Desires
We are led by our own desires

Not inspired by God

The wish is father to the thought

Born from what's desired

Warmth in Heart
Inside . . .
my frozen heart your love resides
a sunset kept by timeless sighs
my how it's surrounded by my lies

Midnight hour . . .
finds me on the edge of poetry
with paper hearts that be
the chains of your memory

Yet . . .
I reach into my heart
to warm the hands that are so stark
the love that has made it's mark .

Forgiveness . . .
I ask only this of you
but my pleas are more than the stars above the blue
More than the number of drops of dew

Twilight . . .
filters through my minds eye
as the time now turns to fly
I turn to night , cold , goodbye
You get off work on a Friday eve
The backed up traffic is your pet peeve
You stop off at the local bar
Run into friends as you park your car
You drink import on American dream
Hey there's Mary , ain't she a scream
Someone slips you some super daze
Your out of it for a month of days
You dance now with every smile
Got you running fifteen miles
Long ago you heard last call
On the way out you stumble and fall
Passed out inside your car
Wake up behind the bars
Gee you think it was so much fun
Cain't wait till the next week's done
Drugs , ***** , and . . and . . and that other thing .

On Evolution
And I will not discuss evolution
Or fairytales with you
You are much to important to me
To be monkeying around with
And I would go bananas if I lost you
And I swear by my ancestor's bones
I will not provoke you

Waah , Waah , Waa Waah !
Ooh ! Ooh ! Ooh !

Translated means , "I've gone ape over you !"
Come swing with me on the vines of life
Everyday will be bananas and honey
We can sleep in the tree tops
Gaze at the stars
And pick each other's fleas
Come on baby , Please !

Add A Poem (Words)
I opened up
Dumped out the words
Kicked them hard
For the sound I heard
Crack ! goes the breaking ribs
There is no pity that I give
Stomped then flat
Stretched then out
Made them squeal
Then I made them shout
I grabbed them by the naked throat
Squeezed so hard
I made them choke
I made pain flash in their eyes
I made them pay for all their lies
Hot fear sweated out
Red blood dripped cold
without a doubt
I made them wish
they had never said
Before I made
A morgue , of the page

3:10 A M
There are no distractions
        at 3:10 A M

There's not even a breeze
       no stirring of wind

I sit alone in silence
        listening to nothing

No , no I'm not in any
        kind of suffering

Just letting my consciousness
        expand beyond the borders

Beyond the mountains
        and the sea's waters

Not even the space
        surrounding the stars

There are no limits
        as to just how far

My universe
        is my man made cosmos

A thought turning to whim
        Seen through like ghost

I sit alone in silence
        but I'm not really lonely

I have all of my friends :
mayonnaise , mustard and lots of baloney
I feel the space that I can't touch
You are invisibly everywhere
I see the way that you think
But I can't say it's real

Bridge of Rebellion
I crossed the bridge
of my rebellion
only to find the truth
implanted firmly
on the other side
The stars laugh
at my audacity
"We've seen your kind before .
Their bones lie in the holes
of forsaken eternity"

I cry out to proclaim
"Even the stars
will have a judgement day .
You burn brightly now but
In the end you will have to pay ."

Nothing lasts forever
Not the stars nor
even this universe
Even the blackness
of outer space
has it's time marked down
as to a final resting place

So as for me I crossed my bridge
I have nothing more to say
I stand here and I'm trembling
Frightened and excited
of what the will
will be

Broken Glass
Broken glass
and dammits too !
Throw in yells
machine gun words
short-staccato
as vowels blow by
over you

It was your
Easter Sunday
Too beautiful
Two until two
and frustration

Wondering
where in Hell
do I come from
going nowhere
with pockets
full of sharp seconds
cold long and hard

Lock the door
but shut it first
Here asking
which came first . . .
the sun , the moon
or the fool

Moses and Jesus
Moses was Egyptian
Jesus was a jew
God came down from the mountaintop
said there's no difference between the two

Well parting of the red sea
Or was it a sea of reeds ?
Who flipping cares now
What is important is the fact of the deed

And Noah built a boat
Had a raffle giving away time shares
But interest was at record lows
Just showers and who really cares

So they crucified Jesus
Did they nail or rope him down there
Doesn't really matter
we left him dangling in the air

We have all heard of the Passover
But we celebrate "pass" with the beast
There is grit and grittle in the foundation of our hearts
Somehow we feel we are complete

So how God holds a special place
for such a hideous race
Even by God's Standards
that decision is hard to take

It Just Happened
It might be painful
It might be disdainful
It might be lightning
It is so frightening
Could be the thunder
That has my number
It could be Jesus knocking
concerned about my mocking
It could be my future
or my lack of culture
It could be those fried reasons
maybe it's Jackie Gleason
It could be the hollow
that always seems to follow
me into the night
so black without any sight
It could be a light
from my star at height
tumbling through the heavens
or bread that is unleavened . . .

All I know is it just happened
while I was here just napping
Have you ever suddenly realized a truth that just comes out of the blue .

The love Of Woman
The love of woman
flows through me
like the blood in my veins
The heart aches
with or without them
There is no air as fresh
as the kiss of the one you love
Can you compare the embrace
To that of God ?
There is nothing more beautiful
than watching her sleep in peace
Nothing can you share as endearing
The love of woman
makes me a man

New Summer Wine
Like new summer wine
We were green in our time
And the yellow rose
never smelled better

But like the weeds in the road
Armadillos , horned toads
The truth was spelled out in the letter

You know some days are just fine
Others will find that your lying
But most of the time
you're barbed wiring

Well the rains came on down
Washed away most of the town
I found you boarding the bus to Dallas

You said you gave it a go
It's time to go with the flow
Then I watched the bus
dissappear with sadness

Well the high plain's never tame
Life's not long there for the lame
And one can drown in the dust
of your sorrow

You can ride on and mend
But you will never be able
to bend
The land or the will that's known as Texas

So goodbye my dear friend
You can write but I'll never send
I'll be waiting for you
at the nexus
Have you ever seen it rain cats and dogs
How about a dumb bell or dumb waiter
Or a road runner
Have you ever seen a blue whale
Maybe he's just depressed
How about a stool pigeon
Or is it a pigeon stool
I have seen a mocking bird
They are loud , obnoxious , and on my
Mailbox they leave . . . (rhymes with words)
Bobby pin
A temporary permanent
How about a hot plate , yeah me too !
Or a cat on a hot tin roof
A mega phone (probably not portable)
Or walk down the up escalator
A bat out of Hell
Naw , I prefer fried chicken fingers
I felt the sudden change in the air
As icy breath clung I was made aware
Outside my window the shadows fell
But it was too early for night to tell
Still it was cold and dark I know
Then came that knock upon the door
"Thomas , whom I come looking for
Won't you open up for evermore ?"

I shook with fear , for all the years
Suddenly I was filled with tears
I had always made my covered bed
And in absolution I held my head
Still you have no earthy clue
When comes that knock upon the wood
"Thomas , oh Thomas ,  if you would
Unbolt the lock now if you could."

I stood in silence , made not a sound
But by the shadow upon the ground
I knew he waited so patiently
Waiting ! Waiting , there for me
"Come Thomas , the seconds few
You cannot avoid what's in store for you
Do not bother looking for the key
For I have kept it safely here with me ."

I said I was not afraid of Death
That I would not bend in my final breath
Then I remembered my father's passing
How the stillness became so everlasting
And I knew I was no more special
That life is certainly full and spacial
So I opened up the door
"I am Thomas , the Thomas of whom you do implore ."

Breakaway
Time to say :

         "It's become too much
It's time to move it on
I've been here way too long
          Enough now is enough"

Time to set my sights :

"On where I need to be
On the things I've got to do
          On the inner fuel that
          Drives my soul to free"

Time to set my sails :

         "And cross that sea
          To my island Paradise
To stand on the sands and shore
          I will , I will , I will , be free

Scissile
Lay the edge across the page
and cut the words in two

Separate the vowels from the verbs
and eliminate the pronouns too

There is an objective in the adjective
fleshy skin parts the red red Sea

If the emotions in motion cause commotions
they must be extracted
immediately

Never before such perception so clear
Picking splinters like scabs off the cross

So what never was will be no more
blood tastes salty in a memory's horde
Scissile means to cut into , apart , or off .

Milky Way to my Heart
Hello ,
Take my hand . . .
we will step out
onto the stars and run
across the Milky Way

We will swim
in the pools of
glistening light and
share to our heart's delight

We will catch comets . . .
putting them in our pockets
making wishes
along the way

We will visit the darkest moons
and give them light
from far across the galaxies

But the most heavenly light of all
will reside in your smile

Once
Once upon a time I wrote poetry
To fill the emptiness that did reside

Once I learn to say how I felt
Long after the tears had mostly dried

Once I marveled at what I could write down
I even marveled at the rthym of the sound

But now the words falter , stumble at the gate
They no longer please me , I take it as my fate

Their purpose has somehow been denied
And to continue on a fruitless path would be living in a lie

So I take stock and close the book and put away my pen
For I will not be found in grace on page written in poem again

Once I was lost but now I'm found

I'll have no use
for empty rooms
or houses devoid of life

I'll close the door
shake the lock some more
So ends this book
on wife

I'll start over again
just like before
with pennies
for my thoughts

Our love once steel
has turned cast iron at will
and wrought
it's core so full of flaws

It's okay ,
what is there to say
Except that I'll
be moving on

Oleander Kisses
No one understands her
                                           she is young

She is cloud and free
                                    greets all with a smile
saying ,"Kisses my friend"

She lays naked in thought
                                             with hands so cold
that cut like knives

Fangs in vein
                       as she ***** the breath
out of your world
                               with oleander kisses
Oleander is a toxic plant .

Glistening white glacial skin
Full of separation and crystals
ice , blue black sky , and thin

Thin lips penguin straight
uttering crisp words of fate
Frozen breath and heart
she invades your open gate

Gate swings by force
Her will of course
And you shiver . . . fear ?
As your voice grows coarse .

Coarse by Par
you can't get far
As you wish to be away
But she's trapped your star

You are captured  due

Everytime
.

Everytime I hotwired reality

I took a bite out of animosity

I followed all the wrong examples

Danced to the music I didn't know

I never knew the new ground

Before it brought me down

In the end we all dance to the music alone

Twirling until we are nowhere to be found

. . . . dancing our sorrow away . . . .

. . . . all the dying years enthused . . . .

. . . .  in the end keep the fire burning
         in your eyes . . . .

. . . . until the light in you reaches the sky . . . .
You are a hard ghost to pin down
my will-o'-the-wisp

If I approach you . . .
you recede
If I back up . . .
you approach

But you never let me touch you
My marsh lover

A light unto my heart
Burns where I cannot touch
Cold flames of blue leave me
No traces of heat upon my lips

My heart shivers from lack of loves inferno
The strength of my skin
Cannot be measured
The merit of my bones
Cannot be weighed

Nor will my love be finite
Caged or displayed
My lips seek soft wet kisses
That reign down on my soul

Joy of Desolation
I woke up this morning
In the middle of the night
Saying to myself
such a dandy plight

Every thorn has it's rose
Every brier patch it's hare
Every Monday has it's shame
for the weekend it bares

You can buy salvation
for a dollar a shot
During happy hour
So much redemption why stop ?

All the glasses
in a row
Why they call them shots
I already know

Every thorn has it's rose
Every brier patch it's hare
Desolation is one after another
Until you just don't care

Bama Boy
It was a normal two scorpion and one rattlesnake day at 112° in Wichita Falls , Texas .
Texas . . . they made Hell out of the good parts of Texas and the rest of the state just went there . Fortunately my parents only went there so my little sister could be born there . We left the great state of Texas and moved to the incestuous state of Alabama .
Where the impossible will always remain the same . And the possible will be banned , outlawed , and perpetuated behind countless barns , toolsheds , and the outhouse known as Montgomery , the State Capitol . Called the Heart of Dixie (it should be called ******* of Dixie and thank God for Mississippi , for they have wrest that title away from us . But we gave it a-hell-a-va-fight .)
We are a multicolored society . We have white (the pressence of all color) and black (the absence of all color). Which is strange now because the black people are called colored and the white people are called all kinds of blacked out names (usually on court documents).
Alabama is proud of it's educational system . We measure one's intelligence by how soon they leave the state for better opportunities . In Alabama an educated person is a four letter word , like ******* , or worse . Oops !
Let me see now . . . one , two , three , four . . . got to tale off my shoe  . . . five , six , seven . . . wait a minute . . . ******* ? . . . is that one or two words .

Prayers
If God granted all my prayers how miserable I would be .
We live in our corners
in our moments of existance
in our persistence of everyday word

But what would I give
for at this moment
to be dancing all alone with you

To hold you to my chest
as we sway listening
to the charms of the music

Under shooting stars
we make dearest our wishes
Oh ! how silly we are

And for a moment
to bend down to kiss
warm wet lips you have

How can your cheek
be so soft to my touch
I must claim this find as my own

Come dance in my arms
and kiss with your charms
as we simply float away

Leaning forward
swinging their feet
like second grade

1313 Primrose Street
The first thing I ever memorized
Except for the hollow fear
of empty footsteps
following me from Texas

The sharks always fascinated me
Charged me with fear
and apprehension
Evil dark black eye of devotion
They were all maneaters

Her skin was sandpaper thin
She made me always bleed
She drank shark's liver oil
and made me always smile
She was a maneater

On a mountaintop
my love came alvalanching down
Even January's cold
was no match for what I was told

Drove back to Birmingham
with the thermostat stuck
But I didn't care
I couldn't be colder
frozen in my forlorn heart of despair

I called him Navaho
He would appear and disappear
without a sound
Would stare at the stars
all night long
Sleep on the cold desert floor
Eat peyote buds
and sing war songs
He was rich
in all the nothing he had
Identified as a thunderbird
The animal spirits
were sacred in his world
Asked about gold
and he would scorn
Holding up water
the most precious
in all forms
I called him Navaho

Call me Dineh !
So I did

Poems (Definition)
Poems are the MRI's of the soul .
He's been an orphan since he was sixteen
That's when his parents kicked him out because he was so mean .
He's been living on the steps of every backdoor
What he can't get begging he will steal for

Once he was his mother's pride and joy
That was before he started drugs and there was no wonder anymore .
His skin turned hard and his heart harder still
His eyes became vacant lots lacking any will

He was living for a shot in the dark
Instead someone shot him down by the park
He died with a silly grin on his face
Don't worry there's someone who will take his place

Just another American dream disgraced
Another person slips off the face
He was dead before he hit the ground
His life ended with out a sound

And every day we say I don't care
He wasn't going to make it anywhere
All he was good at was getting high
Now he's gone and no one's asking why

His skin was as hard as a memory
He kept then in a bottle of pills he got free
No one even knows his name
Bud or Buster , it was all the same

No one even knows his name
They put him in a black bag that's the shame
He'll never be around again
And no one really cares

We were mixing affections
Kissing Dixie cups of wine
Laughing at the passing time

Our fingertips touching
And wishing for another
Chapter to be read

We were down at the barn
Where the horses stay

We were hanging around
Messing around under the hay

You dropped your Dixie cup
I threw mine away
You smiled and said ,"What the hey."

The moon came a harvesting
The stars were giggling behind the clouds that strayed
And we had our day that night

is a beauteous thing
It overcomes evil
It forgives all sin

cleaves to women

they embrace the end

Death
is an open door
step within
for truth and more

Time

it will run out
while your still standing

It destroys all evil
it cleans all sin

And love
I say again
overcomes all

I Rode
I rode in the black back seat
at the age of three
From Wichita to Selma
in this land where nothing comes free

Across Texas , Arkansas , Mississippi
under stars I dreamed
While a heartbeat
was ever following me

Strange the things we choose
to remember and recall
Are the things maybe trivial
But are another brick in the wall

I lived in Panama City
until I was twelve
Swam with sharks and rays
Fell in love but on it I won't dwell

I ran with wild mustangs
in the wilds of Spokane
Climbed up the Rockies
Trekked the snows in a winter wonderland

I slept in the desert under
the most gorgeous stars
Ate mushrooms and peyote
trying to figure out who I are

But there's no place
No place , like the one
Where you were born

No place
on earth
Can lead you away that's far

There's no where
Like the dirt running
through your veins

There's no place
like the place where
you got your name
