Love Is
CE Uptain Jul 13
Love is the itch
that I can’t scratch
It comes pretty easy
but there’s always a catch

love, if you get in
you may never get out
what you have to promise
will leave it no doubt

love is the pain
that won’t go away
once you get hooked
you are hooked to stay

love is the feeling
like you’ve never felt
love can take a cold heart
and make it all melt

love will make you crazy
drive you out of your mind
once you get outside your head
you don’t know what you might find

love is the happiness
when you see that special smile
when she puts her arms around you
and holds on for a while

love is like the future
cause you know what you’ve got
you can’t just give a little bit
cause you know you need a lot

love is like glue
that binds me to you
together we are stuck
so, our love must be true
From one of my collections.

Find me in the pages
No one ever read
Read me with heart and soul
Long after I’m dead

My words read like passion out loud
The words I wrote, words I never spoke
May I linger in your dreams
All the dreams you ever dreamed
How our love made me so proud

Haiku – My Style
Enough Haikus yes
I need to write more my style
Only what I know

Haiku – Words of Pain
Get back to rhyming
Let my words flow like the rain
Back to words of pain

Haiku – Save the Dirt
Put my head in dirt
Don’t know why it must hurt so
Maybe save the dirt

Haiku – OCD’s
OCD for me
Look at me now going now
OCD I see
Maybe I'm getting the hang of it. I still have my own style.

Birthdays and Gravity
CE Uptain Jul 16
Birthdays and gravity, the cause of it all
The older I get the more often I fall
Too old to have nice long hair
Too heavy in the middle to fly through the air

Birthdays and gravity, you are slowing me down
Old and heavy, I’m stuck to the ground
Too many candles and too much cake
Birthdays and gravity, that’s all it takes
Happy birthday to all.

Life’s Moment
CE Uptain Jul 10
Life is but a moment, only time will tell
We live, we love, we pass on through
Memories are our only hope that we stay awhile
Deeds done well and things left undone, the struggle day to day
No one wants to be forgotten, no one wants to be left alone
We are here together for the time that we have
It’s what we do, what we say, how we live
Its love and family and what we make do
Our time is not long, the sun sets quickly
It is ours to stand in the light, all is gone within the dark
Fear not for love awaits, worry not for we are all with you
I did some wondering a while back.

I’ve Found my Way
CE Uptain Jul 3
There's a cross on the hill, by the old whiskey still
It marks the place where I found you
I was drowning in sorrow, no need for tomorrow
I was lost in that old mountain dew
I remember the night by the whiskey's firelight
I was sitting, while my head tried to swim
Suddenly I saw it through the light in your eyes
I found a way to forget all this sin

That old mountain dew runs deep in my veins
Now the Lord is my savior and in glory he reins
That old mountain dew is finally through
I've found my way unto you

The times have been hard, and the way has been rough
With you in my Heart I don't have to hide
Thank you, dear Lord, for the strength that you give
And for the courage you give me inside

That old mountain dew runs deep in my veins
Now the Lord is my savior and in glory he reins
That old mountain dew is finally through
I've found my way unto you

My New Pad
CE Uptain Jul 25
I’ve got a new pad, 50 pages
That’s a lot of room for my rages
Enough space to spill my soul
Getting to the cardboard, that’s my goal
It might take me a while
I’ll have to laugh, cry and smile
When I finally get to the end
The cardboard will be my friend
Ops, sorry, that's what happens when I work from memory. I thought I posted this one here.

CE Uptain Jul 29
Hum…. this page is blank
Wonder what I’m supposed to thank
No not thank you, what I’m thankin’ about
Thankin’ what makes me mad, makes me shout
Scrambled eggs and brains, that’s what people eat
No brains, I’ll guess I’ll put my point on repeat
I’m thankin’ hard, mind is charging double overtime
That’s a high price to pay for just a simple rhyme
Still working off my new pad.

Blind Eye
CE Uptain Jul 18
Love is a blind eye and a broken heart
Can’t see the trouble before the start

You see what you want to and it all looks good
Can’t show you anything but I wish I could

There’s trouble in the making; love doesn’t come cheap
You will pay for it all, even if there’s nothing to keep

You won’t see it coming, you won’t have a clue
There’s going to be trouble and it’s all on you

Love is a blind eye and a cold broken heart
You won’t find the pieces after you are torn apart

An empty hole where your heart used to be
A desperate soul just dying to be free
For all the love sick poets. Here is my version.

Down to the Water
CE Uptain Jun 26
I went down to the water; I saw the waves washing by
They flowed and they swayed, in the ripples was the sky
Reflections; they danced, I saw the world in a dream
Every river flows to the ocean that started in a stream
No one sees what I see; the mind’s eye is each its own
No one feels what I’ve felt or knows the things I’ve known
Lost in the water I can find all I need
I can’t stop the water; only follow where it may lead
I went down to the water to see what I believe
I went down in the water and I’m never going to leave
Please enjoy

Each Word
CE Uptain Jun 26
The hand is slower than the spoken word
I write so slow, I’m barely heard
Each word is a careful choice
Each word my only voice

My soul in words I’ve written down
Quietly I rage without a sound
Baring ******* my pen to feel
What’s on the page, what is real
Any poets agree?

Sing about You
CE Uptain Jul 10
I could write a song about how the world goes round and round
I could sing about how my life goes up and down
Every word is like a snapshot of my soul
What I dream, what I love and what I like to hold
When I sing about the part that makes it all come true
The world would know everything I love about you

You’re the one that holds me up, when the world puts me in a spin
You’re the reason when I fall down, that I want to get up again
When you hold me in your arms, the world just goes away
Another night of your sweet love and I can face the day

With your love in my heart, the world doesn’t stand a chance
The band is playing our sweet song, come on baby let’s dance
The world may go round and round, as life goes up and down
I can’t wait another day, for your love to come back around

The world will twist and turn its way, night to day again
It might put me down so low, I might not ever win
Holding you can stop the world and make me feel alright
You don’t have to stay too long, just get me through the night

When the sun comes up again, your love will be with me
You will be the song I sing; you will be the light I see
All day long I’ll think of you, your love shines so bright
When the daylight fades to dark, I will have you for the night
Take me for the night again, hold me in your arms
Keep me safe and warm, sooth me with your charms
You’re the one I sing about; you make it all come true
To the world I sing everything I love about you
Just another love song. Oh wait, didn't they write a song about that?

Googled a bit, man I feel smarter
Spray can painting, operation of a lumber yarder
It showed everything, from shopping to the Walmart farter
How to be you, where to use cream of tarter

Google is so smart, it always answers back
Even us old folks don’t mind giving it a wack
Once we learn to point and click enough
We can actually remember a whole lots of stuff

Google got pictures, more shopping and life advice
All at our fingertips, isn’t that so nice
If you don’t get it, you can always ask twice
AI tightens its grip, now we’re in a smart vice

Google me this and search for all that
Sit in your chair and research why your fat
Learn to tie your shoes, how to wear a hat
Check out funny videos of some **** cat

Google didn’t help Papa talk to his friends
He didn’t need cell phones, dots and dashes he sends
Mamaw never used it to know how to make ends
Now we just all believe, whatever posts then trends

p.s. I” HAVE TO” use it all the time, that’s why I can write (*****) about it.

Hold Me
Come lay beside me
Hold me for awhile
Wrap me gently in your arms
Touch me with your smile

Come and close your pretty eyes
Let’s just drift away
Hold me tightly in your sleep
I am here to stay

When you finally wake
I’ll be holding you
Wipe the dreams from your eyes
Just hold on to what is true

Little Lives

Little lives, born so small
No cares, no fear at all
Mothers’ worry while father’s pace
Knowing the world can be a heartless place
Little hands, little fingers, little toes
Always feel the love that shows
Show them love with no regret
These little lives need a safety net
Love them always, forever is how long
Let them love you, let them be strong
This was inspired by the birth of my son. 1993

When this Rock is Over
CE Uptain Jul 27
Riding this rock, that just won’t stop spinning
Fighting a battle, nobody will be winning
No need to worry, we don’t fight alone
There’s about a zillion of us, calling it home
We fight each other, while our nations fight more
It’s all over the news, with the blood and the gore
This place is getting warmer, no matter what we do
Soon it’s going to be hot, too hot for me and you
There will be nowhere to go, no place to hide
We can’t make it stop, we’re all on this ride
We can’t get off, at least not without dying
We try to save ourselves; let nature do the crying
Rivers run dry, they flow yellow, green, and black
When this rock is over, so is time, and that’s a fact
This is my latest worldly rant.

How to read my Poetry
CE Uptain Jul 6
How to read my poetry:

Read it with your eyes, they will show you what I say
See it with your heart, it guides the way
Read it with your mind, keep it open to the truth
Use your understanding to verify the proof
Let it get in your dreams, read it while you sleep
Let it get in your soul and I hope it will keep

When you finish, read it once again
This time with feeling, like blowing in the wind
After that, quietly reflect on the story
Did you find it sweet and nice or ****** and gory

Try and remember your favorite line
Maybe the one about yours or the one about mine
Dry your eyes, blow your nose, get to the funny parts
The one about true love and two broken hearts
You can read them over and over; they never get old
Some of my best lines are as good as gold
I know you poets don't need reading instructions however, this one slipped out.

Getting Older
CE Uptain Jul 14
I’m wondering about the state of my life
It seems as dull as an old pocket knife
No satisfaction in the work I do
No colors but grey and blue

I’m older now and maybe wiser somehow
Seen a lot of time go by up to now
Looking back, it was all so quick
Got a few memories that seem to stick

I remember love, I remember pain
I remember playing out in the rain
I remember people, time and places
I don’t remember names when I see their faces

How much older does one have to be
To understand the things, you need to see
Does age give you rights to win in a fight
Does it let you be the one to see the light

Now it seems that time goes by slow
And it moves based on what you know
Experience can teach you later on
It comes after the lesson is known

I don’t get too excited any more
There’s no mystery behind every door
Been there, done that and moved on
Seen everything I’ve been shown

Looks like old age is for looking back
Wishing for another crack
Wouldn’t do it all over again
Unless it came out the same in the end

So, I’m growing old just for fun
I got wrinkles from too much sun
Can’t say that it’s said and done
Any day just might be the one
I'm too old to lie about my age. Besides when you get old, you don't have to be nice to people.

I couldn’t sleep the other night
Thought I’d get into a late night write
The words suddenly just started to flow
My pen and myself were both in the know

I wrote so many words, I couldn’t stop
I penned and I penned, putting titles on top
Happy words, sad words, words to live by
Words about love under the midnight sky

The hours passed quickly, more with each rhyme
I was lost on the pages, I was lost in that time
I just kept writing, every word I could find
Trying and trying to empty my mind

When I looked up it was six in the evening
I was so tired, my mind thoughts were leaving
I had finished and finally took a break
I had 38 poems without one single mistake

Follow up to 39 more pages to go
Don't believe the part about no mistakes, I had to get a new eraser.
CE Uptain Jul 1
When I tell people I’m a poet, I say it’s my hidden talent
I hide my soul, page after page in a poet’s lament
Straight from the heart with passion too
I tell them my words I know are true

If they look closely, they can see me on a line
If they get between the lines, no telling what they’ll find
They might see me crazy, funny or see my depression
They may see that it’s just passive aggression

Sometimes when I share my words with them
They don’t know it’s my way of letting them in
To see me with my passion and heart
To share my pain from the start

I give some away in cheap picture frames
Memories of times, places and names
I hope that they read them with an open mind
I hope it takes them back to times left behind
Another lament. I guess maybe it's 38 more pages to go.

Train Trippin’
CE Uptain Jul 18
We were flying like Hell down a one-track line
Pressing our luck and holding back time
Like a naked freight train running all downhill
We rode with our Hearts that we couldn’t keep still
Uncle Charlie said don’t worry son, I’ve got your back
There ain’t but one train from Hell and its right on track
He gave me a wink and let that whistle blow
He said when we get there we’ll be on the go
We roared and we rumbled on a dead man’s run
I was so scared of it all I was having fun
All through the night we rolled, and we rolled
Hoping to God that those rails would hold
I said Uncle Charlie you’re quite the engineer
You make it look easy, you don’t even steer
He smiled and said you just follow the tracks
And read the burn from those old smokestacks
You shovel the coal like you’re feeding Hell’s fire
You follow your dreams with passion, heart and desire
I had a wild dream about my grandfather one time. He worked for the railroad all his life, it was his only job he ever had. He wasn't an engineer but hey this is poetry.

Forget the good times that we had
Remember what was good is now all so bad
Can’t remember that time we snuck away
Or how we spent that cold and rainy day

Laughter cries as the days go slowly by
Every night gets longer like the darkened sky
Kisses long, yet only once remembered
Love from a feeling down to just a word

Remember me; I’m the one who said forever
Remember me, when I said that I would never
Remember me; I’m the one there in the moonlight
Remember me; I’m the one there holding you tight

Afternoons and those old lonely nights
Mornings come, I just don’t see the daylights
Memories they seem to fade with the afternoon sun
I remember when it was just one to one

Remember me; I’m the one that you said you could run to
Remember me; I said that I would never hurt you
Remember me; I’m the one with my arms open wide
Remember me; I’m the one, I’m your side by side
Another old one. Hope it's still good.

Love You in My Dreams
CE Uptain Jun 26
The many nights I’ve longed to hold you
All the times I could have told you
Now it seems those times have passed
It’s so hard to make the good times last
If I could only love you in my dreams

The days are long without your smile
It we could only talk for awhile
Maybe things would change for you and me
Better days are waiting to set us free
If I could only love you in my dreams

I remember when the nights were yours and mine
But now they’re cold and the stars no longer shine
No evening moons or morning stars in the sky
Just lonely nights with a lot of time to cry
If I could only love you in my dreams

I guess there’s always hope in each new day
Somehow, some day I will find the words to say
To tell you that I love you so, you’re always on my mind
To search myself to see if your love I can find
If I could only love you in my dreams
I'm just a dreamer.

Writing in the Graveyard
CE Uptain Jun 27
I like to write in the graveyard, I know people there
It’s nice and quiet, city sounds fill the air
A peaceful feeling comes over my mind
All of the memories my heart can find
I don’t see any ghost walking, I only hear voices
Some trying to say make better choices

I like writing in front of my grandfather’s stone
He makes me feel like I’m not alone
I look up, I see more stones of granite
All those names and dates, with no faces
Their memories are there, just in different places
When I finish and it’s time to leave
I’ll dry my eyes, stand quietly and grieve
As a poet, I take my notebook anywhere and find inspiration there too. Doesn't always work. Sometimes I come home with empty pages.

Christmas Cookies

I see you in your day, maybe with a touch of grey
In the kitchen with little faces, smiling on Christmas day
Baking treats and making memories, passing on the love for free
I see you laughing as the flour spills out; all the children jump and shout:
“We love you Grandma, you’re such a mess”, and in your heart you feel blessed
Cookies made on Christmas day can only be made a certain way
A kitchen full of love, that’s a grandma’s secret recipe
They make great cookies, moments and memories
I wrote this one on the 4th of July and couple of years ago. It was inspired by my mother-in-law and is dedicated to all the past, present and future grandmothers. Merry Christmas.

Lighthouse on a Mountain

There’s a lighthouse on a mountain,
far from any shore
It shines its light, for those who need it more
Blinking and shining, showing them the way
Lighting up their path, to find another day

The mountain is tall, it can be seen for miles
Standing strong and silent, after so many trials
Holding past the test of time, a rock among the years
Showing the way for the weak to face all their fears

The lighthouse stands for all to see
It will guide you to all you dream to be
Follow its light, it shows what’s true
See it shine, it shines for you

Papa said you got to know what burns inside of you
He said you got to know what makes your sky blue

I’ve seen life and the stars burning bright
I’ve seen the cold of a dark and lonely night

I’ve said a prayer; hope my soul to keep

I will see it again in my moments of the final hour
In my computer room I have a lot of old family photos and mementos. This one is on the wall with some pictures. Enjoy.

Haiku – Wood
Today I bought wood
It took a week to get here
I like my new wood

Haiku – Layout
Organization
Everything is pure chaos
I like my layout

Haiku – I Wonder
Sometimes I wonder
Other times I just wander
Time now to ponder

Haiku – Rain Falling
I see rain falling
I felt the breeze blowing fresh
I smell rain falling
More haikus, I'm still learning.

When to Stop
CE Uptain Jul 18
I’ve got 1200 poems, all shapes and sizes
Some in verse, others in reprises
I mostly rhyme, 99 percent of the time
I beat up the world and then I whine
A poet’s lament, I ***** about this and that
I post some online, try to start a chat
Sometimes I write them just for fun
Proud of myself when I finish another one
I’m all in, heart, soul and mind
Writing down every word I can find
I try not to go too far, I don’t know when to stop
I just keep going until my pen says drop

Addicted to Memories
CE Uptain Jul 15
I’m addicted to memories, they flood my brain
Some cause happy tears, others cry in pain
Long days in the sunshine, the nights we had
I try to remember good times, but there are some bad

Strong memories of family, for all the ones who’ve passed
Thoughts of all the love I felt, I hope those memories last
I remember the days of summer we all spent together
I try to forget the days of stormy weather

I can’t remember it all, I’m getting too old
I can still feel love in every memory I hold
Life is just a simple thing, we live, love and die
My addiction to memories, always makes me cry
Another one of my many addictions.

Is there one missing or two
Count down, one, two, four

All kind of things from the past
I have things that last

Haiku – To the Point
Five, seven, five, done
A lot to say in short form
Get to the point quick

Haiku – Syllables
Haiku, it’s coming
Rhythm, it’s how to play the game
Syllables that count
Just some more random haikus.

Emotional Exercise
CE Uptain Jul 8
I get my emotional exercise jumping to conclusions
Working out, to weaken my delusions
My warmup starts with bad morning news
This day is going south, before I get my running shoes
My cardio is done when I get really mad
I have a cool down period, after I get sad
My endurance comes from running down my dreams
Jogging in the marathons, powered by my screams
My strength training routine is carrying my heavy load
I get my reps from hauling it, up and down the road
My form is rather rough these days, my core has gotten weak
I work on my reaction time, only when I have to speak
Getting stretched, I’m too thin from dodging all the lies
Repetition comes from all those tries
Hydration comes from crying all these tears
I’ve been working out by myself for many years
My well-being is based on my emotional exercise
I like to start the day early, just about sunrise
I exercise in my mind, workout hard most everyday
I sit and think, then I write what I’m going to say
Now I’ve had my workout, it’s time for me to rest
I know tomorrow’s routine will keep me at my best
Here's my workout routine, no wonder I'm fat. LOL

Control the chaos

You can’t feel my pain
