"slant" poems
Praise to the emptiness that blanks out existence. Existence: This place made from our love for that emptiness! Yet somehow comes emptiness, this existence goes. Praise to that happening, over and over! For years I pulled my own existence out of emptiness. Then one swoop, one swing of the arm, that work is over. Free of who I was, free of presence, free of dangerous fear, hope, free of mountainous wanting. The here-and-now mountain is a tiny piece of a piece of straw blown off into emptiness. These words I'm saying so much begin to lose meaning: Existence, emptiness, mountain, straw: Words and what they try to say swept out the window, down the slant of the roof.

Porous asphalt, And bandaged, quilt Homes puncture the Neighborhood, Which reads like a tattered American flag; all Coke Ads and weight loss Billboards, Half-burnt houses slant, Like the hills of San Francisco— Our own makeshift cable Carts, limping up And down the inclines. We are slowly being burned By our once golden sun— Having been taught to Bleach ourselves Pale, tucked shamefully In the shade. Makeshift shanty towns Which smell of mildew And processed laundry soap, Flimsy tin roofs Tied with Kleenex and Pizza Hut tarpaulins. The fact that this neighborhood Was christened "Freedom" Strikes an empty pang.

Kalayaan Avenue
Amid the verbose magicians Seeking kinships And sailing deep into their arduous mists Watching them peddle their afternoon To a handful of smiling children holding their breath Amazed in gentle body trick The older men of age Leaning deep into their creased chins Stroking the grizzled fat Blinding light of soul Staring down the barrel of life Striking the enemy one last time And yet smiling sober, Met of match, taking care of their kids. Then there's the cold-clocked dudes On the phone pushing buttons In a button-up raglan Lost indistinct the promised land The golden shores swept away by inconvenient time Left shopping in an auto mall "Won't you look at the time?" 7.07 APR Boy what a steal! And Steve maddened and screamed As the lines blurred instinctual between opposing teams And the oven dinged a great alabaster slant Leaning towards the new millenitants Rise up! ***** the wheel Turn the axel from pistons To alkaline metal And doubt with great monumental Quality That the machine borders all And we cannot retreat And while I sift bouyantly between the waves Searching the puzzle piece within the molecules Reconnecting with the things And representing dreams on a 66 hertz screen I call rather failing Towards a black rocked shore Towards the sweet Dorigen Of my dreams Finding an integral of time And space And calculating the intangible slope Of my desmise With the imaginary constiutent Of that lighted mind.

Where are my shores
The already preset disposition of being Asian. I must've been accidentally mixed in the wrong laundry basket, because they tell me I'm white-washed. Born with foreign looks but a native tongue my birth certificate calls me ***** I would be the blonde-hair-blue-eyes of a country on the other side of the world but here, I'm still considered an immigrant in my own home. When you are Asian-American, you are also the stereotypes that trail your title. You are sushi You are jackie-chan You are karate You are good grades You are the slant-eyed pignose supporting character WELCOME TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA LAND OF THE FREE, HOME OF THE BRAVE WHERE UNITED IS TRANSLATED AS DISCRIMINATED! BUT DON'T GET IT TWISTED, ASIANS ARE PRETTY COOL! Excuse me straight misogynist white male, your Godzilla type of Asian, or my culture? When have I as an individual played a character in these quote on quote American movies? Hmm oh yeah, that's right! I was in Fast and Furious! Didn't I also make an appearance in Harry Potter as the cute innocent Cho Chang? If this also applies to you can I please have your autograph because I'm pretty sure I've seen you star in every movie I've ever seen. Or at least your people, right? Don't try to tone down the damage I already know I'm categorized in this Asian fetish that all you'll ever see in me is rice and anime, nothing more, nothing less. And if I were to become an author instead of a doctor, I'd be considered as a social unnorm a disgrace but isn't it already disgraceful that in this bleached-colors world I have lost touch of my heritage, my roots replaced with a skeleton idea of who I'm supposed to be I wear a mask. My friends speak to my mom in their native language. Sitting there, disoriented, lost in pronunciation I ask my mother why she did not teach me her natural tongue. She says, "because you are American." And I still do not believe her.

A panacea, the band aid word I slap on conflict A solve it all Acronym for nothing and Diffuser of All scenarios. the  more politely phrased version of The mafia's cry. But no matter how you slant the saying, It's still salient- and a parched, bleached lie.

I'd plow her like the a farmer. I'd mount her like a knight. and if someone was looking. I'm sure it'd be quite a sight. I'd slay her with my dagger. It's hidden in my pants. and the only way she'll find it. is with her scalie slant. I'd stab her every night. I'd stab her every day. I'd stab her in the noon time. I'd stab her in the hay. I know my blade is useless, for killing foe or fiend. but for slaying  scalie women there's none better to be seen.

Lizard Chick.
I tied together a few slender reeds, cut notches to breathe across and made such music you stood shock still and then followed as I wandered growing moment by moment slant-eyes and shaggy, my feet slamming over the rocks, growing hard as horn, and there you were behind me, drowning in the music, letting the silver clasps out of your hair, hurrying, taking off your clothes. I can't remember where this happened but I think it was late summer when everything is full of fire and rounding to fruition and whatever doesn't, or resists, must lie like a field of dark water under the pulling moon, tossing and tossing. In the brutal elegance of cities I have walked down the halls of hotels and heard this music behind shut doors. Do you think the heart is accountable? Do you think the body any more than a branch of the honey locust tree, hunting water, hunching toward the sun, shivering, when it feels that good, into white blossoms? Or do you think there is a kind of music, a certain strand that lights up the otherwise blunt wilderness of the body - a furious and unaccountable selectivity? Ah well, anyway, whether or not it was late summer, or even in our part of the world, it is all only a dream, I did not turn into the lithe goat god. Nor did you come running like that. Did you?

Little speckled bird, quirky nerd, owl eyes- gleaming behind the glasses, often you zoom inwards and land in that never never land beyond the reach of most, yet I am in love with your ingeniousness that defies words. bit strange it may sound but I am one who explores the hidden spaces beyond my desired comfort zones. they warn me saying a nerd is a killjoy, nothing else Swimming against the tide I hear your excited chirps inside making me restless with anticipation, my intellectual slant received your approval, many times,I am hopeful growing my beard long I'll wait here, till you return completing your mission.

The nerd and her suitor
A Few lines etched where no words give weight. Good riddance say the veterans Of a nation gone sour with grief Like a lemon slice evaporating onto the tongue of the sick. But when the young yearn for White Nights, The old claim they are blinding lights to the cold sugary substance That supplants an easy path. The bullithole rush of renewal and loneliness and progress thwarted and abandoned, Inertia seeping through Into a cold summer's day. Between the cursing slant of sleek paved roadstrips, And the burning briars that thresh the border's haunt, What is picture postcard emerald Is in that same instance soviet architect gray. These are the sleepers bereft of the dream whose twenty-five stories high or ghost estates are domes to cast out the howling banshees, those suffrage of the real to be re-thought as mere props which surround the haloed glowing screen. So sheen the Motherland glows in untarnished eyes Familiar solely with glass behemoths parading with their reflections In grey water-drizzled streets, Only to be replaced by iridescent rainbows that foster a hope. A hope that was packaged and sold two decades back Since it was not worth carrying into the New World. The water-trough falls to where the electric line banishes, connects a spike, "rejuvenate the breakfast table"-some far-off God reports, Hades still waiting, Intel-chip Blue, epiphany at the gates.

Flicker Hive
I see a sunset in the west, The fishes and turtles under the ocean take their rest, Palm trees here and there; The sun is fading in the air. Royal-blue waves crashing in motion, A sea turtle peeps up out of the ocean, The sunset bears shades of red and gold; Colours so vivid and bold! The sunrays slant under the bay, It's nearly the end of a beautiful day, The sun slants under the sea; This place is so dear to me! Four palm trees on a high cliff, I breathe in the salty-sea all in a surprised sniff, I heave a sigh; While on the beautiful island I lie. One cliff and another one in the distance I see, What a beautiful treasure to see is the pretty sea, So beautiful is the day; No wonder people call this beautiful place Turtle Bay! ~Marian~

Tell all the Truth but tell it slant
In the slant of the sun on the country-side, Cattle and sheep trail home along the lane; And a rugged old man in a thatch door Leans on a staff and thinks of his son, the herdboy. There are whirring pheasants, full wheat-ears, Silk-worms asleep, pared mulberry-leaves. And the farmers, returning with hoes on their shoulders, Hail one another familiarly. ...No wonder I long for the simple life And am sighing the old song, Oh, to go Back Again.

Chao Phraya River
A Few lines etched where no words give weight. Good riddance say the veterans Of a nation gone sour with grief Like a lemon slice evaporating onto the tongue of the sick. But when the young yearn for White Nights, The old claim they are blinding lights to the cold sugary substance That supplants an easy path. The bullithole rush of renewal and lonliness and progress thwarted and abandoned, Inertia seeping through Into a cold summer's day. The water-trough delving where the electric line banishes, connects a spike, "rejuvenate the breakfast table"-some far-off God reports, Hades still waiting, Intel-chip Blue, epiphany at the gates.

Emerald and Scarlet As They Merge Into Grey
I'd always thought you were just a pretty face a beautiful smile gone to waste hooked on drugs and lost from love I'd always known you were a runaway I'd always thought that you were a tease 'till I read those words that terrified me because they were incredible and beautiful and they were written by a runaway You're so close to perfect and I'd tell you why but right about now you're probably high a beautiful disaster you're like a slant rhyme and no matter how hard I try I can't let myself get away from you you teenage runaway I want to run away with you Shame on me for assuming you weren't smart now i'm dodging the danger, the poison darts 'cause you're so close to everything that i think i might need Shame on me for writing this song it doesn't feel right, and I know that it's wrong and i wouldn't dare to believe that what I dream could be a reality you're so close to perfect and I'd tell you why but right about now you're probably high a beautiful disaster you're like a slant rhyme and no matter how hard I try I can't let myself get away from you you teenage runaway I want to run away with you I don't understand you but I want to and I want you to know that I don't give a **** what you do when you're alone because I don't want you to be alone You're such a mystery you've got a hook on half of me I'm not sure what i'm seeing when our eyes meet but i'm praying, i'm praying that it could be the chance i promised i'd take one day You're so close to perfect and I'd tell you why but right about now you're probably high a beautiful disaster you're like a slant rhyme and no matter how hard I try I can't let myself get away from you you teenage runaway I want to run away with you You and your contradictions you imperial affliction you teenage runaway I want to run away with you

WHEN cold December Froze to grisamber The jangling bells on the sweet rose-trees-- Then fading slow And furred is the snow As the almond's sweet husk-- And smelling like musk. The snow amygdaline Under the eglantine Where the bristling stars shine Like a gilt porcupine-- The snow confesses The little Princesses On their small chioppines Dance under the orpines. See the casuistries Of their slant fluttering eyes-- Gilt as the zodiac (Dancing Herodiac). Only the snow slides Like gilded myrrh-- From the rose-branches--hides Rose-roots that stir.

When Cold December
I love this place the most, The full moon's shadows on the rocky island coast, There's a ring around the moon big and bright; This is one of the most beautiful nights! The crashing blue waves are in motion, The whale came up out of the ocean, There are clouds in the sky and a faint sunset in the night; The moon rays slant under the ocean big and bright! The fishes and dolphins swiming beautifully under the sea, This place is quite a treasure for me, The clouds look as if they dance; For people call this place Diamond Head Romance.          *Marian*

Diamond Head Romance
a storyteller's perspective, steppin' off the ordinary edge, into the unknown An unsent letter lay on the rustic log cabin floor A cold wind musta’ blown through the cracks the light comes in, where it laid fallen, half *** crumbled, yet never a wadded ball; never an unspoken thrown paper stone,  a befallen regret was all. Silently atilt and leaning against the canted wall's slant behind the gathered dust a squeaky hinged burl wood door A timeworn tarnished copper wind up clock roosted, an old lip smirched coffee cup time stood still; an empty bottle of gin sat near the bed post headboard where the ink stains and blotted spillings let the memories in. Stained pages torn and bent like fallen paper wings returned to the unread sender … postage due,   south a heaven sent ― A sullied envelope, gnawed and mouse chewed, for a nest of new beginnings ―                                                                just read:                   Lydia  ...                                   ... followed by a scribbled empty heart                The time aged brown tattered tablet paper left behind stifled like the unread heart it holds upon the threadbare pages of smudged tear’s ache and spilled gin The weathered rock hearth fireplace filled with spent ashes, hand rolled cigarette butts, traces of an aching lament; scratched up old vinyl records lay ***** and tired out, from a time of sweeter fallen fences, a musical bliss, and a lost angel's abandoned red slinky party dress,   aside a busted off black velvet high-heel stuck sullied in a hollow knothole in the ancient barn-wood floor a sparkly pearl pink jewel entangled in a spider web An unsent letter lay on the rustic cabin floor A cold wind musta’ blown through the cracks the light gets in The final unread words silently said:                                *"We lost our way,                                   it all went wrong,                                   it all turned bad"                              ..."This is the outcome when someone you love                                     up and throws you away"                              ...“I’ll reach out from the inside                                   I’ll rise up again and do without”                              ..."You went out into the world                                   with an untamed hankerin’ ―                                   like a carefree restless gypsy breeze                                                                  and come back worlds apart"* The Unsent Letter,                             just whispered words to the dust in the wind                                                                                     in quivering ink:                              ...*"how can I ever unremember you...?                                   a thrown stone sinks wordlessly as a rock...,                                   an old wood bucket with a rotten hole the heart,                                   fallen forgotten, rock bottom as an empty well"*                                         just signed:   ...   ❤  August                           January 1st, 2017 ... august ... wild is the wind  ♡

Deep on the convent-roof the snows Are sparkling to the moon: My breath to heaven like vapour goes; May my soul follow soon! The shadows of the convent-towers Slant down the snowy sward, Still creeping with the creeping hours That lead me to my Lord: Make Thou my spirit pure and clear As are the frosty skies, Or this first snowdrop of the year That in my ***** lies. As these white robes are soil'd and dark, To yonder shining ground; As this pale taper's earthly spark, To yonder argent round; So shows my soul before the Lamb, My spirit before Thee; So in mine earthly house I am, To that I hope to be. Break up the heavens, O Lord! and far, Thro' all yon starlight keen, Draw me, thy bride, a glittering star, In raiment white and clean. He lifts me to the golden doors; The flashes come and go; All heaven bursts her starry floors, And strows her lights below, And deepens on and up! the gates Roll back, and far within For me the Heavenly Bridegroom waits, To make me pure of sin. The sabbaths of Eternity, One sabbath deep and wide-- A light upon the shining sea-- The Bridegroom with his bride!

St. Agnes' Eve
A borrowed attire A ***** curly fro A slant set of shoulders A "lawn" that is mowed Soft caramel skin Four new tattoos Old holes from piercings No longer in use. A taller frame And a nice juicy **** ******* to match But a small little gut A refurbished heart A genuine smile A great listener Keeps old things on file A charming stare But not much to say She'll sneak in your heart In a phenomenal way Ready for anything When put to the test Yes, she has her flaws But she's close to the best.
