo Jan 2018
The shadows paint my soul inside
and leave this trail for you to see
the darkest story where heroes die
and mortal souls beg to be free
I dance in dreams of joy and mourning
black tears without a care
and live out this dream set before me
midnight whispers in the air

It seems it is illegal to have a love like mine

The police went to question me and of our love I told
and broke the poor mans heart with a tale of love so bold
My lawyer came to give me council and asked me to be frank
I told him all about you dear and the poor guys heart just sank
And finally to the judge we went and I gave him my guilty plea
for it's true how much I love you and how much you love me
I spoke for what seemed days to cover all our past
From the first day we met, until I held you last
Finally the judge called to me and said that I must stop
for the sake of every broken heart from his back to the cop
Just fun and in love

I saw you hopping this morning, now you have me hopping too
I'm not quite sure, but I might be a kangaroo
I saw you sliding around, I even heard you hiss
Now I'm slithering with you, after all you did insist
Today I was a cow, a dog and a cat
We slithered swam and climbed all before your nap
I'll be all these animals and I'll be your best friend too
I'll be anything you need
Even a Kangaroo
Tony Oquendo Aug 2014
I'm sorry that I hurt you
I'm sorry that I stopped
I'm sorry that I chased you
I'm sorry I got caught
I'm sorry for my temper
I'm putting all this in the past
I'm sorry for today
But today will be the last

Dancing in the moonlight
a shade of heavens glow
Your lonely heart is seeking
for what you do not know

I wonder if you see me
And how would I portray
This love I have inside me
That grows for you each day

Your smile
Your eyes
Your heart

I've always loved you.
Tony Oquendo Aug 2014
Many are the things I would say to you
if I knew I would not have you tomorrow

I would hold your hand
and laugh and cry
and share in your joys and sorrows

And as the sun sets tonight
if I whisper just right
I hope my words you will hear

I will always love you
and in my heart
you will always be near
From a place of pain and loss to all who have suffered the same.  May you find peace in your hearts
Tony Oquendo Aug 2014
How bright the sun
How warm the sky
How strong the love of you and I
How cool the breeze
How sweet the scent
and how I love the time we spent
Rolling hills and splashing waves
Endless nights and year long days
Through summers touch and winters chill
I hold you close and time stands still
Tony Oquendo Nov 2015
Is it all really that simple
Is it just black and white
and if it is which is wrong and which is right
Did I mean nothing that you could just leave me alone
a dimming star in the still of the night
Did I shine once upon a time
Was I ever the bright reflection in your eyes
Was I ever more than fading thoughts and passing goodbyes
Tony Oquendo Aug 2014
I am god the devil born of strife
living this hell that we call life
a tormented servant a leader of man
an empty shell no salvation at hand
You reached out but I forgot to say hello
I died but you forgot to say goodbye
Tony Oquendo Jan 2018
I see the moonlight in your eyes radiant yet serene.
Your wisps of hair a midnight sky flowing like a dream.
Your skin aglow a thousand stars shimmering in the night.
I hold you in my eyes that I may never lose this sight.
Tony Oquendo Oct 2014
I've relived my memories so many times
and acted out the anger and blurred the lines
of who I am and who you were and who I never wanted to be
But I can't seem to escape the you in me

and I've been told to let go and I've been told to forgive
but who are you to judge if you never lived
the darkness that was my life
you are just my wife...

But I see it now and I think I understand
to forgive isn't for them it's to make me a better man
because I can't let go if I'm always angry inside
and it's just as well, the past should have died... a long time ago
Tony Oquendo Jun 2021
I think of you with sorrow
knowing true happiness is something you will never know
You threw away today in search of tomorrow
because you only learned how to hurt and never to let go
You had the world, you were the world and now you
Tony Oquendo Oct 2014
It was a winters morning with clear blue skies
I saw the sunrise in your eyes
I felt the clouds in your every breath
You were my all with nothing left
Tony Oquendo Aug 2014
A soul full of jealousy,
a heart full of pride,
I struggle to keep my demons inside

My mind is corrupted,
my anger unleashed
my path is unclear as I change my stride

Relentless anguish,
unbearable pain,
a place I know all to well,
Heaven help me, for I have fallen,
I'm stuck on the wrong side of hell
Tony Oquendo Jul 2021
In the wind she whispers secrets
in the rain she shares her sorrows
beneath our feat she gently moves
a silent promise of a new tomorrow
Tony Oquendo Aug 2014
When the burdens of the world have all come crashing down,
when there's no one left to hold no comfort to be found;
when daylight seems a blur and the only peace is dark,
I'll leave you to your metaphors and pierce my breaking heart
Tony Oquendo Jan 2018
I wait until it's quiet
and you think your all alone
Reading, writing, drawing
or just talking on the phone

I sneak around so silent
you've no idea I'm there
until I pounce before you
as you jump out of your chair

You're mad and start to chase me
You think I run away
But the game is just beginning
I chose YOU to come and play

I hide under the couch
your looking in the room
I go under the table
you'll probably give up soon

I crouch as I get closer
you wonder where I've been
then I pounce right there before you
and the chase is on again!
Tony Oquendo Aug 2014
Morning dew lends her kiss my skin so soft and sweet

the scent of heaven in the air, rich soil beneath my feet

rays of sunshine warm and bright as they come to say hello

while a gentle breeze blows on by leaving petals in the meadow
Tony Oquendo Oct 2014
Don't savor the pain yet reject the hand that tries to help you though I cannot possibly understand what you have been through.  But I see you, I see your pain.  I may not have lived your past but it didn't last and yet we can if you do not push me away so fast.  I just want to listen when you want to talk, hold you when you can't and tell you how the stars got their names.
Tony Oquendo Jun 2021
I welcome every day with a facade dancing in the sun while in the shadows little by little my soul dies.

Hi, how are you?  I'm fine.

What a lovely day.

No, please.  Allow me.  I write the most beautiful lies.
Tony Oquendo Aug 2014
Do you seek comfort from the rain
or dance before the coming storm
have restless slumber, hidden pain
or misery that would be no more,
fallen skies broken dreams
or hopes for something out of reach
shed a tear or brim with laughter
let your actions be your speech
Tony Oquendo Dec 2020

Sometimes I exhale hoping to see
my last breath as it escapes from me
smiling through the misery
laughing, crying, dancing, free...
Tony Oquendo Aug 2014
Walking in the rain
the clouds a sad shade of gray
I notice my reflection in a puddle
who I was, who I am and who I could have been

The rain washes away all sorrows.

I am left naked, reborn, looking for my sunny day.
Tony Oquendo Aug 2014
I took your hand and held your pain
close to my heart whispered your name
and shared your joy while all the while
consoling the sorrow behind your smile
A reflection on true friends who don't need to comment, criticize or judge.  Who will laugh while you laugh and all the while hold close your pain and never let you go.
Tony Oquendo Aug 2014
Heavy the weight that one must carry when things start to come apart,

Emotions unbound a soul in sorrow the burdens of a troubled heart;

I will be your friend and while your heart mends I will share in your joys and sorrow,

And wait for that day when you finally say, things will be better tomorrow.
Tony Oquendo Aug 2014
Soft as a mothers glow, this star so warm and bright
from a place too far away to hold, yet warms a summers night
as evening falls to sleep it goes this stoic friend of mine
upon a new day she unfolds, hello my sweet sunshine
Tony Oquendo Aug 2014
Hands held gingerly, each a pace apart
I lead in the dance, you bring rhythm to my heart
I take my bold steps and you glide across the ground
I reach into the air, but your nowhere to be found
So I dance on alone holding on to memories
Wondering if my steps will ever bring you back to me
Tony Oquendo Aug 2014

If I smiled for you, what would you take from me
If I eased your pain, would you set me free
If I carried your burden, would you carry mine
Or leave me alone, to read ..

I would be the snow where you make angels
and the powder where you fall
The leaves that catch your eye
changing colors in the fall
The sounds that lift your spirit
singing softly in the spring
The warm summers sun
and the happiness within

In the glory of dawn and serenity of dusk, in the crisp winters air and a cool summers gust.  As the leaves flutter in autumn and the rains cleanse in spring, I'll always hold close to me these very few things.

The radiance of your smile and the warmth of your embrace.  The sweet smell of your hair as it caresses my face.  The soft touch of your skin as it passes over mine, those very gentle moans as our bodies intertwine.
