The nebulae
paint the universe
from lightyears away.
Strokes of colour and light
so majestic that I cannot help but
see a part of my soul in
those waves of gas that stretch
across our galaxy.
Mitch Prax Dec 2019
If some *******
should say we had a history
of any sort,
kick them in the head.
And if some *******
says were were in love,
kick them in the head
again.
Mitch Prax Nov 2023
You are never far,
just a photograph away.
The nights are never cold,
as I envision your smile.
I'm never really alone,
as I recall the memories.
Mitch Prax Oct 2017
It hurts
day by day.
I can feel you fade
and slip away,
through my fingers
that were never yours
anyway.
Mitch Prax Mar 2019
I'm sorry I
didn't tell you
that I was back in town.
I was scared, I was anxious
of this time and space between us-
an aching silence echoed across the seas.
You know that all you have to do
is call out my name
and I'll be back
in a heartbeat.
Mitch Prax May 2023
It is time for you to let it go.
Only you can be the one to erase,
to rise above and to move on.
Fill your garden with new seeds
and learn to love
what will blossom.
Mitch Prax Jan 2014
I’m not the person that you think I am
I’m not that person anymore
I see them calling, I do not blink an eye
They have the right number, it doesn’t faze me
There’s nothing I can offer,
Nothing I can say
I’m not that person anymore
I’m not who you’re looking for,
Not anymore
Mitch Prax Dec 2017
For some reason,
this is the one day of the year
where we place an immense amount
of pressure on ourselves
to have fun, to be social.
On Valentine’s Day,
you’re either with your partner
or you’re not.
On Christmas, you’re with family.
On your birthday, anything goes.
But on New Years,
you’re either out
having a blast or
you’re all
alone.
Mitch Prax Dec 2022
The night comes and
I find myself needing you more than usual.
The stars don't seem to shine
as bright without you
and the cold builds.
Mitch Prax Apr 2019
She finds comfort in the night.
Not as warm or popular
as the day.
It must be the silence
caressing her soul at night
or the darkness that washes away
the dirt from yesterday.
She waits for the night-
she waits for the peace.
Mitch Prax Jul 2024
One common misconception
about night owls is that it
isn't about staying up late,
not to party or to relax,
but the feeling the silence
and the darkness brings.
In this solitude we find peace of mind,
we find the atmosphere to create,
to work and to unwind.
The world is asleep and I
have never felt more alive.
Mitch Prax May 2022
All the heartbroken,
the lonely and the dreamers
all hear the same song in these
early hours of the morning.
We are solitary
yet the night sings us
to sleep or something
more sinister.
Mitch Prax May 2020
Please understand
that if I call
out your name
in the middle of
the night,
it is because you
kept a piece of
my soul
buried beneath your
pillowcase.
Mitch Prax Sep 2020
You deserve to win
the Nobel Peace Prize
for bringing peace to this heart.
It has known nothing
but war and disarray
for far too long.
Thank you.
Mitch Prax Mar 2015
I looked and I looked
deep into your eyes
And there you were
Lost in the fires
You were lost
Nobody was home
I screamed and I screamed
I screamed your name
But nobody was home
You were lost to the flame
Mitch Prax Jan 2019
You and I.
We had no ending,
not even a goodbye.
Now I am left
to wonder why.
Mitch Prax Sep 2021
We know nothing.
The only difference is that
some of us know we
know nothing.
Mitch Prax Mar 2022
I will no longer
know anything about you
and you will no longer
remember my name.
I will no longer
cross your thoughts
and you will no longer
dream about me.
I will no longer
share your warmth
and you will no longer
hold these hands.
Mitch Prax May 2024
What is so sad
about nostalgia is
how it leaves one frozen
in time.
Mitch Prax Feb 2022
You know
you are okay
when you are no
longer fixated
on nostalgia
Mitch Prax May 2024
Nostalgia can be
like your favorite jacket:
it'll keep you warm in times of cold
but can become unbearable
when life starts to burn.
Mitch Prax Apr 2023
What better feeling
than to look at someone
who once broke your heart and
feeling nothing at all.
Mitch Prax Sep 2015
Sit with me, dear friend
One more time, before I go
Let's pretend this night won't end
And we never have to go home
Nothing matters when the moon is out
In sweats or tatters you're entrancing
Whether in bed or out and about
This view makes me feel like dancing
You've never been more beautiful
Standing underneath the moon
Whether a crescent or half-full
Whether it be to an awful tune
Mitch Prax Apr 2024
They are
dreams and
nothing more.
Impossible ones-
simply illusions
that have worn
out over time.
Mitch Prax Jan 2019
Now,
each step
is the farthest
I’ve ever gone without you
and when I look back and
see the moon above the city where you sleep,
the more I realize that I left my heart
underneath your pillow.
Mitch Prax Sep 2022
I was full of fear, hurt and sorrow.
I thought I would remain alone forever
as I bore your absence rather than face my flaws.
It took some time, but now I am free-
free from your shadow and spite.
Even more, I am okay with solitude,
for solitude is a better companion
than you ever were.
I can now finally close the door and
embrace the lessons I learnt the hard way.
So much heartbreak was not in vain.
Mitch Prax Aug 2020
I am not
for everyone.
I am not
for this life.
I am not even for myself
on most days.
Mitch Prax Sep 2019
One, two,
crush on you.
Three, four,
miss you more.
Five, six,
my heart you fix.
NY
Mitch Prax Jul 2020
NY
I love you
louder than
the city that never sleeps.
New York,
it's got nothing on us,
baby.
Mitch Prax Feb 2024
I want to
drink from your
lips as if you were
an oasis in
the desert.
Mitch Prax May 2022
In this desert
we call life,
you are my
oasis.
Mitch Prax Oct 2023
No matter how many
obstacles life throws at me,
I will always love you,
and will fight such obstacles
to hold on to and cherish
the miracle that is you.
Mitch Prax Sep 2023
I do envy the ocean.
They call its darkest parts
mysterious,
not ugly.
Mitch Prax Jun 2020
Drifting across your sea-
carry me away with your waves
away from these people
and this land I have outgrown.
Maybe I will drown
but that's a risk I'm willing to take
if it means I get to
breathe you in.
Mitch Prax Oct 2024
October,
the month of blossoms
and hopeful horizons.
Perhaps this hibernating heart
can come out again and
bask in the new sun-
perhaps it will thaw out
one last time.

OD
I overdosed
on love
and found a detox
in lust.
Off
Mitch Prax Mar 2023
Off
How easily it was
for you to leave.
How simple it was
for you to turn off the switch
and move on with
your life.
Mitch Prax Jan 24
You may never
read my words
and that is okay-
as long as I have a way
to get this off my chest.
Mitch Prax Jul 2014
Of this sorrow
The heavens fall
Alone in the cosmos
Where only darkness crawls

Of this sorrow
The silence screams
There’s no more afterglow
There’s no more dreams

Of this sorrow
This feeling lingers on
It circles me like a crow
And in one swoop I am gone
Mitch Prax Jul 2022
Oh Chai,
you cleanse this soul.
Your warmth rushes through this body
on the way to this frozen heart.
So sweet you are,
I need you every night.
Oh Chai,
it's you that makes me feel alright.
Mitch Prax Jan 2014
For a long time,
I had gotten used to being alone and not having to depend on anyone but myself.
I made myself believe I didn’t need anyone and that feelings weren't an issue.
That I could be completely fine on my own.
But then you came into my life.
I made the mistake of opening up.
And now you've turned everything around.
I'm back where I started,
only now, i feel like a fool for even thinking that things could change.
I guess there's nothing I can do but clean up the mess and move on.
It scares me, to not have control like that.
How easy it is to become open and vulnerable.
It scares the **** out of me...
One
Mitch Prax Jan 2018
One
I have made a mess of you
in my thoughts again.
I didn’t know I could feel this way,
neither did she.
Two hearts, one soul
Two cities, one smile
Yet we’re both scared
for different reasons
She feared I wasn’t real
I feared it wouldn’t last.

I'm one call away
from leaving it all behind
just to be with
you
Mitch Prax Mar 2023
I write
even though you
are not reading.
I will continue to write
in hopes that one day
you will.
Mitch Prax Feb 2018
Every time I see our pictures
Only one thought runs through my mind
and I have nothing left to say.
It’s not that I have no words for you,
It’s that they always slip away.
Every greeting, every compliment
weights down my heart
as I remember you’re no longer mine.
All I can do now is hope that,
every once in a while,
you see those pictures
and I cross your mind once again
that you feel me in your veins
and maybe cause your heart
to skip a beat;
maybe I can make you smile
one last time.
Mitch Prax Jul 2023
So many places to travel,
wisdom to obtain, music to hear
books to read, poems to write,
people to meet, food to eat,
all in this one life to live.
One life is not enough.
Mitch Prax Aug 2021
Fear not,
your soulmate
will make you fall in love
with yourself too.
They are you and
you are them.
Two souls,
one love.
Mitch Prax Nov 2024
One more quadrennial,
one more election.
One more dawn,
one more day.
One day more and
we turn a page and enter
one more chapter of history.
Mitch Prax Jun 2018
I fall in love a little bit more
each time we are together.
The sun warms up,
the moon glistens brighter,
as does your smile,
whenever I'm with you.
