This Is My 200th Poem
Ann M Johnson Aug 2014
This is my 200th poem
I am so floored
I am overjoyed
I  am so excited to have made it this far
I have to let you know that I could not have done it without you all
You are the best followers, but I don't like saying it that way because you are so much more, You are my totally Awesome friends
You give so much inspiration, you are my muses and amazing in so many ways
You give comfort on tough days
You turn a frown into a smile
you also bring me to tears at times because your poems touch me so much
You make me laugh at times (especially Mike)
I may not know many of you face to face, but know one else can take your place in my heart
How can I show my full appreciation for you
You are amazing
You are Fantastic
You are priceless
You are irreplaceable
I am so glad to have all of you, My Hello Poetry Family!
I would have had more than 200 poems but some never made it here.
This 200th poem is a Tribute to all of YOU!

Trouble(10 word)
Ann M Johnson Aug 2014
Opportunity may knock, but trouble hangs out at the door.
I  say this is true at least for me, I had my share of trouble recently a drunk neighbor was hanging out at my door and was harassing me until I got the police and management involved.
Ann M Johnson Aug 2014
Hey Princess my name is Han, I picture us together in a Galaxy Far Far Away
I  promise you adventure to say the least
I'm not saying the courtship will be all filled with peace
I will fly you in a spaceship which is very nice
I hope you are able to withstand some strife
I have to let you know  that I have a kind of pet he is quite unique
He is a Wookie  you may in fact rather kiss him than me
If my mannerisms get under your skin
I feel I should warn you about the competition that is interested in You
I heard about a fat ugly guy named Jabba The Hut, he might even want to imprison you
Well I heard you once were interested in your brother, I am willing to overlook that fact
I can tell you that dating me is not boring to say the least
We will fight against The Empire and you will get to meet many Jedi Knights
You and I together will have to dodge fire from Storm trooper  guns
Not to mention the dictator Darth Vader wants to **** both me and you
I will let you know if this don't appeal to you or sound like to much fun
You could date a certain doctor named DR. Who and see were he and his Tardis might take you.
This is dedicated to some friends of mine who are big science fiction fans, and my daughter who likes DR. Who
I also give credit to George Lucas who created the Star Wars films and Whoever created DR. Who

I signed  up  one of my socks for Match.com because it was missing it's match, after doing laundry.
I hate it when that happens
I hope it will find it's match and that they will make a perfect pair.
I swear the washing machine gets hungry and eats socks
I hope you enjoy this comic relief, I wrote.

Difference ( Author Unknown)
Ann M Johnson Aug 2014
One day an old man was walking down a beach and He say a little boy picking up starfish that had washed up on the shore,
He came up to the little boy and told him "You can't possibly save all those Starfish" The little boy picked up a starfish and threw it back in the ocean and said" For this one I made all the difference"
I am sharing a story I heard some years ago this is Ad lib to the best of  my memories.
My friend's if you feel like you don't make a difference , or feel discouraged your poems don't get many views, keep in mind if they reach even one person they can make a difference.

The Message
Ann M Johnson Aug 2014
I tried writing my words in the sand for all to see
Imagine my surprise when right before my eyes it got swept away by the tide of the river in front of me
I then tried to send a message in a bottle the bottle quickly got crushed and the paper turned to mush
I must have rushed and not planed to carefully
I later tried to write something on a stone, it felt good to hold ever so carefully, despite my best plans it slipped through my hands; and landed with too many other similar stones and blended in and I could not retrieve it again
I could have let discouragement win, but I thought I should try it again, because I really wanted to share this message
I tried once more and carefully explored my surroundings
I suddenly saw a big rock I had to trend some water to get there
I carefully took stock in whether or not this rock would do to display the message , and would it be worthwhile
I smiled as I observed that it was solid and could not be  moved by the tides: it had a  firm foundation so firm in fact that it could support my weight
The son shined on it creating warmth and I felt a sense of peace, I felt a release from the struggle of moments before; the words were clearly illuminated by the suns light on the words displayed  like lighting the way for those who would receive the message; and it was good.
This poem idea came to me at about 4 am, when unsuccessfully trying to sleep so I got up and jotted it down, then decided to post it.
I hope you like it my hello poetry friends and that it may inspire you.

The Tastes Of Childhood
Ann M Johnson Aug 2014
Their are times when I wish I could recapture some of the past
and have good memories that would always last and not fade over time
There are times when I can recapture something if only for a moment
A taste a smell, reminding me of a loved one lost, but for a little while at least I feel happy and content and in a way feel somehow transported back in time.
I call it the tastes of childhood, like when I was in Grandma's kitchen I remember the smell of her M&M; cookies, I have never since tasted cookies so fine
I remember my Dad making polish sausages bought fresh from the local sausage house, my mouth just waters just thinking about it even though I just ate.
Then on Sundays we would all gather around the table together as a family and eat together which was quite a feat, considering a family  of nine children, and everyone seemed to scream out I want a leg all at once, which was a problem being chicken fryers back them did not consist of all legs; I still don't know how my parents managed the chaos of all us  children

I also remember my dad smelling of Old Spice and I think it was nice
I wonder if you to will be transported down memory lane, if only for a moment
What are your tastes of childhood? feel free to share
Feel free to share or write something on your own with a similar theme and if you do please share it with me, I would Love to read it,
I thought of this after eating some local meat market Polish Sausage this morning.

Audience Of One
Ann M Johnson Aug 2014
Sometimes I write and it feels right to share for many eyes to see. and it is fun to share
Other times the words do not seem to come out alright or it feels
to personal to me
Those times I'm Ok with writing and not fighting the feelings: even if it is just for an audience of one

Disposable
Ann M Johnson Aug 2014
I am searching for something long lasting in this disposable world.
We have instant messages and fast food.
we are lacking things that are longer lasting things are made of cheap plastic , not anything fantastic or made to last.
Our friendship's can be too quickly pushed aside or become like strangers when the tide comes in.
When will we want something more permanent
When will we hold onto something more lasting, instead of things like cheap plastic and the disposable.
We need to hang on and hold on to what is worthwhile and not what can just be bought.
It is just a cheap Imitation and is just disposable.
It is time to reach for what is real and tell your Loved ones how you feel.
I was just thinking about the state of things in this world compared to what is truly important.

Christmas In July
Ann M Johnson Jul 2014
It is Christmas in July
The neighbor's having  BBQ's
Inviting not just a few, but as many as they can fit
To roast Smores and sing songs around the fire pit
They even gave a poor boy a soft ball mitt
They fed some local homeless men and women too
They also inspired some random acts of kindness
I hope the trend spreads like wildfire
It is a wonderful time to put aside any family feuds
I don't know if the story will make the news

It is really up to me and you, to make it Christmas In July and all year too!
This is how it should be generosity not just ,on Christmas but all year long

Noise
Ann M Johnson Jul 2014
There is so much noise that surrounds me everyday
Car alarms that beep as I walk by
Planes or helicopter's flying overhead in the sky
The alarm clock buzzing to  get me out of bed
The cross walk clicking  beckoning for me to cross quick
So much noise can make my head feel thick
The register beeping as I press the keys
I could get easily distracted or annoyed
I would rather think of it as the music of life, and appreciate that my heart still beats at least for one more day ; and hopefully many more , so I will embrace all the noise
I am having sinus surgery tomorrow
Just some random poem, I hope you like it.

Thanks For The Journey
Ann M Johnson Jul 2014
Today is the one year Anniversary of when my daughter insisted that I needed to set up a Hello Poetry account, because she loves my poems and said I was a good poet.
I was a little hesitant at first due to me not having much experience in sharing my writings with others usually only very close family and less than a handful of friends.
Today is also my Birthday and I want to celebrate it with you, The site calls you followers, but to me you are some of my closest friends.
We are bonded by our Love of the written word
We are in this Journey together, we make each other laugh, cry, smile  and inspire each other. I need to say each and everyone of you are my muse, my inspiration, you are so Awesome, it don't matter if you get tons of views or followers, your poems are important to me ,and to others who faithfully read your page.
Keep writing it is a talent, a gift that keeps giving, your words are immortalized in print that can be a powerful thing, think of the poets from long ago who's poems are still read today.
In summary I feel blessed to have know you all over the past year and I  want to say Thanks For The Journey and express my gratitude !!!
You are all great, don't forget it!

Point Of No Return
Ann M Johnson Jul 2014
Let us set sail leave ever thing that ails
Let us toss out the map cuddle up and take a nap
Let loves compass be are guide to the Point Of No Return
Let us get away from civilization
We can have our own hideaway in the Point Of No Return
You can drown in the ocean in my eyes, my love I can't disguise
Love, let us set sail today, let us not wait one more day to go, to the Point Of No Return, there is much we can discover about each other, at the Point Of No Return
Will You come sail away with me to the Point Of No Return?
Ann M Johnson Jul 2014
Independence  day, a day to celebrate the birth of a nation and those who fought and currently fight to keep it free.
It is something more at least to me ,it don't have to be limited to just the forth of July
We can have Independence day any day
When some one gets victory over Alcohol or drugs, it is an Independence Day
When someone breaks free from abuse, it is an Independence Day
When troops come home after war and get to be back in their loved ones arms, it is an Independence day
When the Lonely  finally make a friend, it is an Independence Day
When the Prodigal returns to a loving family after years or being away, It is an Independence Day!
When emotional chains finally break loose, it is Independence Day
May the rockets blaze across the sky, raise the banners high
It is Independence Day!!!

Sometimes, I wanted someone to hold my hand especially when I don't understand
I question why, and it is hard to try to go about my daily living
I long for someone to wipe my tears or bring me  cheer
I force a smile when I want to frown
I most of all want someone around to listen
I very recently found out of friend of mine who is also a distant cousin of mine is dying from cancer, her children lost their Dad less than six months ago now this.

The Birth Of A Poem
Ann M Johnson Jul 2014
It starts with an idea, thus it is conceived
It grows over time, forming line after line
It consists of nouns, verbs, adjectives
It sometimes takes minutes or hours, or days ,or years
to fully form, It can be laborious starting with a rough draft
at times several papers pile up in the trash
It can consist of similes and metaphors, or take a short story form
It grows more until it is complete, thus the poem is born, after it arrives like a proud parent you look at the poem and declare it is good and ready to share

The poem can be personified, it can touch human emotion it can invoke sadness  and or happiness or at times touch our funny bone or remind us of a past romance, or the good old days

In the end the effort can be worthwhile especially if it can produce a smile

Garden
Ann M Johnson Jun 2014
I think I want to plant a garden in life
I want to start with beans: Beaning helpful, Beaning kind
Beaning thoughtful, I hope you don't mind
This Garden, I plan to share and you can join me if you care

Keep  in mind we need to ****: **** out Anger, **** out strife, that threatens to choke out our delicate plants

Next maybe we can try some Squash, squash out prejudice
Squash out greed by helping those in need, it don't always take money to lend a helping hand, just lend a listening ear or any special way only you can, and perhaps we will all grow in a more peaceful land

Maybe if we call work together it will tomato to many people and they too will help us plant this garden and don't forget the water which joins us a together in this garden of life and the water is Love,
I hope to meet you in the garden, there is always room for more understanding and together we can discover what great things the garden can bring
# life # garden # love # peaceful # friendship

Letter To Heaven
Ann M Johnson Jun 2014
Dear Dad,
I did not forget Father's Day, or forget you
I miss you and the things you would do such as telling us your children
to stack up all the chairs and that you would take off your shoes and jump over them, we quickly stacked up the chairs expectantly waiting for you to jump over the chairs but much to our surprise you took off your shoes and jumped over them
I miss how you would tell people that you did not know, when they asked that how many children you had, you would say 3 and a Half Dozen and when their jaw would drop in surprise , you would explain
3 and a Half Dozen, 3 girls and a half dozen boys
I still don't know how you did it Dad caring for so many kids and so much noise from all the girls and boys and running a farm too
I don't think I ever thanked you enough
Dear Dad, life has been so rough without you, soon before you passed away and you were on your death bed, my sister, said that you were hanging on needing to know that I would be Ok, Dad, I tried to be strong when I told you I would be Ok.
I felt like I lied, and I can not even count the amount of times I've cried
since you have died, I feel like a piece of my heart did depart with you!
I still try to be strong and hold onto cherished memory's like how you would look at my little girl, with a proud look in your eye's and there was no hiding the grin on your face.
Dad no one could ever take your  place
I miss you and my little girl, now a teen, she still remembers and misses you too. You would be so proud  of her, I know I am.
Dad, I Love You!
PS.I hope this letter reaches you via: special delivery, maybe an Angel will hand it to you.
I still miss my Dad he died in 2005 from Parkinson's and a heart condition
(belated Father's Day )

Does A Name Define You?
Ann M Johnson Jun 2014
I recently went on a website House Of Names.Com
I discovered that my maiden name means Spindle
I don't think it defines me ,my sisters have inherited
the sewing gene not me.
In Home  EC.  in high school I got my finger stuck in
the needle, I did not fall asleep and get woken up by a prince
I instead got make fun of by my teacher and peers alike
When I made  a mistake and used a seem ripper, I ripped the material
Worse of all I was new at sewing and I was given the project of making a sweatshirt with ribbing, and the teacher Exclaimed, " I thought I would you something that was challenging, but I didn't know you had no talent", in front of the whole class, that really hurt and discovering what my name means, has brought up bad memories for me. On the plus side ,though I can sew on a button by hand, beyond that I prefer to delegate the responsibility of sewing to someone else. What's in a Name? I ask you? what does your name mean?
Does it define you or not?
As far as I'm concerned I want to be defined by other things besides my name, if other people don't like it, I say sew what!
Hi, it has been a stressful week, sorry if I'm venting, it was a neat site though and it is nice to learn what certain names mean. I am curious to know what your names mean my Hello Poetry if you wish to share.

Meaningless
Ann M Johnson Jun 2014
Two steps forward ten steps back, maybe more and I lost track
What am I working toward, I am swimming in this sea of debt
What is the purpose. did I forget it seems meaningless
I seem to be chasing the wind which I can not catch
I know it might be just a rough patch, but it feels like a door without
a latch, making me feel unsecure
I feel like I'm in quicksand, not on solid ground
Why do I work so hard, is it only to pay the bills
If so it gives me the chills
It sure is a test of my will
Do I labor in vain, all this worry might drive me insane
It all seems meaningless like trying to catch the wind

The Value Of True Friends
Ann M Johnson Jun 2014
The value of true friends are to be treasured
Their value can not be accurately measured
They are uniquely special
They are more valuable than diamonds and more precious
than rubies
They stick by you no matter what .you are going through
If they die their value lives on, in the memories that were shared
and of how they cared and the love that was expressed there
They live on in our hearts and minds
They are worth more than Gold
They are a treasure that our hearts hold, for eternity
I originally wrote this when I was a teenager after losing my Best friend due to a car accident

I need to appreciate all the beauty that can be found, and peace will flow abundantly

The Crooner
Ann M Johnson Apr 2014
One night during a full moon a young crooner sang a Sinatra tune
He sang it expertly and flawlessly, he got the attention of everyone,
but especially noticed by one handsome old gentleman
The song transported him to another time and in another land
were he took her hand and proposed to the Love of his life
to this very same tune in the Month of June
He recently had been depressed after having lost is wife in the fall,
after tears ran down his face the young Crooner apologized for making
him cry
The Old man said, Thank You for making me cry you reminded me of
the best times in my life with my wife, and that song started it all
The young Crooner felt touched and said, I am glad that I say that tune
The Old man smiled and said I am glad too!
This poem came to me after I listened to some old songs.
Some old singers had incredible voices.
I would like to know your favorite ones
