Time of Years
CE Uptain Jun 30
When we were young we loved so much
The plans we made and the time we lost
Together we learned to face our fears
It was just another time of years

We lived, we loved and we tried so hard
We watched our children grow
We made our place and we cried our tears
It was just another time of years

Now it’s time we are looking back
We both know where we’ve been
We stood strong beside all our piers
It’s just another time of years

Come on baby, you know I like it on top
Come on baby, let’s drop, flip and flop

Come on baby, we can do it fast or slow
Come on baby, I’m never going to stop

Don’t ever want to stop

Come on baby, you know you want me so
Come on baby, you can put on a show
Come on baby, you can skip and hop

Come on baby, let’s do it once more
Come on baby, you make me lose my mind

Penned Another One
CE Uptain Jul 2
I’ve got plenty of ink, it’s my paper that’s shot
I can only write a few words, that’s all I got
Quick to write, slow to understand
I’ve got a fast mind and a slow hand

I had to scratch out some lines
I was trying to find some rhymes
But now it’s over, I think I’m done
Looks like I penned another one
I've been working on my Poet Lament volumes. This is out of #4. Hope you like it.

Burn for You
CE Uptain Jul 8
What does it take to keep a good man burning
What does it take to keep a good heart yearning
I want to burn like a winter’s fire deep into the night
I want to be the flame that brings you morning light
I can burn for you, you set my soul on fire
I can burn for you, you are my one desire
A winter’s fire deep into the night
A burning flame until morning light
Burn me with you fire deep into the night
Burn me with your flame until I see morning light
How a bout a hot love poem on a scorching afternoon?

Dig A Little Deeper
CE Uptain Jun 30
I’m gonna have to dig a little deeper, to keep the world away
Dig a little deeper just to have a place to stay
I’m gonna dig a little deeper, down past the underground
Dig a little deeper until there is no light or any sound
I can’t live up here; there’s too much noise and light
I’ve got to get down, down where it’s dark as night
Don’t need no sunshine or blue skies turning grey
I just need to dig a little deeper so I’ll have some place to stay
Dig down deeper where the worms might crawl
Dig a little deeper so I don’t have so far to fall
Maybe if I dig deep enough I’ll come out the other side
Dig so deep that I won’t have a place to hide
say what you feel always.

Paper Hearts
CE Uptain Jul 22
I’ve got a paper heart and a rock hard brain
It’s hard as any stone; harder that any pain
Now, my paper heart; it bleeds quite well
Look through my eyes and you can surely tell

Love is a tragedy; it’s all systems fail
All that’s good and right, all that’s what the hell
Paper hearts can’t crush a mind of stone
Paper hearts, they only cry when they’re alone

The paper folds quite easily; in the creases you will see
All there is to find and all there will ever be
Solid ground is where you like to run around
And here you are in the lost and found

Paper hearts and rock hard brains
Harder that the hardest pains
Paper hearts with your creases deep
Which of my secrets will you forever keep
This one is from one of my love poem collections.

Whiskey Bottle Blues
CE Uptain Jul 14
My whiskey bottle is crying, it’s empty for the night
Guess I’ll just sleep it off until the morning light
Tomorrow will be better, my bottle will be full
I can take the cap off and have another full pull
My whiskey keeps me sober; it helps to hide the pain
It holds back the sorrows that seem to pour like rain
Now it’s the afternoon and my bottle’s working fine
I feel better as the whiskey clouds my mind
My whiskey bottle is sleeping, dreaming of tomorrow
Thinking about drowning all that pain and sorrow
Wash away the troubles; rinse away the blues
Soaking down the problems that always come in two’s
Now I’ve got my cap off; tilted with the bubbles running free
Keep them going; keep it flowing, till I can’t see
Another from a song book. Technically I'm a beer drinker, but a drinker is a drinker.

Down to the Water
CE Uptain Jun 26
I went down to the water; I saw the waves washing by
They flowed and they swayed, in the ripples was the sky
Reflections; they danced, I saw the world in a dream
Every river flows to the ocean that started in a stream
No one sees what I see; the mind’s eye is each its own
No one feels what I’ve felt or knows the things I’ve known
Lost in the water I can find all I need
I can’t stop the water; only follow where it may lead
I went down to the water to see what I believe
I went down in the water and I’m never going to leave
Please enjoy

Dreams of You
CE Uptain Jun 28
It’s just another lonely night, I'm sure I'll have a drink or two
I'll spend the night, killing off the hours, wishing I had you
It won't take long, I'll be crying, sad songs do me that way
I'll sing along the best I can, when it’s over, I'll have one more to play

I can't get enough to drink, all my songs are sad
I can't quit crying over all the good times we had
Remember when we were so young and free
How could we ever forget about you and me

When I've played my last sad song, I stagger off to bed
I will have you in my arms again, at least inside my head
The sheets are cold without you there, to keep me warm tonight
But I can dream about you now, until the morning light

Dreams are all I have, since I don't have you
Dreams are all I need, someday they'll come true
Dreams will get me through the night again
Dreams will keep me going until then
From my drinking poems volume 2. Bottoms up!

Sunshine on the waterline always seems to ease my mind
Gentle breeze and the drifting clouds, far away from any crowds
Sunshine warm on my face, I can’t think of a better place
Rolling waves and the sunset still are the only things I feel
Sunset brings out the nighttime sky, starlight shines as time goes by
Nighttime fades to the new sunrise, silence breaks with morning birds’ cry
Sunshine on the waterline always seems to ease my mind
Let sky stay blue and my heart be true, I want to spend my time with you
I don’t need anybody except what I’ve got, I just need a little, not a lot
Just give me sunshine on the waterline, set me free to ease my mind
Dedicated to my Dad. He had a place on the river called Homeport. It was so cool.

I’ve Found my Way
CE Uptain Jul 3
There's a cross on the hill, by the old whiskey still
It marks the place where I found you
I was drowning in sorrow, no need for tomorrow
I was lost in that old mountain dew
I remember the night by the whiskey's firelight
I was sitting, while my head tried to swim
Suddenly I saw it through the light in your eyes
I found a way to forget all this sin

That old mountain dew runs deep in my veins
Now the Lord is my savior and in glory he reins
That old mountain dew is finally through
I've found my way unto you

The times have been hard, and the way has been rough
With you in my Heart I don't have to hide
Thank you, dear Lord, for the strength that you give
And for the courage you give me inside

That old mountain dew runs deep in my veins
Now the Lord is my savior and in glory he reins
That old mountain dew is finally through
I've found my way unto you

Poetic Game
CE Uptain Jul 25
Sometimes my muse only sees the dark, he fills my pen with pain
Makes me write sad little lines, and makes tears fall like rain
He’s only trying to spill my heart, so I get poetic relief
He makes me think these things, but it doesn’t change my belief
I believe that I know myself, there’s no one else to blame
I keep writing with my muse, we play a poetic game
I've been spending a lot of time here lately with my muse. He made me write this one.

Love You in My Dreams
CE Uptain Jun 26
The many nights I’ve longed to hold you
All the times I could have told you
Now it seems those times have passed
It’s so hard to make the good times last
If I could only love you in my dreams

The days are long without your smile
It we could only talk for awhile
Maybe things would change for you and me
Better days are waiting to set us free
If I could only love you in my dreams

I remember when the nights were yours and mine
But now they’re cold and the stars no longer shine
No evening moons or morning stars in the sky
Just lonely nights with a lot of time to cry
If I could only love you in my dreams

I guess there’s always hope in each new day
Somehow, some day I will find the words to say
To tell you that I love you so, you’re always on my mind
To search myself to see if your love I can find
If I could only love you in my dreams
I'm just a dreamer.

Writing in the Graveyard
CE Uptain Jun 27
I like to write in the graveyard, I know people there
It’s nice and quiet, city sounds fill the air
A peaceful feeling comes over my mind
All of the memories my heart can find
I don’t see any ghost walking, I only hear voices
Some trying to say make better choices

I like writing in front of my grandfather’s stone
He makes me feel like I’m not alone
I look up, I see more stones of granite
All those names and dates, with no faces
Their memories are there, just in different places
When I finish and it’s time to leave
I’ll dry my eyes, stand quietly and grieve
As a poet, I take my notebook anywhere and find inspiration there too. Doesn't always work. Sometimes I come home with empty pages.

Lighthouse on a Mountain

There’s a lighthouse on a mountain,
far from any shore
It shines its light, for those who need it more
Blinking and shining, showing them the way
Lighting up their path, to find another day

The mountain is tall, it can be seen for miles
Standing strong and silent, after so many trials
Holding past the test of time, a rock among the years
Showing the way for the weak to face all their fears

The lighthouse stands for all to see
It will guide you to all you dream to be
Follow its light, it shows what’s true
See it shine, it shines for you

Christmas Cookies
CE Uptain Jun 29
I see you in your day, maybe with a touch of grey
In the kitchen with little faces, smiling on Christmas day
Baking treats and making memories, passing on the love for free
I see you laughing as the flour spills out; all the children jump and shout:
“We love you Grandma, you’re such a mess”, and in your heart you feel blessed
Cookies made on Christmas day can only be made a certain way
A kitchen full of love, that’s a grandma’s secret recipe
They make great cookies, moments and memories
I wrote this one on the 4th of July and couple of years ago. It was inspired by my mother-in-law and is dedicated to all the past, present and future grandmothers. Merry Christmas.

Love is a blind eye and a broken heart
Can’t see the trouble before the start

You see what you want to and it all looks good
Can’t show you anything but I wish I could

There’s trouble in the making; love doesn’t come cheap
You will pay for it all, even if there’s nothing to keep

You won’t see it coming, you won’t have a clue
There’s going to be trouble and it’s all on you

Wrestling the Devil
CE Uptain Jul 6
You’re wrestling the devil, fighting to be “the man”
When you wrestle the devil, its catch-as-catch can
It’s no holds barred, anything goes, a regular street fight
The world is watching the main event on Saturday night
It’s a death match; the winner takes it all
The match is scheduled for TV time, or one fall

The devil is tricky, he’s got friends outside the ring
Whips, chains, tables and chairs, that’s what they bring
Sorrows got you in the corner, headlock squeezing tight
Best do something quick, even if you have to bite
Pains have got you down, in the center of the mat
He’s got you trapped, like a big city rat
You need to break free, get out of his hold
If you don’t, you’ll be stuck, like the cheese and the mold
You’ve got to keep moving, you better have a plan
When you wrestle the devil, its catch-as-catch can

The crowd is roaring; it’s time to bust out your moves
Careful now, watch him Jim, look out for those hooves
You got him on the ropes, with help from some fan
When you wrestle the devil, it’s catch-as-catch can

Now it’s time the show is over, they called it a draw
He would have had you, except for that one little flaw
He didn’t know you had faith and truth on your side
When he came up against that, all his threats died
You wrestled the devil, now he knows you’re “the man”
When you wrestle the devil, its catch-as-catch can
For all of us who fight demons, fight to win.

When I tell people I’m a poet, I say it’s my hidden talent
I hide my soul, page after page in a poet’s lament
Straight from the heart with passion too
I tell them my words I know are true

If they look closely, they can see me on a line
If they get between the lines, no telling what they’ll find
They might see me crazy, funny or see my depression
They may see that it’s just passive aggression

Sometimes when I share my words with them
They don’t know it’s my way of letting them in
To see me with my passion and heart
To share my pain from the start

I give some away in cheap picture frames
Memories of times, places and names
I hope that they read them with an open mind
I hope it takes them back to times left behind
Another lament. I guess maybe it's 38 more pages to go.

let the waves put me to sleep
Down by the river,
let me ease my mind
In the sounds of the water,
my dreams I can find
Laying on the shoreline,
       peaceful in the sun
Waves washing over me,
       rinsing away sorrows
The sky in reflection,

Down by the river,

There in the water,
my soul can wonder
From one of my dreaming volumes. Hope you like it.

Memories are our only hope that we stay awhile
Deeds done well and things left undone, the struggle day to day
No one wants to be forgotten, no one wants to be left alone
We are here together for the time that we have
It’s what we do, what we say, how we live
Its love and family and what we make do
Our time is not long, the sun sets quickly
It is ours to stand in the light, all is gone within the dark
Fear not for love awaits, worry not for we are all with you

How to read my Poetry
CE Uptain Jul 6
How to read my poetry:

Read it with your eyes, they will show you what I say
See it with your heart, it guides the way
Read it with your mind, keep it open to the truth
Use your understanding to verify the proof
Let it get in your dreams, read it while you sleep
Let it get in your soul and I hope it will keep

When you finish, read it once again
This time with feeling, like blowing in the wind
After that, quietly reflect on the story
Did you find it sweet and nice or ****** and gory

Try and remember your favorite line
Maybe the one about yours or the one about mine
Dry your eyes, blow your nose, get to the funny parts
The one about true love and two broken hearts
You can read them over and over; they never get old
Some of my best lines are as good as gold
I know you poets don't need reading instructions however, this one slipped out.

I penned and I penned, putting titles on top
Happy words, sad words, words to live by
Words about love under the midnight sky

The hours passed quickly, more with each rhyme
I was lost on the pages, I was lost in that time

Sing about You
CE Uptain Jul 10
I could write a song about how the world goes round and round
I could sing about how my life goes up and down
Every word is like a snapshot of my soul
What I dream, what I love and what I like to hold
When I sing about the part that makes it all come true
The world would know everything I love about you

You’re the one that holds me up, when the world puts me in a spin
You’re the reason when I fall down, that I want to get up again
When you hold me in your arms, the world just goes away
Another night of your sweet love and I can face the day

With your love in my heart, the world doesn’t stand a chance
The band is playing our sweet song, come on baby let’s dance
The world may go round and round, as life goes up and down
I can’t wait another day, for your love to come back around

The world will twist and turn its way, night to day again
It might put me down so low, I might not ever win
Holding you can stop the world and make me feel alright
You don’t have to stay too long, just get me through the night

When the sun comes up again, your love will be with me
You will be the song I sing; you will be the light I see
All day long I’ll think of you, your love shines so bright
When the daylight fades to dark, I will have you for the night
Take me for the night again, hold me in your arms
Keep me safe and warm, sooth me with your charms
You’re the one I sing about; you make it all come true
To the world I sing everything I love about you
Just another love song. Oh wait, didn't they write a song about that?

Train Trippin’
CE Uptain Jul 18
We were flying like Hell down a one-track line
Pressing our luck and holding back time
Like a naked freight train running all downhill
We rode with our Hearts that we couldn’t keep still
Uncle Charlie said don’t worry son, I’ve got your back
There ain’t but one train from Hell and its right on track
He gave me a wink and let that whistle blow
He said when we get there we’ll be on the go
We roared and we rumbled on a dead man’s run
I was so scared of it all I was having fun
All through the night we rolled, and we rolled
Hoping to God that those rails would hold
I said Uncle Charlie you’re quite the engineer
You make it look easy, you don’t even steer
He smiled and said you just follow the tracks
And read the burn from those old smokestacks
You shovel the coal like you’re feeding Hell’s fire
You follow your dreams with passion, heart and desire
I had a wild dream about my grandfather one time. He worked for the railroad all his life, it was his only job he ever had. He wasn't an engineer but hey this is poetry.

What kind of Man
CE Uptain Jul 17
What kind of man does what men do
Cheat and steal, then lie to me and you
What kind of man starts a war with his pen
Knowing it will cause the death of many men

What kind of man can change the world we’re in
What kind of man can change other men
Where is the man that can lead us to love
Where are the men guided from above

What man has done for his fellow man
That only true men will do what they can
What kind of man stands tall against men
What kind of man can save us from sin
Here's my deep thought for today. Man, that's deep even for me.

Addicted to Memories
CE Uptain Jul 15
I’m addicted to memories, they flood my brain
Some cause happy tears, others cry in pain
Long days in the sunshine, the nights we had
I try to remember good times, but there are some bad

Strong memories of family, for all the ones who’ve passed
Thoughts of all the love I felt, I hope those memories last
I remember the days of summer we all spent together
I try to forget the days of stormy weather

I can’t remember it all, I’m getting too old
I can still feel love in every memory I hold
Life is just a simple thing, we live, love and die
My addiction to memories, always makes me cry
Another one of my many addictions.

Thankin’
CE Uptain Jul 29
Hum…. this page is blank
Wonder what I’m supposed to thank
No not thank you, what I’m thankin’ about
Thankin’ what makes me mad, makes me shout
Scrambled eggs and brains, that’s what people eat
No brains, I’ll guess I’ll put my point on repeat
I’m thankin’ hard, mind is charging double overtime
That’s a high price to pay for just a simple rhyme
Still working off my new pad.

Progress Report
CE Uptain Jul 25
Checking on my progress, I’m halfway home
Still enough pages to let my mind roam
I can bounce around, the subject won’t matter
Read between the lines, I’m as mad as a hatter
Oh well, this one will take up another page
I’m taking a break from my regular rage
This is a follow-up to My New Pad I posted a few days ago. Thanks for following along.

Getting Older
CE Uptain Jul 14
I’m wondering about the state of my life
It seems as dull as an old pocket knife
No satisfaction in the work I do
No colors but grey and blue

I’m older now and maybe wiser somehow
Seen a lot of time go by up to now
Looking back, it was all so quick
Got a few memories that seem to stick

I remember love, I remember pain
I remember playing out in the rain
I remember people, time and places
I don’t remember names when I see their faces

How much older does one have to be
To understand the things, you need to see
Does age give you rights to win in a fight
Does it let you be the one to see the light

Now it seems that time goes by slow
And it moves based on what you know
Experience can teach you later on
It comes after the lesson is known

I don’t get too excited any more
There’s no mystery behind every door
Been there, done that and moved on
Seen everything I’ve been shown

Looks like old age is for looking back
Wishing for another crack
Wouldn’t do it all over again
Unless it came out the same in the end

So, I’m growing old just for fun
I got wrinkles from too much sun
Can’t say that it’s said and done
Any day just might be the one
I'm too old to lie about my age. Besides when you get old, you don't have to be nice to people.

Emotional Exercise
CE Uptain Jul 8
I get my emotional exercise jumping to conclusions
Working out, to weaken my delusions
My warmup starts with bad morning news
This day is going south, before I get my running shoes
My cardio is done when I get really mad
I have a cool down period, after I get sad
My endurance comes from running down my dreams
Jogging in the marathons, powered by my screams
My strength training routine is carrying my heavy load
I get my reps from hauling it, up and down the road
My form is rather rough these days, my core has gotten weak
I work on my reaction time, only when I have to speak
Getting stretched, I’m too thin from dodging all the lies
Repetition comes from all those tries
Hydration comes from crying all these tears
I’ve been working out by myself for many years
My well-being is based on my emotional exercise
I like to start the day early, just about sunrise
I exercise in my mind, workout hard most everyday
I sit and think, then I write what I’m going to say
Now I’ve had my workout, it’s time for me to rest
I know tomorrow’s routine will keep me at my best
Here's my workout routine, no wonder I'm fat. LOL

Little Lives
CE Uptain Jul 22
Little lives, born so small
No cares, no fear at all
Mothers’ worry while father’s pace
Knowing the world can be a heartless place
Little hands, little fingers, little toes
Always feel the love that shows
Show them love with no regret
These little lives need a safety net
Love them always, forever is how long
Let them love you, let them be strong
This was inspired by the birth of my son. 1993

Haiku Group Three
CE Uptain Jul 23
Haiku – Some Fun
Haikus are fun
You can put in a little
Something like a pun

Haiku – In My Brain
Haiku in my brain
I can’t stop I’m just insane
Haiku don’t complain

Haiku – *******
I see stars, I fell
It’s hot, am I in some hell
Get up you *******

Haiku – For You
Haiku just for you
Learned to count them 5-7-5
Now I’m stuck to you

Haiku - Till Morning
Last one for the night
I can only dream some more
Can’t wait till morning
Ok. I'm getting a little carried away. My last group for a bit.

Mamaw and Papa Said
CE Uptain Jul 22
Mamaw said there’s no one like family
She said just live and let live
Mamaw said you can’t be who you are not
She said just give it all you got

Papa said that a train goes over the mountain
He said the stars ain’t made for counting
Papa said you got to know what burns inside of you
He said you got to know what makes your sky blue

I’ve seen life and the stars burning bright
I’ve seen the cold of a dark and lonely night
I’ve held a memory until I was fast asleep
I’ve said a prayer; hope my soul to keep

Mamaw said there was life in the ever after
She said this life should be full of laughter
Mamaw said hard times make you stronger
She said be tough; you’ll live a little longer

Papa said you cannot be forsaken
He said your dreams are for the taking
Papa said you got to give everything your all
He said you got to listen to hear the call

I’ve seen troubles and dreams so hard to reach
I’ve seen the lessons a hard life can teach
I’ve seen the faith, the glory and the power
I will see it again in my moments of the final hour
In my computer room I have a lot of old family photos and mementos. This one is on the wall with some pictures. Enjoy.
