A Goddess
Meenu Syriac May 2014
When the first rays of the sun is cast on you through the venetian blinds
Your hair, a golden hue, in curls they tumble and fall on to your sides.
Your skin, a tanned wonder, Aphrodite will envy with her immortal soul
And your wild and untamed spirit, through your eyes, even Artemis will fall.
Your voice is like honey and works magic to the heart and mind
As you sit there, by the window and sing till the heavens will open and the gods descend down.

Stargazing
Meenu Syriac Mar 2014
Look up to the sky
See prickles of light
And crystals hanging by
Some invisible thread.
Dance lightly
Under the star lit sky
A slow ballad
For our ballroom dancing.
Hear your slow breathing
Feel your arm around me
Hear your heart beat flutter
This touch of fantasy.
Twist and turn
And sway to your side,
Gently moving
Through our dreamscape.
Open my eyes
What dreams I paint,
There we lie
Underneath the star lit sky.
The wind in my hair and
Your chocolate brown mane.
The lights of some faraway city
Nothing brighter than our sky.
This cold winter's night
Lets forget the cruel world.
Under the cover of stars,
Tell me your story
I'll tell you mine.
Meenu Syriac May 2014
Being a woman is hard.
Actually,
Being a woman
You expect me to be
Is hard.
Being who I am,
Well now,
That's really easy.

So society tells me
I should be thin
Maybe look like 'em supermodels
I guess since
That's not happening
I'll go drown my "sorrows"
In a box of ice cream.

Be beautiful
By putting all that mush on my face?
Sorry, no thank you
I'll pass.
I'll be me with all my spots, marks
Freckles and all.

Because you see,
What I am,
Well the genes,
Were handed to me,
By the two most beautiful people
In the world,
Yes, freckles and all.

I am independent
I am smart
I dont need to look like a clown
To please your senses.
I'm much more than
What's on the surface.
So if you wanna like me
Its a package deal,
Freckles and all.
Its very imperfect, but what the heck, I just wrote what came to my mind. This one's for the ladies. Yes, feel beautiful, be beautiful. Be who you are.
Have a good day :)

Ungrateful
Meenu Syriac Mar 2014
Is the sky too blue for you
Or the seas too vast
Or your life too full
And your loved ones always beside?

Are you too happy
And that you sulk about that?
What is your vindication for
Your qualms being selfish?

What gives you the blind eye
When everyone else struggles?
What makes you cry
For the little things in life?
And you complain that life's unfair
When you have a roof overhead
And a family that smiles.

Veil of Ignorance
Meenu Syriac Sep 2014
Dying thoughts of a mind lost in pace,
Stars on a dark night, silent whispers in play,
Embers of a life, all that is left of the chaos, deranged.
Heartless words of a world consumed with hate,
Shadows singing a serenade,
Did the fire burn your soul away?

Hiding behind the lie of life's enduring "honor",
Pride and dignity, a mask of ignorance, a veil for the society ,
Listen to the song, the children, they sing.
Protect your honor, but have you lost all sense of humanity?
Sacrifice morality, much prized possession lies in wait,
What about brotherhood, has the greed, yet, consumed your honesty?

Listen to the song, the children, they sing,
Hear it fade with the sound of the world outside,
Hear it no more, lost to the noise of our souls enslaved.

When Good Men Go To War
Meenu Syriac Jan 2015
'Tis easier to look at a mirror
Than to dare introspect,
As the reflection subdues
The deceit buried in a tangled web of lies.
As the light dances on ripples in the water,
The shimmer it casts
To a void that is our souls.
There's darkness all around,
In our hearts and in our minds.
And in times like these
When our thirst is quenched with only more fire,
Our thoughts become inked in red,
Reminded of the weakness of our fortitudes,
And the shallowness of our words,
Let alone be our deeds.

The story of how a good man goes to war,
Lost to the morals of an unsound mind,
Resounds like a thunder in the midst of nowhere.
And as he raised his hand
And plunged a knife
Into the very heart of another his kind,
There he lost himself to the deafening screams of mankind.

And we find ourselves without voices
Drowning in a sea full of tears.
There is ONLY us,
THIS is all us...
OUR tragedies
OUR failures
OUR deeds.
We let ourselves fall,
**Even before the walls came tumbling down.

Tea, biscuits and Humanity
Meenu Syriac Apr 2014
Watching her sit with her crossed legs
And her gaze upwards
Like the world is too petty
For her eyes to surrender.
She was magnificent, yes
But her looks feigned a lie
Her eyes could **** with intense fire
Her scent was amicable
For her preying hands
And if a being so unfortunate
Crosses her path
Or meets her eyes
She springs like a cheetah
And rips them apart,
Metaphorically, of course.

.......

My eyes wander off

.......

His frenzied looks
And unshaved face
Ruffled up clothes
Looks like he has had his worst day
Wonder what's got him so worked up
Must be a hangover
Must have had a drink too much
Last night
Yes, I can see a wife
Beaten up in an alcohol-fueled mania.
But those petunias in his hands
Beautiful
What a contrast to the man himself
A mistress?
Or an attempt to gain forgiveness
From his wife?

.......

Sipping the best local tea
Sit back
And let my mind have its spree

.......

Pick pocket
Such an adorable face
Blue-eyed, her tiny hands
Slipping in and out
Procuring knick knacks and wallets.
Life was never fair
Mother's sick and in a tarpaulin roofed
Shack off the main street.
Dad's a drunk
And she's had enough with that nonsense.
Her timed precision  and skilled fingers
Workings its way for a loaf and
The extra change for her mother
Curled up like a ball
In pain.

.....

Change for the tea
And morning paper.
Picking up a stride
Take a left from the plaza
Into a throng of living bodies,
And to be one among
The many lives
Toiling,
Living,
**Breathing.

Rapunzel: Life untold
Meenu Syriac Jun 2014
Sitting by the window,
The maiden looks out to the garden.
Running fingers through her hair,
Twirling, twisting, curling, braiding.
And the cuckoos sing while spring flowers bloom,
As the morning light hits the dew kissed leaves.
She lets out a sigh, almost a whisper,
Dreaming, wondering, wishing, crying.
Rapunzel, waits, by the window,
For spring to find its way into her life.
Rapunzel, waits, to let her hair down.
To see the end of this strife.

Unchained and free
Meenu Syriac Mar 2014
The wind blows this way,
Silence of the night keeps me sane.
The truth, I sit and ponder
As my life beats away.
Too many moments forgotten in pain,
Undocumented, unwanted,
Shelved in some corner
No one to care.

Listening to the wind blow
Rustling leaves and banging windows.
This mind of mine has wandered too far.
The world, I shunned
The people I left.
Maybe another soul,
Who'd love to join me
As I walk this realm
Unchained and free.

A Dreamer Under The Moon
Meenu Syriac Jun 2014
I'm just a dreamer under the moon
Etching out lines on a paper, no one knows.
They see me in another world,
Far off, aloof, distant and forlorn.
You look at me, with the eyes of a spectator,
Do I look so funny to you?
Can you see these sad eyes,
Watching you make no difference
As you go on with your taunts
And poorly worded chants?
I'm a dreamer, with a world inside my head
I can create a magic, within.
Then bring it out with just some words.
I am a dreamer, under the moon,
Penchant to writing,
Adding colors and dimensions
To dimly lit corridors,
To green fields that
welcome the morning sun.
Painting darkness and light with
The subtle strokes of my mind.
Sculpturing a woman or a man
Their life, and all their strife.
I am a dreamer, under the moon
The pen, to me, is definitely
*Mightier than the sword.

Starlight
Meenu Syriac May 2014
You're a starlight I caught myself gazing at,
I can paint you with colors of the night.
Looking out the window
You're that star in the sky
That shines the brightest.
So elegant, I can see your slight twinkle
Like you're doing your own dance.
I can almost see it now,
How when I see you,
My self, deep inside
All I want to do
Is join you in that dance.
Behind these walls I'll stay
And fall into this trance .
I'll gaze at you and weep
My soul is trapped,
No wings of freedom
No joy to make me leap.
With every passing moment
I paint you with the colors of the night.
I know every star that adorns the sky
Every diamond that dots the nightscape.
But in this cage I'll sit and watch
You're the one star I wish upon,
Every night.
I don't know what's with me and the night sky today.

As She Burns You
Meenu Syriac Jul 2014
As the light touches her skin,
A fire deep within,
Ablaze to set free, your desires.
And in the light of the moon she lies
Ethereal beauty,
The queen,
On *****, she breathes her fire.
Purifying the soul,
Her eyes burn,
Deep within your whole.
The night she claims her own
A magical spell to weaken you.
You, oh Icarus,
Fly too close to the sun.
And in her arms you lie,
Charmed and bewildered,
Wanting for more.

She
Meenu Syriac Mar 2017
She
She is a storm, an earthquake
Loud and thunderous.
That relentless, fervent soul,
Spitting flames that burn you whole. Dreamer, believer
With roots that entwine deep with the ground
And branches that tower high above.
She can walk on fire,
Leave you breathless for more.
She was once you and me,
Trading dreams for convenience,
Love for dignity,
And freedom for survival.
But for every chain that bound her,
Every cage that held her,
She rose higher and higher.
A warrior stands under the burning sun,
And somewhere beyond the valley,
The rhythm of a revolution
Begs to be heard.
She has a voice now,
And she will never stop.

Hear them cry
Meenu Syriac May 2014
I could fall to the ground and forget that it hurts
When I see them smile, I know the pain that is supressed.
Drowning beneath a shadow of endless regrets,
What they are, where they come from, a nation begets.

Hiding behind a veil of corruption,
Unknowingly had them intercede.
Rising smoke, from a burning soul,
Hear their cries, they hide, yet plead.

How can you pass them, not notice their tears and agony?
Is your life that beautiful, you can't stop and extend a hand?
Building cities, empires, and fools, you complain!
Why, the minute you let your feet touch the ground,
You'll see what the world looks like,
Behind that mask of glittering facade.
As a medical student, studying in a rural place, I see them everyday.. Its so heartbreaking to know there are people lying in filth and have no roof above their heads. Of course, by my writing it down, no help will find their way.. But if by reading this, people take it as a cue to act, then I know there is a difference, that can be made.

Left our hopes back at home,
Couldn't pick up the broken pieces,
Or shed tears, that we haven't already.
Left our dreams back home,
And now there's no going back.

I Am Not A Poet
Meenu Syriac Jun 2015
I am not a poet
But when thoughts, like rain,
Drench me in my solitude,
Words, they flow like a stream.
I am not a poet
But how can I see
The simpler joys of life,
And not create a song to be sung.
I am not a poet,
Nor an artist.
I am myself,
And you are my masterpiece.
I am not a poet,
If you are not the dream.
If I am a poet,
*Then you are what sets these pages on fire.

Never.
Meenu Syriac May 2017
I keep my words to myself.
Hidden, locked,
Buried under the earth.
Quiet, they say.
Don't you ever want to talk to us?
Open your soul to us?

I do.
All
The
Time.

And in moments like these,
A few may escape.
As poetry,
That barely tells the story.
As poetry,
That rarely makes sense.
Dented,
Tainted,
Stuttering,
Like a broken record.

But are you listening?

Skin deep
Meenu Syriac Jul 2019
I look at her,
her sad eyes and juvenile wrinkles.
A face riddled with scars and red bumps,
interweaved with healed and unhealed flesh.
I wish I didn't care about what I see in the mirror.

I wish I didn't care about how my skin feels against my fingertips,
or what I see when I search for my reflection.

They talk about loving yourself
but how can I,
when all I see is a hideous monster?
I know,
I know.
There are sorrows much painful,
woes more pertinent than mine.
But how do I tell my mind to stop crucifying itself?

How do I diffuse these electrical impulses,
from my eyes to my brain,
carrying an image of my face and interpreting it as
unnatural,
ugly,
pitiful?

I wish I didn't spend so much time,
trying to wash this dirt off me,
trying to pick and probe at the scabs,
when I know it's a part of me,
arising from me.

How do I stop myself from judging my worth
as the sum of these scars
that lie skin deep?
Meenu Syriac May 2014
Was it so long ago
Under the old oak we built our dreams?
So tiny, we were,
The world seemed like such a big place
For two dream chasers, like us.

Was it a thousand years ago
When you in all your innocence
Said that you'd check under the bed
In all your childish valor, and clear me of my fears?

Do you remember,
When we sat by the cold stream
With the water running through our feet,
How you picked up a few daisies
And crowned me as the queen?
And how I picked up a stick
And made you my knight of honor?

Remember running back home,
When it got too late,
Scared your old man, a drunk,
Will beat your Ma and make you cry?
How when I waved good bye from the next door,
All I hoped was that you'll make it out alive
The next day.

Was it so long back,
When we lay in green fields
And looked up to the blue skies,
Dreaming one day, we'll make it up there
And never have to look back in tears?

Flying paper planes and trying to catch our dreams
Doesn't seem so long now,
That you said goodbye
*And made it first to what lay beyond the blue skies.

Utopia
Meenu Syriac Apr 2014
Its a little dark here
This illusion I created for myself.
This place I thought was perfect
Has turned into my nightmare.
My fears are bigger
And are haunting me as I cry.
I see a cathedral at the end of the road
With the three moons rising behind.
I walk down the lane
In shuffling steps of fright.
There's the creak of the gates
As I open and enter in to the night.
My life on halt
I'd like this to end
I no longer know myself.
The sky is clouded
There's lightening in the distance,
The only light, from the three heavenly bodies
Looming in the sky
I feel the eyes of a beast
Watching me as I enter.
I pull the door open
Oblivious to what lies inside
Feel the sweat down my back
And the lump in my throat .

A bright light bursts from inside
Blinding my eyes.
I catch myself from falling
From the mere impact.
There's an altar at the centre
I make my way through .
There lies my body
Lying like a living sacrifice.
I know not the meaning
Nor the reason
For the tears in my eyes.
All I know is my illusion was this light
The darkness outside trying to invade,
My only hope of being all I am.
I am not the darkness outside
Nor am I ruled by my fears.
My light prevails through all dark times
And keeps the faith in myself intact.
Here, where the light shines,
This is my Utopia.
Faith and hope, at the end of the day, keeps us going.

The Dragon's Lair
Meenu Syriac Jun 2014
Whispers in the night,
*Silent but beckoning.

Shadows fall,
Breathing out smoke,
As a calling.
See the winds rise,
Ever so subtle,
Even death can ****** a man.
By the riverside I stand
My eyes fall upon
This god forsaken land.
The beast in its slumber,
But in its wake, comes death,
A tyrant breathing out fire.
As the river flows
A deluge into the dragon's lair,
Buried within the mountain.
The weary and trodden,
Their cries echo thru the night.
The shadows sing a serenade,
To the silence that reigns the dark.
The beast lies within.
Fire and hell

Old Man by the Fire
Meenu Syriac Sep 2014
What do you see, old man, sitting alone by the fire?
Heartless world of scorn and hurt , treasuring hate like a philosopher's stone.
Judgment passed, greybeard by the road,
Must be a thief, waiting for the night to dawn.

His sunken eyes know the way into the dark
As evil forbearing comes with the folds in his hand
Wrinkles on his face, countless tales to recount
How he crept thru the darkness, still and quietly,
And watched as the baby cried with fear.

How shallow this world, with its looks and half learnt lessons,
The old man by the fire, his tales of a world so far from this.
Child, learner, lover and father
His sunken eyes reveal the times he's forgiven with a heart, so grand.
With his very hands, he's cared and worked for the ones he loved
His wrinkles recount tales of a life well served.

But now, he sits, alone by the fire,
Disowned, refused,
Unwanted, forgotten.
Caught up in the web of the world,
Buried in the sands of time.

Blood and Dust
Meenu Syriac Apr 2015
I dream,
Let me slumber, kind heart.
Stare into the fire,
Burn your eyes with the truth.
As a falling star turns to dust,
Dreamers will awake
To the sound of an ending world.

I cry,
Sing to me, minstrel.
A tear will flood this barren land
Our hearts have run dry of love.
Listen as the sisterhood prays,
Shouting out to the gods
That forgot us.

I crawl,
In the dark, take me.
These wounds have turned septic,
With the poison in our veins.
Read my lips as I sing of a battle,
A page out of an endless book,
Written with the sins we bled.

I forget,*
Enlighten me, lost soul.
Have the gates been closed,
Have we lost all hope?
Blood and dust,
Pain and misery,
Where have all the good men gone?
Maybe not a biblical apocalypse, but one has to just look around and see that humanity has lost its way.

Three Feathers In Her Hat
Meenu Syriac Jun 2014
Three feathers in her hat,
Highbrow society
Her nose held high
Her cheeks blushed pink.
Three feathers in her hat
Heels clicking loudly
Bags tumble in her hands
As she makes her way out.

One feather out,
Picked up by the wind,
Landed in a trash bin
Out in the city dump.
So much for all the luxury
That it couldn't have a go at.

Two feathers in her hat
Highbrow society
Her hair tucked neatly
With bob pins and bands.
Two feathers in her hat,
Won't let her hair out free
At home she dwells
Under her father's authority.

Second feather flies off in the air
Out beyond the harbor
And lands gently on a dock.
Unlike herself, this one found a way
To sail away in to the seas.

One feather in her hat
Looking miserably lonely
All that gold ain't glitter
Her mom never told.
One feather in her hat
Relentlessly waiting to go
That one feather in her hat
Made all the fashion statement
There was to know.

A Pot of Gold
Meenu Syriac Mar 2015
A vast endless plain, wet from the storm and the hail,
Rolling hills with a perpetually infinite progression of scenery.
Here, the rules of life, are those in a game of cards,
Play well, forget not, with each turn of the wheel.
And at the horizon, beyond the reach of man or beast,
After the heavy grey and rain,
Forms a rainbow, a bridge with the dreams.
This storm passed, long before the shadows could haunt,
What to fear, my mind at peace,
Yet here I stand in a soulless valley,
Where is that *** of gold, they promised,
At the end of the colour scheme?

A Woman of No Fears
Meenu Syriac Mar 2015
She stood in the middle of the courtyard
Her arms outstretched, embracing life,
What little she knew of it.
In the rain, she let her bonds fall to the ground,
This sense of freedom, if only for a moment,
She wanted it to be her own.
That brief time, between fearing and dreaming,
She let herself loose.
As the rain washed the blood and the mud,
Her soul needed the cleansing, she thought.
For the first time in years, she chose not to look for scars,
She forgot the pain.
In this big house, she was a prisoner.
Prisoner of rites and beliefs,
Of men and patriarchy.
And only when the rains came to visit,
Did she forget the cruelty and the evil.
Only then, did she believe of balance and equilibrium,
Only then, did she wish for rights and freedom.
In her dreams she saw a much better world,
Outside these four walls.
And in those dreams,
She wasn't a prisoner of fate or creed,
She was a woman of no fears.
In the light of all that is happening in India...

Mirrors
Meenu Syriac May 2014
This is you,
Its about you, how you adorned a veil
And hid beneath it all your life.
When the deepest of your thoughts,
Turned and gave their evil smile,
All you could think was how much
In the dark, you could be who you are.
And looking at the mirror
All you could see were the scars.
The despair in your voice
Sadly no one bothered to give you a hand.
You'd pluck at yourself all day and night
Thinking what you see is all that there is to what you are...

This is me, myself and I
This soul behind the skin, no longer has a voice, a heart
An undertone, I choose to hide in the dark
This mirror lies, but I can't see through that
Clawing at the surface, stabbing at the fresh wounds,
Letting the blood flow, maybe slash and burn
There should be something behind this disgrace
This face, no perfection, no longer a sight
The curves of my mouth always turned down
And my eyes can't see past the tears...

This is all just me,
Its about me, how I see myself
In the mirror, in someone else's eyes
How I close mine, not even dare to look
*At the demon that stares back.
Recently came across a documentary about BDD, Body Dismorphic Disorder, a psychological condition characterized by the person excessively obsessing about how they look, sometimes to the extremes of self mutilating themselves.  Often mistook as vanity, these people have a very hard time accepting what they look like.
This is written from an angle a person with the disorder, would write. Of course, the point of why I'm writing this, is to tell you, that YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL. Really. INSIDE, OUT.

Dusty roads lead beyond the mountain pass
Waterfalls with gurgling rush of foam
Tristan, won't you follow me?
The truth awaits us back in the woods
The gory reminder of our eventful lives.

The morning sun rising above the earth
Rays of light hit the still calm water
The heart of life, the essence forgotten.
Collect your tears in a golden ***,
Save it for a day when grief's afoot.

The breaking dawn brings the unforgivable truth
When will the birds start their song?
Far beneath the layers of the earth
Tucked into some corner, oblivious
Our names embedded in red.

What destruction we have wrought!
The unquenchable quest for wisdom
Blinded by worldly desires.
Our unholy crimes to Mother Earth
Will Her scars give us remission for our misdeeds?

Learning to love yourself
Meenu Syriac Jul 2017
Days on end I have seen you hurt,
Waging battles alone, against the world.
Poised, gentle, barely holding it in.
Fiery, brave, but scared and tainted.

I come closer, you fly further.
My fingers reach out, you slip away,
Forever running,
Forever hiding.
I realise you don't need me
But it breaks my heart not to stay.

Some days I dream of tearing down your walls,
Maybe break open a window into your soul.
"Let me in", I say, "Let me hold you even if the pain resents."
"How can I let you love me", she says, "when I'm only learning how to love myself?"

All there was to our story
Died with our silence.

Let our bodies rekindle with our souls.

Why do we fight for what was lost

Waters receding, tears fall like ink,
Damaged within, like a withering flower,
She wrote pages upon pages,
Day and night, night and day.
And as the fire calmed down to embers,
And as the embers forgot the warmth.
Her eyes wet from tears,
Like rain, they fell to the ground.
A quiet girl once sang by the shore,
Her voice sang lovely, the heavens adored.
And when the night crept in as silent as the wind,
Watching the lights in the distance,
She sat wondering why she was alone.
Within those pages,
This poem she wrote, her dreams, she etched between lines,
And her thoughts she painted without err.
Her words gave life,
Her words added color.
Her soul saw love,
Through another pair of eyes.
Her melancholia was the source,
To every picture painted,
To every succinct detail,
About the life around.
This poem she wrote, among the many,
In those pages she filled without fail.
This was her song to sing,
Her story to tell.
This poem she wrote,
About herself,
As she sat by the dying fire,
Looking out at the moonlight,
Dancing with the waves,
Kissing the shore.

Collide
Meenu Syriac Jun 2015
In this fleeting existence, we call life
Breaths of air, unlabored, unsought,
We are but specks in an infinite universe
Colliding with another, now and again.
And as time effaces all strides of victory
We hold a part of each other,
Treasured and locked.
Sing anthems to our plight
To how our love, untainted,
Turned into a story.
As we held our hands and looked to the stars
Leaving our woes to burn with the fire,
We were silent that night,
That beautiful night,
Yet we never stopped speaking.
And to the faint glow of ember,
The smell of the ocean,
We sat there gazing at the endless sky.
To what we owe this joy we have,
Finding each other, holding our fragile hearts.
For you heard my song,
And I, yours.
Now living seems less arduous,
Existence is bliss.
Because we found each other
In this infinite universe.

Unsung Heroes
Meenu Syriac Feb 2017
Heavy hearts, we're lost in the fog,
Paving roads to places unknown.
Growing sorrows, skyward bound,
Forever fleeing, like a vagabond.
If our arms could feel the weight of our souls,
And our names could reveal the battles fought,
Here, we are survivors
Unsung heroes.
Sunken ships have greater stories,
Some even worth the gold.
With time, comes healing.
With love, comes cure.

Melancholy
Meenu Syriac Jun 2014
Lights forgive a certain gloom deep inside
Standing under the sun, I hear the command undone.
But when I look up to it, I feel the hurt within
Too much of something has always been bad.

Rusted tears fall from my eyes,
Pleading to let go of the diabolic deeds of days bygone.
The more I try to bury it within,
The lesser the effort it takes to remember them again.

Dreamers sit by the banks of a river,
Looking out at the valleys, as the grey clouds settle in.
My mind awash with a million thoughts of betrayal
The destruction of a broken soul slowly starts to kick in.

Cloak of Invisibility
Meenu Syriac Jan 2015
She painted her walls the color of the world,
To her everything was black and white.
And in that colourless world she sat alone,
In the midst of a chaos of everything she knew.
A misconstrued tragedy of the life she lived,
In deep waters she tend to lose herself.
In her sleep she made her nightly escapades,
To a world ghastly different to what she lead.
Silence was the best part,
A sense of serenity felt only in its wake.
Shadows as dark as the night
Loomed behind, leaving despondent trails.
Her name, she left to fly with the wind and herself,
A non existential reality, a burnt page off a book.
Chasing the day, donning a cloak of invisibility,
She was what she wanted, without judgment or prying eyes.

Tantalizing Effects
Meenu Syriac Jul 2014
The kiss, reminisce to a hot summer afternoon,
The scent of him, hangs like a cloud above my head .
And every breath burns, like a flame set on fire, inside me.
His touch, dissolves, now a part of my very being,
His taste still lingers as this sweet dream of a passionate love affair.
And as the night draws closer, my soul aches for the sound of him,
And with every beat of my heart, his coincides to be of one.
Sweet nothing, as true as the sun that rises in the east.
And into his arms I fall, onto a bed of roses,
Underneath the sheets, skin and skin meet, burning desires,
As the dreamer in me awakes.

A faint glow of light
Casting long shadows in the corridor
Dust gathering,
In this house riddled with secrets
Lurching behind the curtains.
Time, stands still,
As these walls seem to breathe
With their eyes watching me.
In this endless solitude,
I've found my solace
In this madness,
I have begun to revel.
Intoxication finds me hospitable
Blankly staring at the photographs
Hung up high on the wall.
And I whisper into the growing darkness
An unsolvable equation to my insanity.
I have lost myself within these hallowed halls,
Built a temple around my being
With my inebriated dreams.
I fall deeper and deeper
Further away from all that is real.
Oh how comforting,
This swirling blackness,
Ushering me in to the unknown.

Paranoia
Meenu Syriac May 2014
I am haunted by my fears even in the morning sun
And irrevocably consumed by some daunting shadow.
At night they come in forms of terror
And in my disdain I cry and shiver.
Lost in an illusion my mind sowed
And in that realm I die a thousand times.
Tethered to life by a thin rope
An infinite foot fall to the unknown.
Those lines are waiting to break
The fog rising and the lights dimming,
Darkness engulfs and seeps into my blood.
Now in its arms I find solace
This paranoia feels like home.
This darkness sparking a storm,
And with the storm comes chaos
And in that chaos, *my mind revels.

Just passing by
Meenu Syriac Apr 2014
Whispering echoes of a forgotten time
Passing crisis in a lamenting strife
The tides rock your boat to and fro
Until the waters recede to a passive surrender
No light where truth holds no place
Maybe when you get back from where you come
This world will have seen better days.
Maybe then all your misery will be justified
But tonight, don't cry darling.
The dawn is but hours away
The light will shine through .

Now, lie still and lets plunder the halls of our dreams
The tales we wove together one night in blissful wonder.
Let's dance to the silence and sing with no music
Let our bodies move to the ebb of our love, so deep.

And when I have drowned in the depths of your eyes
And played on your heartstrings,
When this dancing and kissing in the moonlight comes to an end,
I'll take my leave.
Maybe when everything's alright
You won't miss me so much.
Maybe when the light makes its way into your life,
You won't think about me anymore.
That was all I was, wasn't I?
Needed, but not wanted,
Just someone who passes by.

Putting out fires
Meenu Syriac May 2014
Blackened
Soul deep.
Purged in darkness
Set on fire.
These walls
Do no justice.
Pain, a friend
Partner in crime.
Coughing up blood,
Picking up pieces.
Tragic reminiscing
No, not cathartic.
No answers,
Just questions.
Pact with the devil,
Too far in for remission.
Pushing limits
Past breaking points.
The world too malicious
Always disappoints.
No room for guilt,
Just a fatal ambition.
No room for doubt,
Its my transcending choice.

Pledged loyalty to my vice,
And my malevolence.
But in my self destruction,
And reckless violence,
You found me.
Unlike all the others,
You never left.
Unlike all others,
You stayed

Completely fictional. No, I'm not a bad person. Wanted to experiment with how much negativity I can put in one piece and still shine a ray of hope.

Questioning conscience
Meenu Syriac Apr 2014
Its a little outlandish,
Dont you think,
To believe what you hear
And confess that is the truth?
Isn't it naive to think,
Think that the world is too nice,
That everyone's just as convincing
As your own nonchalant notion of life?
Isn't it foolish,
To fall in love
With the same broken heart
And still preach that it'll be alright?
Dont you think
Your life is much more than a period,
But it is one where you can be yourself
For the world to see
To behold
And to be?
If only you could open your eyes
To the things you thought were true.
If only you could let your mind wander
And set it free in the corn fields.
If only your ideas were a product of will power
And probably then see it fly in the wind.
Why do you hold yourself back
When you only have just this lifetime,
This short span of life to cherish?
Why do you worry about the petty things in life
When clearly you're so close to falling off the edge?
Why do you hide your dreams
So that you can be a part of some society
Aching to strip you of your individuality?
Why do you refuse to be you,
When this is the best **** person you'll ever be?

Words Fail
Meenu Syriac Jul 2014
Words fail with skip of a beat
Soft falling snow
Singing of our faceless defeat.
Walking through rough waters,
I see your arms stretch out.
Rain pours right through us
Drenched in shadows
We pray for gods to hear.
Lost to whispers
That reign our sleep.
I see your arms stretch out
And ache for me.
Words fail like an unsung song
In the night I hear
Your story, sad and forlorn.
Like the setting sun
See its sink as low as our own.
Words fail knowing,
You were once all I had.
Through the darkness
I hear your voice call out,
Here today, gone tomorrow.
Words fail
I lay here in bed
Your name is all I have
Outside, the rain pours
And your name is all I have.

Weakness
Meenu Syriac Mar 2014
Towering incapabilities
Mistaken flaws.
Mere reflections of my soul
That thrive to tear me apart.
The fear to fall under the weight
Of endless desires and accusations.
My weakness, my indulgence
The truth holds me down.
My inability to hide
My face it, swirls with emotions.
Dangerous dreams,
They lurk in me.
When will I understand
The world has let me down?
Drunken schemes
Pitiless words.
Reckless thoughts
Dark desires.
The day will come
When I drive myself off the cliff.
The day will come
When only sleep gives me solace.

Blow out the Candles
Meenu Syriac Jun 2014
In the silence of the night,
You and I alone by the fire.
This rift between us, clear as day,
But cold as our hearts.

In tears, we learned love,
In pain, we fought the odds.
But tonight in this silence
We let ourselves undone.

Blow out these candles,
Let me see you in the dark.
All along, we held ourselves back,
Now let our hearts decide.

Blow out the candles,
Let me look into your eyes.
In this darkness, I'll find,
What we lost along the path.

Blow out the candles,
Its just you and me, tonight.
In this silence we'll lie still
And let our souls entwine.

To Matter
Meenu Syriac Sep 2014
In moments like these,
*His breathless whisper,

Silent and comforting.
Soft eyes, believing,
Words like music,
That flow in a soothing ebb,
Ever so ecstatic in form.

If only I could know.

And in that tide of pure happiness,
That fraction of a second,
Wherein only the purest joy exists.
When our eyes meet,
To be known, to matter.
For that brief moment of time,
When the veil drops,
And he peers into my soul.
The warmth in his eyes,
Nulling out everything
That makes life miserable.
To know that at that moment,
My existence matters,
And I'm not someone,

Happy Birthday
Meenu Syriac Sep 2014
Its been a year,
Held up in a tiny space,
My head's too small
For everything I've been thru
Just yearning to let it go.
Somewhere along the way,
I wrote this song for you.
It's been a year,
Feels like forever.
Wonder what it feels like
To live life as you do.
Do you ever think
How it feels like, on this side?
Do you ever wonder,
How the pain never lets go?
Its been a year,
Counting down
To the smallest fraction of time
And here I am
Still wondering what went wrong.
Happy birthday
You were a dear friend
Yes, I wrote this for you.
You're the closest I have come
To knowing friendship
In its true form.
Guess, I can never be anymore wrong
Than I already am
About you.
Anyways, happy birthday
And God bless you.
One sided friendships are always painful.
