Past
Mitch Prax Oct 2022
It was good
while it lasted,
wasn't it?
But all things must end and
though I may miss it,
things are better left
in the past.

After the Ending
Mitch Prax Oct 2019
In all honesty,
I didn't like how it ended.
I tried convincing myself
that is was okay,
but it was never okay,
and it never will be.
But that doesn't mean
I wish it never happened.
I'm glad it did-
I needed it to,
and as much as I
wish to rewrite the ending,
I know I wouldn't be the person
I am today if it had
happened differently.

Demons
Mitch Prax Jul 2022
I am hollow
but full of demons
and nothing more.
I hear their shrieks echo
through this soul and sometimes
it is more than I can take.
Some days are better than others-
some days they do not take the air
out of my lungs and leave me
choking for my sanity.
There is nothing else in me,
not anymore,
just demons and more demons
that swallow me whole.

And much lesser of those

The Voyage
Mitch Prax Oct 2020
The nights
are growing darker
and the waves
are getting rougher
Surrounded by
darkness and disarray,
I make my haven
in this boat built for two.
This love is an ocean
beneath a sky of uncertainty-
it consumes us night after night.
But, together,
we take this voyage-
just me and you.

Masks
Mitch Prax Jan 2019
Loving you was a battlefield,
and a paradise.
The many masks you wore–
all those changing faces.
I never knew which one
you were coming home wearing.
One day you love me,
the next day hate me.

The Enemy Within
Mitch Prax Feb 2023
You are your own worst enemy.
Indeed, it is you who have placed
these traps and obstacles along your path.
You underestimated the enemy inside-
its power, its strength, its perseverance.
It has overwhelmed you,
made you feel small and insignificant.
So do not waste your time in search
of an enemy in this world-
your enemy inhabits you.
You have only to look
within.

Unseen
Mitch Prax Jun 2023
Some pains can go unseen,
rather, they are carved into the soul,
an endless chasm that bleeds forever.
These pains are silent to the world,
but they tear us apart from within.
And only from deep within
are crying out so loud that
only our demons can hear.

Trauma
Mitch Prax May 2023
Can you understand my hesitation?
No one has loved me as you have.
You give me everything and expect nothing in return.
My happiness seems to be your primary goal
and for that I am forever grateful.
Still, some days are harder than others.
I try not to let the pain and the heartbreak
get in the way but old habits die hard.
We all deserve to be loved, don't we?
