The desert sky is vast
A heavy blue spanning far
Rippling with the sun’s heat

Cacti line the horizon
Like an uneven barbwire fence
As the sky turns to orange

Like a flame licking the world
Dry and thirsty for a drop of water
The sun sinks into the Earth

The ground is my home
I am nothing but the dirt
Underneath your feet

Breathe in right away
Lungs expanding with each breath
A taste of fresh air

Think, think, think
Still not a drop of ink
The page lies bare,
As does my stare
Indifferent and dull
My mind has nothing to mull
Only the wish to write,
Not a thought in sight

Your breath dissipates to wind,
Blowing cold against my bare cheek
Creating goosebumps

Frigid, I clench my jaw
Afraid to give you frostbite
With icy exhales

I love you in the wintertime,
Where the world grows as cold
As your heart

And like the rain clouds
Dewy drops fall from thy face
Puddling my heart

Labyrinthine!
Like ghosts, thoughts of you
fill the decrepit halls of my mind
