In the darkness of a long Friday night shift
Making 100 pizzas an hour
my energy drains, my mind wanders

I leave my body behind to cut the pies
and I happily flip between dimensions
memories, lives and possibilities.

3 physically grueling hour later,
I return to find my poor body exhausted
Ordered to some random task.

The REAL me responds out of my broken body
with a smart-*** quip about linear time
and temporal mechanics.

Suddenly, I hear myself!
Suddenly, I see myself!
Suddenly, blindingly, I feel a light!

Bright, all encompassing, radiant light
Like the North Star,
but undimmed and unhindered.

In all its splendour, it shines
a leaf-covered path
suddenly clear as day!

What I would love to do
is to study physics
and obtain a master's degree
in Quantum Mechanics.

Energised by naught more than this realisation
my body works effortlessly on a record long shift
while my heart sings
and my mind dances happily
and I, the true me rejoices

For finally, I have realised
and allowed myself to accept
what excites me!

I walked 1009 feet
And reached the comfort of
Your tippy toes
Soon I'll be rubbing
Your knee

Lifted on a wheelchair
while trying to stare at the toonish heads inside.
A bright light appears.
I'm hoping I can tunnel in.

But my legs won't move.
Every time I reach for the light
a large hairy arm restrains.

A smooth utterance follows.
My muffled ears and the seeping quell.
This is as close as it gets.

Fold the sheets in toward you.
A cold that won't leave the bones
keeps up.

The old brain governance was a relief
until I realized I was back where I started,
with a makeshift ash try
and an innate sense of urgency.

In the north, the rain is white,
the floor is covered with clouds,
the wind tears the skin and
the cold invades the body.

In the south, the rain is just rain,
the floor is covered with dust,
the wind blows as a breeze and
the cold kisses the body without warning.

In the north, men wear black suits,
they walk on dry cement,
they have a future since the cradle and
they are just men...

In the south, men wear suits,
they walk on wet cement,
they have a future when they dream and
they are also just men...

All over the world, the seasons are different,
the small and great feelings are different.
Even men are different! however, they're present,
making time our only distance.

Tonight you're distant like the shooting stars we used to search for,
Too far away for me to fix this, and now ignoring you is all I can do
To dull the aching in my chest that is the first side effect of you.
North Carolina never used to cross my mind before we met,
But now no matter what my every thought leads me back to you,
And yet, in my dreams I sweep you off your feet and you believe me
When I say forever.

A harsh wind howls over the mountains
But I stand tall, alone and unbowed
With my wild hair and pelts
I am the barbarian, fierce and proud

No weapon can fell me, no man can best me
For I vanquish all with my axe and my shield
Flee now before my might and wrath
To my power surrender, to my fury yield

Like the wild north wind I come
Laying low all in sight
So cower in fear, you soft ones
And flee fast into the night
A man was elected with no view on the most controversial issue.
Ignoramus within the southern states believed
This man to be a danger to their lifestyle and their
Wanted rights.
One by one, they became their own.

One fort, Sumter, became a commonplace for
Controversy. Belonging to the north, within the
Newly founded Confederate States, the fort was tossed back and forth in a game of table tennis.
A threat of war hovered above their heads, but supplies were sent.
No weapons.
No orders to attack.
Complete neutrality.

The attack came from an impatient general Beauregard,
Who ordered his men to open fire,
In a hope to force evacuation and surrender.

It worked. And all hell broke loose.

A day recedes,
I'll chase down one more night
A lamed and hobbling Spring
     tries to outrun the tide
of all the misspent months
and all this wasted time

          The northern breeze sings cold,
          it sighs through tattered topsails
          sea of questions waits.
          schools of unanswered voicemails

My footfalls share the sidewalks,
                                          steady,
sure. Still young but glimpsing old and stumbling

Walking outside
soaked lungs need some new air
I'm nervous and shaking
fold the map, don a blank stare
my days wearing on
fill 'em up with a fool's words
               I'm saltwashed, stuck and
               peeling paint off my memory
               for now.

A day's been seized--
          a metered length of life
Can't place a price on Fall
          and can't outrun the tide
of these layered seasons
as his time unwinds

          The eastern wind comes hard
          and shreds through mended mainsails
          river of answers dried
          so ask the waving cattails.

His footfalls know the sidewalks
                                        leaking
down sidestreets' asphalt tributaries

Walking around
A hitch in his slow gait
A ghost of our town
shuffles on with a fixed gaze,
his days playing out,
As he strides down the sidewalks
               his life plays a film,
               flashing bright on glazed eyeballs

And I'm southbound,
4 p.m. driving Orange Street
completely drowned--
--swore I woke up in Gimli,
                Manitoba January
                seared into my youthful memories
I'm freezerburnt
                Autumn heat, don't leave me
I'll hold your hair if you're feeling sickly,
then drive back home.
Autumn heat, don't leave me now.

...Autumn heat, don't leave me now.

When the night falls
The crystal clear diamond of the sky
Rises far over the horizon
Of the deep blue deserted sea.

The North Star who shows us the way.
As the brightest of all the stars
He glows silent on the gigantic firmament.

The eternal light of the North Star
Touches our old gray souls
Gives us the power of the
Ancient long-forgotten gods.

Far away there is still so much.
Be our vigil and take us home.

Strike the clock
family lost
at the red blood wedding
from the evil the concurs the land,
For a girl hides
but no mother cries
when her daughter is married away
trapped in their clutches to stay.
No armoured men go off to war
but only soldiers from far away.
Snow hasn't fallen
but winter is calling
Far north of the wall
                    It awake.
