We of Soul
Tanisha Jackland Jun 2018
I propose a toast
to you
a drink
from the top of your
delicate head
to the base of your
soulful feet

I found you
right in the center of the eye
the deluge of you
carried me higher clear across
the barren sky
as if we were supposed to
crash into each other

But
Only material
things get ugly aging
while we become this strange
phenomena wanton and as wild
as the naked wind upon
the thirst of our eager
chapped lips

IT
Tanisha Jackland Jun 2018
IT
"Fire cannot burn IT, Water cannot wet IT, Wind cannot dry IT, Weapons cannot shatter IT. IT is eternal, unborn, IT cannot die."
- Bhagwad Gita

IT is the real you
You conceive IT when
you sit still and calm the mind
IT is the soul
the awareness
beyond the observer
Seek and you shall find
that the IT is you
Listen to IT
For the soul speaks
softly in the language of
truth and silence
May it live on
forever

And so it is...
Shhhhhhh...

“You can either live logically or magically. It is your choice.”
~Sadhguru

You are spirit and
magic rains down
around you
like the music
that surrounds you
note after note
Life is magical.

The Beautiful Things
Tanisha Jackland Jun 2018
The beautiful things are
always written in black
The swan may she overwhelm
you with her delicate charm
is brought to you in obsidian grace
Or how about the crow
brings us the message of tomorrow
soothsayer with black wings
Black is tenderness
and camouflage
our protection
fiercely rejected by some
While others surrender to
its potency
Wherever it is you stand
with or with out it
know that black stands on its own
thru out the Universe
pulling us like gravity
commanding a deep reverence
for it
rearranging our skies
Black is good.

Ellis Crow
Tanisha Jackland May 2018
You be the death of me
shapeshifting and black winged
I gave you sustenance
and you spoke to me
with gratitude
in the cackle of a crow
you never mocked me
bring me a song
I know you'd
be the guardian
of my soul

There Once Was This Woman
Tanisha Jackland May 2018
Who was dubious
had kind eyes
and spoke sweetly
She sought after
big arrogant souls
Was a mystery
like water and
vast like the big sky in Montana
loved her curves and
Once caused a man to
trace her with his tongue
hugging her hills
and valleys
Playing
to keep
kneeling

Dark Johnny
Tanisha Jackland May 2018
He played me
like a 3-chord riff
Old Johnny boy
Kiss the girls and
told every one of them
she was the one

I needed to believe him
black Johnny
with his slick honey tongue
talking and come singing like he
was a charmed cello box
build good bridges Johnny
you never know
when you'll need them

He spoke to me in runes
casted a spell on me
with his lips
then saved my broken pieces
for last
Good night Johnny
Enchanter of the song
bring me your candy even
if I'm wrong

Everywhere
Tanisha Jackland May 2018
Io ti trovo / come se tu fossi dovunque /
in ognuno io ti vedo / io sono il seme /
tu sei il vento.

I keep finding you
as if you are everywhere
in everyone I see you
I am the seed
You are the wind
This wonderful italian guy translated this piece for me. He said it moved him so.  Dear to my heart, now.

Gone with the Wind
Tanisha Jackland May 2018
I am as predictable
as the wind
with its current
drifting me alongside its
great passage

I am in no hurry
I just got here
and plan to stay
for awhile

listening to the music
of the wind
sing so soft and sweet
as though the pain
of being unheard
was just too much

I exist here
loved and lonely
like the wind
but embodied
until it decides
to capture me again

Not Again
Tanisha Jackland May 2018
Here I am again
in the thrush of
falling apart again
I don't want to leave
my body another time
It's so cold over there
the chains heavier
and seldom unseen
everyone pretends in freedom
but all of them scared
they see
their eyes
see the horror
they feel the doom
there we are all encumbered
Please I don't want to go there again
Please
Not again
Enough said.

What is Happening?
Tanisha Jackland Apr 2018
The waters are rising
fish are finless and dying
we have toxic bodies and minds
we are killing off the only
wisdom we have left

the indigenous are endangered
the animals are game
the trees and plants have given up
kind people are kneaded out

All the things that made
us once great
How dare us sulk over
nothing
The audacity of us to bask in
glory of our false privilege
We are our own worst enemies
desperate rabid wolves
the lot of us

What's happening
is that some of us have
forgotten our propensity
for kindness
to be humane
to serve others
to love as we will
and to have mercy on them
the others

but most of all we have
made our Mother mad.
She's a pip.

Healer X
Tanisha Jackland Apr 2018
The roses aren't ripe
they still run the
sullen color of the sky

the berries are bitter still
they will turn
your mouth against you
if you are not careful

the bananas haven't
softened and sweetened
and melted on your tongue
that is how I know
there is something healing
and urgent upon the wind
which cannot be destroyed
Healing from the inside out...

Your Devotee
Tanisha Jackland Apr 2018
Have you come for me
dust light settling peach
flames in your eyes sparkling
divine like the root
of my chakra

You are stardust to me
all brilliant
promising smile
that makes you humble
a cloaked God

You feel all
warm gold dripping
sweet from your lips

Precious diamond
what friction made you
cunning as a wolf

I am your prey
soon devoured
offering my flesh
to you
Have I met God?

The Detritus Life
Tanisha Jackland Mar 2018
She had wasted her life
When womanhood
seemed so obvious
the mending of hems
and souls
came natural for her
Nightingale girl
with the big heart
who looks after you
they've taken advantage again
selling you short like
the plank that you'd walk
when you finally notice
that he's not into you anymore
and all the babies you saved
and all the makeup you wore
with all those dishes you broke
were all done in vain...

I Forget
Tanisha Jackland Mar 2018
I forgot who I was
for awhile
numbed my body
with bitter pills
vented this madness
thru my hair
the color of furtive soil
Is it futile
to reminisce
on this
the long and forgotten
distress of my obligations
Or
I am the soul
that moves me
to goose step
with you because
it's nicer and
more polite that way

I wish I was louder
so that you could
feel me coming
from miles away

I felt her coming
but I forgot what she
was coming for...

Slave Girl
Tanisha Jackland Mar 2018
I have ate them
My ancestors
Unlike the
slave girl who
died tragically
I am so sorry
for that
from the deep cuts of
their white reigned whips
still a slave girl but
sitting on
The wrong side
She think she is cunning
She think she is the only one
Poor girl
Can’t read
Past their big
empty minds
But she is grown enough
And soon all of them
that have died will have
thickened her into a mighty
Meat soup
Healing old wounds...

It's a terrible thing
to know the difference
between right and wrong
then to choose the
apparently vile thing

you could muster

rolling with the devil
like he's on your side

Water to Stone
Tanisha Jackland Feb 2018
Water is fluid, soft, and yielding. But water will wear away rock, which is rigid and cannot yield. As a rule, whatever is fluid, soft, and yielding will overcome whatever is rigid and hard. This is another paradox: what is soft is strong. *

― Quote by Lao Tzu

You touch me
from the depths
of my broken
spirit

You move me
gently to mend

what bold
alchemy is this

Turning my skin into
fine silk

I am renewed
by your fingers that
lightly tickle me into
submission

You are water
I am the stone
Where there is softness you'll find strength.

Energy Speaks Louder
Tanisha Jackland Feb 2018
You are frequency
Some are high
but many are low
what frames you
is how conscious
you choose to be
take the long way around
or stop to feel
the instance of
pure consciousness
You are soul
I felt you coming
before you got here
Your energy
proceeds you
whether you know it
or not
Vibes don't lie
If you feel icky around someone trust that...not their words.  And if you feel awesome around someone...trust that and move forward.

In Due Time
Tanisha Jackland Feb 2018
Trees are sanctuaries. Whoever knows how to speak to them, whoever knows how to listen to them, can learn the truth. They do not preach learning and precepts, they preach, undeterred by particulars, the ancient law of life. *-Herman Hesse

This willow weeps for no one

It hears the mountain's tears
riding on the backs of slow waves

This willow knows

that the sun's silence
is understood by every atom

It knows

that soon the rocks will rise up and
take arms

They will wage a war against concrete
and flesh

Soon the earth will heave a sigh of relief
and will resume feeding the willows that have
long ago stopped crying
I love willow trees and it's true, this one spoke to me. I'm simply its messenger.

Snowflakes on Your Tongue
Tanisha Jackland Feb 2018
It is good to have
open ears
how else would you
hear the sound of
your God or the Beloved
the one that
moves silently
thru all things
live gently and
walk like your feet are
your wings
A young lady with synesthesia disorder (in this case, for her, sounds have color and texture) once told me that my voice sounds like "snowflakes on the tongue". Here's a short poem I wrote about it.

Second Tongue
Tanisha Jackland Jan 2018
You lie to me
like your word
depended on it
or is it worth
your word to me
do you value
what you speak
or do you speak with
a second tongue

between us

the battle amongst us

value

that linger
on you and your

under your watchful eye
I am gilded perfection

just me and my righteousness
righting all the wrongs
while you watch
Me and the right moves

just don't take your
eyes off of me

presence in the cosmos

and naughty things
shed light on me
and I become this
perfect
little
freak

They are spying on us
from the black ether
eyes good enough to

Tanisha Jackland Jan 2018
No one has skeletons
in their closets anymore
we've disclosed too much of
our ***** bones

Now we are left with
nothing but this flesh
without the things that
make us ugly and
keep us upright

No shadows or dark secrets
to keep us awake at night
Nothing to process or to aspire to

No more dreams but the wicked
fodder of a life lived in conformity
and
on the surface
We all need to hide something and let it stay there until it's ready to be unveiled.

Obey no one

your inner most self
and walk barefoot

before modern man

diversifying arrogance
instead of his head

No one looks you

Walk forward now
and don't look back

Dodge bullets
with a smile as your
secret weapon

And laugh with
the best them

Making good as pretty
as you go...

But one day you

You Are That
Tanisha Jackland Dec 2017
What you are
is what surrounds you

Do you walk

claws behind your back

light reaching

The Possibilities
Tanisha Jackland Dec 2017
What our resolutions reveal
most of all is the cockiness
our human audacity to
think we were immortal
despite
living unsustainable
all these years
roaming the planet
eating up the indigenous
all ready endangered
like ourselves
extinct and not a clue wiser
Just ploughing down the wrong way
how we seemingly keep intact
from all of the plucking and pleading
machines as slaves
but looking closer
our delicate image
is fractured by the slightest word
or misdeed
after all that epic stupidity
we
still
learned
nothing

Silly is Love
Tanisha Jackland Dec 2017
Love is awkward
Makes you do unmindful things
like staying up past restful hours
mind racing of kisses from no one
imaginary lover dancing in your head
nothing but the wait for a
seemingly simple
phone call
pick up the phone and melt into me
you have all the time in
the world to wait for him
or to browse her pictures and texts
we will never learn from the calm or logical
just hopes from longing
suffering love in the recesses of the dark...
Love take notes.
