"unalienable" poems
The greatest demonstration of freedom in the history of the nation.
Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation.
A great beacon light of hope.
Seared in the flames of withering justice.
One hundred years later, the ***** still is not free.
We’ve come to our nation’s capital to cash a check.
This note was the promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white, men, would be guaranteed the unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
It is obvious today that America has defaulted on this promissory note insofar as her citizens of color are concerned.
Now is the time to make real promises of democracy.
Now is the time to make injustice a reality for all of God’s children.
There will be neither rest nor tranquility in America until the ***** is granted his citizen rights.
In the process of gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds.
I am not unmindful that some of you have come here out of great trials and tribulations.
You have been veterans of creative suffering.
Go back, knowing that somehow this situation can and will be changed.
I say to you today, even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream.
A deeply rooted american dream.
A dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.”
I have a dream where little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the context of their character.
I have a dream today!
That little black boys and girls, will be able to join hands with little white boys and girls as brothers and sisters.
I have a dream today!
The rough places will be plain and the crooked places will be made straight, “and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together."
This is our hope.
This is the faith I go back with.
With this faith we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood.
When we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God’s children --- black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics --- will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old ***** spiritual, “Free at last. Free at last. Thank God Almighty, we are free at last.”

I don’t really like to play the victim,
But I'm being failed by this system
7 hours, a hostage to cinder block rooms
With nothing to do but let myself be groomed
Into someone's labor source
If I don’t have money, I cannot live
But nobody seems to have a thought to give
To my Life being turned into a commodity
Something to be owned, taxed, a luxury
That sometimes I’m not able to afford.
So much stock is put into democracy
But we don’t matter to bureaucracy
Unless we use the paychecks earned
From the Liberties we burned
To fill their empty promises
They call us ungrateful and lazy
For recognizing that this life is crazy
And resenting all the thought and time
Spent in the Pursuit of a rich man’s dime
Instead of our own Happiness

the world is full
of the definite
the tv sits across the room
if I go to it, hit the power
button, it will turn off
if I stay seated, bother with
the remote, it can change
channels or turn off as
well
or if I do nothing,
nothing will
happen
this is how the universe is
no tricks
no secrets
no conspiracies
even humans aren’t
that complex
they do the same things
over and over and over
and over and over and
over and over again
like stock characters out
of the text book, everyone-
everyone- does things in
a predictable and easily-
understood way
the **** will always **** the ********
guy, the lawyer will **** the innocent,
and our role-models will always let us
down
it’s not new and it never
has been
so I have no sympathy
for those of you who
are surprised
and neither for those
of you determined to
change what the world
is
I’ve already told you:
this is a definite world,
of concrete, unalienable
facts
there is no place for liars
or those convinced there’s
something else going on
than what they can see
there is little place for the deceived
and the blinded
(especially when their eyes
are gouged out by their own
knife)

You are my home.
I find sanctuary in the palette that you paint our world with.
You are my sky, in that, you change your colours and your motions and your clothes but you are always there.
Even when I think you are not.
We are unalienable.
You are a fortress, a castle, in which I am a prince and you are my princess.
You give me rest when I need it and you give me love when I need to heal.
You give me a roof over my head even when we are both miles away from home.
You are comfortable.
You are home.
My home sweet home.

Yet a mother still cries

So the NRA flouts
In the aftermath of chaos
They’re casting doubts
In between the tears and crying bouts
Nine hundred and ninety-four
School shootings since then
So we must ask ourselves
Will it ever end
Or what will it take
To make it suspend
Having more guns
Isn’t the answer my friend
The pursuit of life and liberty
Is an unalienable right
While that well may be
It’s probably a right
That we won’t get to see
As long as we allow
Bullets to fly free
We lose our lives and our liberty

I am just an onlooker
what makes them think I'm involved in their drama
They casted and gathered their actors
started their theatricals
So commence the Love Scene...Act One
You...join the Club, play the leading lady
If it was love, why didn't I jumped there when she moved
Why did I call my sister when she visited
Why did I go there with my sister the one time I visited
Why the long interval before the last contact
Why refuse to see the symbolic gift.
I know you like pink
or miss the essence of the pointed finger
placed near your groin.
I am not that slow, was I to hold your finger with my palm resting
on that warm soft place
I did not, I reached over for it avoiding any touch there.
I don't do sneaky touches or sneaky anything for that matter
what about those words spoken during the performance in the store
" my job is done, I can leave now "
I only ever wanted to reciprocate a debt of thanks I owed to a father
thought maybe I could in some way to a daughter
I tried in my own way to value people, be there if needed
I stopped
Nothing to do with respect, nothing to do with desires
Nothing to do with faked angry rudeness
or theatrical screams - a childish act for little minds
The hurt was from seeing an 'educated' contemporary sister
coming from oppression, an emancipated modern educated women
who I thought would easily see the dynamics of political oppression and the insidious ways we are manipulated
only to realize, even she couldn't see
and is unable to break free from mental **********
or even understand the mechanics of 'mental oppression'.
OR the unalienable truth that
'If one person is oppressed, we are all oppressed'
a concept too complex for the simple mind
Education is not intelligence, that hurts. c'est la vie
write your dirges, live your delusions, fantasize your love story
formulate your scenarios and talk of unrequited love
heartbreak, pain, loss, pink, rainbow
or whatever silly minds un-think up.
I am only an on looker, just a plain disinterested onlooker.
I am not part of you!!!

holy cow, words my god they can be arranged in ways that are musical and metaphorical and melodic yet menacing or mechanical, mean and maniacal.
WORDS GAH! Letters can be like musical notes and different arrangements are different chords, CHORDS CAN BE WORDS! chord progressions=sentences! There's common ones. Like C G Am F. Translated. You are so beautiful. wow so inspired. HOWEVER! one can use the same chords in different fashions to create different songs with totally different meanings LADLKJNF!

Does our constitution not preach of the unalienable, God-given rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? Does our Statue of Liberty, one of the most historic figures of our freedom, not cry out for the “tired, poor, huddled masses, yearning for freedom?” Does our freedom bell not ring? Has the golden door closed? Has Lady Liberty turned her light off? Have our soldiers laid down their guns? Who are we as a country to deny our foundation and shut our doors? If all men are created equal, why are we watching with judging eyes?

I stand here the sole survivor,
Of the world consumed by fear.
A witness to unspeakable horror,
My testimony stained with my tears.
Hindsight I've heard comes too easy,
But this story just had to be told.
I point not a finger at my brethren,
But shine light on a world that grew cold.
Out of the apex of despicable tragedy,
Surfaced a solution so undeniably clear,
Better that we give our freedom away,
Then let the enemy control us with fear.
Too quickly this nation relinquished,
Their founding fathers unalienable rights,
And a country engulfed in its anger,
Followed leaders with little foresight.
Manipulated by media frenzy,
We declared war not on man but a word!
By the time we’d begun to realize what we’d done
We’d lost the right to be heard.
Once protections were gone, it didn’t take long,
For morality to quickly succumb.
Torture laws were revised, we all turned our eyes
From the monster we had become
Once in place there was no way to stop it,
A chain reaction we couldn’t shutoff.
At the start we didn’t want to be cowards,
So we just cut all the safety nets off.
Patriotism the drug that had numbed us,
In short time the eagle eclipsed the dove.
As our nation did fight, to set some score right?
We all died in a world without love.
Sometimes I find I don’t miss them,
This planet deserved so much better than we!
It will slowly repair, life will spring up somewhere,
If so I pray that they see
That my tale is much more then sadness,
Within it there’s a lesson to be taught
The only truth that can now be held self-evident,
Is that we put the gun to our own head and shot!

You are more than you see
A child stares at the movie screen
Strutting with the confidence of a cowboy
Imagining the characters that pops off the watercolor pages
As they jump up and down in their onesie
Holding tight to their plushy sidekick
That seems to whisper an end to moon landings

I am at war with the boundaries that divide us
I urge with every muscle to strike them down
though the muscles themselves build the divisions
(my mind can never be in yours because
my body is separate and I will never be inside of you
as far as I desire to go)
there will always be tense heirarchies and lines-that-are-forbidden-to-cross and things
that you musn't say to a teacher, say, or a priest
and these invented boxes line our hearts and claim
that we are not created equal, all men and women are
endowed with certain unalienable rights
like the right to honesty, liberty, and the pursuit of expression
that though I speak to you I may be fully me
but this can never be- you will always be you
so we must divide, now and stand on opposite sides
of the wall, look at each other through a glass
and though it seems we touch, we never can,
putting our hands up to a window, kissing through it
and my lips shall never meet yours-
and for that, I am at war with the glass;
I long for the warmth and the gentleness of your lips
but cannot, it is cold in between us, it is hell
to divide us and a damning cruelty
unites us beyond time, eternity, my heart beats divine
and you cannot feel it, and for that,

The Preamble of the Declaration of Independence
All men are created equal-
that means all people.
Let’s insert naturally
to rhyme with admirably.
Rights that are unalienable ,
they cannot be taken away !
Unalienable ,
and honorable.
And by the way,
These rights are
Life,
Not a dream life !
Liberty,
Not captivity!
And the Pursuit of Happiness
Our common success!
