I trade my soul for your story
Broken colors strung together
Once for love and then for glory
A chorus made of unmade letters
Written from love's lasting shadow
Against our will our hearts are stolen
Swept away by fated arrows
In photographs we still remember
Which we recite in lonely whispers
Reminding us untouched sinners
A second glance when we miss her

Hey Girl, It Gets Better
PoorLionNotKing Feb 2017
One second you’re lost in his eyes

tearfully moving on to the next guy.

Do you think that this is romance

changing your heart like a swing dance?

Trust me dear, life can be so much brighter.

Hey girl, it gets better.

You’re deeply in love with the idea of love

searching for hope like you’re one Noah’s doves

holding on to your heart that’s barely lit,

and if you aren’t careful you’ll only lose it.

Happy endings don’t last forever.

Hey girl, life is better.

Your heart breaks from losing love and friends

it seems like a game that you just can’t win.

Wondering why you’re always second best,

you don’t realize you’re taking the wrong test.

Your soul will dance in the arms of another.

Hey girl, that song is better.

A broken heart changes a dreamer’s delusion

clears up perceived love’s fated confusion.

Love comes for those who are busy living,

well maybe not, but at least you’ll be breathing.

Hope is found when you refuse to say never.

Hey girl, even scars get better.

The Bar That's Not a Bar
PoorLionNotKing Mar 2016
The weekend is nearly here                                                                            My friends are finished playing
So they catch me on their way
To the bar that’s not a bar.

The waitresses can always tell
When brothers look the same
She gives us quite the laugh
In the bar that’s not a bar.

Others came, but a little late
Two tables is all it takes
Until they need to leave again
From the bar that’s not a bar.

Among the guys she’s alone,
Or were there three, who can see
It’s just another conspiracy
At the bar that’s not a bar.

All the teacher run away
With the fighting players,
And the servers drinking
Inside the bar that’s not a bar.

Flash of light and its around
A girl’s fame shared by all
He’s fine but she is shamed
Far from the bar that’s not a bar.

He’s looking straight ahead,
The mirror staring back at him
Love is working mysteriously
For the bar that’s not a bar.

It’s getting late almost two
Talking as they fall asleep
They see each other differently
Back at the bar that’s not a bar.

When we leave they say to stay
Need to check your identity
Guess they forgot all about me
Leaving the bar that’s not a bar.

Sitting down I finish writing
That I think I see the silver lining
Of having friends who see each other
At the bar that’s not the bar.

Good Dreams in Math Class
PoorLionNotKing Mar 2016
I’m an old man dancing in the lake

with flowers dying before they bloom

better to break them than to lose them,

cause madness always seems friendly,

until you see what’s inside me.

The moment’s gone before you look

seeing nothing, but a need to grow,

but lovers always start in the soul.

Long ago I related to my elders,

the older I get the more I’m a child,

Puck can’t come  play in the winter.

I’m not black, white, good or evil,

cause every demon was once an angel.

You try too live so that you can love,

I’m going to love so that I can live.

When the sun is made of kryptonite,

a heart that sings strums its scars,

like a child witness their first dawn,

I’m no longer drowning in the lake.

Weird Little Me
PoorLionNotKing Feb 2016
I'm feeling oh so lonely

and just need to be alone.

Got a drive to conquer,

but I'll sleep instead.

I'm too afraid to dance

when I just need to move.

Don't ask me to speak,

cause I have too much to say.

I'll wear a frozen mask

right beside my heart of fire.

Yeah, it keeps me warm,

and it burns me alive.

I'll joke with hard logic,

I just don't follow its rules.

I'm always dreaming,

even when I can't fall asleep.

No reason to leave,

but I don't have the itch to stay.

Always hard to just say no

unless you're someone I know.

I see that sometimes I'm wrong,

and sometimes it's not worth being right.

I'm a second-rate romantic

believing in a first-rate love.

I'm quiet and shy

going crazy inside.

Please don't look at me,

but I need you to see me.

Can't say I understand

the paradox inside me.

Eve
PoorLionNotKing Feb 2016
Eve
I heard my mother yesterday
like an echo with something to say
with a heart patched up with love,
and trials for all she hasn’t lost.

I fall apart with my friend
like a rock carried by the wind
with the gifts she always gives,
and the lies she takes away.

I say goodbye to my lover
like the whisper of a broken heart
with every scar she delivered,
and her heartfelt silence.

I forget myself with my sisters
like a secret in a song unsung
with a faith of perfect vision,
and all they share with their brothers.

I hold the hand of my bride
like a dollar you’re afraid to be apart from
with every trap that’s before us,
and the time we lose track of.

I look into my daughter’s eyes
like the eye in the hurricane
with her mother lying right beside me,
and my girl hears an echo in the wind.

I’m told that Eve's the cause of every sin
like one tree unjustly burned among the others
without the chance given to the man,
and were it true, Eve would be worth it.

Winter's Shadow
PoorLionNotKing Dec 2015
I swim through the roses
Blooming among the dying
Leaving the stars behind me
Taking a harsher path.

Life is nothing but a lover
Doesn’t last after all
The only love that matters
Is the one we leave behind.

Suppose for just one second
Or perhaps a minute more will do
That hope is only beauty
When it burns a mark in you.

Time to continue on
For another night
But how do flowers grow
In the winter’s shadows?

Fall In December
PoorLionNotKing Dec 2015
When left alone
we’re afraid
but I guess that’s just
how we were made.

Do you remember
where you were
when everything begins to burn.
at the fall of our December?

I’m like a Christmas breeze
running to the American dream
all the people sleeping
What are you seeing?

No one left to learn the lies
that follows up a moment’s death
causes you lose after all your tries.
underwater without a chance.

Ain't: A Sonnet
PoorLionNotKing Dec 2015
Ain't ain't a word
if you haven't heard.
So that you know
after a while it begins to show.
Giving up all we should keep
based off how a fellow speaks.
Now we never hear
lost in a wordless fear.
Looking down like it's a game
while praising the Bard for doing the same.
Afraid to create something new
to take a false word and make it true.

A Christmas Conversation
PoorLionNotKing Dec 2015
I was sitting down alone
as the winter gleamed
a couple came to ask me
can we sit beside you?
Nothing between us was said
and so sit down they did.

Are you ready for some Christmas cheer?
I hear them sing to me
And normally I would
but this year was going differently.
I have no time for Christmas cheer
there’s far too much to fear.

What about your wish
for I’m sure it’s very real.
A gift annually delivered
to all whom you choose.
From each other we received
five golden rings.

I’m afraid my hands are bare
I have no gifts to give.
and I can’t believe in dreams
when there’s now stars to see.

Don’t you believe in miracles
in this time of year?
A chance to hope as it ends
for tomorrow to begin.

With a sigh I replied
that I didn’t yesterday
though now that I see
the sparks between you
now I too believe.

They were satisfied
and finally let me be
I was silent for a moment
then I began to cry
I began to cry at Christmas time.

A Dove Without Wings
PoorLionNotKing Dec 2015
You’re like a King without a Queen
Sleeping without a dream
Thinking your brave, but all you do is scream.
See if I care
Now isn’t that fair.

So pick your poison
And take a sip
It’ll be over, in a bit.
See if I care
Now isn’t that fair.

Searching for love without a lover
Dancing without a melody
Giving up before it beings.
See if I care
Now isn’t that fair.

Burning in water
Like a dove without wings
In a sky without stars.
See if I care
Now isn’t that fair.

Singing without a song
All you do is run in circles
Living without breathing.
See if I care
Now isn’t that fair.

See if I care
If once upon a time
All you do is leave
With the tears of the sun.
See if I care
Now isn’t that fair.

The Devil
PoorLionNotKing Dec 2015
I met the devil the other day
you wouldn't believe
what he had to say.

Said I'm tired of always leaving
without a chance to believe
deceived by all my lying.

My fate is tied to my sin
death caused by a tree
to meet a fiery end.

PoorLionNotKing Dec 2015
Hey there Cinderella
watch your every step
for every path you take
is only made of glass.

Wake up Briar Rose
the fairies dance
and the dragons burn
while you slumber on.

Be careful Snow White
don't trust those who
bitterly believe
in only what they see.

Let it go Rapunzel
there's a world out there
once upon a discovery
a time to remember.

Don't hide Mulan
sleep is not worth the stay
better to fight to die
than left behind to cry.

Goodbye Arial
don't lose your song
while leaving your home
with your heart by your side.

Daily Bread
PoorLionNotKing Nov 2015
They're looking for their daily bread
searching like they're the walking dead
just fighting for a chance to get ahead.

You want change, but you're afraid to part
with all the junk that seems like art
guess that comes when you trust your heart.

We never walk the streets at night
scared to death to do what's right
while proclaiming to proclaim a star so bright.

Trying to live life without a prize
maybe one day I won't be paralyzed
not to be famous, but perhaps to be wise.

into who they sell?

wondering at the start
won't you let me stay

Knock Knock

can you tell me
that our future heart
will be okay.

Devil's Lullaby
PoorLionNotKing Nov 2015
Hello Angel what should I do
with this old faded soul?
My blood breaks apart in my reflection
and my dream cracks across the floor.
Your wings slither past the sky
down toward heaven’s broken heart.

Hello Demon who should I lose
from my collection of old faces?
My past scars my heart
a damaged clock in my every thought.
It can be hard to understand
that burning is always worst alone.

Hello Man where should I go
past the stars of my drifting mind?
Love’s hope left to bloom
dancing across every second chance.
I’m left wondering about tomorrow
and the lies you will bring.

Hello Woman who should I be
among the shadow’s heart?
Can we seek a knight’s love
as our blade’s tremble in the flame.
With the dragon that guards the night
and cracks among your soul.

Hello God what should I fight,
what victory is worth the pain?
How much can we pay
for the life we disregard?
When you're lost to the ghost
who died so you could live.

Hello Brain what do we fear,
but death’s morning rise?
The sleeper’s curse too often denied
when we call upon our graves.
The stars always stir inside
when you hear the devil’s lullaby.

Circles
PoorLionNotKing Nov 2015
I run around in circles
with this empty bottle of poison
another another give me another
won't you tell me dear brother
what I have become?
I hear the calling of the song
sung by the sirens all day long
too dead to remember
a time yet to past.
So I begin to disappear
in a hollow grave of my fear
it all began on yesterday
and since that fateful day
all I can bare to say
is I run around in circles.

PoorLionNotKing Nov 2015
I wear a dress of crimson silk
past the meadow from which I see
a man and woman laughing happily
reaching out with my hands of thorns
for a time to love and a time to burn
ignorant of the lessons they are to learn
nothing left to lose, but hope
as he picks me up in a wish
for the girl and the chance of a kiss

The Lion and the Lamb
PoorLionNotKing Nov 2015
I saw a lion yesterday
and in his jaw was a man
who lost himself in all he said
If you're going to eat me sir
please clean the jewels in your mouth
remove the bugs caught in your fur.
I would hate to die of disease
so before you enjoy your feast
cough up the lies of a thousand fleas.
Lose your crown to my disgust
for the inhuman laws you decree
to enslave those who gave their trust.
Then the man spoke no more
nothing left, but a poor of red
like a lamb led through the gates of war.

Where Did My People Go?
PoorLionNotKing Nov 2015
Left my kingdom of a time long past
within the grave of my icy throne.
Where did my people go?
Even in death I never expected to be so alone
never thought I'd wish this eternal sleep to last.
Now I'm surrounded by metal beasts
losing my soul in a royal disgrace.
Where did my people go?
Drinking despair as I taste
the bitter lies of this feast.
No one remembers my wife or child
long forgotten before yesterday begins.
Where did my people go?
If wandering is the curse of my sin
has romantic ideals become so wild?
Today I bow my head to pray
for the dead's wasted light.
Where did my people go?
Closed my eyes, and now it's night
sleeping without someone once worth the stay.

To The Moon Together
PoorLionNotKing Nov 2015
Shall we walk together
past the days long forgotten.
Trust me when I say
life is better if you live brightly.
The light is shining deeply
and in case you don’t believe
look upon the stars
for the wish we all receive.
From the time we began our journey
till our paper hearts all crumbled
we would be alone together.
So if never see you
if I’m running late
look up to the sky
and there we will be together.

Goodbye Nameless Wonder
PoorLionNotKing Oct 2015
If I died that day
would you be a woman?
Left alone from the storm
away from heaven.
Won't you live the life
I was given instead of you?
Fate gambled us away
and I suppose I won
but I wonder my friend
who really lived past yesterday
cause while you dance among the stars
I cry at one level above hell.

not that you say what I already know.

that some love isn't meant to be.

Invisible until I decide to stay
hiding from the choir of the spotlight.

upon the mask for the alone.
So Happy Birthday to the dead

man can live without bread
with the help of the magician's kiss.

A gift to me from you
burning memories I soon will miss
I swear to you but prove it true.

The Lady of My Love
PoorLionNotKing Oct 2015
How can I describe my love
it is beyond my words to say.
She was first to charm
second to love
and the more I knew her
the lovelier she soon became.
She’s the apple of my eye
and with it I shall see
the fruit of our love
was never meant to be.
So I’m twice broken
from lies never spoken.
Now she is gone
but never will I fret
look there’s another
Was our love meant to be?

Ode to a Bear
PoorLionNotKing Sep 2015
I hardly slept at all last night
and as a little boy might say
it’s not fault mom and dad
I’m not the one to blame
I was kept up on night by a bear
who should bare all the shame
In his furry arms I should lay
forgetting all my woes
In the midst of blue I should dream
before I become so too
but my bear my friend forgot his job
to guard what’s true
and protect what’s mine
But before I went to bed
I forgot to pat his head
and now he’s rather cross you see
If I were to go to sleep
I’m afraid my bear would say
let me keep you company
with the demons you hide away
In his curse you will see
what I would rather not believe
that I lost a friend to my memory
and replaced him with my loving misery.

Masked University
PoorLionNotKing Sep 2015
As you go to school,
remember every rule.
Freshman mask are black
and sophomores bright pink.
All the juniors covered in blue
not yet seniors in crimson red.
So never remove your mask
unless you wish to  see
the actors underneath.
All the teachers wearing white
as they say to thee,
We will never **** you
unless you bother me.
Say what you will
about the kings who rule.
It’s easy to trust
those masked in gold.
Who can really say
where the flames began?
It’s destroying all the students
but at least we’re not dead.
The king and queen so wise
from all the gold they wear.
A plan to save the school
from that holy hell.
The plan was very simple
and far too complex.
When they saw the fire
they simple close their eyes
and tapped their shoes together.
Pretending the flames were gone
and soon exist they didn’t.
Hooray the king and queen
for all the vanquished flames.
Thank you for your justice
before the flames were near.
