No such beauty
           longer dwells
         under the guise
      of flesh and bones,
           in the garden
      of a sullied heart

           fallow heart
     barren and longing                                                  .
        time built walls
      an unfillable void
           burdens tall,
      beggared of light
        befallen within

  a devolving moment
so many flowers wither
       left in a broken
         heart of gold

    a gardener knows
        sweetest soils
     of love and light,
     without sunshine
              sour
    as unripened fruit

     memories fading
          as if florae
    never blossomed
        perpetuating
     wholly starving,
    unweedable roots
            too deep,
  rupture when pulled

        a **** let be
            beauty

   unfertile seeds sown
       where nothing
        longer grows
    in an uninhabited
             silence

raging unseen within
  the fires of the ages
still smoldering inside,
   mingled with hope
        left for dead

hidden in the shadows
an engulfing stone cold,
handwriting on the wall
of silence growing taller

I see you look the other way
    forbearing a feigned sigh
feeling the restrained ache
amidst
     a myopic casual glance
            from the corner
             of your eyes

so beautiful ― oh so beautiful
            so afraid the sun might
                      catch you crying

hearing the silent refrain  echo
like hindsight in a box of tears
abetting an awkward growing distance
        manifest

  reality  weighted
         gravity
pushing down stronger

   pacing the cage
          door
      swung   open
with nowhere left to go

Its not just a dead end
                          crossroads
in the wake of some aftermath
      a portal passed
           through
           long ago

  where mazy shadows
   linger like memories
          of someone
     you used to know

come rain or come shine
    falling leaves
return to the roots
like teardrops return to your heart

love is stronger than death
and...,
there's no such thing as fair

i need that paroxysm
that little jolt
that single spark
for me to feel again.

i hate to admit
i would sound
desperate
and needy
but i need someone.

i don't want just anyone.

but i don't know
i really need one.
desperate. needy. stupid.

a poem in three parts
i.
at first,
he is so sweet.
he swallows all of you whole
like the blueberries you bought at the side of the road
on the way to the campsite upstate that was
***** and loud and perfect.
he tells you that you are
***** and loud and perfect.
he wants to stake a tent between your legs,
to start a fire on your chest,
to hike up your canyons,
to admire the view.
ii.
he says you look better when you eat less
so you survive on sipping ink from your pen
and eating prose off of pages like
a buffet that is all-you-can-eat
as long as you keep writing it.
that winter,
you learn to subsist on newports and the words stuck in your throat.

he says, “i don’t like poems that rhyme.”
so you ****** dissonance in your sleep.
you cut the vowels from your words until they’re as jagged and harsh as his body feels.
that winter,
everything you write comes out sharp and obvious like your ribcage was.

he says your biggest problem is that you’re easy to leave.
your eyes are red like exit signs.
your spine curves like a see you later.
you frown your hellos and smile your goodbyes.
you can’t find it in you to tell him
he cannot leave where he never stayed.
iii.
at thanksgiving,
you take the train to laguardia
to meet your parents at the airport.
waiting at the baggage claim,
you watch your mother
look right through you
as she dials you on the phone.
“we don’t see you,”
she says, three steps away.
“we can’t find you.”
she is so close, you could touch her.
instead, you watch the bags go round and round on their carousel--
wishing you could ride with them.
wishing someone would claim you.

You've been dealt a hand,
as has everyone else.
Large numbers, nines and tens,
yet not a single king or queen.
Alas the winner before you is the Ace of Hearts,
your Holy Grail.
You need not a king or queen, when the ace of your heart is prominent before you, hm?

he asked to undress my mind before my body
to know my 4 am thoughts before his fingers traced my hidden skin
he touches me across oceans; drowns himself in all of my layers
whispers that he wants to visit all of the worlds inside of me
slowly, for he knows the wounds are still healing
but he kisses all of your scars
and I hardly think of you at all

To you
     who are afraid of heights
Not because you're afraid to fall
   But because you're afraid
you will not know how to get down
   Because sometimes you need to
when you've been way way up
You can keep chasing the stars
But you will need to feel the ground
Don't lose someone who makes you feel so.
Fear of heights. I have nothing to lose.

Spring rain hangs in the air
she dances beneath the cherry blossoms
a storm of petals,
                    stars falling from her eyes,
a distant clap of thunder.
TG Apr 2017
My demons came
marching like a band
into the night in chains.
Singing songs of the
promises I once made,
waving white flags
in scripted in blood
from the secrets
that was not mine
to keep.
TG Apr 2017
You rehearsed your lies
like incantations
weaving it into poetry,
reverberating iridescent
echoes upon my foolish heart.

...

"I love you"
"I want a lifetime of us"
"It was just once with her.. I promise."
