You work all things for the good of those who love you. You don't waste anything Lord: there is nothing that you won't or can't use. Suffering being chief among them. Perhaps our suffering will lead us to even more amazing graces and take us to greater unimagined places. Maybe our sufferings (at least some of them) are truly blessings in disguise and later we will see the purpose. Maybe we ask for the wrong things, maybe we aren't asking the right questions. We can't know your mind Oh Lord, but in your mercy, help us begin to understand: the reason for the suffering and the glory you have planned. In all things, help us have the right attitude and adopt a proclivity for profound gratitude. Hear us and help us Oh Lord of all to carry out this (Be)Attitude call.

Amen

There is beauty that makes my heart ache
There is beauty in every breath I take
There is beauty every time I come awake
There is a beauty so profound that it can't be fake
There is a drop of grace in every little step
There is a bit of hope in every word I write
There is a little love in every child's eyes
There is a hint of heaven in the miracle of life
There is joy that defies all reason
There is peace that passes all understanding
There is hope that burns eternally
There is love that transcends even death
There is the truth deeper than this reality
There is the way which brings me to life
There is the life, and it is so beautiful
And oh, how I love, this Beautiful Living!

For we were once bent down in shame
Now we bend to praise your name

Empty and open
Beautifully broken
Sweetest surrender
Holy Spirit sender
Lost are found
Last are crowned
Heavenly Bread
Keep us fed
Forever in our heart
There from the start
Aways on our mind
Hand of the divine
Sit in sacred silence
God's holy presence
In humble adoration
From this lowly station
Sing a hymn to him alone
Be blessed and find shalom
Holy Mary mother dear
To our prayer incline your ear
Hold us closely to your chest
In your arms we will find rest
Holy Queen be ever true
As we place our trust in you
To intercede on our behalf
And bring us home to Christ at last
In love and Christian charity
And full of ardent sincerity
Loving God and our neighbor
We seek the face of the creator
Hidden, yet revealed in glory
Called to be part of the story
We come empty and broken
But we leave with love beautifully spoken

Your beauty is more than a rainbow
Shines brighter than the stars in the sky
It surrounds you with a tangible glow
More powerful than to see an eagle fly
All the treasure in the world could never match
A brilliance that the sun can’t even catch
All you do and all you are
Is made with love crafted with care
We have our scars and our pain
Broken and ugly still you remain
We are beautiful in your loving eyes
Once we finally see and realize
Everything changes. A new way to see
To know, through it all, I’m still beautifully me

I may be imperfect and I fall into sin
But I learn, get up again, and it’s a win
The outside matters less that what is deep inside
He loves my heart and looks at me with pride
Here is my child my beautiful work of art
Crafted carefully by hand every single part
No being can fathom no mind comprehend
The beauty in creation causing the soul to ascend

By dying on the cross He erased our sins
By coming to life He makes new life begin
We see Him on the cross and it brings a tear to my eye
He could have chosen other things and yet… He CHOSE to die!

CHORUS: There is Beauty in the Ultimate Sacrifice
Holding out his arms He’s welcoming the price
With wide open arms He says “I love you”
With a caring heart He says “I do”
With an open mind He welcomes us
With supporting arms He carries us

God gave us all a second chance
So out of love “Shall we dance?”
Though He died and we ask “What good can come of this?”
He saved all so rather than despair we bathe in bliss

CHORUS: There is Beauty in the Ultimate Sacrifice
Holding out his arms He’s welcoming the price
With wide open arms He says “I love you”
With a caring heart He says “I do”
With an open mind He welcomes us
With supporting arms He carries us

When we fall down He picks us back up
He fills us with His love like an overflowing cup
Now I see with open eyes and heart
“You and I were never far apart”

CHORUS: There is Beauty in the Ultimate Sacrifice
Holding out His arms welcoming the price
With open arms He says “I love you”
With a caring heart He says “I do”
With an open mind He welcomes us
In His hands He carries us

The Lord our God is a promise kept
And when He wiped us out He also wept
God sent His Only Son to die on a cross
And by rising on the third He showed satan who was boss!

CHORUS: There is Beauty in the Ultimate Sacrifice
Holding out His arms welcoming the price
With open arms He says “I love you”
With a caring heart He says “I do”
With an open mind He welcomes us
In His hands He carries us

I look up at the cross on high
And ask my God the question “Why?”
He doesn’t answer me that I can hear
But nevertheless to me my God is dear

That is Beauty in the Ultimate Sacrifice!

You say you want to be happy
You say you want to live well
You say you want to be satisfied
But you’re not I can tell
If you only had this one thing
More time, more money, more of that
But, when you do, peace it doesn’t bring
No matter what you have
It never seems to be enough
I want you to be happy
I want you to live well
I want you to be satisfied
I want to give you peace
Be content with who I am content with who you are
Be content with what you have and where you are
I am the one who can be your true happiness
I can help you see how much you are blessed
I have you right where you need to be
I have a plan a future that you don’t yet see
You worry about what lies ahead
But you miss what I’ve just said
Be okay to live in today to live right now
Things tend to work out someway somehow
Be content to stay with me
Place your hand in mine
Listen grow and learn to see the sign
Be content to walk with me
As we travel along the way
Be content to rest in me
To be silent and to pray
Lay your burden down place your troubles at my feet
Trust that I am in control I will give you what you need
Be content to sit with me
To speak not, but be still
Be content to cry with me
For I too cried upon the hill
Be content to laugh with me
To dance and sing and run
And celebrate with me when I find the lost one
Be content with me for I am more than enough
I won’t leave you when things get tough
I softly call your name in the middle of the storm
Cry out to me and I will keep you safe and warm.
When you wonder when you doubt
That there is any way out
Cling to me and you will see
The sun slowly begin to appear
You will know and you will grow
There is nothing you need to fear
Be content with me my child
Let me be enough for you

You’ve been hurt and broken I’ve been there before
Beaten, bruised, and mocked: you can’t take it any more
Stripped of possessions and dignity, feeling less than poor
I felt the nails as they were driven so deep
I knew the sorrows as my own and I would weep
I remember the long days and longer nights with no sleep
The pain you feel now, I intimately understand
I cover you with love and hold you in my hand
You can’t see it now, but I have something planned
Rest now my child. Rest in my merciful heart
Be at peace my child. And in peace healing can start
And I will mend and piece together every broken part
Run into my arms and there you can begin to heal
With my love surrounding you, begin once more to feel
Cling to me when the nightmares come back and seem so real
My love for you will never fade nor will it dim or die
And when you are overwhelmed come to me and cry
I will dry your eyes and fill you with a happy sigh
Keep your eyes on me and you will see the sun come shining through
What will come out of the storm is a better stronger you
I will see you through whatever I have brought you to
Trust in me, rest in my love oh my sweet little one
My grace in you and with you and through you has just begun
Rejoice, there is so much left to do before our work is done!

You alone Lord truly know our pain when no one else can. Too often we suffer in silence and solitude. Remind us that we are never alone. You suffered the same. May we find comfort and solace in our sharing and find the strength to carry our cross with your help. And although suffering is hard, there are blessings still in being able to help others who are hurting. When we can lift others up, we are lifted up as well. In your merciful heart and endless love, help us find peace and begin to heal from our brokenness and pain. May our hearts find the peace and refreshment that only comes from resting in Your healing heart Oh God. Amen

Be Not Afraid!

There are many times in our lives that we are worried or afraid or scared. We are constantly worrying or fretting about something: how we will do on a big exam, a strong storm, finances, safety, whether what we did is enough or not or even making a difference. We make ourselves sick with worry and spend valuable time and energy being afraid, scared or running away. God tells us often throughout the Bible "Be not afraid!" He is always reminding us that He is in control and all things are under His command. With a single word, Jesus calmed the wind and waves, and at other times he calmed his disciples! God will provide for all our needs if we pray and place our trust in Him. He doesn't always give us what we ask, but he will always give us what we need. When we can't hear him it doesn't mean that he doesn't hear us. He might be telling us "No" or "Not yet". He also might have something far bigger and better planned for us. "For I know the plans I have for you" declares the Lord, "Plans to prosper you not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future" -- Jeremiah 29: 11
In all things, let us pray to the Lord our God for peace, for courage, and for strength to face each day's fears and worries and to rely on him in everything. "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be discouraged, do not be terrified; for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go!" -- Joshua 1: 9

Lord, there are so many things that I worry and fret about every day. There are also many times that I am scared or afraid and run away like a coward. Please remind me every day Lord, that You are always with me with every breath and every step I take. Help me please and give me the peace, courage and strength I need to face what scares me, remembering always that you are by my side at all times. "God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference!" AMEN.

Lord, so often I'm looking for the next thing
Believing that, happiness, it will bring
Then I find, to my dismay, it's not true at all
And, once again, my dreams and hopes fall
I'm looking for something to call my own
I'm longing for the feeling that I'm finally home
A place where I'm truly loved and fully known
A place where I never again have to feel alone
You say you have a plan for me: I believe it is true
You tell me that you love me: I believe that you do
You say you'll be always with me: I believe this too
You ask me just to trust, and I still hold back from you
The things of this world are fast and fleeting
But you love and word are forever keeping
When the affections of earth are cruel and cold
Help me recall love's anchor to which I must hold

Lord, teach me how to be wholly satisfied
Break these bonds of selfishness and pride
You are my shepherd, there is nothing that I lack
As I cast my eyes ahead, help me not look back
My eyes are ever wand'ring
And my heart, ever restless
But as I come into your presence
I am speechless, I am breathless
I stand amazed in wonder and in awe
As I see before me the very throne of God
The angels sing and anthems ring
Shouts of praise: Hosanna to our King
Holy, Holy, Holy saturates the air
Tears fill my eyes, and I don't even care
And now, like the morning sun, it dawns:
That this is where my heart belongs
The feeling fades and yet it lingers still
By your goodness and grace, it always will

Be silent. Listen. Breathe. Easy enough to say, but much harder to put into practice. Sometimes I talk to fill a void. I talk to avoid having to feel the weight of silence like judgement, so I don't have to go down deep and see what actually lives there. Help me deal with my emotions, help me feel my emotions, especially those that are uncomfortable or unnatural to me. Be silent. Listen. Breathe. Maybe the hurts and sadness, the hungers and scars deserve to be recognized for what they are. They are part of life. The help me know and feel I am alive. They help me remember and be more grateful for the many wonderful blessings I have in my life. There is a time for talking, but now it is time To Be Silent. To Listen. To Breathe.

I am tired Lord and my thoughts drift
Incomplete and jumping one to another
I am safe and warm in your presence here
I feel my body relaxed and drifting to sleep
I will sit with eyes closed and breath deep
And pray that you would help still my mind
My heart my mind my soul find their rest
And in your abundant love I am so blessed
Let me be the one to quench your thirst
For love and souls until you burst
Let me be the one to care for you and dry your tears
Let me be your hands and feet, eyes and ears
Let me rejoice in my weakness and glory in my suffering
That I would lean on you for every single thing
Unite my heart to yours and bring me deeper still
I pour out myself so that you can enter in and fill
The missing piece the hurt deep inside
With love so deep and arms so wide
If it is your will then by your grace allow me to lead
Your children your sheep your people in need
To bring you the love and souls you so desire
With the help of the Holy Spirit to truly inspire
In Mary’s hand I place my own
To walk with her; faith is grown
The quickest way to the heart of the Son
Is through the heart of his mother
Their hearts are connected in more ways than one
The bond they share is like no other
Let me be the one for Jesus with you
And serve Him who is holy and true

No matter what, in our lives, we do
Everything is better when I work with you
He created us to be together, created us to share
In His Glory and feel his presence everywhere
On our own, we try to create a song, a work of art
It's simple and awkward, but filled with such heart
We were not supposed to go it alone
But as iron sharpens iron to help and hone
We try to do the will of God
We try to hear what He is saying
Our attempts are small and feeble at best
But he sees us and quietly he smiles and nods
He whispers in our ear "Don't stop. Keep playing"
And transforms our sad solo into a divine duet

When we find ourselves taken by bitter sorrow
When we don't know if the sun will rise tomorrow
When we drink with Jesus the cup of suffering
When we think about his blood that is covering
When we recall the seven sorrows of Mary
And how, her son's lifeless body, she would carry
Midwives used myrrh against pain in childbirth
Mary, of all women, knew how much it is worth
Her very name is from Myrrh: meaning bitter
And through it all she wasn't a quitter
It is costly and rare, signifying suffering and death
But it is also used to prepare and purify
The bodies of those who had died
She shares our sorrows, and she dries our tears
She listens and prays for us; she understands our fears
We can run to our mother and be safe in her arms
To find healing and peace away from all that harms
She knows the value of suffering
And she knows just what it cost
A gift of love transcending everything
Her son hung on a rugged cross

Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners
Now and at the hour of our death
Through our suffering, prepare our hearts and purify
That we might be an acceptable offering to God when we die
Take us back home to Heaven where we belong
When we are together, we are better; we are strong

As I take a look at some Lenten Reflections and Resources for today, there are two distinctly different reflections. One, a story that parallels what is possible with God's help and the other based on the gospel and speaking of suffering and Mary. I find a common thread to be "Better Together".

You call me to journey with you
Between the desert and the sea
Between life and death
Between darkness and light
Between desolation and consolation.
In this life I will know joy and pain
I will see fire and I will see rain
These trials, they will test me
But you, my God, have blessed me
So, I will walk with you on this journey
Between the desert and the sea.
Even in the desert you did not desert
I can see the son walk upon the sea.
I cannot see the path before me
But I trust that you know the way,
So, Lord, if you lead, I'll follow still
And, with your help, I'll listen and obey
As we walk on this great journey
Between the desert and the sea.

Beyond

Look beyond the surface to see the deeper beauty
Look beyond the act to find a sense of duty
Look beyond the words to see the message they contain
Look beyond the fear and see that I still remain
Look beyond the weakness to see the strength within
Look beyond the death to see where life begins
Look beyond the sound to feel the timeless melody
Look beyond the healing to know the one true remedy
Look beyond the noise to the inmost quiet prayer
Look beyond your helping to find out why you care
Look beyond what you see with your eyes
Look with your mind and soul and heart
Look outside and see the morning sun rise
Look and see what was there from the start
Look beyond blind hate and rage to see the time for love
Look beyond yourself and fix your eyes on things above
Look beyond the cross to see the bridge it made
Look beyond the suffering to see the cost was paid
Look beyond the body and blood to the redeeming sacrifice
Look beyond the anger and do something nice
Look beyond your own little world to find a bigger place
Look beyond apology to see forgiveness and grace

Love one another as I have loved you
I came to the world to speak the truth
Sinners all and fallen; death should be the reward
Your eternal life: proof that Jesus Christ is Lord
Justice demands retribution mercy pays the cost
Love has come to be a light for the ones who are lost
Justice doesn’t solve the problem, doesn’t make it right
It can’t heal the hurt and it’s often done in spite
Mercy forgives and mercy loves, it stops hate in its tracks
It is disarming as a weapon and confuses potential attacks
Forgive them for they know not what they do
Forgive us our sins and help us return to you
You opened your arms to take us in one and all
Quietly you knock and softly do you call
What will be our answer as we quest for peace
Beyond Justice to Mercy can the violence cease
Our vision is clouded in the heat of the moment
Help us Lord to reconcile to seek atonement
Beyond Hurt to Healing beyond Sadness to Joy
Beyond Death to New Life to create not destroy
When we try to understand we build a bridge to span
The river raging fast and wide and cross it if we can
Beyond Justice to Mercy in the Sacred Heart Of Jesus
It is with eyes of love and compassion that He sees us
In all our sin and death, still he found us worthy to save
We should cherish the undeserved gift He gave
And strive in gratitude to do the same
To forgive and to love in Jesus’ name
Beyond Justice to Mercy is the key takeaway
And we can improve if we work together and pray

Jesus is bigger: he's bigger than my foes
He's bigger than my fears; than anything I suppose
Jesus is faster: he's faster than any thought
He's faster than the devil; he simply can't be caught
Jesus is stronger: he's stronger than I am weak
He's strong enough to create when he simply speaks
Jesus is more lovely: he's more lovely than the spring
He's more lovely by far; than any other living thing
Jesus is greater: he's greater than I can fathom
He's greater than sin's separating chasm
Jesus is brighter: he's brighter than the sun
And his gift and graces will not be outdone

The bird takes flight on the wings of the morn
Uplifted; into the sky they are borne
The air is filled by their joyous song
And the earth stirs to sing along
There is nothing so great as a bird in flight
The spirit soars as hope alights
Flying free upon the vast sea of blue
To feel the wind flow past, to be renewed
I am one with the sun, the sky and breeze
Moving effortlessly through the trees
There is a kind of lightness in the soul
In these times, I am made whole

Children look around you and tell me what you see
With eyes that find divinity in every mystery
I see war and hunger, I see poverty and pain
I see millions whose lives are forever changed
I see so many nations lost and confused
I see people demoralized and abused
I see wrong and right, black and white
I see people battling a never-ending fight
But the children adopt a different world view
Where there is no division between me and you
We laugh and play and dance and sing
And, from our hearts, joy and freedom ring
We work together to help another
Because it is the right thing to do
And when we are kind, we tend to find
That doing good feels good too
I wish that, as adults, we were blessed
With the gifts to pass this great test
That we would have the open hearts of the young
And the knowledge that age has begun
I also pray for greater wisdom to better decide
And openness to the Holy Spirit as my guide

Oh, the places you'll go
All the people you'll meet
All the things you'll know
Without leaving your seat
Pull up a comfy chair
Open a book and look inside
Be transported anywhere
Come and join me on this ride
Get lost in a world apart
Visit lands near and far away
You can have fun and get smart
And you don't have to pay
Grab your passport to thrills
Romance, sci-fi, and mystery
Love, action, adventure, chills
Maybe a classic or some history
Don't judge a book by its cover
Take a look and give it a try
It may just be that you discover
It makes you laugh and cry
Like people, there are all kinds
Fat and thin, short and tall
If you look with open minds
They tell a story one and all

Christ is born within us
We bear him in our hearts
Prayer and offering borne to heaven
On the wings of the angels
In his dying, we are crucified with him
By his rising, we are born again
On his shoulders, he bore our sin
Suffered for our sake with arms wide open
Than the gift of life, there is none greater
We have been given a new lease on life
Let us not squander this second chance
So great the magnitude of our circumstance
Born of spirit and flesh, body and soul
Two worlds longing to be whole
Spirit of God come fill me up
So that the love of Christ, in me, is born
Then I may go to plant and sow
And seeds of faith, one day, will grow

Peace and healing be on you,
Strength and grace be with you too
Both now and forever Amen.
May you walk in the light that guides,
Your hand in his own and your footsteps besides
Both now and forever Amen.
Each day, you awake to greet the morning sun
And count the stars that blanket the heavens when day is done
Both now and forever Amen.
When will you see He is holding you and me?
Both now and forever Amen.
We will never have to fear, for our God is always near
Both now and forever Amen.
He died on a cross, sinless unto death
So we could live free and have life giving breath
Both now and forever Amen.
As long as there is life in me and my Lord is in this place,
I will praise with word and song and ask for His Amazing Grace
Both now and forever Amen.
When things are hard and life seems too much,
I need to call on Jesus and get in touch
Both now and forever Amen.
Sometimes I am led astray and my feet begin to wander
And other times I see glimpses that even angels can only ponder
Both now and forever Amen.
But you love me now, you loved me then
You love me always; both now and forever Amen!

Breathe, just breathe
Rest easy, and drift softly asleep
Heaviness and warmth surround
And I know this is where peace is found
Fill your lungs with the presence
Of the giver of all good things
Once weak and weary slowly dying
Now filled with the spirit of life
Release the tension, the impatience, irritation
Take in the calm, the quiet, the peace
Breathe in the sweet perfumed air
Of a space saturated with prayer
Breathe in and let the healing waters flow
Let the sunlight follow wherever you go
Let your breath chase away the clouds
Of despair and sorrow
And may the sun shine even more brilliantly tomorrow
Breathe in the love that casts out fear
And remember you are welcome here
Let go of the weights that bring you down
Until you fly with your feet on the ground
Breathe in the freedom and laugh with all your heart
For the joy of being truly alive is where it starts
Breathe in, breath in deeply
Begin to refocus and re-center
Begin to let peace re-enter
It hovers close though, at times, unseen
If you pay close attention you might see what I mean
So when things are stressful and getting out of hand
Breathe, just breath and remember who is in command

Use me as you will
And when I find you, I am blessed to
Find my restless heart is still
Come Holy Spirit come upon us now
In our rising and our falling
In our working and in our play
Grant us strength again somehow
For we are weary, and we ache
And under blazing sun these bones bake
But Breath of Heaven in you we come alive
We rise once more and, once again, we thrive!

Hope alights like a new dawn
Springing forth on young legs like a fawn.
We are yet in darkness and despair
So, unseeing, we are not yet aware
Of the light that lies just beyond.
Before too long a new day has dawned.
Hope flies on the wings of tomorrow
Where we begin to let go of our pain and sorrow.
A single ray of light in the darkest night can pierce,
And a single small flame can burn all the more fierce.
Like a river will eventually find its way to the sea,
We follow our hope to the source that makes our hearts free.
Brighter days are soon to come;
Spreading hope to everyone.

We are all beat up and broken down
Our hearts are like broken glass
Bruised and bloodied knocked upon the ground
We are lost like a man with no compass
We are small and frail and weak
The image is twisted by sin and shame
But in the void, the silence will speak
And the one who loves will call our name
The King of Kings and Lord of Lords
Prince of Peace the Lion and the Lamb
His death brought us from chaos to one accord
He is eternal and He is the Great I AM
He was broken for us
He was pierced for love
He was crushed for our sins
Obedient to the Father above
This is where the healing begins
His body is broken and his blood poured out
He calls us to faith even when we doubt
By giving himself, he makes us whole
He enters in and restores our soul
There is a longing this world can't satisfy
There isn't a thing that we won't try
But we are left hungry and unfulfilled
But with God, we find radical love and fears are stilled
We may be broken, but let us be broken together
Clinging to Jesus in the storms and bad weather
For he heals the broken hearted and brings joy to the sad
He binds the wounded and brings the lost back to the field

So, turn to the Lord and be not broken, but be healed

Lord, we are broken people, and we need you in our lives. All the king's horses and all the king's men couldn't put us back together again, but you can Lord. Only say the word and our souls will be healed. You are perfect and we, most definitely, are not. We are broken, but we are not broken alone. You were broken for us so that we might be made whole with you. We die with you so we may, one day, rise with you to new and glorious eternal life. Heal us Lord. Heal our streets and lands, heal us Lord by the working of your hands. Hear our cries and come swiftly to our aid. You, Oh Lord, are our refuge and our strength. Break us, bless us, multiply us and perfect us. All this we pray, in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen

You take me as I am: broken and weak
You bless me and I am made strong and whole
You find me as I am: blindingly I seek
You love me and restore my heart and soul
There is nothing I can give you Lord of everything
No words to speak nor song to sing
You want my life, you want my love
You want me with you high above
You break me and bless me Oh Lord you multiply
Without you I will never be enough no matter how hard I try
I lay this offering at your feet
I lift it up and it is complete
Whatever I give, I receive seven-fold
The feeling of joy and wonder never gets old
Sometimes I must break so I can heal properly
Shaped and changed like a piece of pottery
There can be miracles for those who believe
To those who are open, they will receive
I the Lord God, am your portion, provision
Come to me in your every decision
See for yourself I am not lacking in abundance
My love for you is more than just a passing glance
I bless you my Child forever and a day
I want to bless you in every little way

Christ is our cornerstone love is the foundation
The cross; the bridge between the people of every nation
When we work together, when we love each other
One big family with one father and mother
Compassion will seal and wounds begin to heal
In safety and peace we have nothing to fear
We are building your kingdom here
With mercy for all; a place of refreshment and rest
Here in the kingdom we welcome the guest
We'll bring just a little bit of heaven down to Earth
And try to help everyone see the greatness of their worth
In the building of your kingdom all will have a place
In the building of your kingdom we shall see your face
In the building of your kingdom all will be made new
Singing, dancing, and great jubilation for we will be with you
You love us and you call us each by name
You hold us in your hand the Lord the One Who Reigns
We are building your kingdom change us from within
We are building your kingdom may the whole world join in

But for today I am grace enough
Bringing you peace and purest love
The weight of worry weighs heavy
You're scared that you're not ready
But for today I am strength enough
For, as sure as the sun rises above
I'm holding on so don't you fear
In every laugh and through every tear
But for today I am light enough
If the spirit is weak and the fight too tough
If on the mountain ***** you lose hope
I will lift you up and carry you
But for today I am good enough
Today let me be all that you need
I love you, and I give you my peace
By my name, chaos and striving cease
But for Today

Lead us to the heart of the Father
Comfort us and show us the way
This is my son i whom I am pleased
Filled by the Spirit of God

In the body and the blood
You make us as one
Brothers and sisters all family
One in the Spirit of God

Into the desert for forty long days
Tempted and tried he remained
Faithful to the end
Led by the Spirit of God

From your neighborhood to the ends of the earth
We are sent out to share the good news
Share the love and the joy that we have
Sent by the Spirit of God

A lighthouse beacon in the stormy sea
A hand that reaches out for you and me
A rainbow stretching 'cross the sky
Hope in the Spirit of God

Out from the Ultimate Sacrifice
One man paid the greatest price
By water and blood the world redeemed
Saved by the Spirit of God

From clay and the salt of the earth
The breath of God created man
Christ died so we could rise with Him
Alive by the Spirit of God

We are his children the work of his hand
We are his sheep the flock of his land
We are his treasure our value unmatched
Loved by the Spirit of God

Called to Be Free

We are bound by our sins, chained by our choices
We cry out, we scream with soundless voices
We are slaves to what we love, prisoners to our desires
All we touch burns and we are ****** from razor wires
Trapped in an endless circle a cycle so vicious
We can’t find up, it is tormenting and malicious

But we are called to be free
We are called to truly see
The weights we carry have been lifted
We deserve nothing but how much we have been gifted
We are called to leave the madness far behind
To seek and know true peace of mind
We are called to rise up on great wings
To laugh in the meadows and dance in the springs
To leap with young legs for the joy of being alive
To go beyond just enough and learn how to thrive

We lose ourselves in the everyday action
We forget ourselves and lose satisfaction
We miss the point and we miss the mark
We wander aimlessly stabbing in the dark
We are the walking dead animated flesh and bone
We cut ourselves off and then feel all alone

But we are called to be free
We are called to look beyond “only me”
We can find ourselves in a breath of prayer
We remember ourselves in our Savior’s care
We can reach the goal and reclaim our center
We a full of light and life when we let Jesus enter
We are united to Christ and to one and all
To be free and alive: this is the call

Amen

Oh little flame how bright you burn
And from darkness you will turn
To bathe us in your little light
And guide us through the darkest night

Oh little flame of Holy Fire
In your simplicity you do inspire
You remind me that I too carry
A light that makes the darkness less scary

Oh little flame you are strong
And yet you are so frail
You illuminate the right and wrong
Your little light will pierce the veil

Oh little flame oh cherished glow
Don’t live too fast but take it slow
In living there is sacrifice
In giving there is a price

Oh little flame oh light divine
I hold your light and make it mine
I will shine for all to see
The difference you have made for me

Can you see me?
Can you feel me right beside?
I am standing in the doorway
Will you welcome me inside?
I am looking
Deep inside your soul
I am longing
To come and make you whole
Can you see me?
My eyes, so soft and warm
Can you see them?
My love a whispered wind, a wild storm
Do you feel it?
Eyes so deep and calm
As to drown and disappear
In the depth and breadth of my love
Part One. The Question

No greater love than this:
To lay down one's life for another
No greater charity than this:
Humbly serving your sister and brother
Where charity and love are, God is also found
In grace and mercy, your heads are crowned
Care for the sick and comfort the weeping
Give generously to those in your keeping
Bring peace to the dying and lift up the low
And the Lord will be with you wherever you go
Bring Christ to all the world
In all you do, BE Christ for others
Charity and love are intertwined
For love is putting the other before yourself
And by serving humbly, love may be expressed
In this exchange, both parties are blessed
Through love and charity may you live in joy
For you are third in this simple key:

Jesus First
Others Second
Yourself (that's Me)

Put it together and what have you got?

Take my life and mold and shape
Take all that I am and recreate
You made me in your image
When you carved me in your hand
You know my inmost being
Loved before time began
Carefully made with such love and care
No craftsman on earth can compare
To take something and give it
New purpose, new life, new identity
To look within and set a spirit free
It is the gift of a precious chosen few
And so, it is why I sing this song for you
The wood rejoices and it sings
It even dances for the master
It takes on a life all its own
Speak to my soul in purest tone
Bless us with the song of the carpenter
With hands both rough and tender
With eyes to see what may lie hidden
With patience for the hours ahead
With humble heart that's spirit led
May all we do and think and say
Lead to the life the truth and way

You love me with the greatest devotion
And, as I wonder, I'm struck by the notion
I can run, but I can't hide
You won't ever leave my side
I can push you and I can fight
But I won't ever leave your sight
So, Lord, won't you carry me
Hold me in your arms, enfold me in your peace
Hold me close and don't let me go
Oh Lord, come carry me
I saw you walk beside me
When the sun shone in the sky
But I couldn't find you in the pain
So, I shook my fist and asked "Why?!"
In these lowest times I still made it through
So, it seems to me, I didn't need you
Looking back, I realize I was very wrong
You were there carrying me all along
It's your love that lifts me up
It's your peace that fills my cup
It's your truth that gives me wings
It's your joy that makes my heart sing
Grant me courage, grant me strength
And I can go to any length
In your arms I'll always know
That I'll be safe from any foe
You raise me up to more than I can be
Oh Lord My God, come and carry me

Lord, sometimes I get discouraged and I start to question why
Especially when things don’t work out no matter how hard I try.
When the words won’t come and the thoughts don’t flow,
When minutes feel like hours and time moves painfully slow
When I am challenged, you use these moments to teach.
I know you are here even though you feel out of reach.
Lord, I trust that my being with you is good enough:
You take my awkward feeble attempt and edges rough
You make it something beautiful and polish it to shine.
Even in our brokenness, you are still divine.
Lord, help me when I feel that what I give is not enough
You love me when life is good and when times are tough.
My worth isn’t measured by what I can or cannot do,
My worth is measured by who I am to you:
Cherished, and beloved until the end of days.
Often you work in mysterious ways
But I trust you Lord, even though I don’t always see
At least not right away, the lessons you are teaching me.
So, in the challenges Lord, I thank you; I bless your Holy Name
And I pray that every day, you help me do the same.

Amen

The years pass and the seasons change
And sometimes I wonder am I still the same?
I look around and see others moving by
And I feel like standing water: still and dry
Am I in a desert of my own designs
Or are you leading me to the divine?
Lord, I feel like I should be waiting for you
Or am I just afraid of what you're calling me to?
My heart and my mind are at odds again
Locked in a battle of faith and of reason
Lord Holy Spirit come now and descend
Put these two warriors to rest and easin'
Lord, take my fear, and in your mercy, grant me peace
You love me perfectly
And perfect love drives out all fear
Break through this stubbornness
And help me to draw ever near
Near to your heart and into your arms
A refuge of safety, a place that warms
Through all of these questions, fears, and doubts
There is one thing that I'm quite sure about:
I have your life within me
And it changes everything
Though sometimes I can't see
Just what difference it will bring
Change me Lord from the outside in
That I may be transfigured: made holy and pure
Making beauty from wretchedness is a miracle to be sure
You lift me from the ashes and breathe life into my bones
My spirit cries out to you with sweet and wordless groans
I am not, today, as I was once, before,
I have grown and matured and what's more
I am a work in progress, I am still being made
And so, my fears of stagnancy are allayed

So many choices, options, decisions
Bombarded barraged created divisions
The possibilities are endless; a veritable buffet
This is the world in which we live today
We choose how we act, how we feel and what we wear
We choose what we say and how much we want to care
God gave us free-will he gave us a choice
He gave us our minds and he gave us a voice
Tricked into the sin of jealousy and pride
Realizing the mistake and trying to hide
Like Lucifer we too fell from Grace
And sin entered in to the whole human race
But God in his mercy would not be outdone
For in the fullness of time he would send his one and only son
To suffer and die and rise from the grave
Not to judge or condemn but that we might be saved
He gave himself freely; his body and blood
The ultimate expression of his divine love
Our hearts are broken and we seek things to fill
But no matter what we try nothing fits the bill
His body as bread he joins his heart to ours
His blood the wine sweeter than flowers
United on a physical and fundamental plane
So intimate and so profound you can never be the same
We have a choice: we can be believe and accept
Or we can deny, and doubt and be circumspect
But we have a choice and it can’t be coerced
What will satisfy this longing this deep thirst
And when all is said and done at the end of the age
It’s your turn in the spotlight it’s your time on the stage
Our choices carry a surprising amount of weight
Did you choose to love, did you forgive instead of hate
Did you follow in His footsteps and help others on the road
Did you ease someone’s burden, help them carry the load
Many times you have to make choices that are hard
None come through not bruised or cut or scarred
Though the way is hard and the journey ever long
We are not alone and together we are made strong
In the world of a million choices there is one that I will make
Find something that will mark me like a stamp or seal
I choose to live a life of love that’s real
and not just some cheap fake

Making the most of the precious moments spent together
And if we have each other there is nothing we can’t weather

Christmas Presence

The time of year is upon us once more
Filled with travel, shopping, stress
Running here, over there, buying this, giving gifts,
Ever more and ever longer Christmas lists!
Busier than bees in the summer, nuttier than squirrels in the fall
It's a wonder how we live at all!
We never bother to stop or pause or even slow down,
But what if we did? What if we dared to take a step back;
See beyond what we have to find what it is we lack.
If we go back to the beginning I think we might just find
Some Christmas presents of a slightly different kind.
A child was born a cold dark winter night,
Three rich wisemen brought expensive gifts and travelled many miles
A poor drummer boy played a song for the babe
But the greatest gift of all that day
Was the birth of baby Jesus
Sent to earth to give us great gifts:
The gifts of His mercy, forgiveness and grace,
The gifts of His love, wisdom, and compassion.
But the greatest gift of all was he gave us His LIFE! Died so we might live.
Every day He is with us, we are surrounded by His presence in our hearts and in our lives.
Each morning we wake up is a gift from God and every day and night He is with us.
We celebrate Christmas just one day a year, but Christmas is really all year!
I hope that we do not too quickly forget what is truly important and what Christmas really means.
Christmas isn't about the ribbons, the bows or tags,
It isn't about the packages, the boxes or bags!
It's together with family friends and loved ones to remember the gifts that they are;
Jesus gave us the gift of His PRESENCE, may we be PRESENT to Him and a GIFT to all both near and far!

Lord, as we prepare for the coming celebrations by cleaning, tidying up, and getting organized for company, family and friends, and parties of all kinds, I pray that you would make us mindful of the need to do the same thing in our hearts, our minds, and our lives. We need to prepare ourselves to be ready to welcome you into our humble houses and we wait with eager anticipation for you to be born again in us.

As we give and receive gifts this year, turn our minds to the gifts that you received and their meaning and, more importantly, to rejoice and be glad for all the gifts that you give us in return.

As we celebrate and gather together in our warm houses with good food and nice clothes, let us take a moment to remember those who are left out in the cold, those who do not have such luxuries and move our hearts to be grateful and show them some love and mercy.

And, when Christmas is over, ordinary life is moving forward once more and we forget the promises we made, remind us that Christmas is about Emmanuel. Christmas reminds us that God is with us. Not just for one day a year, not for a month or a season, but every day and every night. God is with us in the morning and the evening, in our waking and our sleeping. God is present. The communion (the Eucharist) is His gift to us. It is his very essence. He feeds us and sustains us as we walk this way of faith.

God, sometimes we need a little gift. Sometimes our spirits need a little lift. In these moments Lord, help us reach out to you with open hands and give up our burdens and receive your abundant gifts you desire to give us. And Lord, may we never be envious or desirous of someone else's gifts. You bless us all as we need. Your gifts are perfect Lord. Grant us the grace to be satisfied with You, satisfied with what we have been given, satisfied enough on earth and grant that we, may one day be, supremely satisfied within the halls of Heaven. Amen

Lord, look with love upon your Creation
By your Spirit, may we live in right Relation.
Gather your flock from every tribe and Nation
Fan the flame of faith in this young Generation.
Holy are you and worthy of Veneration!
Open our hearts to grant some Revelation
While we wait for you with joyful Expectation.
Be swept up by a brand-new Sensation
Elevating each one above their Station.
Be bold to stand for truth without Hesitation
Trusting in God for proper Preparation
And even in suffering we may find Elation.
Grant us your strength to combat Temptation
And avoid that which causes Separation.
Falling on our knees in humble Adoration
Our feet are found on faith's firm Foundation.
In purest love's perfect sacrifice of Salvation
Innocent blood became the way of Expiation
May we recognize, acknowledge, and Awaken
To the weight of this most blessed Invitation.

Up on the mountain he took them: Peter John and James
And before their very eyes, their Jesus was changed
His clothes became the most dazzling white
A cloud came in and they fell down in utter fright
The true weight of God's Glory came upon them that day
As Jesus went up to the mountain to pray
The disciples were given a special peek
Something to give them strength when they were weak
It was hope, it was light, and it was profound peace
In praying, that which we receive down on our knees
We are transformed with Christ; made new and clean
And while we may never have this very scene
We can have a similar experience and feel the glory
We can, today, share in this great Gospel story
We can adore and, like candles, burn in his presence
A gift for the greatest and least, for kings and for peasants

Lord, some days we can't see you because of the shadow, and sometimes we are blinded because you are so close to us. Most of us have been blessed to have Close Encounters of the Spiritual Kind and felt the weight of your glory. The pure power of the energy and love in that moment is like a nuclear reactor. We become radioactive and sometimes even positively glow from the experience. Though it may be forgotten at times, it is still in us. In our darkest moments, help us call to mind this sunshine and cast away the doubt and fear. In your goodness, you have given us this hope of resurrection that we are longing for on Easter Sunday while we wander through the desert of trial and temptation for these forty days to obtain the true conversion and transformation. Thank you, Lord, for Close Encounters of the Spiritual Kind that bring us into the light of your presence and the weight of your glory! Amen.

Love one another clothed now in Christ
Morning draws near to cast out the night
Things done in secret no longer can hide
Thorns in his brow and spear in his side
Love beyond measure, peace like a flood
Washed white as snow by his precious blood

Love your neighbor as yourself showing kindness to all
Work together in unity lest we may fall
Wrap yourself with truth and justice put on peace and grace
With wisdom and understanding we might know and see his face
The Word is our sword and faith is our shield
On our knees we steel ourselves on the holy battlefield

Clothed now in Christ we look to the sky
And together, with one voice, we cry
Lord, banish the darkness and show us the way
The sun is rising bringing forth a new day
The war is over Jesus has won
But here once again the battle’s just begun
