How beautiful you are to me
With your varieties of colors and such
I look at you with great awe
Your beauty is my inspiration

No thrones and hooks
Just smooth skin and good looks
Not to big and not too skinny
Some how you managed
To be a perfect balance

You stand tall with pride
You stand in unity with your family
With your chest facing toward the sun
Ahh your beauty is something
i want to become

As time grows old
My admiration for you dies
You lose your beauty
Your face turn into nothing but old bones
Black as the night
As if you hold dark secrets
Like you've been through a rough life
A story untold

To those who protest on why they should say the word *****
Unfollow me

To those whose heart does not mourn over an innocent life of POC
Unfollow me

To those who yell "go back to Africa"
Unfollow me
if you cannot comprehend that your ancestors where not here first

To those who fail to understand their white privilege

To those who scream out "what about black on black crime"
Unfollow me
If you're blind to the multiple genocide your people create and label as "war"

To those who simply choose to ignore this injustice
Unfollow me for no action at all is the greatest injustice of all

Poison Ivy.
I must admit, I always questioned your ability to reciprocate the love that I deserve.
History has it that your charm and poison has a way of shinning through to people just like the way you got me.

Poison Ivy.
What was it that lured me to you? I think it was the way you pulled me in. As gentle as a dove and as wise as serpent. With every smell, every touch, as innocent as they appeared you took my breathe away.

Poison Ivy.
Will my last words ever be as sensual as your first touch? Did my eyes light up as my adrenaline rushed? Poison, friendship, love.... these words have become mundane and such.

Poison Ivy.
Will you still care for me? Is it better that we’re no longer friends? Even after I’ve chosen to die  and become vulnerable for you?

Antiguan Queen
Naptural Mermaid Jan 2019
It’s been told she has the heart of the Sun A bright bronze sphere
That can never turn down fun
Brazen is she towards those who stand in her way
Guided by faith, her feet never stray
No matter the currents or the strength of the Tides
She goes low when they fly high
Like Hawksbill, Green, Loggerhead and Leatherback
She attains the longevity they endure
Her voice is as sweet as the Black Pineapple
Her beauty resembles the Antiguan hibiscus
Some might even say more
For her beauty is something you can’t ignore
Whenever one door closes
She makes one more open
Always giving faith a fighting chance
Whenever the option arises
She always chooses to DANCE!
As the soca rhythm flows into her blood steam
And the bright colors of carnival collide
There outshining the others
You can find the person I call my “MOM”
My Antiguan Queen
Always representing red white black blue and gold pride

The House Cat That Ran Away
Naptural Mermaid Sep 2014
Curiosity killed the cat
But satisfaction brought him back

It was said
The truth will set you free
But I rather be in a cage you see

The World out there is too dangerous for I
Rather be home safe and cozy by the fire
Warmed up in due time

As you my pet back and pull my tail
I hiss in pain
But there's nothing like being home
Because I felt so alone out there in the cold

So continue calling me Grumpy
Although I'm a cat
As long as I'm with you
I'm ready to be pet
For Curiosity killed the cat
But satisfaction brought him back
I'm assuming this is the point of view from a house cat that runs away from home and comes back

Hydrophilic Am I
Whenever it comes to  you
As you carry me on my back
Light as a feather

Willing to go along with you
Because you'll always be there
And if I ever need a reminder
On how much you love me
I just count the waves

For I know the love you have for me
Is deeper than the submerge of a Cuvier's beaked whale
I  Do not fear when you carry me ashore
A surrounding I don't know
For I know you were just taking a rest
For the next journey
You're going to take me on

If you were to ever play too rough
I Just swim beneath your tides
Because you'll protect along this rough ride

As along as we're together
We can face challenges
As high as the sky

I want you to be there with me
For every step I take
As the moonlight helps guides new life
Into your door each night

How the lobster and crab tickle you
Or when the sting rays decide to play Hide and Seek
I'll be there to witness the coral reefs decorating your floor

You've been around for years
And all you want is a friend
So I do not fear when you take me in
For it's a welcome like never before

All  you want is for me to take this journey with you
For your friends usually come and go
Your shores go from being filled with laughter to the silence of the night

No more picnics or campfires
Just trash to remind you of the times you had
When the Bonze Sphere is no longer hot
No one comes to visit you anymore
it's like they forgot

I see it in your eyes that you long for lasting friend
So just know when I step foot inside your door
I'm here to stay for a little while more
My  love for water. I'll always be in the beach whether it's summer time or winter.

Tell them everything & don't leave out the good parts
Hell bent whispers for desperate listeners
I'm not proud of the things we did
No, it didn't work out ... we were just kids
Knowing I stand tall in courage to leave

Go on and tell them why I needed to flee
Oh, everyone is talking about me
Oh, I've kept it mute  so you wouldn't fall
Don't leave out the good parts, tell it all!

Tell them everything & in between
How you've become so mean... you've got your story & I got mine
Oh, the secrets you've told me
Uh, were a waste of my time
Good sweet lies as you said " I love you"
How do you feel now? Seeing me rise above you
Tell em how you broke my heart
Should have left but was blinded from the start

Just continuous restless nights
Knowing my decision was right

Fine lines were breaking
Unbreak my heart now that beats to a different drum
Continuous agony has made me go numb
Knowing **** well it was all affecting me

You tarnish my character just so you can look clean
Oh, after it all. I promised to never fall
Uh, at least tell them I'm a good kisser.

Think Good Thoughts! JK! *******!

Tonight I've finally gotten a chance to see
The love you give ever so sweetly
Tonight let the love I  have for you
Be instilled within your heart
Therefore you can never question if I ever loved you

Make the love we make be an everlasting treasure
Never just moment's of pleasure
Whenever you let your motion guide your emotions
I ask you to remember the love we share
During your minutes of despair

When we go on nights with words unspoken
I'm unsure of your love
Therefore when my heart is broken
Will our love still be one?

I need you to remind me
That you'll still love me tomorrow

How beautiful is she?
Who has fallen in the darkest tunnel
How bright is she?
Not knowing her smiles are equivalent to a ray of sunshine
How tall is she?
For we may never know, if she does not stand
How pale is she?
They've been rumors that her skin is as fine as chocolate
How wise is she?
Beyond her years of every mans dream
How can she leave the tunnel?
How beautiful is thee
One will never know her head fills with agony
Stuck in a tunnel if she only knew
She is the light at the end of this tunnel if only if she moved.

The Prayer of a Sinner
Naptural Mermaid Feb 2016
My mind morns to be at ease soon
As I confess my sins
While I kneel at the cross at noon
Tears stream down my chin

I know not what the curse may be
Therefore I pray to thee
Wash away these ungodly sins from me

Woe I pray but my God does not answer
Wake dear Lord I plea
Open an listening ear and release me

From child I've been told we are born with sin
I lived with little remorse or fear
How grateful I was for the dark within
Causing trouble for many near and dear

Theres a part of me that seeks to be free
I hails God name
As if theres a Christian soul hidden in me

As I mature from my childish ways
I yearn to be a saint
No longer craving my devilish days

God I call your name
For this is what a sinner prays

May you look upon our sins and wash them away
May my actions only be of good deeds
May the words  I speak cause no harm
May mind be clear of horrid thoughts
May you always watch over me

Naptural Mermaid Dec 2013
I call myself a poet
Yet I'm not grammarly correct
Taking bad breaks
Rhyming here and there

I call myself a poet
As if poetry has been instilled in me
Like I learned it

I call myself a poet
Who has nothing to say but to
Only express my complex emotions

I call myself a poet
Maybe I'm just some pretentious girl
Trying to be deep
Knowing that the words I express
Are not me

I call myself a poet
Hoping that one day
Someone else will know it

I call myself a poet
Repetition of these words
So it could be heard
That I call myself a poet

If you’re so bored, why don’t you explore?
It’s cold outside which I can’t ignore

If you’re so bored, why don’t you pick up a book?
But nothing excites me or has me hooked

If you’re so bored, why don’t you sing a song?
My hearts yearns for a rhythm that can’t be sung

If you’re so bored, why not draw it down?
My brain is tired from overthinking and I can’t seem to draw it out...

If you’re so bored, why not call a friend?
Everyone is busy working or networking

If you’re so bored, why don’t watch a movie?
It doesn’t feed me and again, nothing is exciting

If you’re so bored, what can you possible do?
I sat here and wrote this poem for me and you.

Listen To Me
Naptural Mermaid Jun 2020
You see the way my hips curve
And my Lips full to the compacity
But you can't see an officer killing me?
I am a Black Woman...LISTEN TO ME

You see the clothes I wear
And you like how I can move my feet
But You can't see I'm running from an officer killing me?
I am a Black Woman... LISTEN TO ME

You see my hair defies gravity
My vernacular makes you intrigued
but you can't see my voice is being silenced by an officer?
I am a Black Woman. LISTEN TO ME

You love my sweet music and how I can dance to beat
quick to argue if you can say the n-word
but dismiss the officer killing me
I am a Black Woman... LISTEN TO ME

I can shout, "I can't breathe."
I can show my hands that hold no weapon
I can police myself to make sure I'm being respectful to the officer
Yet his gun is pointed at me.

No matter how I act
Whether I sit still or dance
I am a Black Woman... LISTEN TO ME

I can show you my I.D
I can tell you my Name
I can tell you my story of hardship and pain
But you REFUSE TO LISTEN TO ME

I am a Black Woman...I shall be FREE

A Gurl Like Me
Naptural Mermaid Jan 2022
Am I not made in your likeness?

fearfully and wonderfully made feels like it doesn’t apply to me.
And yet, that's how you continue to see me despite the inner me which I sometimes deem as the enemy.

Am I not made in your likeness?

Why does it feel like Jeremiah 29:11 is a distance
Not realizing I’ve already won
Holding on to the hope and future that will become  for thy will be done

Am I not made in your likeness?

So much so that you chose to mold me like clay making sure I’m crafted to the perfection you’ve called me to be

Am I not made in your likeness?

Why should I continue to question your love for me?

Am I not made in your likeness?

Yes, I am made from my father's image. How wonderful you are to choose a girl like me.

Be Kind to The Messenger
Naptural Mermaid Mar 2023
Should it matter that the messenger of truth may not meet my expectation
The one who can easily see my vulnerability, or ways I need to make improvements

Does it matter the brand of the carrier of this package
As long as it’s delivered successfully then the job is done

Oh, Ego,  do not be quick to be bruised
Regardless of their intent here lies an opportunity for you

A chance to be brave
A chance to face me
A chance to make positive progress

Why do you put your shield toward the messenger?
Or care about how they look?

Can two truths not stand?
Can someone maybe be speaking from their own personal experience
For that may be why they can see you

But what if they’re projecting?
What if they cannot handle my package of being me
What if….they’re rejecting me?

Oh,  how beautiful is your curiosity
My friend, it’s easier to assume that all come with good intent
Trust in the Lord, Jesus Christ, to help you with discernment

Take hold of what may be true
Knowing that Christ loves every part of you
Even with the hope and freedom to Grow
Who you are now is the best version of you

So my friend, ego or pride, embrace this truth
Allow yourself to bloom
Enjoying the progress of life:
Seeds (seed formation), germination (the process of something coming into existence and developing), growth (the courage to be who you were created to be), and the beauty of the flowering plant (pollination: planting seeds..)
So you can gain the courage to start the cycle of life again

Seething Contempt
Naptural Mermaid Apr 2020
America is a melting *** indeed
A mixture of anger, anxiety, sadness, death, vulnerability
A failing government suddenly granting human rights and needs

What will become of thee?
A prayer for a silver lining
A change, maybe something free

Universal health care
Cancellation of student loans
Essentials workers earning more than fifteen?

What will it be?

As the Earth resets itself
I'm forced to face reality
To read a book
Learn to listen
Rest for 7-8 hours
Exercise
Create art
Renew my mindset
Meditate and Pray on Jesus's words
Heal
Face my monsters
Greet my angels
Sing a song

Unbeknown to me
I've been in a battle of what my new reality should be
I will constantly choose to live by faith until I'm free

It's not easy and I don't proclaim it to be
Take each day responsibly
You have a choice and voice that can move mountains
Circumstances do not determine your joy

We are witnessing the good the government can do for the people
Do not be silent
Do not hold on to seething anger

Speak up, make phone calls
Vote
Choose life
We deserve better

Change starts with you
Then maybe America can truly be great
Disagreements, dislikes and etc are inevitable
However, creating a solution is for what is right is attainable
Maybe humanity for all people will embody empathy
This isn't a poem, just an expression of anger, anxiety, and feelings of hope.

God told storm
To make me brave
How I’ll follow the examples of the rain.

To shed fearless…all my pain
So I got down on my knees and began praise

God told the storm
To cover me
Hiding me from all my enemies
I can’t believe it! I complained about the rain
for it was my Lord providing refuge that I prayed…

God told the storm
To clear my path
So I may move on from the past

Knowing he’s my peace
I can count on Jesus constantly
May you find peace in this poem/song.
