So you ask God for the “perfect woman.”
Specifically about her style, traits, personality, believes & well, her body.
Writing down every single detail.
Then it happens- God delivers the woman of your dreams.
It's everything you wanted.
An endless river stream of love poured down into the soul
as everything feels perfect.
Too perfect... or so it seems

Now, you’re worried
It’s uncommon for you to be treated by the “perfect woman.”
As your mind races, you began to panic.
Searching for flaws & hoping to find negative habits.
Yet, you come up with nothing...
So you convince yourself,“ No this can’t be real?!”
You advise the “perfect woman” to leave.
Due to denial, you canceled your dreams.
No trust in God’s plan, signs of guilt tripping.

Now you realized what you have done.
What a mess you made.
You knew you should've stayed.
Regretting your decision
You chase & beg the “perfect woman” to take you back.
She says "no"-which causes frustration.
Now you blew it, & what's worst? You knew it.
So you go back to square one
Where it all began,
Asking God for another "perfect woman" to come into your life again...

Lord, tonight I’m on my hands & knees, so I hope that you’re Listenin’.
Getting difficult for me to avoid multiple temptations
I’m trying to stay discipline.
Unlike mankind, I’m choosing to be build different.
Changing the outcome of my actions, I’m being way more vigilant.
I want to keep our promise we made together through this covenant.
And, I take full responsibility. I know that I’m not innocent.

Man, last year I got into a fight with man who was ignorant.
Got upset over a call in basketball I made & he lost it.
Took his frustration out on me due to his emotions being bottled in.
He had it out for me for a long time, this was no coincidence.
I wanted to mark his face with a final blow that would be permanent.
I was ready to risk it all that day during this whole incident.

Okay, summer time comes, I was in class all day studyin’
Evening shifts, late nights, grinding hard, constantly hustlin’
After 5 long weeks I failed my finance class that I was in
Program dropped me out of it, GPA low, not proud of it
Tick off cause I felt like all that hard work was all for nothin &
Decided to switch up, pursue poetry that I’m passionate in
So I left school, never looked back at the lost accomplishment

2019 was the start of a beginning breakup.
A test-run to give me a taste of a nasty setup.
March 29th- the day lost everything due to a house fire.
Left a terrible sight in my eyes making feel bitter.
Homeless for 4 months with nothin attached to my name neither.
Life handing out frustration, gimme a minute, I need a breather.

But now I’ve grown more mature while learning how to stay pure.
Stuck in this grey area of love of feeling sure & sometimes insecure.
My girl-I know I’m good for her, but I’m also real to her.
Times are different with her, hopefully not like what they once were.
Learning how to not blind myself when I express love.
Searching for your voice, God, tell me if she’s the one?
Hoping for a yes so I know that I am enough.
Otherwise the 3 of us will have a lot to discuss, that’s real.

I quit dating because my heart was torn open so many times.
Distance myself from friends because I was being taken advantage of.
Stop writing because my poems won’t change lives.
Gave up on the promise land because it’s difficult to reach.

And right at that moment you were just about to tell them you love too.

I am a child of God
I am not to be played with.

My flaws may get me into trouble but

In the beginning,
Me & you had a meet & greet.
We interact with each other
Getting to know one another
As we enjoy the rest of our day together connecting.
Fast forward-Time flies, the days go by
Texting, calling, & meeting you is almost a daily routine.
Things went well, with what seems high promise
However; We never tell how our hearts are truly feeling.

As time goes on, we begin to lose contact.
You stop seeing my face
Distance is placed
Interest seems lost with no knowledge of what caused
You to focus somewhere else.
So....There’s really not much for me to do besides leave & be cool about it.

To be honest:
I can’t be mad, nor even be sad
Also, not to sound mean or make a scene but...
Did I waste my time???

You may not understand every poem that is written
Or the message they send.

So appreciate the art, story tellers, fictions, struggles, good & bad times-the life of poetry.

Because each poem, including this one, has something to give.

I am looking for validation,
To staying focus on the right path.
Or, at least, in the right direction.

My shyness appears when I’m around you.
Catching my eyes & attention every time we talk or next to each other.
However; I don’t know if I should express my feelings.
It makes me nervous because I don’t want to mess anything up.
But at the same time
I want to tell you how much you mean to me.
Even if it’s only been a short period of time of knowing you.

See, I have these weird moments when
I wonder if you can hear my heart sing a tune.
And it says “I love you”.
But through that tune

Being told to not rush things.
Longing, yearning, dreaming of what’s to come.
And yet
There is an incapability to step forward.
So I ask,
Are we really rushing love?
By not letting it bloom it’s value
Right there, in that moment of truth.
Or is it just unnecessary opinions,
Given to us because we’re afraid of the inevitable?
We want to change the world but not what holds us back.

“The time will come.”

But, you still say

How long do you wait

I write this poem being true with what’s real; however I try to make it relatable & sweet.
In this moment I am confident, but five minutes from now I’ll be back to my true self.. shy.
Today I’m feeling skinny, tomorrow I look fat.
Im ready to do something productive; next thing you know I’m in bed on snapchat.

In my last moment, I dream of being already rich with friends, heading to the islands.
Or giving back to my family & the community watching everyone happily smiling.
But reality brings me back into this world, thinking it was surreal or so it seemed.
Now I’m in my apartment waking up like, “**** it was just a dream.”

Back in 2007:
I understood everything that day.
You gave up your custody rights for me to live a better life outside of Chicago.
Greatest, yet,  most heartbreaking moment of our lives that you ever did for me.
It got me away from the gang life
And I thank you for it every day through prayer.
Because without that sacrifice,
I wouldn’t have became the man I am now....
I was 12 when this all started.

2008-2019:
From a far distance
You watched me grow up under another roof.
My shyness faded
While my character began to blossom.
I learned to express new emotions
Expand my vocabulary
Use my kindness to create relationships
Battle my sins, demons, as well as my own identity
Expanding my mind & soul.
Nevertheless, your baby boy survived.

But the truth is, I never see you anymore.
There hasn’t been a handful of times you came down to see me vs me see you
I felt a lost connection between us.
Those random days/ nights I needed you physically, not through the phone.
Is it because you couldn’t raise me like you wanted?
Maybe it's because I look like my father?
Or maybe it’s because you prefer to start living your own life now that i'm grown.
Which you deserve 100%
I wanna see you happy always.
However, my only wish is too see you more often.
That’s all....

I love when we walk to the park to get fresh air.
The sight of seeing multiple colors in the sky, during this sunset, makes your skin bright up.
We lay in the grass under a tree on your favorite blanket
Watching the sun sleep as the mood awaken.
As we enjoy each other’s company
You ask one simple question:
“what do you see in me?”
In that moment, if you stared into her eyes like I did, you can see through the window to her soul.
A Queen with benefits.

All of this energy flows through a melody,

When I wake up in the morning, you’re the first thing that’s on my mind.
I get out of bed, stretch real good, & yawn real loud so that you can hear me breathing.
I rush to the bathroom, quickly brush my teeth, wash my face, & run straight for you.
Running down the hallway, staring at your door, only to open it slowly to see if you’re awake.
I peek my head around the corner...
You’re eyes open as they lock onto mines with such joy.
Happiness appears on your face, reaching out for me.
Happiness upon my face, as my heart skips a beat.
Amazed with such excitement, I run as fast as I can screaming out a laugher.
We hug & kiss knowing that’s one of my favorite things.
When I wake up in the morning, our first words are:
