I want a beautiful ring from you.

With rare stones and diamond encrusted too.

Are flowers too much to ask?

Or maybe just chocolates, 'cos I might be moving too fast.

"Emerging Economies"
Shlomo Oct 2018
Emerging economies.

What they’re emerging from I don’t know.

My guess, the depths of hell.

From the frying pan, right into the fire, or worse; a well.

A deep hole stronger than gravity, the force.

To be forever under the thumb of remorse.

A modern era of endless acts, policies and bla bla bla.

Shut up with all your platitudes.

I see what’s really going on. Aha!

You speak of sustainable development.

Nice to know that you’ve led by example.

Carried the mantle for all these years.

Centuries of ruthlessness, now veiled in sheep’s clothing.

But you won’t shut up. Because you don’t speak.

You never have. You just do.

Each day that goes by, you carry on anew.

Behind all the talk of hope, equality and more progress,

it seems the wolves are lurking.

Cooking up the next tool to subdue countless.

This time, not behind closed doors. But in plain sight.

It’s scary to imagine such spite.

Each year that goes by it becomes clearer that you never cared.

You sold guns, drugs and all kinds of war.

And each time, you kept coming back for more.

You’ve built up antibodies that ensure your survival.

But sometimes I wonder if you’re alive at all.

But what do I know?

Maybe you’re more alive than ever.

Doing what you do best but always more clever.

That not even the most stable of geniuses can evade your pressure.

A strong enough foundation that each break makes you stronger,

So strong that not even the Gremlin can take you under.

Against this dreary background, foregrounded is nothing short of magical.

Beyond hope, prayers or a thoughtless radical.

Or maybe this is all just fake outrage.

An attempt to evade the boredom of this endless monotony and baggage.

Or maybe, the term is out of date.

Like every other, that makes me increasingly more irate.

In which case, this poem is at least ten years late.

Or maybe there are too many maybes’.

And I’m perfectly suited for this time of vague uneasiness and indifference.

In which case, my imagination probably needs more sociology and less a lesson in rhymes.

Perpetual occupation. Thoughts o’Disgust.

A path into oblivion. Who can we trust?

5% of the world population.

20%, prison population.

More thoughts. More of disgust. Despair. Hope? Less.

And less! Each day I think I forget. Its there.

Orange TV show personality.

As the leader of the free world?! What kind

of world is that? What am I supposed t’think?

Oh right. Because he’s free to tweet trash, garbage,

putridness, calling everyone out other than himself,

calling people dogs? That’s freedom. No thank you.

In the meantime, go fix your ******* self!

Before you try to fix everyone else.
My first attempt at an iambic pentametre.

I’m everything and nothing

For where do I belong

Everywhere and nowhere

Life feels like death

To me, and it seems

Death feels like life

If only I could disappear

Gone from this earth

And slowly reappear, in hopes of a rebirth

To free myself from this pain

In a world of no disdain

With pleasure and infinite gain

This fickle life of endless monotony

I yearn to be free from;

To be in a world of transient diversity.

This skin that I love and hate,

In its real and abstract fate

Was once brown, now black to date.

It seems the winners are losing

In a backwards upside down world

Where the losers are winning.

If I could turn back the hands of time,

I’d go back to the year zeros

In hopes of a restart and some new heroes.

To take everything from the every ones;

Some Robin Hood type ****,

And give something to the no ones.

Are you serious? You can’t make this up.

Like seriously. You can’t make this stuff up!

You are not even trying anymore!

So that’s the guy you have chosen for sure?

Audacious. Your pure arrogance endures!

A tyrannosaurus. You’re kidding me.

Surely you could be more subtle than that.

That guy? Couldn’t find a ******* diplomat?

Politician? Lying through his teeth for nothing?

Jeez Louise lemon squeeze. Right into my eyes.

Starting to feel the pain from all your lies.

No longer Mr. Freedom and bla blaaa.

More like Mr. *******. And la la la.

La la la la la la la! Can’t hear you!

I’ll never trust anything you say or do.

*** I know you’re only looking out for you.

Freedom and justice.
Only if you're one of us, that is.
A shining star.
A beacon of hope.
The truth from afar, now seems like one of tropes.
https://shlomotion.co/poems/freedom-justice/

What does America stand for? Are we seeing its true colours unfold right before us, or is this just a blip in its continued dominance on the moral, intellectual and economic stage?

And…it’s here. A future. Agile? I was not enough to be.

Black in it’s entirety. A new beginning and a new ending.

Clockwork. As though a plan hatched by some supreme being.

Dear dog, which came first? Was it the white or the black?

Either way, it effortlessly taints your profoundly glorious genes.

**** this! Atrocious. Drugs?!

Goodness me. How did we get to this?

Horrible, dehumanising, and it’s here to stay.

“Suppresses”. But really only in the mildest of ways.

As if to constantly remind you of the control you once had.

Now ceded in it’s entirety to a tad bit of fad.

'Black'
Shlomo Jan 2019
Part I

When in doubt blame the black man.
Doubly so if it rhymes with that man,
the crack man. The cap man, the rack man. We got you on a lock man.
Shoot em, **** em, **** em up, all the way up!
Till he's nothing but black, man.

*** what could be worse than being black?
A half-man.
Ubiquitous; everywhere, but fits in with no man.
Woman? The last said there's something off about that man.

Part II

All I did was swipe right, and now it feels like a wrong turn.
"Maybe it's just not your turn yet."
Or maybe I'm trying too hard, with nothing but bad bets.
Feelings of desperation, manipulation is **** near perpetual.
**** it. I'm just tryna get another quotable, man.

Mouth-to-mouth resuscitation,

But they were very much conscious.

Loving every minute of vacation,

Thoroughly adventurous.

An act that seemed to revive not just their souls,

But every atom, cell and ***** in their bodies.

Lived for those nights huddled up in arms (Goals!)

Even though time just couldn’t care less.

Carelessly dashing by without regard (its new foes!)

Even as this act would lead to many more worries.

Fast forward now; and they craved it more than ever.

Would it happen again, or am I forever trapped in nevers?

Can’t handle the pressure, brain’s got a fever.

At this rate, gonna be swiping left and right forever.

Bones dry, deep down I crave love and connection.

Sorely waiting for those sparks to keep an *******.

More like an ***** sin.

Caught between a rock and a hard place.

A truth I once held close, feels like a lie I’m locked in

(I’m everything and nothing)

For where do I belong? Everywhere and nowhere

Except with my first love.

I long to meet someone like you.

Soft lips, beautiful eyes, luscious hair,

and a strong, gentle soul that softens the hearts of the hardest of men.

Killed! And now ceded in it's entirety to a tad bit of a fad.

Let me just turn back the hands of time!

My fate I leave with you alone.

Nothing seems to relieve this pressure and irreparable pain.

Oh God! Could I be spared such a destiny?

Prayers.

Queuing from my heart to yours.

Respectfully admonishing your power and grace.

Simply, do I ask for that childlike sense of serenity.

To take me to a place of restoration and hope.

Unlock my mind. Repair my soul. For vaults of this kind are too strong.

The Ubiquitous Boy
Shlomo Feb 2019
The scale of my ambition.

It’s getting too large to construct on my own.

Like many Africans, I’ve had enough.

News coverage showcasing this region.

Does nothing but reinforce the legion that you bring forth.

Continuously.

Now, I’ll spare you the analogies and set it out clearly.

To all those that are out to “end poverty”.

I applaud your initiative, your drive and determination.

So bear with me as I lay into you. I’m doing it out of love. Trust me.

Whenever I hear your mission.

I think “here we go again with the bare minimums.”

Nothing but bare minimums.

I yearn to be part of a new breed of Africans.

Who want to do more than just end poverty.

What about all those who have escaped its deathly grip.

But still live precarious and unfulfilled lives?

My mission is to build an empire.

To empower. To nurture innovation and prosperity.

One that surpasses anything you could ever imagine and conceive.

If you think that’s ridiculous and absurd.

Wait till you see how I plan on going about this deed.

If I hear another **** politician talking about “ending poverty.”

I swear I’ll ******* snap.

But don’t worry, it’ll just be a picture.

One more to my growing catalogue.

Reminding me of your never-ending plan of world *******.

“So remember guys, bare minimum. Say it with me.

“Bare minimum.”
Sorry if I hurt your feelings. That's not my intention. I'm just as passionate about this as you are.

Dreams & Nightmares
Shlomo Jan 2019
My dreams are made of kisses and cuddles

And nightmares of no Mrs and toddles

Reality is altered in a carbonated fizz

But I’m torturously lonely in this vivid whizz

A bizness man is what I dream to be

To be distracted from the love that you have for me

You claim to love me so dearly

But will you leave me one day seemingly seamlessly

I’m 28, but 18 seems so miles away

Thoughts of you got me feeling like (it was) yesterday

Only to live everyday like it was my last (to)day

With fingers crossed for dates on a Saturday

Waking up has me questioning

my existence and hopes of a better ‘morrow

With gold, myrrh, and some kissing in

To never have, and always yearn for more

I always dream for another me

One with love, respect, sense of dignity

Pushing me to a better me

Beyond the ‘mares, dreams, but in reality.

While you’re at it, add to that a ghosteater.

A ghostsleeper.

A ghostthinker.

Ghostlover.

Ghostdreamer.

Tottering. Tottering.

Tottering on the brink

of illiteracy,

was a man once known,

for his intellectual proficiency.

For brilliant no more he was,

as those days were long gone!

Once upon a time he was well known,

for his many exponential technologies,

From portable video projection hardware,

reconstruction surgical devices for the cochlear,

to software able to extract the deepest of thoughts.

Now, there he lay. There he lay!

Daily perpetuating and recapitulating the most misanthropic of idiocies.
