When You Find The Right One
Tanisha Jackland Dec 2017
Your body will let you know
there will be a slow treble
in the center of your heart
that will expand out
into your bones
and will run up and
down your spine
letting every cell know that...*
**This person is the one
Please my love, take notes...cuz it happens in the blink of an eye.

Silly is Love
Tanisha Jackland Dec 2017
Love is awkward
Makes you do unmindful things
like staying up past restful hours
mind racing of kisses from no one
imaginary lover dancing in your head
nothing but the wait for a
seemingly simple
phone call
pick up the phone and melt into me
you have all the time in
the world to wait for him
or to browse her pictures and texts
we will never learn from the calm or logical
just hopes from longing
suffering love in the recesses of the dark...
Love take notes.

the old willow
Tanisha Jackland Dec 2017
I am like an old willow
hoping you will notice me
that you'd want
to hold my embrace in yours
tree branch to flesh
compromising our nuances
like old friends
diving into each others
thought bubbles
and seeking out the lit sun
in our eyes...
who's to say that the tree
is not sentient
maybe we are not tree enough
just seed thoughts
floating along
for a place to belong
a place worth settling for...
Trees are people too.

After Life
Tanisha Jackland Dec 2017
I think about what your bones
will speak
once you have left your body
I mean the soul you
the real you
What will you leave behind
will you have left behind
your unkindness
or those things
you say
when you think
no one is listening
someone is
always listening
so be careful of what
you speak
I hear them
and the laughter they leave
and genuinely hope
it's not about me

You Again
Tanisha Jackland Dec 2017
You are some kind
of trapper
a mere shadow
I cannot grasp
but still stalking me

You've been clocking
me by the moments
ticking me in
with the favor
sugar daddy in waiting
superman subtle
you are a hunter
with sweet words
as your crumbs

I may follow you
to my sugary demise
candy killer
slow honey soup
on my tongue

I'll lick you up
while you
smell so good

red star
Tanisha Jackland Dec 2017
I wear my red star
like a good capitalist
Rock star status
check
Going to the grave
as shallow as I am
check
Just another american
leaving my carbon foot
print a mystery unbeknownst
to me and to the flat earthers
men who say they swore
Jesus went and
came already again
but I'm here to tell you
that my red star
will rock your world
and I am too old for this
so the fake people
can just kiss my
red star...

Adrift on the Tide

Tanisha Jackland Dec 2017
You play me
like an adagio
Unhurried but dissonant
You challenged me
Moved me to
the inner depths of you
I got lost
without knowing
Until I heard you
in G minor...over
and over again
Now I'm the silent breath
between your notes

Play on, maestro, play on...
Tell me, maestro,
if I could be a song
what would it be?

So Generic
Tanisha Jackland Dec 2017
Sorry, I am so
generic these days
I am not like you living

Better Left Unsaid
Tanisha Jackland Dec 2017
You have already proven
to me that you're my
drug of choice
The lull I get without you
how I hang onto your
every gesture

your scent I'm sure
you calibrated to me
since I can sense you
whenever you manage
to come around

I feel this
warmth beneath my belly
where I imagined you
touched me there
your mouth seeking the deep
crevices of my body
in the cold dank night
underneath the sin
In the heat of the covers...

The Cult of the Phoenix
Tanisha Jackland Dec 2017
They are worshippers
of new skin while
scattering their
ashes in ritual fire

The smoke
painting the sky
with their
inevitable bones

and all the pretty things
hanging from their
hips have risen
from what was broken

Now they too
have wings

Unholy Trinity
Tanisha Jackland Dec 2017
Drink up
this sacrament

For the mysteries do
not pass
on your tongue

But offered as the
three phases
of woman

And the liars
You'd know them from
how they belittle us
the men with
envious ticks

Divinity ran rancid
in their mouths
Traitors to our souls

Now it's up to you
woman reclaim what
is proper and leave the phallus
where it belongs...

No Cleavage Needed
Tanisha Jackland Nov 2017
He is double-sided
and speaks with a second tongue
There are legions of him
rising out from under stones
casting spells
to win you over
would-be plasticized trophy
He will bamboozle you
with the sweetness of his lips
He is no sir lancelot but
a shapeshifting
boogie man waiting to
kidnap you and
hang you on his wall
You have been warned.

Sickness
Tanisha Jackland Nov 2017
Who's to say
that I am extreme
I hide my quirks
in awkward smiles
and inconvenient
small talk
I am a black girl
interrupted which means
I am quite possibly magickal
but invisible to most and really
seen by very few
I guess like all of us
dying to be remembered
dying to become immortal...

Apathy and Its Passion
Tanisha Jackland Nov 2017
I am numb from
feeling so much

to believe is to
be let down at
some point

it might as well be
make believe
fairy tale kind of nonsense

It makes the
apathy feel so much better
but deep down we
all know who is
full of it

and the nonbelievers
are really candle
holding angels
longing to bless you and
kiss your feet...

The First Snowfall
Tanisha Jackland Nov 2017
The first snowfall
Makes its way
to the ground
as gentle
as silence
and it reminds me
that we are not
supposed to be here
Humans have stolen
the thunder on this Earth
and We keep rolling like
that proverbial freight train
out of order
insuring its extinction
because there is no one
at the helm anymore and
we are loud as ****.

The Cover Up
Tanisha Jackland Nov 2017
It takes a world of kindness
to cover up a heart of coal
for mine is a blackened blindness
dark enough to steal your soul

visit this depth of nothingness
don't fathom its layers of theft
for I cover up this hole of emptiness
with smiles and remnants of fret

Living each day as a fraud
if only you could see
this authenticity
ingenious words on the sly
then you'd shut up and be grateful
and go away to hide

I don't have much patience
for small talk and lies
but it takes a script
that's fraudulent
to make the stage a disguise

But please always remember
its my life and a story of just cause
And I am delighted to tell you
This poem is nothing but a fraud

Nose Bleed
Tanisha Jackland Nov 2017
The young are
not immune
to bleeding

They are not
immortal

just naive
and very short sighted
it comes with being
sucker punched by life
over and over again
until they realize
that the bleeding
doesn't last forever
and is only mildly painful

to make this point...

You say
you want
to walk the way
but never be moved
and I say
you are already
the way walking
stumbling over your
two humble yet divine feet

It is you
who will travel
this world unknowing
and it is you who
will manifest the sacred things
for each gesture there
are those of us waiting
for the next coming

You exist inspite
of the vacuum
But do not wait

You must Be
for
you are the abyss
forming itself
over and over again
fractals of light in the many
facets of eternity

How to Breathe
Tanisha Jackland Oct 2017
they say that you are a waste of breath. But I see you trying to imitate art. the art of being human. it never ran thru you. Never was your thing. the human chord. just the mean streak and those loathsome ways. i say keep striving for that brass ring on how to breathe. keep imitating what is clearly human. then join the those of us who consider breath a treasure. join the few who will dedicate their breath to another and another.

Speak the truth
with your tongue
and let the good
silence of your soul
be the guide of you

But first it will come
awkward
Take your time
spewing what
makes you mad

Show no fear and
Articulate yourself
into being
with the pure grit
of your teeth

Then bite them

Bite them hard...
Tanisha Jackland Sep 2017
Impress no one for this is the hour of authenticity
It is the hour to wake up to the fact that you are a slave
and your mentality is a slave spitting slave rhetoric
and it's a tragic narrative if you die in this mortal state

So don't make your holidays pointless make them mean
something and let the cold blood of the rationale
leave your delicate veins from the still-life that was
into something renewed and eternal...

Beyond Race
Tanisha Jackland Jul 2017
It isn't real
just a story you
keep telling
yourself as if
you haven't a clue

And it's true
we are all connected by
some kind of bonded
reality that provokes us
to feed into

weep for all the days
you've forgotten that for now
you are located between
the skin and the bones

Unseen
you are one of many like
a singular pattern in the
wavelength of God
We are One below the Sun even if you believe in None

Underneath It All (revised)
Tanisha Jackland Jul 2017
Whatever has torn up the room
has sat on your mother's
back breaking her

but you look the other way
too painful to see
what's already in your face
a lynching here a shooting there

It's not me you say
and shrug it all away
I didn't steal anybody you said
but tortured bodies wailed
underneath the crack
of your ancestor's whip
and still you reap from
the ghosts of yesterday

don't you hear them
the black lipped rage
that keeps yelling at you

but still you look the other way
and sip your latte
with a deafening smirk upon
your face as if you are not
one of us

human

This is not a plea for reparations
yet it would be a wise gesture
nor a begging for a hand out
yet it would serve you to be kinder

It may be futile to you
to look a black person in the eye
with the truth on your tongue
but if we can't save you
then maybe underneath it all
nobody could
it's never too late to be kind and give back what is due. Peace.

Dead Lullaby

Here I am again
trying to keep from sinking
but I am the dead weight

I try to pull it
out of me the black rays
feeding inside me
caged and reeling
a wounded raven

I dream of somewhere
beyond my reach
then I let the core flutter

Prayer for Healing
Tanisha Jackland Jun 2017
There is a stillness which exists
between every word and silence
Within that space of the slightest
breath may you find Love.
For it is in the house of love
which heals you.
It is in the unbroken strings of love
that is forgiveness driving us closer
together more than any burden carried in
your heart and on your back.
For every tear you shed may you enter
the soul silently to open and
let in the presence of peace to guide you.
Seek Forgiveness. Seek Service. Seek Unseen,

Sending waves of healing energy to all.
In this, lies the sacredness of what
Has ever been forgotten.

And so it is.

Conjuring Antiquity
Tanisha Jackland Jun 2017
'The Sibyl, with frenzied mouth
uttering things not to be laughed at,
unadorned and unperfumed, yet
reaches to a thousand years with her
voice by aid of the god.'  (Heraclitus, fragment 12)

She curves into touches like neurosis
beyond the threshold of insanity
breeding desire into a lovely oddity

She mends the lie in facades to
empty them into our secrecy

With a banshee's throat
she splinters time's agonies
into the likeness of what
we ordered and
brings solitude to morning's arms.

She is of Sibyls.

Bold women who once dreamt
in ambiguous shadows and
lucent prophecies.

Your death came

He knows I'm childish
He is like me in some ways

Entering the world
of blahs now

One escaping syllable
after another like you mean
to say these things
to fake yourself out
Your thoughts
are like the temporary
pages of an extravagant novel.

Are you your story?

You are the breath

this breath

and another

You know it deeply

The rhythm of you
is like no other
So
watch your thoughts

pass like the
whim of soft clouds

watch your mouth swiftly
when you speak

speak mostly kindly

mostly from the breath

your breath

this breath...
Your breath is eternal

born from Her
and as Holy as One
