Hold Me
Come lay beside me
Hold me for awhile
Wrap me gently in your arms
Touch me with your smile

Come and close your pretty eyes
Let’s just drift away
Hold me tightly in your sleep
I am here to stay

When you finally wake
I’ll be holding you
Wipe the dreams from your eyes
Just hold on to what is true

Words and Feelings
It’s not over, I’ve got paper and ink
I’m not done with what I think
A thought for the moment, here in time
A word for the page, all in rhyme

Drifting, my mind picks a spot
Telling it all, everything I’ve got
Wouldn’t try and change it
Didn’t try to rearrange it

These things just happen to me
Once a thought, my pen makes me see
Twisting and turning, inside my mind
Words and feelings only I can find

More than Words
CE Uptain Sep 20
Love is more than words,
there may be tears
Love isn’t done in one night,
you work on it for years
It’s the little things you do,
to let them know you care
The hugs and the kisses,
locking eyes with loving stares
It may bring hard times,
when you only have each other
There will be the joy,
of knowing there is no other
Love is a flame,
you can’t let it go cold
You keep the spark alive,
so it never gets old
Love is those memories,
the kisses and the nights
It is two lives brought together,
bells, whistles, and flashing lights
Love is everything,
the journey may bring
The everlasting promise,
beyond the diamond ring
Make love in your heart,
for the one you love every day
Take the time, live your dreams,
so that love will always stay

Wish I was Ten
CE Uptain Sep 19
My paper is running short
I’ve got time for a short one:

Once upon a time way back when I was ten
I had a dream, what a wonderful life
But I couldn’t wait, I got older quick
Learned to drive and how to kiss girls
Then one came along and stole my heart
put me in love for the rest of my life
We did it all, the house, the kids, the dogs
took it all in, that’s what we did
the good, the bad, love, pain and family
Now here we are, all to ourselves
right where our parents left off
looking back then and seeing it all
took our chances, we did some things
our time is now; we try to keep going
**** I wish I was ten

Only a Heart can See
CE Uptain Sep 19
I’ve got a pen
With miles of ink
More than I have
Things to think

Long distance, operator calls
I’m holding the line
Pen in hand
Writing rhyme to rhyme

You don’t know me
The cynic I am
Rolling all wide open
I don’t give a ****

Here it is, the truth beholds
You’re no different than me
Looking for all those things
Only a heart can see

Love is the Rhythm
CE Uptain Sep 18
It doesn’t matter If I play the wrong song
Moments fade, memories last too long
That’s the wrong beat, so I can’t dance
It’s just too fast for good romance

Slow it down, let it beat like a heart
A one and a two, accent on the start
Wham two three, wham two three
Your heart beats the best of me

Love is the rhythm in a heartbeat
It drives the soul, there’s no retreat
Primal and deep, down to the core
Everlasting, ever yearning, pounding for more

One of my latest love poems. I'm a hopeful romantic.

Ink Smears
CE Uptain Sep 15
No one can hear me
I use soft lead
It’s not what I wrote
But what you have read

Get past the lines, into the spaces
Truth and love, my pen always chases
How about this, what if I were to say
All of the things that make me feel this way

Any verse, now they’re all the same
What is up with that, what’s in a name
No one left but my pen and I
Ink smears when I start to cry

A Moment in Love
CE Uptain Sep 14
I can see the moment
My heart first saw you
It only took a second
To know that it was true

From that very moment
Love would join two hearts
Only in that moment
Life would join to parts

One part is yours and one is mine
The shortest distance between, a straight line
Straight to your heart, that’s all I can see
Loving in you, what I’m feeling in me

Love happens quick.

Ways to be Smart
CE Uptain Sep 12
There’s a lot of ways to be smart
Crafty smart, turning garbage into what passes for art
You can read some books and know it all
Be ready and smart when you hear your life call

Smart enough to come in out of the rain
So smart you drive everyone and yourself insane
You can dress smart, knowing just what to wear
Color coordinate your outfit with your underwear

Learning makes you smarter if you open your mind
People smarts help you be loving and kind
Smart enough to figure it out, how to get things done
Commonsense, well now that’s the smartest one
For all the smart people out there. LOL

Catch My Heart
CE Uptain Sep 12
You throw your heart at the world
It throws it back like a girl
It comes up short as it hits the ground
You pick it up and can tell that it’s been around

One more time you throw it out again
One more time you hope you win
Just once more is all you need
It comes with pain, but you don’t have to bleed

Catch my heart as it is falling
Here me now as I am calling
I am one you will see
All in time I will set you free

Catch my heart, let me hold on tight
Hold me close make it feel so right
Don’t let me stand alone
Catch my heart, I’m throwing it home

One Candle Power
CE Uptain Sep 6
There’s a candle in the window, shining through the night
It burns with the eternal flame and its everlasting light
There is one candle in the window, for each of us to see
One candle power, to show the strength in you and me
One flame dancing, lightly as the cold winds blow
One heart holds its light, and it shows where to go
Keep that one flame burning, glowing with its light
Knowing it holds the key, to seeing what is right
Though the night surrounds the light, tempering its flame
It is the darkness of night, that one candle puts to shame
Shining ever brightly, against the pitch-dark night
Glowing for you to see, there’s always one candlelight
The darkness will forsake you, lead you from your way
It can turn your heart from the light, in the bright of the day
It is ever tempting, as it sits outside your windowpane
Believe in that light, it shows darkness offers no gain
One candle in the window is all we ever need to know
One candle power, that lights the way we must each go
One flame dancing lightly, as the cold winds blow
One heart holds its light, and it shows where to go

Beneath the Moon
CE Uptain Sep 3
Another day afternoon
Long shadows will be creeping soon
We are all shadows beneath the moon

Lonely light fills the sky
Darkness hangs in the bye and bye
Stars shine like little eyes

Through the shadows for all to see

Save the daylight to be free

Learned in Life
CE Uptain Sep 3
I learned to be non-confrontational
What good does it do to argue
The truth stands when lies fall
Open minds see clearly

I learned the hard way
A job will wear you down
Hard work can easily go wrong
One ah-**** wipes out an atta boy

What makes you happy
Make sure it’s true in you
It’s too hard to share a dream
Find love together

Head in the Clouds
CE Uptain Aug 27
Can’t catch the birds when they fly so high
You can’t see the world with tears in your eyes
You have to put your feet on the ground
To get your head in the clouds to look around
And you will never know unless you try

Now you might think you are above it all
Just before you take that call
But when you pick it up and say hello
You’ll be the one that has to go
And there will be no time left to stall

Right about then you’ll see the flashing lights
You can forget about all those lonely nights
You’ll be left with all you got
What you have and what you have not
And there will nobody cheering on your fights

When it’s all been said and done
You won’t be having any fun
You won’t get a second chance
You’ll be the victim of your own circumstance
And suddenly you’ll find out you’re not the one

When you finally come to realize
You’re seen through someone else’s eyes
You’re never as good as you thought
Can’t get to Heaven with what you bought
And you’re going to have to pay for all those lies

You’ll have to do some real explaining
Stop whining and stop complaining
Tell the truth to be forgiven
Admit the sins you’ve been living
And after that, in the Heavens will you remain

Leftover Hippies
CE Uptain Aug 23
Leftover hippies are not as trippy
except for when they flashback
Too old to get high, memories in smoke
can’t snort any more crack

They’ve been out there
where everything looks real
Tied-dye moons with pink stars
monsters made out if steel

Remember the pusher man
summer of love, 1967
All the grass and pills you need
Enough drugs to get high up in heaven

Mr. Natural and some Boone’s Farm wine
That’s how they kissed the sun
All the peace and love they felt
We are brothers, everyone
Maybe I'm having a flashback.

Think about the hubba-hubba
Dancing on the sheets
Clean sheets lose grip
Quickly find my sock it to her cleats

Digging in, trying to reach the bottom
Only to just scruff up the sides
Even after all that pumping and *******
And the candy-apple moustache rides

My gun is old, it only shoots once
Foreplay is like my favorite thing
When it’s serious business, I like to play
I can do everything without getting in

I like it when we both finish strong
I did it all, like in my wildest dream
Hold on tight for one more minute
Oh, wait, I just creamed

P.S. this piece is still kind of raw
I should have used some slick words

Just trying to roll with the tide
Catching waves to the shore
Sandy beaches made for love
Every grain wanting more

When life is in a hurry
You need to learn to chill
Maybe take a drink or smoke
Get some kind of high-naked thrill

Life is good, you just don’t know it
Study up on what you’ve really got
Practice what your soul will breach
Talk about the righteous, those that have not

Karma and comeuppance, they like to dance

I’m a working man, I’m licensed
Working with all three of my vices
Ones got a grip, the other a squeeze
That last one gets me down to my knees

At 14 I learned to like the buzz
Trip out wildly, watch out for the fuzz
I never shot up, only smoked and blew my nose
Forget all the highs, felt all the lows

Now I know better, what can I say
All the things I let make me that way
Should’ve known back then it was a mistake
Remember that when you dance at my wake

Googled a bit, man I feel smarter
Spray can painting, operation of a lumber yarder
It showed everything, from shopping to the Walmart farter
How to be you, where to use cream of tarter

Google is so smart, it always answers back
Even us old folks don’t mind giving it a wack
Once we learn to point and click enough
We can actually remember a whole lots of stuff

Google got pictures, more shopping and life advice
All at our fingertips, isn’t that so nice
If you don’t get it, you can always ask twice
AI tightens its grip, now we’re in a smart vice

Google me this and search for all that
Sit in your chair and research why your fat
Learn to tie your shoes, how to wear a hat
Check out funny videos of some **** cat

Google didn’t help Papa talk to his friends
He didn’t need cell phones, dots and dashes he sends
Mamaw never used it to know how to make ends
Now we just all believe, whatever posts then trends

p.s. I” HAVE TO” use it all the time, that’s why I can write (*****) about it.

Poetry calms the savage beast
That’s what they say, to say the least

Rage against the world, or whatever I can find
Sometimes my rage comes out on a page.

Thankin’

Hum…. this page is blank
Wonder what I’m supposed to thank
No not thank you, what I’m thankin’ about
Thankin’ what makes me mad, makes me shout
Scrambled eggs and brains, that’s what people eat
No brains, I’ll guess I’ll put my point on repeat
I’m thankin’ hard, mind is charging double overtime
That’s a high price to pay for just a simple rhyme
Still working off my new pad.
CE Uptain Jul 29
I can’t keep up with my muse’s ****
My write hand is dragging, like a catcher’s mitt
In such a hurry, trying to catch everything
You never know, my muse may make me sing

Words abound, no truth in any I’ve found
Still the words, they circle back around
Did they find my roots, am I buried that deep
The cold, dark ground, holds my secrets to keep

Wait just a minute muse, you’re going too fast
You have to slow down to make the pages last
Capture my heart, blurred between the lines
Uncover my soul, it’s inside these rhymes

When this Rock is Over
CE Uptain Jul 27
Riding this rock, that just won’t stop spinning
Fighting a battle, nobody will be winning
No need to worry, we don’t fight alone
There’s about a zillion of us, calling it home
We fight each other, while our nations fight more
It’s all over the news, with the blood and the gore
This place is getting warmer, no matter what we do
Soon it’s going to be hot, too hot for me and you
There will be nowhere to go, no place to hide
We can’t make it stop, we’re all on this ride
We can’t get off, at least not without dying
We try to save ourselves; let nature do the crying
Rivers run dry, they flow yellow, green, and black
When this rock is over, so is time, and that’s a fact
This is my latest worldly rant.

Mamaw and Papa Said
CE Uptain Jul 22
Mamaw said there’s no one like family
She said just live and let live
Mamaw said you can’t be who you are not
She said just give it all you got

Papa said that a train goes over the mountain
He said the stars ain’t made for counting
Papa said you got to know what burns inside of you
He said you got to know what makes your sky blue

I’ve seen life and the stars burning bright
I’ve seen the cold of a dark and lonely night
I’ve held a memory until I was fast asleep
I’ve said a prayer; hope my soul to keep

Mamaw said there was life in the ever after
She said this life should be full of laughter
Mamaw said hard times make you stronger
She said be tough; you’ll live a little longer

Papa said you cannot be forsaken
He said your dreams are for the taking
Papa said you got to give everything your all
He said you got to listen to hear the call

I’ve seen troubles and dreams so hard to reach
I’ve seen the lessons a hard life can teach
I’ve seen the faith, the glory and the power
I will see it again in my moments of the final hour
In my computer room I have a lot of old family photos and mementos. This one is on the wall with some pictures. Enjoy.

Paper Hearts
CE Uptain Jul 22
I’ve got a paper heart and a rock hard brain
It’s hard as any stone; harder that any pain
Now, my paper heart; it bleeds quite well
Look through my eyes and you can surely tell

Love is a tragedy; it’s all systems fail
All that’s good and right, all that’s what the hell
Paper hearts can’t crush a mind of stone
Paper hearts, they only cry when they’re alone

The paper folds quite easily; in the creases you will see
All there is to find and all there will ever be
Solid ground is where you like to run around
And here you are in the lost and found

Paper hearts and rock hard brains
Harder that the hardest pains
Paper hearts with your creases deep
Which of my secrets will you forever keep
This one is from one of my love poem collections.

A Pleasured Mind

A body loves a pleasured mind
Let’s see what pleasures we can find
One more “let me hold you tight”
One more time to get it right

A body loved and a pleasured mind
Not one feeling left behind
One more “can I kiss you again”
One more “until you say when”

A body loves a pleasured mind
I love you with all I can find
One more “don’t ever let me go”
One more “don’t ever say no”
Thanks, this one was a pleasure to write.

Sunshine on the waterline always seems to ease my mind
Gentle breeze and the drifting clouds, far away from any crowds
Sunshine warm on my face, I can’t think of a better place
Rolling waves and the sunset still are the only things I feel
Sunset brings out the nighttime sky, starlight shines as time goes by
Nighttime fades to the new sunrise, silence breaks with morning birds’ cry
Sunshine on the waterline always seems to ease my mind
Let sky stay blue and my heart be true, I want to spend my time with you
I don’t need anybody except what I’ve got, I just need a little, not a lot
Just give me sunshine on the waterline, set me free to ease my mind
Dedicated to my Dad. He had a place on the river called Homeport. It was so cool.
