"agate" poems
I hear stories of an ancient land so pure. I see photographs of bluer than blue skies over a lake of molten gold. I drink kahwa flavoured with almond and saffron and add honey, sweetened by bees from the valley, my hips swaying in a crewel work on wool skirt. I hear songs of freedom, I know people who fled. The muezzin prays for peace over bloodstains and tears while children still play under walnut trees. Clouds gather to pray at Shankaracharya Temple on a mountain dipping its toes into water while empty shikaras speak of visiting ghosts. Mothers whose eyes never tire, looking over the sunset for long lost sons; wives who still lay out their husband’s slippers on a carpet with frayed edges. Postmen deliver letters to addresses long abandoned; a generation of elders, eyes of agate, gnarled fingers, brew tea surrounded by memories of children killed, daughters ***** I write for all people who live in war. I write for the age of innocence to return. I write for soft rain to wash away sin. I write for the return to reason. I write for peace to flutter gently through groves of apricot, almond, apple and walnut. Feel the pain. Hear the refrain. Smell the emptiness. This is now. This is now. This is not in the pages of a fading history text. This is now. This is now.

Ballad for Kashmir
Visits of condolence is all we get from them. They squat at the Holocaust Memorial, They put on grave faces at the Wailing Wall And they laugh behind heavy curtains In their hotels. They have their pictures taken Together with our famous dead At Rachel's Tomb and Herzl's Tomb And on Ammunition Hill. They weep over our sweet boys And lust after our tough girls And hang up their underwear To dry quickly In cool, blue bathrooms. Once I sat on the steps by agate at David's Tower, I placed my two heavy baskets at my side. A group of tourists was standing around their guide and I became their target marker. "You see that man with the baskets? Just right of his head there's an arch from the Roman period. Just right of his head." "But he's moving, he's moving!" I said to myself: redemption will come only if their guide tells them, "You see that arch from the Roman period? It's not important: but next to it, left and down a bit, there sits a man who's bought fruit and vegetables for his family."

Helen, thy beauty is to me Like those Nicean barks of yore, That gently, o’er a perfumed sea, The weary, wayworn wanderer bore To his own native shore. On desperate seas long wont to roam, Thy hyacinth hair, thy classic face, Thy Naiad airs have brought me home To the glory that was Greece, To the grandeur that was Rome. Lo! in yon brilliant window niche, How statue-like I see thee stand, The agate lamp within thy hand! Ah, Psyche, from the regions which Are Holy Land!

To Helen (II)
I am a raging fire on the inside and what the world only sees, a wisp of smoke emanating through me. Lightning, thunder crackling on my skin I carve history on streets. Sneaking quiet tender as a beast, people bow down to the tremble I speak. My hair is a string of storm, raising up in the smell of abhor.  My flesh runs in a fire of lava and gold Fresh and real, like a snake I peel off my skin. Through the ashes I am reborn I stir and devour men with my breath of smoke Tingling, Fleeting like bright sun glow, I I am the revelation of today’s tomorrow. Scare, beware my lips a poison of reality Drunk to the liquor of skulls, I am flexed my body taken from an Agate stone Sinister smile I am a black onyx erratic and wild to every screech I keep. My finger on people’s lips Be still I come revolting crackers in my head I am the child of love, born with a stone in my bed. Come all you who dare, eyes like a cat, I will slit you naked with a stare I run the city wild, shouting the ecstasy burning beating in my head those who are laughing think I’m in despair. Shiver, I fly high, swiftly like a storm, I greet people with a blow. This is my confession, the true disclosure of lady leo limbo I am a magic dynamo, those who cut will bleed and disappear in my timid **** Walk, fly, run with me I’ll tie you in my body, those who whisper my name I’ll build you a cage and and in my presence, I’ll slowly poison your veins. Haven’t they told you of my stories, I am a natural force of misery masked in smooth ivory. The great fire I hold cuts swifter than a sword.

I Who would be A merman bold, Sitting alone Singing alone Under the sea, With a crown of gold, On a throne? II I would be a merman bold, I would sit and sing the whole of the day; I would fill the sea-halls with a voice of power; But at night I would roam abroad and play With the mermaids in and out of the rocks, Dressing their hair with the white sea-flower; And holding them back by their flowing locks I would kiss them often under the sea, And kiss them again till they kiss'd me Laughingly, laughingly; And then we would wander away, away, To the pale-green sea-groves straight and high, Chasing each other merrily. III There would be neither moon nor star; But the wave would make music above us afar-- Low thunder and light in the magic night-- Neither moon nor star. We would call aloud in the dreamy dells, Call to each other and whoop and cry All night, merrily, merrily. They would pelt me with starry spangles and shells, Laughing and clapping their hands between, All night, merrily, merrily, But I would throw to them back in mine Turkis and agate and almondine; Then leaping out upon them unseen I would kiss them often under the sea, And kiss them again till they kiss'd me Laughingly, laughingly. O, what a happy life where mine Under the hollow-hung ocean green! Soft are the moss-beds under the sea; We would live merrily, merrily.

Dust the base of my spine In red sparks of Jasper The cherry of a cigarette on a Smoky quartz Stability. And then you progress Caress my lower abdomen Make me contract and shake, in infinite bliss And lay me in a field of orange marigolds Sensuality. Stroke the naval centre - My life principles of power and identity Melted away In the honey calcite that drips in pearls Power. 528 Hertz, you vibrate The frequency that renews the very Physical matter of my vessel, My coded waves Love. My throat, where you talk your wisdom Lace my waist in agate And your hand circles the point of serenity Teeth in the butter soft skin Truth. And then you kiss me On the forehead between the eyes Those eyes that transform to yours, When I open my third, and see the indigo Insight. Shatter, shatter the shards through the finality The barrier of quartz and clarity And melt into my Sahasara And we become knowing. One.

Come, lovely cat, lie at my breast Cease your scratching and settle, Into your beautiful eyes let me rest Swirled with agate and metal. When my fingers caress you at leisure, Your head and your back's elasticity, And my hand tingles with pleasure At the spark of your electricity, In your spirit, I see my lover’s expression Like your own, amiable creature. Profound and cold, leaving a deep impression. And, from her head, across her features, A subtle air, a musky sin Floats about her dusky skin.

Translation: Le Chat (Baudelaire)
Do not be afraid of me. Do not think that just because I have skin made of diamonds that I cannot easily break. You see, I am surrounded by them, They protect me from the outside, But my diamond armor cannot block out everything. Diamonds do not protect my heart; I can still break, shatter, and be demolished at the slightest of hands. “Beautiful” they say; They watch me walking down the street, but can they not see the scarlet red filling up beneath it? Can they not see my mascara stained cheeks, and trembling hands? Or are they mesmerized still by my glittering appearance? Dazzled that I am so sparkling and vibrant in the sun; Completely unaware of my cry for help underneath the glistening gem shield. Do they not know that once I turn off the sun, I will look like a piece of ***** ice? That once I take off this mask I am just a simple broken girl? While I have been amazed to see everyone’s lack of attention at how worn I am; I have failed to see how broken everyone around me is. Once I finally took a step back to examine those around me, I noticed they were also sounded by their own magnificent gems; going Through things just like I am. I found a twenty-nine year old women thinking about What it was going to be like once her mother left her; she holds back her tears for The people around her, but once she gets alone she cries herself to sleep. She is surrounded by agate. There is a fourteen year old teenager Scared to death of what she might be. Terrified of herself. She carves into her skin like paint on a canvas; All I can think to say to her is “Let me save you please!” But she can’t hear me, I can’t get the words out. She is surrounded by eudialyte. All of these people around me Going through things I could never handle going through myself; These things happen to the people closest to me every day But I am too blinded with myself to see it. When did I become so self-centered? When did I, Start caring for myself when I should have been the one to save all these people around me, and their crumbling gemstones? One day I will write a book about how sorry I am to each of these people; But even then it will not make everything alright. So here is my message; Please whatever you do… don’t stop fighting… never stop. Fight for all of the people who cannot fight for themselves. You could save a life some day with that smile. You never know when you will save someone’s life. So don’t stop. Help me save everyone that I have failed, please.

Marbles
When his familiars’ pounced a little too roughly on the davenport, the mysteries of the cosmos flailed about as his soft, satin bag took a tumble… Citrine and agate tap-danced under the bed, as quartz whizzed wildly through the air like a shooting star. Opal spun about like a fiery pirouette, and amethyst – finding it’s way on the windowsill, bloomed a kaleidoscope of larkspur in the sun.

The Jewels in my Crown
Fire Agate Rendered at last,   with seamless lines     of every shade   and layer on top of layer As we know,   one burning tree     can set       it's forest aglow and so came her soul   with fire's inside     But with fire comes chaos Birches chirp   for consequential change     for her edge's       to chip away Then a Maple   , through sweet rustles,      asks for more Willows fume   fatal wishes     for the forest     to surrender,   for water over embers A Cypress follows   , with deep concern,       and begs to stand Ashes whisper   for another     just one more day But an Elm   seeks that same color     but within her   and to stay It's dangerous to dance   with this many tree's "One day,   maybe I'll break, and maybe someone,   maybe you,     will see between the waves   that meet at peak,     that fold into another, see why the cold sky   shy's behind the hot sun     but are drawn together, see below the clear surface   that deceives     by gifting you assumptions, see how clear agate   over hematite     gives you iridescence, see beyond the points   we know,     and please see   where a circle stops. Maybe you'll see   what I can't     , me"

Gather people for a story so profound, Not created by me, But a rare, rare reality, Where forces so profound converged, Generations forward were forever altered. Where one person's heroics were another's fatal error Where a family's love was smothered in the churning waters of Big Lagoon. Big Lagoon sits north of Agate Beach shining treasures can be found in the gathering sands To the west, The ocean rises and falls To the east, The lagoon's placid grassy waters roll. It was an Indian Summer's warm, warm day, Everything it promised was delivered. Two days after Thanksgiving, I remember it well, the fog was gone, the sun was high. A family dog beach walk Howard and Mary, Olivia, Gregory, every one called him Geddie, Geddie's girlfriend, Lily. The family dog, Fran, chasing sticks in the ocean and in the sand. Time stopped for a diamond moment, sun reflecting off the ocean. To chase a stick Fran ran a ten foot wave took her under. Geddie ankle deep edged forward when within that frozen moment another giant wave emerged the cliff that is the sand gave in, in the merciless embrace of the terrible wave, He was pulled under. Down the beach Howard ran plunged into the waters to save his son, He only found Kingdom come. While Geddie made his way out of those frozen waters and could not find his father, Called by what unknown voice, He dove back under, Not to be found for hours and miles later. What is the power of love which would propel each one? Mary watching this unfold could not abide their fate and herself plunged in for one last attempt at saving grace. The ocean says "Many have fallen in but few survive." Mary and Howard rolled in and out in that frozen water's breath. While Olivia and Lily frantically called 911 and struggled on the beach out of reach. The power of the ocean the power of love had made three one. 30 minutes later Fran ran out looking to play one more round. If by the Pacific Ocean you stand see urgent footprints in the sand, By chance you hear the plaintive cry of "Marco Polo" voices calling to one another, It is the ocean singing their last lullaby.
