Drifting slowly through life, one should always stop to smell the roses
They won't stay forever, and you won't notice them until they vanish
There is nothing more beautiful than a light rose in the morning time
With dew-drops glistening in the sunrise, soft petals starting to unravel
The thick incense blossoming with the flower as it slowly emerges
The knowledge that you've been the lucky one to see it bloom
Knowing that you will cherish it forever.

I was adrift, soaring high and fast, never noticing the beauty around me
Climbing higher and higher, I ignored my burning wings and the sun
I didn't see why I as aflame, I didn't realise my mistake until I fell
I couldn't have possibly known that that was the reason I had fallen
Tumbling from the sky I viewed the earth from a whole new light
You could see for miles with the sun at your back
The whole world was your oyster, nothing could ever stop you
Knowing that you would cherish it forever.

Imagine, me falling from the sky, the wind ripping at my soul
I could see new beauty, yet there was no light in it at all
It tried to consume me as I fell, spiraling down until I knew the ground
We were good friends as I fell, though I never did get to meet the earth
You saved me from this, my fall, my implosion into myself
I was burning to the ground and with one look from you, I was free
I could forget all that had happened, why I was falling, for I knew now
I knew that someone, someone in this wild world we live in
I realised that if someone could love someone like me
Then I had to stay and love them too, and they knew it too
Knowing you would cherish it forever.

I'm just a flower in a gun, hurtling through space.
Marvelling at all that's around me.
She is in love with me, all of me, and I overflowing in love for her.
And I know that me, and her? We'll cherish it forever.
A ballade for her

here we hang, specters in the wind
nails in our wrists, crowned king
our necklace of rope binds us to the sky
feet dangling, blood dripping, all down
we hang crucified
our blood rusts the nails
drops of blood work harder than
sin
we fall every day

your vignette fades into itself
static plays on the television
in and out my vision comes, loving
you, watching you leave me again

every night in which I incite myself to rise
on my lips lies only your name, and never yours

drifting away we know this can't last
if only it hadn't elapsed, then you could stay

Shostakovich's 15th builds in, ardent in passion I
remember your sultry dance, a pout,
a glimmer, take me back into elysian
Ariel couldn't bring you back herself
Who doesn't love the Tempest from Shakespeare?

our moon circles about the earth
our earth circles about the sun
and yet I don't feel like I'm spinning

My head is clear, my eyes are closed, my heart is
open and I am alive

The past is over and the future is far away and
here we are now; Living
breathing, an existence

absolute in its simplicity enigmatic in its complexity

my life's ephemera flashes before me as I stand in the same
realm I did last year, the same position in the void of space
calls to me

and as I sit, wafts of the Darjeeling mixing with bubbles of music, June, I know that I am happy. I know I am ready

within us lies something so resplendent that it appears
void, an endless nihility, from which your singularity is grown

We all know the trope of nothing becoming something, a crane lamenting to the orbs above, flowers opening with the fall.
You've seen the time lapses, you know the spin around us. Yet nothing could be farther from our reality. We weren't built to be nothing, we weren't built from nothing. Lachesis draws for us, but her luck is strong. There isn't reason to believe otherwise.

Enveloping our corporeal flesh, resolving away our dissolve, filling us up from the outside and pooling into the hollows of our eyelids, we forget to find wisdom in emptiness
Lost inside the flow of time, hands outstretched, fingers melting through our friends, our parents, our lovers, the human population revolves around revolutions, anchored in place by only the weakest force in the universe
Held down by the stuff that composes planets, moons, stars, all pointless to us

The only thing that matters lays at our feet, trod upon day and night, it lays in our chests, wrenched from our chests, lays at our feet, and is trampled.
I started this February 7th
And it was a gift for him
But now it can't be
Because it tastes wrong

Remember when you said you loved me?
I do recall this when the night returns,
how could you bear to lie so carelessly?
But a simple kiss was all I yearned.
This eternal night in which I now reside,
silences all hope for your redemption.
I could not imagine for you to lie,
this is but a false realization.
Something begins to grow inside my heart,
the spark of life and love slowly dying.
I thought you were a lovely piece of art,
but now I realize you were lying.
I wish and I pray but you only left,
one final kiss from my Angel of Death.
Still a work in progress, my first sonnet. Tips?

the butterflies

they fly around me, swirling fast, blocking out the sun,
they swarm through me, taking my breath away, leaving me speechless
they burst out of me, my every pore, all of me

the butterflies

they will never leave me, they will always follow me, keeping me company with their bright wings and large eyes, never questioning me, yet keeping me silent and compliant

the butterflies

I'm used to them, following me, keeping me from speaking, making me hold my tongue and agree, to just agree and smile and let you do it,
but yet

the butterflies

I've always loved them, they loved me, and slowly we became something entirely new, something to revel in for all the ages, a new metamorphosis, something beautiful and perfect

the butterflies

they're gone now, they have left me alone, I will never seem them again, I used to think they loved me but they left me all by myself in this world, they have abandoned me

the butterflies

they are gone forever, I can never see them and they will never return, this cruel world we live in has rid itself of them, and they are no longer, the butterflies have fallen

but

the butterflies

left you behind for me

*and you love me back
I've always loved butterflies. For her

honey and flesh
dripping from their weary dreams
a ripple in an orchard of diamonds
grey flurries fall soundless
sorcery in the shadows

gentle forms toil within the frigid air
scorched in dusk, damaged from the storm
their tears flow
collect in the aperture of tempests
elucidating

lifted, their fate descends into moonlight
the rain stops
fate awakens
becomes silken
and separates

Darkness. Overwhelming. Overpowering. Raw.
Darkness is not a thing. It is a feeling, an absence, a terror.
If you let it in, it will consume you.
If you try to fight it without hope, you will spiral into it.
However, if you have hope, light, a sense of being, it will fun from you.
Light. Hope. Redemption. Filling.
Light is not a thing. It is a feeling of greatness, kindness, true beauty.
Without it, darkness will win. If you give it up, you will die.
Light is what drives the human. If you are not light, you will be dark.
Light. Dark. Light. Dark.
An endless struggle between unseen forces to power your soul.
If one wins you are happy. If the other succeeds, you will be miserable.
If you are mostly light, humans call you good.
If you are mostly dark, humans call you evil.
However, if there is no light, darkness has zero meaning, and if there is no dark, light is useless.
They cannot be without the other or they will fail.
If you are stuck with darkness embedded in you, there is not much to be done about it.
You can try to be happy; it might work or it might not.
If you have light embedded in you, then there is no chance of you becoming dark.
You may try, but you shall fail.
Light. Dark. Light. Dark.
It is to forever be endless, overwhelming,
redeeming, overpowering, hopeful, and raw.
They are both eternal.

Write when you're sad
Write if you think no one is reading it
Write if it you know everyone is
just
~write~
because it's you!
and you're a beautiful, brilliant unique spontaneous person
and above all, you're an artist, a poet, an author
someone is reading it, will read, has read it
and you know what?
they loved it
and they love you

When she has a bad day and yours falls to pieces
when you build her back up, and realise you're put together again too,
when she cries and you wipe away her tears
and when you realise her tears are yours,
does that mean you love her?
I think so. For her.

Awash with laughter
Yes - I’ve been drinking Irony
But it’so amusing
I can’t stop! We
Blow him up and compare
him to The devil
and cloak him in night’s wings
The reality is he’s just not!
So small; so pink; so moist and wet!
the Harbinger is not more
than just a worm

From between hewn peaks, a far-off moon
emerges at the edge of my brushwood gate.

Ten thousand trees sharing its clear skies
as shadows blur toward the heart of night,

its radiance offers emptiness white images
and its ch'i invests wind with ice-cold dew.

The valley's silent. Autumn streams echo.
Deep among cliffwalls, scraps of azure haze

linger. Crystal pure, it enters isolate dream,
opening shadows, embracing empty peaks,

then I wake at my ch'in window confused:
pine creek at dawn, not a thought anywhere.

My favorite poem
Andie Oct 2017
is where the Elk River falls
from a rocky and considerable height, turning pale with trepidation at the lip
(it seemed from where I stood below)
before it is unbuckled from itself
and plummets, shredded, through the air
into the shadows of a frigid pool, so calm around the edges, a place
for water to recover from the shock
of falling apart and coming back together
before it picks up its song again,
goes sliding around the massive rocks
and past some islands overgrown with weeds
then flattens out and slips around a bend
and continues on its winding course,
according to this camper’s guide,
then joins the Clearwater at its northern fork,
which must in time find the sea
where this and every other stream
mistakes the monster for itself,
sings its name one final time
then feels the sudden sting of salt

the red glow, gentle, not as vertiginous as the air,
is saved only by its ethereal nature
from being swept up into the churning night.

it is this same nature that condemns it to
suffuse into the blooming blue lambency-
which is now green. and now peach.

even feigning surprise becomes impossible
in this place of transmutation
when examined by the soul

those with physical forms are not spared either
but some are more mutable than others:

peach juice, for example, ripens with glycerol, and relinquishes
its color when it diffuses into wine
which holds its color, no matter the light
and will seep through fabric, when conditions are right
like every other form of nectar here

so be free of it, drop it all on the ground
making little mounds of cloth, little
mole-hills in the dark

which blend less, but
black-and-white houndstooth
perfectly matches a brown
Birkenstock (or bag) in our own
personal heaven.

A lace wrapping, a soft shoe, fit snug around her rosy toes
Softer than voile, the ribbons snake up her legs, bowed around
her ankles
Cool metal presses against the calfskin coverings
bolted in place, digging deep into the music

A perfect fouetté, and another, and another, and another, twenty-eight
more to go and she's still turning high above the earth, fourteen inches in the air, suspended only by the glistening steel beneath.

The ruffles fly out around her, arms loosely above, hair tight, toes
broken and strong
En pointe, a pinnacle achievement for those in the discipline, yet these points remain out of reach for most
as they dig deep
into the piano while she pirouettes en dehors right before the scarlet

just imagine
seeing the water jettison into the sky,
the spray bursting off clouds
mist glistening through air as colors drip between droplets
the base of the water-rise acting in place of the precipice of a water-fall
just before liquid jewels ascend towards the empyreal
and separate into a thousand small gems, each with their own color, their own purpose
to the surrounding Vleiroos at the summit

But We don't rely on water
we grow and bend and ebb and flow with the water rising past us
But we cannot rely upon it
it does not char and burn, nor crackle and conflagrate like our lover does
he is the one who burns us up and blows us apart and turns us from ashes to dust to doxy and expiry all through accouchement

blessed be the fruit
of the vleiroos in the winter
and blessed be the water
given to the vleiroos in spring
and blessed be the fire
that carries the vleiroos through pullulation
Why be my water-rise when you could be my flames?

The piano resounds, flooding us over with the mood
Counting headlights on the highway, take me away
It's a moon eclipsed, and my newfound flame, I guess you're lucky
that it's dark now
Sometimes this has a hot sweet taste;your breath’s hot and gross, but I kiss you like a lover. We're dancing in a world alone - if I unchain my soul, you can never let me go
I sink into you like water, be gentle with me have patience with me
we sink like a stone in your honey ~ just beware the bees
Heaven is in your eyes, and you hold me hard in the white light
We love like star-crossed lovers, with blind eyes, and when you call me beautiful all four flash with joy
Call it what you want, but we both know that everything is eventual
I'd like it if you stayed, but is it better to speak or die?

An apple tree bending under the weight  of its fruit
a breeze strong enough to shake the leaves from their branches, but
caring for naught more than their children
downwards they bend, twisting in their descension, until the very top ends of the tree have come to rest on the warm earth;
filled with love from their parents - the sun, the earth, and the tree,
they grow, they swell, almost to the point of bursting,
they have no choice but to grow
I think it's determination that pulls us through when you beg,

crescent moon
illuminating, enlightening, cool
she is all of this - but not tonight
the sky is too dark, she is too weak, you are too far away from me
for any of it to matter
Love can strike us in an instant
and we can take a lifetime to understand it.
just as her eyes strike my retinae
just as your visage strike my face
just as you struck me
but she will always spin, orbiting around me,
until the pull of gravity cannot hold her anymore
just as you have already left
Andie Dec 2017
The morning mist coils about my feet as
the leash tugs us forward, drawn by
four little paws, two droopy ears, and a
permanently flickering tail. A most magnificent
sunrise was beginning to blossom across the
heavenly firmament. Rosy smoke spreading
red and gold through the air, when the
orb falls. Not a slow descent, but a collapse.
Light is ripped from my corneæa, a
whimper educed from the purple
ink in front of us and the leash
lies flat, empty. Clutching my arm, her
fear pours into me, stronger than the surrounding
bleak and black. And she too is gone, following the splintering
of wood and rock as the surround blows
away from me.
I cannot feel it anymore. The constant pull.
I believe it to be

because I am free now
I am good morning

You think you're such a heavy heart, don't you?
Why do you think I can't lift you?
You've lifted me higher than I ever could imagine darling
nothing could drag me down again, now that I have you in my arms.
but you
You want to believe you're so heavy, that you're dragging me down,
that you could be hindering me in anyway. You cling to it, hoping, for some reason, that you're such a heavy heart weighing on me.
I wish you knew how high off of the ground you actually were.
cause baby, I've got your feet off the ground.

Her
I think I'm in love.
How can I really know if I'm in love though?
Is love knowing how many kisses fit between her eyes?
What about looking at her and being blown away every time?

I'm pretty certain I'm in love.
I spend the sleepless nights thinking about how her hair falls when I play with it.
I think about caressing her fair skin as I kiss the back of her neck.
I think about her lips brushing against me and shiver, every single time.

I know I'm in love.
When she lays on me I feel her breathing, our heartbeats aligning.
She face flushes and her hair floats down to cover her beautiful face.
Her absolute perfection shines over me, and I can't help but stare.

I'm totally in love.
The sound of her name is more pleasing than anything the greatest composers could ever write.
Her body is easily comparable to the Greek's idea of perfection.
Her mind works so ingeniously I have to take a step back, in order to even understand the brilliance behind every comment.

I'm in love with her.
For you, my dear. Sorry that you will never find it in this hidden corner of the internet.

If a poet and a photographer fall for each other,
do they make art or love?
A wordsmith in opposition with reality, submerging into the abstractions of thought and emotion, time and space; smashing into a chronometer, yet more, one who freezes time and space, thought and emotion, in one glimmer worth more than anything discernable. What do they make together?
And a dancer and a pianist?
That’s even more disparate than the prior!
Broken bodies contorting within every imaginable plane, expressing hidden universal truths kept deep within their fluid forms. Warped feet or warped hands. Once the creator, now reduced to used. An ivory river sparkled with ebony, with which splashes and ripples could rip the hearts of men, fallen to nothing.
In the grey folds of the mind, we find worse and worse combinations, abnormalities shaping from shattered thoughts and twisted fantasies: a girl and a girl, a boy and a boy, two humans bound by the things they love. One of the infinite being the other. Impossible

I glace to the left and see your body all strewn out
smiles flicker, eyes alight, you're my first place

and as the sands fall and time slips away
we pull each other close and embrace for the day

When the vibrant colors of the sinking garnet sphere finally subside,
a new stage is set for another spectacular performance.
Less colorful, of course, but still moving.
Look! To the east, the beginning of a silver arc is growing from our Terra.
It swells up, dancing in the wind, shooting iridescent silver beams of light, like Diana's arrows they shoot off over the world, illuminating everything in their paths.
At long last, the wind has lifted this phosphorescent giant into the sky.
It casts no shadow, only flowing strings of silk, enveloping the world in its soft effulgence.
Rising, seeming forever throughout the night.
Sadly, like most stunning things, it must end.
It will reach its peak and then fall.
Like an Argentum balloon slowly deflating, it descends into moondown.
Immediately after it has fallen, the Aurum orb starts rising again.
Some revere its awesome power, however, some deny it.
For as the sun blinds and burns, the moon enlightens and illumes.

I used to write dark poetry.
Poetry about sadness. Conflicting Powers, and Dark Moonrises.
The word dripped from my pen, the ink as black and bleak as the thoughts that gripped my conscious mind.
My unconscious mind was worse. Filled with midnight horrors and darkness, I worried it might consume me.
And it did, for a time.
It was bad. I was bad.
Now, though, I have you. You saved me. I could see the bottom, I was riding the endless spiral into the ground and before my head split, you saved me.
Now I write happy poetry. I write for the beautiful things.
I write of the most beautiful thing.
I write for you. Everything that I do, I do it all for you
I owe you my life. I can never repay you. And so, I write.

will remain united over gravity every time

Beating fast, thrusting deep, and pooling out
filling the air and fluttering down, leaves in fall,
love
No beginning and no end, no opposition or alternate
light has dark, friends have enemies, the moon has the sun
yet love lies alone, single, and disconnected

lost, left to the wolves, lingering in the shadows, as the couples spin 'round in their merry dance, warring without remorse, battling until they have become extinguished, broken by their own force

love and hate, are just
two words
