So Are The Stars
RL Glassman Sep 2015
Although I am small in sight

when I look at the night sky

it reminds me

so are the stars, that shine so bright

In Spite Of Thunder
RL Glassman Aug 2015
And sleep in spite of thunder
Throw jewels in my open grave
I won't smile but I will wave
And sleep in spite of thunder

And rest in spite of turmoil
Even in dark hours
Greet my grave with yellow flowers
And rest in spite of turmoil

And be soothed in spite of trouble
Visit my stone in pastures shy
Send my tomb azure shards of sky
And be soothed in spite of trouble

Rumination
RL Glassman Apr 2017
I fall
Into Rumination
The thoughts are constant
Buzzing of words
Stinging of fears
I fall
Away from here

I am gone
Into Repetition
The whispers are present
Volume of shouts
Burning of calls
I fall
I fall
I land
Into Rumination
Can't. Stop.

Help.

The Tenderness of Stars
RL Glassman Mar 2017
The tenderness of stars is true
When darkness swallows careful
And I lean back next to you
Of all things learned and taught
Only one I know to be thoughtful
In matters alone and matters not
Only and only the tenderness of stars is true

Fickle Foes - first draft
RL Glassman Dec 2015
Oh fickle foes
or maybe friends?
once a beginning
but now an end
Once loyal
yes, by my side
the night now is
a groom-less bride
the sun is dark
or maybe clear
the brave with swords
now draped in fear
but all the ocean's
deep and wide
that gave me truth
don't ring bonafide
the slender fellow
so debonair
but now my eyes
won't look,
won't dare
oh fickle stars
or are they lights?
the open arms
now give me frights
oh what is up
now is down
what she had worn;
a pastel sheer gown
now is dark with coal
torn i say torn!
oh fickle hearts
that beat like drums
now only make me fear
of some..

days ahead
or maybe past?
what once came first
now comes last
of fickle days
or maybe years?
no longer bring joy
but only fears
oh fickle souls
that once were kind
now are dim,
they once did shine
the lake is hard
white with ice
i then cared not
but now it's thrice
oh fickle thoughts
between my ears
i say, changed to worries
and changed to fears
dark and heavy
like a rock
once a metronome
now a ticking clock
in my palm
the world ahead
but all is left is
dead dead dead
once a caress
now a slash
what once was real
falls as ash
and once it goes
to the floor
what once was real
is no more
oh fickle foes
or maybe friends
it then was given
but now i send

the fallen trees
that touched the grass
they are not there now
for me to pass
the books on shelves
that i once read
now lie burning
dead dead dead

the footsteps left
in the rain
once made me laugh
but now, what pain!

the moon that hung
above my head
has turned to sun
dead dead dead

Oh fickle ways
the earth reminds
It once was lost,
but near i find
Oh fickle hands
that I use
what once was truth,
I dare say, a ruse
The poem written
by my pen
now are chores
Again Again
The sun rises
but then it sets
the stars come out
and this i let
for what the day will
come to bring
i cannot call
i cannot sing
oh fickle strings
that pull the earth
will give thou death
but also birth.

A Soft Looking Lily
RL Glassman Mar 2017
A Lily hurt me deeply
How could something so soft be so hard
It poked and it shamed me
With it's lilac petals and green bone
When I touched it,  felt softness
When I looked away, sensed stone
This is what the Spring gave me!
A soft looking Lily
With a penchant for scorn
wrote this today. entirely random.

What Did The Night Say
RL Glassman Aug 2015
O What did the night say to me
When the shades were drawn
Did they not share a tale
Right before the dawn?

Did the stars chatter
And sing with the moon?
Did the sky dance with one
Nightly time too soon?

Through The Archway
RL Glassman Aug 2015
And through the archway
to the field -
I saw what one would see
what one would see if they could build
build a world of free and blue
flowers on the grassy land
while the wind blows eastward
and takes the green-leafed hand
And under the bridge
to the lake -
I saw what one would see
what one would see if they could make
make a world of wonderful
birds that sing
while the wind blows eastward
and a present it does bring
And over the meadow
to the sky -
I saw what one would see
what one would see if they could fly
fly to the clear skies
atop the heads of all
so through the clouds so white and tall
I saw what one would see
What one would see if they had all!

I Found A Mend
RL Glassman Aug 2015
I found a mend for a friend
amidst the soft dew
I hear bells in our shells
when our quarrels - they were few
I found art in our heart
near the sandy beach
I feel my spirit is much near it
when the sky we do reach
The sun has fire so much higher
when our hands are close
I feel more within my core
when our eyes had light the most
So let us stay in this pleasant way
As fiery as mars
Let us hold this glowing gold
As we dance amongst the stars

O, Earth! O, Heavens!
RL Glassman Aug 2015
O, Earth! O, Heavens!
Do you have any ear?
My mind is ailing,
My heart is sick,
In me I've great fear!

O, Stars! O, Constellations!
Do have any eye?
My body is weak,
My stomach is turning,
All I do is cry!

O, Seas! O, Oceans!
Do you have any hand?
My mind is ailing,
My heart is sick,
Why can't you help, if you're so grand?

I do not kiss where I can ****
Just as I do not repose where I can rule
All I'll say and all I will
To the carers that are so cruel:
I never kiss where I can ****
I am starting to be able to write again. It feels pleasant and familiar.

Do Not Wait For The Morrow
RL Glassman Aug 2015
Do not wait for the morrow
Or better days to come
For once arrived all tomorrow
Will soon be naught and done

Gently comes new sunrise
And nothing wanted achieved
Time like this only flies
And this few believed

Life to all seems sure and long
But time is only just fleeting
To say 'tomorrow' is all wrong
For there's an end to all heart beating

If you want something - do it now
For this day could be your last
In this time you must plow
Or it might just go too fast

So when your day gently does come
Hope all you wanted would be completed
And you're not thinking of what wasn't done,
But rather that you did what was needed

A Sonnet
RL Glassman Aug 2015
oh your sweet love and tender kiss
I know I will deeply miss

your gentle touch and kind caress
I will cry for, I do confess

oh the look of your eyes so azure
I know I will miss for sure

oh your accent and smooth lilt
I know will make my heart so wilt

your kind soul and character great
will keep me forlorn as I wait

now that you've gone far away
my heart and mind have gone astray

O how I do deeply miss
your sweet love and tender kiss
~ An old one of mine ~

Take My Hand
RL Glassman Sep 2015
The things I want to show you
the things I'll show you will be grand
the places that you'll see,
come, take my hand

You'll lay your eyes upon them
your face will light up with glee
I can't wait to show you,
the things that you'll see

The sounds that you'll hear
both quiet and even loud
the places we'll both go
alone or in a crowd

Just follow by my footsteps
watch me as I go
come with me to places
and learn all you do not know

Follow by my shadow
stand with me in light
come take my hand
and we'll see this lovely sight

Oh, don't you understand?
The things that you'll see
take my hand
please do come with me

In castles we will dance
In palaces we will dine
life will be ours
if your hand would reach for mine

Look into my eyes
Tell me what you think
if you'd only come with me
In beauty we would sink

The people to whom we would speak
in blue oceans we would dive
all the places you would see
if you were only alive

A Waltz
RL Glassman Mar 2017
A waltz, I dance, delightful
A second or so in song
A duet, I dance in nightfall
The Music plays on and on...

A smiles grows fast, inching
On careful and gentle mouth
Spin me, turning, falling
Oh, dare I say I laugh!

The memory lasts lifetimes
The moment lived just one
Alone I dance a duet
I Waltz with no one!

Hold me nearer, close
Music in my ears
I remember not how long it lasted
Months, minutes, years!

Listen to the voices playing
A skip in my flighty heart
I can't, I can't, I am unable
To leave, to be apart

I live within and stay
Here for however long
Days may pass by the moon
But the music still plays on!

A dancing hand touches,
Moves like a bird
In flight it bats it's wings
Dancing like spoken word

It casts a shadow on my face
Where hidden answers lie
I dance a duet with none by me
As days and lifes go by

In this moment, an eternity
Somewhere the music plays on,
And I am still dancing, happy
One of my favourites from 2017. So far.

Horizons
RL Glassman Mar 2017
And I say unto thee, wearily
I know not when it will end
The realm of darkness, a growing sphere
Where times lies down to spend
     Exalted standers, enter near
In the same mystical space as I
But Lo! The horizon does approacheth
Over-all they do or ever did try
Loudly I say, how do I perceive it?
The True Greatness that occupies...
A blessed vision, they do not think of
Though it looms before their eyes
     I yell unto thee, fearful
Warning you and beings to surrender
I cannot look down and ignore the darkness
So be it, I shall, forever

Atop A Bed of Clovers
RL Glassman Sep 2017
Atop a bed of clovers
I lie and wish away
the days of burden fallen on me
under willows that softly sway

Under potent clouds and sun
i beg and plead and say:
"let this time and times go on without me
alone, I'll gladly stay"

Without charm and devoid of peace
i taint my every day
so now i wish the sky to hear me:
"Let the world go on and play"

Atop a bed of clovers
I still lie here day by day
I whisper "please forget about me,"
I guess you have to yell when you pray
found this uncompleted in my drafts. figured i would finish it. 2017.

Epithalamium
RL Glassman Aug 2015
Come, my beloved, to meet the bride
Let us together welcome the fall
We'll lie on the sand until eventide
And watch the waves of sea crawl

Come, my beloved, to see the white veil
Let us together utter a song
We'll dance on the sea with a sail
And laugh bold and strong

Come, my beloved, to feel the rings
Let us together exult and cheer
We shall cherish all these things
And be happy that we're here

Where It Grows
RL Glassman Aug 2015
The Moon does play a nightly tune
Springing against the sky
The leaves are blown and have flown
Into my open eye
There it goes, the lovely rose
Nearing the day of wilt
Oh, where it grows, nobody knows
As the clouds they have spilt
It’s passed the bend, near the end
As it waves a leaf
This was one that was almost done
As it passes underneath
Oh, how I wish it could flourish
Right before my eyes
The one last thing I hope to bring
Is this rose’s paradise
I pray that at the end of day
The night will be so kind
To the rose that is pleasant prose
And that peace it will find

To Stand In Solitude
RL Glassman Aug 2017
To stand is solitude, I know
Is my fate for all time that grows
For all days that have passed
And all moments that lie below
To stand in solitude, I dare
Say is my fate for here and for there
Lo and Behold! I see myself standing
In solitude, I know

O, Darkness!
RL Glassman Aug 2015
O, darkness,
you can dream!

And Light,
you do beam!

How glorious
night and day
will greet me on my way

For here is the sun
and there is the moon
and in each do dreams go bloom!

Cecil
RL Glassman Sep 2017
Winged birds swoop from the sky
At the edges of light, tame and wild
Cecilia watched, I don't know why
But she stood...and she smiled

The sky was maybe a lilac blue
Like the water of a sea
A colour remembered fondly, you
Stood and watched with me

With your friends and with your flowers
Falling asleep in meditations
Beneath the arriving of showers
You held young orchids and carnations

Soon I beg for our departure, I cry
"Let us leave," I say to you
But I know my words do not fly
Nor are they a lilac blue

And so, I stand beside you, still
Underneath a sky, I admit is like no other
One day we'll leave, you say we will
But for now I sit at the feet of my mother

~.~

The music then plays softly, sweet
The notes you say you love
Looking up from my grassy seat
I listen to the stars above,

They're Dancing to a nightly tune
Above and behind your shoulder
Along with the changing moon
Our stay turns one year older

With the music and with the night
You teach patience to your child
None is wrong and all is right
When Cecil watched and smiled

With the music that's tossed and turned
You teach calmness to your daughter
All is taught but none is learned
With the Washing of waves in water

~.~

All at once the showers arrive
But your daydream has not slept
The lessons taught are kept alive
I promise -
In my ***** hands they are kept

Where we go and where we went
And the time we spend there
Now just sit, be content
The year will be new and fair

Ever I Have Longed
RL Glassman Oct 2018
Ever I have longed to take
your hand upon my palm
for all the nights I've lied awake
regretting what I had not done

in morning's rise I had believed
in cleansing of my thoughts
but removal I had not achieved
and was left with not a loss

now as ever, I long to take
under moments rash or calm
in days asleep or days awake
your hand upon my palm
love poem? how unusual. a lil one that i quite like, not sure why though -- as it is quite simple and quite trite. Oh well. I like what i like.

My song has notes clearly
near glass water that's still
the moon will hang near me
or they say that it will

My song has notes soothing
By green hills that are old
the clouds above are now moving
with the light that shines gold

My voice is still singing!
though my mouth doth not move
my song is still bringing
clear notes that ring and sooth

My song has notes feeling
near dark valleys so deep
the moon is now kneeling
for the song that I keep

The skies are now singing
with my notes in a tune
watching are stars tinkling
spread about the half moon

My song has notes clearly
with the birds that do fly
and the trees too are joining freely
with the song that does not die
