Her quiet footsteps in the dark
It was a cold, blistering night
Not knowing where she’s heading to
Oh, how it gave the little girl a fright

Any speck of noise was frightening
For she was all alone
A rustle in the bush
This little girl, only skin and bones

She turned a shark corner into the alley
A deathly breeze
Did she hear something?
She just wants to go home now, please?

Swoosh! Who’s there?
Her stomach starts to churn
A trashcan falls over
Her throat burns

A soft growl from behind
Slowing walking over
Hands trembling and sweating
Now where is her lucky clover?

The darkness coveted her
How could everything go so wrong?
Where’s all the good in the world
Like a sad old country song

My eyes are brown like his
My lips full like hers
My nose, a beautiful combination of both
My freckles are permanent unlike theirs which faded as they grew older
But they remind me of a youthful mother and a youthful father
A representation that I am a beautiful result of their once thriving love
A love I thought was indestructible
A love I thought would never die
A commitment I thought was stronger than steel
A commitment I thought would never have an expiration date
If my parents aren't together, how can I be?
Torn in two but left as one

My face,
A living reminder
Of what they
Should be
My favorite poet once said, "I have my fathers eyes and my mothers mouth; on my face they are still together."

I destroyed my body
for a peace of mind i never got.

It's amazing how at one point in my life
I will be extremely close with you and then
later you will become a complete stranger.
You passed me without a word,
without a single acknowledging look. But,
you were the person, who once knew me so well
that you knew all my dark secrets and saw me through.

You were the smell before the rain but
now you are the blood in my veins,
a heart without chains.
No one's going to kiss the pain away. It's miserable, tired and lonely.

you aren't human,
filled with fake
blood, just so you
can bleed and
haunt me.

I hate being vulnerable.
It’s terrifying.
Letting go of those emotions
that you work so hard to hide.
Every day, at some point,
I have to force down negative
emotions at the thought that someone
might see and know that I am not
the strong person I show myself
to be. That I am weak and that
I am struggling.
I hate being vulnerable.
It entails opening up to someone
and telling them all those *****
little secrets that you desperately
seek to hide.
Being raw with someone.
But at the same time,
it sounds beautiful.
To be able to find someone
who you can be vulnerable with.
That trust.
That raw, unadulterated trust.
How can you know
when you have found the right person?
Can you know?
It’s terrifyingly beautiful.
I crave it.
I fear it.
Whatever I share could
be used against me.
They could laugh in my face and
mock my pain.
They could kick my dreams
in the dust or
never
speak
to
me
again.
I could be rejected.
But, I could be accepted.
I could be loved.
Respected.
Understood.
**It’s terrifying.
It’s beautiful.

Life
To me life is terrifying
Some people may fear death,
or the unknown
but I fear life.
Not physically living
Just the concept.
At any point in time
you can completely alter your life.
Cut all of your hair off
Go work out
Talk to that certain someone
Your life is really at the mercy of your own hands.
And that terrifies me.

My dear,
I've just had the most terrifying thought.
One that sends shivers down my spine,
And not the good kind of shivers.
The ones that jab at you in the dark.
The ones that come from boogie men
And monsters under the bed.
This thought,
This fear,
It hits me like a swift kick to the chest
For just a split second.
And then I hear it running away from behind me,
Fleeting footsteps echoing into the distance.
Still partially audible.
This thought,
This fear,
Flees like a mischievous child.
After shouting directly into my ear cavity:
What if you never found her?
The thought nearly stops me in my tracks.
I am the person I am because of her place in my life.
What if I never even met her?
I can barely imagine the idea of this bliss
Somehow not existing.
Maybe another me in some parallel universe
Is truly alone.
I feel sad for her,
That she will never know this
Swirling,
          Terrifying,
                  Mystifying,
                            Incredible feeling,
Something that everyone deserves to feel.
Free will spins a complicated spider web.
Every decision you make
Affects you and the others around you,
Either holding them up or pulling them down.
What if I'd made a different choice,
Just one minuscule detail.
What if I'd turned right instead of left,
Or used pencil instead of pen,
Or carried paper instead of plastic?
One wrong move could have led me off the path to you.
The thought makes me want to drop down to my knees
And thank God
That I decided to lift the branches and find this hidden walkway
Into an unknown territory
That so quickly became
Familiar.
Home.
LDR life.
