Back to school
Swathi eruvaram Mar 2020
A mute wave, an airy kiss, an empty hug
A silent vow made few inches apart
The beginning of yet another first day to school
Back to school can be tough on everyone. A poem I write a while ago.

First Knot
Swathi eruvaram Mar 2020
A twirl of blue satin tugged between your fingers
Twining hard trying to keep it intact
Crossing over, squeezing under and pulling out
Learning to make your first knot
Finding bliss in a tangled ribbon
My son learnt to make a knot

Hate
Swathi eruvaram Aug 2016
Few thoughts make me cry
Few thoughts make me sigh
Few thoughts make me feel why
I wish I could stop thinking
The more I think, I keep sinking
Bad memories are making my brain itching

I am waiting...
Swathi eruvaram Aug 2016
When will you come
I hate to wait
Why is it taking you so long
I think its late
Mom says you are six months away
But...
I wish to celebrate
So, come soon
I am waiting...
My son is waiting to celebrate his next birthday

Tired
Swathi eruvaram Jan 2016
Quiet everyone
Atleast for a moment
Walk away from my thoughts
For once...
I want
My mind to think for me
And
My heart to beat for me
Please
I am tired of all the thoughts that twist my brain

Baby massage
Swathi eruvaram Nov 2015
My hands and your body meet
You ask for more
I massage every inch neat
You say there is more
I think what did I miss
You say 'Mama, my teeth'
Huh!?

Touch
Swathi eruvaram Nov 2015
An univited visitor
Her presence is ignored
But she is everywhere
We stay with her
She is visible at times
Sometimes, just felt
But everyone is touched by her
The touch of nature
Today my son wanted the clouds to part so he could see the sun. But when the sun shone, he said he just wanted to see the sun and not feel him.

Happiness wins!

Swathi eruvaram Nov 2015
You asked for many kisses
I gave them to you
When I was done giving
You walked slowly
I asked you what happened
You said the kisses made you heavy
Imagine if kisses really made you heavy. A unique thought in my childs mind.

Favourite
Swathi eruvaram Nov 2015
I ask you "Who's your favourite"?
You pause for a second
Then you start thinking and search for an answer
And you say "You"
But you already lost me there when you paused
I thought your love for me had no clause
But no matter what, you are my only favourite

Paper square
Swathi eruvaram Nov 2015
Two petite boats made from an old piece of paper are ready to swim
You eagerly watch as I drift them in

Its raining, its pouring
Our boats are sailing
Tiny ripples make the water a trampoline
But the boats manage not to dive in

Aye aye I am the captain
Quit drowning yourself in
For my son loves to see you sail
And I would love to see him smile

First step
Swathi eruvaram Jul 2015
The water glows in the evening light
A pool of isolation and looks like you are the king
The wind is welcoming
The pigeons are fluttering
Don't let the fear eat you up, don't let it in

Be your best as you have always been
Take a step, take a step, I am with you
Don't hold back, don't turn away
Just let your body sway
It's time to take those first steps again

No right, no wrong, just get along
You and water will be one
Take a step, take a step, rest will begun
Water never bothered you anyway
Just let your little body sway

Strolling in the water tell me how you feel
I sure can see your eyes glow in happiness hard to seal
Let me never see you cry again
Remember I will never leave your side
Just like a fish in water, in you my love resides
My son's first brave attempt to walk in the pool water. A beginners attempt to learn swimming soon.
Lyrics inspired from the song 'let in go' from the movie Frozen

Something caught my eye
Two doodled stars on your arms
A reward for performing great
Stars are not out of reach
If YOU are the star
My son is the star in his class

Steam
Swathi eruvaram Jul 2015
Hands and legs clenched tight
You and me sit uptight
The bedsheet becomes a safety tent
Enclosing turmerics powerful scent
Circled in a misty atmosphere
Giving you the first time fear
Sweating off the cold
Undergoing a remedy thats centuries old
Inhaling steam - a home remedy for common cold

Home-to school-to home
Swathi eruvaram Jul 2015
Strolling on unknown streets
Ignoring strange glances
Neglecting salty sweat stains
I pick up pace gasping for air
How about I surprise you with something!

Clickety click on my phone
Oh there's time, I can take a jigety jog
Scorching sun, racing vehicles, smoky air, dusty path
I walk and walk and walk
Up, down, across
My thirsty throat calls for a drink
But I have no time to think

Here is where I can get the play doh
Wow, moulds, roller, cutter and more
Some flourescent sheets for craft
And a new book hows that
Done so where's the next one
Ah, there I see, hunky dory
Two perfect caps and some body lotion will just do
All done now all I do is run
Back to school... back to school as fast as I can
Common legs! Ignore the pain just think you can

I enter the gate and you steal a quick glance of me
Oh man, but there is another minute or two to be
You tap on the glass and sob in tiny tears
I rush within to pick you up and help you let go off your fears
Some words, a hug and few kisses do the rest
You see the bags in my hand and smile your best
A teary thank you and a happy one
Now lets go home, school is done

Beware
Swathi eruvaram Jun 2015
Tears are pouring
My hands wipe them often but they come back again
Just like raindrops reappearing after every swish-swish of the wipers

No one to console me
No one thinks its worth my tears
But I can't withstand anything bad even if it were just words
If it is about you

What they sow so shall they reap
Every word that struck deep
Will only be theirs to keep

The almighty is with you and me
And will always be
I love my son and I hate hearing one word wrong about him

Waiting...
Swathi eruvaram Jun 2015
I am alone
I am idle
I have nothing to do
I have nothing else to think of
Rhymes fill my ears from a distance
Sounds startle me often
My neck aches looking at the clock above
I count each minute
I am as tired as the hand that goes around in it
60 more rounds to go
I wish I had a fast forward button to press
I just wait for you to appear
All alone at the playschool lobby

Come to me
Fill my empty hand with yours
Fill my barren heart with happiness
Fill my silent lips wih a smile
Fill my lonely soul with a hug

Come to me my baby

A little dirt never hurt
Swathi eruvaram Mar 2015
Mr. Golden sun casting long shadows
Salty breeze hitting across
Acres of sand lying beneath our feet
Ups and downs like craters on the moon
Crows cawing, horses galloping and dogs basking in the sun
A straight line of ocean doodled below the empty sky
Gigantic ships appear like miniatures farther away
Hushing sound of waves
Four feet amidst frothy tides creating footprints
Carrying back some rustic soil on the toes
A little dirt never hurt
A bag of sea shells
Small, big, coloured and white, all with a coat of sand
A bag full of sea shells
The sun sets down
The radiant moon creates a guiding path in the dark shore
Following us back home
After a long evening at the beach
With my dear son

My Play-Doh heart
Swathi eruvaram Feb 2015
I made a heart out of Play-Doh
Handed it to my son
Said I LOVE YOU
He gazed at it for a while
Then squeezed, poked, pinched, patted and rolled it
There was no sign of what it's original form was
But that's my heart
No matter how you treat it
It still loves you, beats for you and lives for you
Love you baby
