"norms" poems
As insecure toddlers, we were often told by our parents that inner beauty is more important than outer beauty. This is how they were able to instill in us the confidence we may have today, whenever we represent ourselves in front of other people. However, this is something I find to be quite inaccurate.  If you ask a random person about what they find beautiful and attractive, most of them would probably begin to describe a person’s physical attributes than the internal attributes. Beauty is defined to be the perfect balance and harmony with nature, which may lead to feelings of attraction and emotional well-being. Since the attraction is subjective, the term “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” takes place. Many individuals would like to believe that looks are never important, and that judgments should be based on a person’s internal well-being instead of its outer counterparts. In our modern society, external beauty is more favorable since everything becomes more convenient, than when you only have internal beauty. People will always see your external beauty the moment they see you and not that beautiful mind and soul of yours, and that’s what makes them attracted to you. Just like with expensive cars, the moment a car is put into the market, the consumer who will buy them would first look at their exterior first before they would look for its driving ability; no matter how good its performance may be, these people would always look at its exterior. Also, external beauty can help you be successful, it can land you jobs, earn more money, and help you be treated with more respect by strangers than those with internal beauty. The preference for external beauty than internal beauty is what is wrong in our current society. We live up to the evolved norms of society that we have started to grow backwards. Outer beauty fades, and no matter how beautiful you are on the outside, once people get to know you, you’d be nothing but a simple less attractive human being than you once were. I would leave a wonderful quote here written by a great author: “A tree may look as beautiful as ever; but when you notice the insects infesting it, and the tips of the branches that are brown from disease, even the trunk seems to lose some of its magnificence.”

Why is outer beauty seen to be more attractive than inner beauty?
As insecure toddlers, we were often told by our parents that inner beauty is more important than outer beauty. You don’t need to try so hard. You can wear the clothes you want. Do whatever you please, Express yourself the way you know how. You can wear those heels Just because you love them. Your true friends will accept you And all your little quirks. It’s time to let it go, Let go of all your fears of judgement. Stop caring what people think of you, It’s none of your business anyways. You are who are for a reason. You’re crazy, eclectic, A miss independent and a little rebellious. You like to defy the norms of society So why aren’t you doing it? Let go of all those rules and make your own. You’ve always stood for the outcasts, Paving your own path, Cutting the trees blocking your way. Why care now about fitting in When you’re a shining gem? You were born to lead, to conquer. This is your destiny, you’ve always worn Your individuality just like a badge. Don’t become submissive, Stop looking for approval, You won’t find it anywhere But inside of yourself. It’s the self-acceptance that comes first, There’s no better friend than you. Go on, look in the mirror. Remember, you better like who you are, That is the person you’ll be stuck with For the rest of your life. Enjoy all the strangeness, All the weird parts of your personality. There’s no refunds, no exchanges. You are who you are and that Is perfection; no matter what anyone says. Accept who you are now, Accept all the growth to come. You can accomplish even your Wildest dreams, those shooting stars. It’s time to just be, Time to stop leaning on societies Ideals and march on out With head held up high. Self acceptance is all you need.

your witty remarks and hearty jokes aren't very funny i thought i'd tell you before things got out of hand i don't appreciate you calling me *"sweetheart" "baby"* or "darling" you are no one to me and those nicknames are reserved for those who actually know how to treat me as a human not a plaything just because i was born a certain gender does not give you the right to feel like you have the right to call me what you want and treat me as you please my ****** (yes, i spoke the forbidden, sue me) does not make me better or more than any other human with any other *** organs so next time you're about to open that big mouth of yours or put your arm around my shoulders or wink at me you'd better think twice i'm using my words nicely but i'm not always going to be so nice unlike what you said earlier i'm not overreacting this is a natural response to everyday sexism and just because society has become used to it adapted to it accepted it does not mean i will give in or give up or ever conform to these downright disgusting norms i am a woman that does not make me inferior to those of other genders nor am i superior to anyone well... except, maybe, you

Can you feel all the suffering, can you see it? Stop embracing the hate of your own humanity, just quit it Why all the hypocrisy? Challenge your democracy Aim for enlightenment Fight against all ill torment Oppression, alienation, inequality The government's manipulative utilities Explore your human aptitude Your mind and your magnitude Because passion is power and You can make all evil cower Work to open your third eye Don't cry or comply, but rather ask "why?" Empathy and compassion are most important Without them, moral principles remain impotent Our world is nothing compared to the entire universe We are so small, egoistic, and it's getting worse Focused on all of the wrongs ideals Creating terrible and false ordeals Our world is cruel and mean Too many people die hungry There's no such thing as equality or true justice It does not exist in this realm of consciousness If only we could shift the system and our ways Then things would continue to fall into place But change is virtually unachievable Especially when entities with just intents are inconceivable Human beings are clueless, trapped in a trance Don't let yourself fall victim to your ignorance You need to expand your knowledge and your perspective Aim to be more pensive and introspective Challenge absolutely everything you are told Form your own beliefs, don't let your mind be controlled Remove yourself from conformity and complacency And you'll realize a multitude of problems, that I guarantee *You can't trust anything
 Hear what I'm saying
 No you cant trust anything
Believing is damaging
Creating is everything, it's promising Stop adhering to societal norms
 Why do you conform
 To all that
 The government tells us
All that society spells for us Why don't you realize
Wake up from all the lies
The world is an intricate place, that you can't replace
But you can change your ways and your pace
Create some displacement in the system Stand up your rights
 And what you believe in
 Be genuine
Imagine
Not one person, thing, or system
Can tell us, control us, conform us* With enough minds open and motivated We can help those oppressed and alienated We can change this race for the better Let's all work to be that kind of trendsetter Come on, let's start a movement So we can see some real improvement In our world, our ways, and our wisdom But most importantly in the system

The Kingdom of Morocco has a rugged mountain interior which reminds me of the British meal of mince and potatoes. But hold that thought, and examine our seemingly superior Western legislation. Just like the pickle, the dynasty of death is a brazen festival percussionist who is celebratory in her bitter and gustatory inevitability. Jizyah is that taxation which is imposed upon those who fail to conform to those expected societal norms. Although we have the status quo, one cannot help but wonder what happened to the rectitudes of individuality and paradoxical equality? So, where do we go, oh navigator of the great and mighty West? Marrakech or Rabat? I have no concrete awareness of where solace is to be found. I am lost! Therefore, I can only offer the following direction: Contemplate the ever-changing intricacy of the dunes in anthropological amazement and acknowledge the sky at night. Allow the celestial pole of the North Star to speak to your deep uncertainty. Our purpose is openly displayed if we simply open our heart in the midst of our Bedouin oasis. That, my friend, is the essence of being psychosocial.

The process of becoming other than,   the shedding of the old by way of time   the hands upon the clock traverse their span,   the ever fleeting moment reigns, sublime. The emptiness of all objective forms,   the rushing river, never stepped in twice,   the reconfiguration of all norms,   the virtues of lost ages seen as vice, The elements converge and then react,   the caterpillars weave themselves cocoons,   the world amends its stock of gathered facts,   the moths emerge, in flight to greet the moon,       The firmament, destroyed and rearranged,      the universal essence, found in change.

Metamorphosis
Lead us, Evolution, lead us Up the future's endless stair; Chop us, change us, **** us, **** us. For stagnation is despair: Groping, guessing, yet progressing, Lead us nobody knows where. Wrong or justice, joy or sorrow, In the present what are they while there's always jam-tomorrow, While we tread the onward way? Never knowing where we're going, We can never go astray. To whatever variation Our posterity may turn Hairy, squashy, or crustacean, Bulbous-eyed or square of stern, Tusked or toothless, mild or ruthless, Towards that unknown god we yearn. Ask not if it's god or devil, Brethren, lest your words imply Static norms of good and evil (As in Plato) throned on high; Such scholastic, inelastic, Abstract yardsticks we deny. Far too long have sages vainly Glossed great Nature's simple text; He who runs can read it plainly, 'Goodness = what comes next.' By evolving, Life is solving All the questions we perplexed. Oh then! Value means survival- Value. If our progeny Spreads and spawns and licks each rival, That will prove its deity (Far from pleasant, by our present, Standards, though it may well be).

Evolutionary Hymn
A: Do you think I owe you my body because you are nice to me? B: Yes. A: Do you think of me just as a boy/girl toy that you can do with as you please. B: Only when I'm ***** A: You expect I'll **** you after I found out how many people you've had. B: I don't expect anything, but you probably will. Stop pretending you don't want pussy(or **** just because of social norms, I've had both (quite a lot) and here's the trick: DON'T ******* CONFORM!

About humans
If you weren't dark skin you'd blush, You and your pleasantly "spring" demeanor, blooming smiles in secret inside your hazmat suit, from any type of feelings, you are already infected, -- and contagious, yet refuse to admit the goosebumps on your neck, without the fortunate luxury of showing your emotion society has deemed you timeless, an eloquent flagrant aroma, the definition of fine wine with a zest -- a spiciness of an impatient "summer", you are warm, and the stem of your smiles comes with thorns of poison, weapons of mass destruction, so you're cloaked, tucked away from societal norms, and expectations --  who are we to judge, you are correct, your skin, is the right tone, to grab the attention for all the unwelcome, literal and figuratively baring a cluster of ideas, wants, desires -- requested by only the elite, pasteurized and preserved until then.

(daughter of Egyptian Goddess Sekhmet) the un-Suppression of the Black Woman pt.1
I can be you, or I can be them I can be she, or I can be him but why be a con artist of someone else like a shadow to my best friend, when I can be my own person, a unique creation created in the image of God but representin my own reflection because I don't wanna see you, them, she, or him in the mirror I wanna see me through my own eyes, 20/20 vision, but clearer but the more I conform, the image of someone else draws nearer and I begin to lose sight of myself, look back in the mirror, and see myself in the rear a shadow to another figure, a copy of a personality livin' out another person's dreamed out reality copying what they think, and succumbing to conformity but that ain't me.... what you see visually and how I appear physically is what makes me comfortable, that's why I'm an independent, politically I don't follow the norms and rules of what's most accepted socially the only commandments I live by are the ones given Biblically I ain't  the best saint though, I mean I do sin every day but the only one I wanna copy is Jesus Christ, in every possible way on the other hand, Satan is out there, trynna tempt me on how to act and even what words I say he's out offering me drinks, but I reply, "I'm okay" cause I don't care if "everyone else is doin' it" I just live how I like to live, that's what makes me a true non-conformist I dress how I wish and not because it's in style I keep my hair big, I do whatever makes me smile I'm not trynna impress you or fit into your clique I don't give women pick-up lines and act like I'm slick I'm me, just me, no facades, just real and if you can't accept that, then move forward but don't steal the things that make me special, from my poems to my appeal so don't try to change me and keep my uniqueness concealed I could care less about your thoughts and any of your judgements I refuse to give your words power, I can make your points become pointless I'm not trynna be harsh, I just love to be different I wanna be an original and keep my vibe realistic not a second you, but a first me, no counterfeit I try to keep up with what God said in Matt 26 verse 41, the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak so pray not to give into temptation and stay on your feet I encourage us to keep our standards and what makes us unique and accept anyone else who doesn't wanna repeat everything you say, and everything you do sometimes it's the people that are different that come off the most true because they're not sayin or actin' in ways that you approve they're given you their honest opinion, you should keep them closest to you don't conform, forget what people want you to be just be yourself, not a copy of reality TV.

CLICHE, CLICHE, CLICHE.
When you were a young child, you wore your naive head in the clouds. The vastness of space was your limit, there were no social norms to worry about. Growing up they told you, you should pretend that you don't care, so when your hopes would get devastated, disappointment could give you a spare. And now you find yourself wondering: when did I stop following my ambition? The thing you regret most when you die, is your passion's creeping omission. Besides, how can you ever win a game, that out of fear you did not participate in? Without your dreams you're a soulless ghost, like a concaved snake's skin. If only you're bold enough to walk your own path, alienated and without an established map. You will soon realize that your passion's just waiting, for your courage to close the gap.

Izaak is an introvert Izaak likes his room and board exactly as it is, so that he isn’t bored Quiet in his apartment, just as he was in his dorm But soon his people started telling him, more and more That he needs to get out more That he needed to go out an explore Just in case he ever should look back and wonder What exactly it was, like if he wanted more? And so he tried and so he went, out into the world He spoke and socialized He brought, and bought and spent until he himself felt very spent and worn Because Izaak is an introvert, and for the outside he wasn’t meant to be Let alone to be reborn, and so After all the stretching, the social pains, the growing norms, which were not wrong Just different, he was both different, and the same And in his room, he was welcomed him back Once again, to the walls of printed ink and paint which he himself did create Because Izaak, did indeed need to see the differences within his own eyes But only in time to better understand and represent The quiet life which he was meant to lead, inside Because Izaak is an introvert And no introverted thing is ever truly a waste of time

The Introvert
To have an epiphany. To realize ‘wow, this is it.’ To see that not everyone has the same heart as you do. As humans, regardless of whether christian, Muslim, Jew or any other religion, we are predisposed to believe the idea that we should treat others the way we want to be treated and that by norms, if we are kind, we should expect kindness in return. But no one actually talks about how rarely, if ever, that happens. In life there is always a garden and a gardener but people haven’t learned yet to take turns and balance out that compliment. A gardener takes care of a garden for decades until one day, they turn frail and die. And the garden will either be tended to by another gardener or will wither away. The world is so full of harsh realities that are hidden. To say that there are only a few genuine people is completely and utterly wrong. For every person there are only a few genuine people. That is correct, so in that sense, yes there are only a few genuine people but in the world there are many of them. These genuine people become involved in a persons life one day and their intentions are undeniably pure. They give and give and give, and that’s the reason that every person only gets a few genuine people; no one realizes who the genuine people are around them, or if they do then they simply dont care enough to think, this person has only tried for me for so long, and I feel warmth in my heart because no one else tried like that. -c.j.m

I yearn to be an outsider. To stray from society... All in order to be Who I'm truly Created to be I'm willing to face inner and outer adversity All in the name of freedom Judge me Ridicule me I care not, for I yearn to be Everything I was created for Living life purposefully Breaking societal norms I care not for the path created by The government But rather live happily Fruitfully In accordance to Who I am created to be. Chance is being in the right place at the right time, coinciding with the orbit of another searching the aspirations that you to seek. A connection needs attention, a compliment, a smile, an enquiry of mutual interest that engages instantly. The abdication of convenient norms, a shift in behaviour, adopting a new travel direction. It requires no discrimination, but an open welcoming mind, conjoining parallel convergence, Meeting. © Pagan Paul (2018)

I observe your flaws Thought I wanted perfect after all the dysfunction But perfect is ugliness I now know Embrace the scars, weaknesses and out of the norms I love to see them, see you as human Brought back down to earth But you're still in the clouds Still bright shining Saviour Guidance Goodness Still perfect but not all the way through & that's just the way I love you.

I am a woman , I should be timid - They say I am a human , I know no limit  - I say, My existence is not meant for your judgment Crushing me is not a sign of your triumphant, My love for you has always been abundant Why am I the one to make all the adjustments, Look into my eyes , you'll see a twinkle Savaging it , is so sinful, My demand for freedom makes you reluctant Clothed in societal norms , I have to bear its repercussion, How are the governing laws so different for Both What makes you so nervous of my growth, Why do I have to fight for what is my right Why do you enjoy my plight, Being submissive is declared my attire No one hears what my heart desires, I am not the one to dance on your note I am a volcano that erupts on my own, I don't demand anything extraordinary All I seek is equality, Equality to Breathe without fear Equality to be safe my dear!!!!!

I am a Woman
A Child trapped in flesh and bones A Child chained in lies, bound by norms, trapped in a civilisation. A child chained in expectations, bound by culture, trapped in a society. A child Consumed by fear, brianwashed and programmed, trapped in flesh and bones. A child peeking through a window waiting to be free! waiting to be, just A child.

A Child.
Diminutive in frame and stature defines him not, but instead enhances the brilliance of his smile’s shine. The golden flakes of honesty in his warm brown eyes covey one vice that is captivation. They hold hostage your most destructive thoughts to instantaneously replace them with the best; of joy, contentment, and love-the best of him. His high cheek bones define a mouth so perfectly constructed. They rise and fall like oceans’ waves with every gentle gesture. He thinks of love as a pool of chances and illogically he dives into the hurt he’s found himself in once twice, no wait, three times. But still, he never falters to give “chance” just one more chance to prove he’s done what’s right. Secondary comes his needs, in light of someone else’s. The thoughts, “too tired” or “too busy” does nothing for him because if someone needs help, you help them undoubtedly. I  have seen the coat that once cascaded on his back give warmth to one who had no coat or smile or joy or light. And for that one he lowered his head to ask God for a favor. I met this guy, this “perfect” guy when innocence consumed me and since that day we’ve been each other’s confidant and comforter. My love towards him supersedes that of a friend or the best of that. The truest thing I know is that when everyone one else disappears to the mundane norms of life, he will be there with me to cut through the silence with rolls of laughter. At what? It does not matter. Because when I’m with him and he’s with me there is a “we” that is formed and that “we” is captivates me An infinite truth is that I will never stop loving this young man. He keeps my heartbeat steady so I must exclaim the best of joy, contentment, and love-the best of him.

If Only He Knew...
