my innocence met a boy

who introduced himself as the love of my life

my naivety met heartbreak

who came to teach me a valuable lesson

my soul met loss,

my least favorite friend

but i’ll be okay
Erika Castaldo Dec 2015
I sat in the back of the classroom,
staring at him flirting with the new girl,
Shameless, Absolutely Shameless.

I understood how she felt,
Utterly infatuated by this boy,
Naïve, Helplessly Naïve.

She didn’t know what he did to me,
The way he took advantage of me in the park,
Oblivious, Incredibly Oblivious.

He stood there smirking, popping his gum,
Waiting to use her for his own pleasure,
Sadistic *******.

I couldn’t help her, I couldn’t even help her,
When I tried to help myself I was laughed at,
Whispers in the hallway, ***** looks, suspension.

Please don’t hurt her the way you did me,
Please.

The pass of the time, a simple excuse that pretended to manifest an evolution, freed her conscience from the embarrassment she had felt for her own naive past-self.

He came to me with a cry of help
in his voice and his demeanor,
I felt a feeling too dreaded
Empathy
So lost on human souls that it is weakness
I listened to his tale
an accident,
a sister in need
I went with him, understanding coursing through my foolish mind
And we walked
And we waited
And we parted

Later, after I had recounted my story to others
I had learned
Scandal, lies,
a robbery
I had lost everything and more
The good deed I had committed was a lie,
a farce
I had helped him and been ravaged
My empathy and understanding
filled instead with pure rage
I had been nice
I would no longer
and if I saw him again
well, nothing…...

Unexpectedly,
she fell
one moment she was fine,
enjoying life
and the next she wasn't

Innocently, she believed that past mistakes wouldn't be repeated
she forgave those who betrayed her without hesitation
and her eyes were lively and playful

She was naive
and that is why she fell
history repeated itself
and so did her past mistakes,
those who had wronged her before, wronged her again
and her eyes were no longer lively and playful
they were guarded and careful
//why opening up is so hard\\

I hate you, parents
Yall hurt us the most when yall post to protect us
"Fight for your children!" Naw it's easier to neglect us
Tell grandma don't be afraid of me
Because my generation is reckless
We're labeled naive, wild and disrespectful
But to receive it you must first respect us
Mothers wonder why you bury strangers wearing daddy's necklace
Who thought it was good for them to want power and wealth?
Welp, you raised them like that now bury them by yourself
I was conceived to a house they already knew was broken and torn
They let me believe when I die
I'm going down in flames just to burn
I got health and mental problems
I didn't ask to be this way
But guess I'm forced to live and learn.
For a beautiful death, that's all I pray

Naive
Like flowers in a hurricane
we let sparks fly with such
atomic energy
encompassing the existence
of a connection unexpected
relentless
but for certain realities...
This truth will be the dream
in our universe
paralleled.

do you feel that when we touch?
the feeling like we're two cars on the freeway,
about to collide head-on,
going 100 miles an hour,
and we don't have our headlights on,
and we don't see the impending mess we're about to beautifully configure.
but,
we keep driving.
i feel it when you look at me,
with my favourite pair of eyes.
i feel this rush of naive mystery,
i know it's going to hurt like hell when we collide,
but i keep driving.
i do not slow.
i do not falter.
i just wait for our impact,
and for all our pieces to go flying.

Once upon a time
You found joy in simple things
It was a jar of baby carrots
Now it's two carat diamond rings

Once upon a time
Every ounce of you was hope
You always prepared for the best
Now you prepare yourself to cope

Once upon a time
That smile didn't leave your face
Now when you feel it on your lips
You press it down until it's straight

Childhood you
Was a bit naive
But now that you're grown up
You've lost the courage to believe

It's easy to be cynical
Bad things are all over, after all
We're all business, things hardly impress us
But maybe that's our downfall

So think like you did once upon a time
And don't worry about being understood
Look around, lift your eyes off the ground
And find joy in anything good

Go ahead and stay hopeful
Being let down sometimes
Is better than being hopeless
And staying down at all times

Childhood you
Was a bit naive
Or perhaps more in-tune
With what happiness means

I don't know
what made me
think I could
replace you.
Neither am I sure
why I thought
it would be a
good idea to try.
Haunted by
the memory
of how I would
embrace you.
And regretting
every second
of the day we
said goodbye.
