Goodbye Teen Years
R May 2017
It's strange
how childhood felt
like a train ride
that would never stop
like reading a book
with an infinite number of pages

But now you're 19-turning-twenty
and the train has finally
come to a definite stop
the tracks have changed its path
and you've reached the end
the epilogue

It's time to move on
move along and grow up
step off that train
and on to the next adventure
close that book
and start a new chapter

Be brave and brace yourself
for there is more to come
beginnings can be daunting
because it also means
saying goodbye to a life
you've lived and loved.
Note to self.
Happy 20th to me.
hello adulthood I don't want to be here

Ruins
R Jun 2016
walk inside this body
find the places where
I am most damaged, shattered
love me, cherish me there
and let me forgive this body
for abandoning itself

Danke Schön
R May 2016
You gave me conversations
I otherwise would never have
You let me talk about the things
I've always wanted to talk about
but just couldn't find the right listeners
You've let me be my geeky self
and you listen to all my weird stories
about art, travels, music and literature
the same way I listen intently to yours
In a way, you allowed me to grow
you allowed me to see the world
through your own light brown eyes
and your own wonderfully delicate words
and I'm thankful for the weekends
we've spent roaming around the city
trying not to get too lost while still having fun
In your impending departure, I wish you well
no matter where you are in the world
I hope you'll remember your friend
your skinny little friend who loves sugars
and museum walks and philosophical talks
I hope I've touched your life
the way you've touched mine
It's an imprint I will always cherish
Auf wiedersehen, mein freund.
Til we meet again.
I will miss your funny stories, C.  Hope we'll be in touch for a long while. )

Longing ~
R Mar 2016
You are
    memorable
       to me
              and
        I was
          probably
                      just
          another face
                in the crowd
            for you.

What happened to you?
R Feb 2016
We are galaxies
each of us have the stars
within ourselves but you
you're different
the stars are just in your eyes
the vast nothingness
is in your mind and soul
what happened to you?
what God-awful thing could've happened
to someone like you?
I've always thought of you as the sun
and I'm just a forgotten planet
revolving around you
never even tried to get near
because I'm afraid to be burnt.

On Love
R Feb 2016
Love reveals you
it makes your soul crawl out
from where it's hiding
it is stored not in photos
but in certain smells, textures,
food and times of day
it's a memory that never fades
Love is a reverse addiction
it will consume you
all the parts of you
even those you didn't know existed
it's like if you fall in love with a voice
you'll never want to hear
anything else, ever again.
We were asked in class a simple question, "What is love?" and this is my answer.

Hurricanes
R Jan 2016
Of course hurricanes
are named after humans
We are the definition of disaster
We brew the storms in our heads
and allow the winds to stir
the storms in our hearts.

Too Much
R Jan 2016
This will sound stupid
and it is definitely dumb
but I don't know
how else to say it
so I will:
I'm just a little gold fish,
and you
are air.
Too much of you will **** me.

Why do sad people write?
R Jan 2016
we write when we're at our weakest
we write when we've been cut open
we write when we're bleeding
we write when we're dying inside

Not all those who write are sad,
but all sad people write.
You may not agree with this, but generally, it is true.

You're an onion.
R Nov 2015
You're made up of layers
more than a hundred of them
but when you peel a few
they thought they already know you
impressed, appalled to see you
baring your soul, opening yourself
and you find it funny
and you find it kinda sad
because to you it's nothing
like a small scratch on a surface
nothing but just a few layers off
and you have a hundred more to go.
Feels.

Cold Hands, Warm Heart
R Nov 2015
I don't know you
I don't know how you feel right now
or how you feel about the current state of the nation
I don't know how you like your coffee
or whether you prefer drip over pressed
I don't know the lyrics to your favorite songs
or if you like progressive rock or indie
I don't know your favorite restaurant
or if your prefer Chinese takeout and fast food
I don't know where your next adventure will be
or if you prefer to stay at home
I don't know if you like mayonnaise
or whether you like mustard on your hot dog sandwich
I don't know what you think about in the shower
or what you think about when you're washing the dishes
I don't know what keeps you up at night
or if you're the kind of person who falls asleep right away
I don't know your deepest most vulnerable secrets
or your hopes and dreams and your crazy ideas
what I do know is your heart
and maybe they tell you you have no feelings
that you can't be moved or touched
but I know that not showing them
doesn't mean you don't have them at all
we have the same heart and that's okay
everything will be okay.
I don't know about this poem but it felt good writing it.

You Are Fire.
R Oct 2015
the wind blows like
there is a tremendous fire
it has to put out and it is afraid
not to give its very best

but the problem with the wind
is it doesn't see anything else
except for that raging fire
blindly damaging everything around it

now when I walk the streets I see the wreck
the fallen branches and the leaves
and the uprooted trees that
the furious wind left in its wake

sometimes, people are like the wind
and you are the burning fire
everything around you might vanish
but you will still be there, raging on.*

I hope you will still be there.
Let the wind fuel the fire within you.
be strong. #LandoPH

The Wars We Fight
R Oct 2015
everyone's at war
with different things,
with each other,
and with themselves

nations are at war
our families, at war
our friends, at war
we are at war

but the hardest
war of them all
is the war between
the mind and the heart.
Happy National Poetry Day! :)

Moments
R Oct 2015
I fell in love with the mornings
and waking up to breakfasts in bed
drinking coffee only you would know how to make

I fell in love with noon
and the lunches we had together
talking about the latest news over takeout

I fell in love with the afternoons
and the times we spent reading on the couch
eating every word interrupted by coffee stains

I fell in love with the nights
and our stupid little adventures
driving aimlessly and getting lost on the highway

I fell in love with the midnights
and talking to you about anything and everything
watching you stare at my mouth listening to every word

I fell in love with the moments
and everything in between the beginning and the end
wishing I could still spend them with you

I fell in love with the sound of your voice
and the feel of your existence
but I am not in love with you.

The Girl
R Oct 2015
I don’t want to be the girl of your dreams. I don’t want you to put me on a pedestal because we all know pedestals crumble and break under pressure. I don’t want you to think of me as someone who’s out of your league. I don’t want to be the girl you secretly admire when you can’t muster enough courage to say it out loud. I don’t want you to think of me as the one who got away when in the first place, you never got a hold of me. I’m not going anywhere and this is going nowhere. I just want to be the girl you think of years from now when your hair is already gray, when your eyes are tired and you’re stirring your morning coffee, thinking that you should’ve poured less creamer in order to resemble my dark brown eyes.
to the future
