Forever in Almost

I read a poem applauding your second love
for teaching you that love still exists
after being broken, but what if your second love
is the same as your first, but not the same at all?

The same arms hold me, but they feel new.
Like when the bus is pulling away but stops
to let you on or when the light turns yellow
with just enough time for you to slip through
or when you catch the door before it closes
or when you drop something
and catch it in time.

We lost each other like missed exits that keep driving
but found ourselves and now we know all
we have to lose. Dancing with the words we
only danced around before like a spinning top,
one wrong breath could end it.
How can something so fragile not be beautiful?

To have the person who broke you be the person
to reintroduce you to 3am’s,
drives with no destination,
street hugs covered in darkness,
and brown eyes being beautiful.

But he didn’t break me. I broke
by telling myself I loved him when really,
he was the first person I wanted
to love and be loved back by
but I’ve learned that’s not always how it works.
Sometimes you miss each other
like points plotted on the same grid
but not the same spot or parallel lines
that just run side-by-side.

Because, sometimes the bus leaves,
the light turns red,
the door closes,
and you can’t
catch it in time.
Almost there,
but never doing
what it takes
to be there.

So we’ll live together forever
in what we have built and left,
in what could have been,
in what almost was,
and what a beautiful
thing that is.
Not sure how I feel about this poem yet, still thinking of images to add.

What if smells a lot like vanilla
But not like scented candle vanilla
And not like perfume vanilla
But like liquid air freshener vanilla that you’ve had in your drawer for two years and didn’t have enough left in the bottle to use the spray top so you unscrewed the lid and splashed it all over your sheets
Let it dry
Waited two days
Then invited a pretty girl over
Let her sleep in your bed
Had ***
Dreamt of forever
Took a shower
Laid back in your bed
Let her go
And then slept face down on the pillow you let her use while reading text messages about how she won’t be able to keep seeing you any more
You know, that kind of vanilla

If
If you ever find someone
Who cares for you as I did,
Do not push her away.
Selfless people are hard to find.

If  you ever find someone
Who trusts you as I did,
Do not betray her.
Trust is not so easily glued together
Like broken plates.

If you ever find someone
Who cries as many tears
As I did because of you,
Do not hurt her.
Tears quickly dry up and disappear
But scars often do not.

If you ever find someone
Who spent every moment thinking of you,
Do  not make her think you're doing the same.
Such betrayal is of the deepest,
Most painful kind.

If you ever find someone
Who loves you as much as I did,
Do not play with her heart.
Hearts are not easily mended
Hearts are not easily healed
Especially hearts that were given unreservedly.

Love...
It was designed for me.
With the lust, I mix it, and made dreams of you.
With my mind, I recreate the dream, and it was all to make you the happiest.
With my heart, I felt sins, which I only made them with you.
The more I think about you... If you only knew...

If you really know me
You should know I worry
If you really know me
You should know I care
If you really know me
You should know I'm ******
If you really know me
You should know I'm not in the mood
If you really know me
You should know I'm mad at you
Only if you know me you should know by now.

If
If I give you a promise,
will you give me an answer?
If you'll be my lover
I can be your dancer.

If I give you a thimble,
can you make me fly?
If you give me a kiss
I promise that I'll try

If I show my soul to you
please don't **** me over.
I'd rather face the wildfire
than watch the ashes smolder.

If I give you tomorrow,
will you tell me your past?
I pray you surrender
to the spell I have cast.

If I give you a promise,
will you give me an answer?
If you'll be my lover
I will be your dancer.

If I can find your shadow
can we touch the sky?
I have a little pixie dust,
I promise we can try.

Once I've shown my soul to you
please don't **** me over.
I'd rather fan the flames to life
than watch the ashes smolder.

If I give you tomorrow
keep a place for me in your past.
I can't divine the future.
Love should never wear a mask.

If I could just accept the fact
That I will never be an eagle
Like you,
Whose wings spread so widely,
And whose spirit filled with pride
For all of the things that you have accomplished.
Because who am I compared to you,
A broken-winged pigeon
Who seeks,
Who admires
Your boundless beauty and confidence,
Only to find myself
Intimidated by your presence.

If I could just accept the fact
That I could never soar as high
As you
Who reached their full potential,
And who has been given the honor
Of being one of the most brilliant beings that ever lived.
Because who am I compared to you,
A bird who can only fly
As little
As high
As my small wings could take me,
Disappointing myself
With every stumble and fall.

If I could just accept the fact,
Then maybe,
Maybe I can be just happy as you.
There's always going to be someone better than you.
(So this is actually my first poem here, and I hope to find a passion in poetry as much as you do)
I never regret the things that made me smile,
Even if they just lasted for a while.
Things like those no one can defile,
Stays in my heart and never runs out of style.

Like the moments I had with you,
They will never be forgotten, that's true.
The time you said don't go, even if you didn't mean to.
Those happy moments are because of you.

Just let me love you continuously,
I know my place and where I stand, clearly.
Just let me still be your steadfast friend,
Who'll stand by you and always defend.

Just let me care for you in a way I know.
You're one of those whom I can say no.
Just don't ask me to set you free,
Even if friends is all that we can be.

If we were courageous enough to lift the blame
After starting the spark to deal with the flame
If we were weak enough to fight for success
And strong enough to admit our failures
If we were blind enough to feel for others
Or had a perfect vision to be as kind as mothers
If we were hopeless enough to search and find
Or filled with hope and wisdom to be kind
If we walked slow enough to wait for the outcasts
Or ran fast enough to rescue those who hunger and thirst
If we were voiceless not to insult the defenseless
Or had loud voices to condemn the merciless
If we were too lazy to even manufacture a war glove
Or had super strength to truly make love
If we didn't have the knowledge to fly into space
And rather worked our fingers to the bone to change the world
If we only rejected people for who they are not
And accepted all of us for who we are, black or white,Afro or bald
If the entire human race in unity signed a peace note
The world would be by far a better place

If I could draw
I would paint you a masterpiece
with every colour of the rainbow on a never-ending canvas,
just to remind you
that there is light and colour
in every moment of everyday,
and beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

if I could sing,
I would pen you a thousand melodies
to lift your soul into the heavens
on days where it felt
like you were six feet under.

if I could run,
I would soar across this city
with cups of tea and the warmest of blankets,
to make you feel safe
on the nights you felt completely lost.

but all I can do is write.
so I will ink you some sorry word,
in the hope that you’ll understand
that I care for you,
and think that there is stardust
gleaming out of your every pore.
