Help
     I'm falling
            Head over
              Oop's
                I
                    Broke
                        My heels
Falling in Love can happen suddenly and sometimes it is tough to take the plunge.

Heroes and villains seem harder to define
when somethings happen to blur the lines
The villain style of justice may appear better than no justice at all
When the system fails the victim and makes the victim feel so small
Where are the Heros when evil abounds?
Are they still around?
Who fights for truth and justice throughout the land?
Who is brave enough to take a stand?
Remember heroes often are easily disguised as ordinary people and don't stand out in a crowd
Their anonymity allows them to work behind the scenes
they effectively crush the evil villains dreams.
The Heros tirelessly fight for truth and justice and selflessly care for others in need.
They support and encourage those that the villains of this world have knocked down.
The villains can too easily be found courtesy of our television screen they often make a showing on the 6 or 10 o clock news they are promoting violence they don't care about anyone else's views.
As far as Heros go you may discover that a Heros heart is contained inside of You.
Hero or Villain?
The choice is yours
Today you could take a stand to right some societal wrong
Today you can be strong and be a Hero to a friend or loved one or a stranger in need. To them can  make a difference indeed.
Hero's Traits:
H elping
E ncouraging
R espectful
O pportunity
Perhaps these traits are within you
Be the Hero that you long to see!
Ann M Johnson Oct 2014
Hero's are not extraordinary people doing extraordinary things
Instead they are ordinary people seeming to do extraordinary things
If you asked them they would say they are ordinary people doing ordinary things, they don't view themselves as Hero's
They had the courage to rush in and help at a time of need
Have you ever rushed in to help a friend, you might be a Hero to them
Sometimes a Hero wears a uniform and sometimes not
Often times a Hero gives whatever they got
If a family is in need of food and you give to help them, you might become a Hero to them
Being a Hero does not require money, you can be a Hero by giving of your time, volunteering in your community
You could also visit a shut in, or visit at a nursing home
You might be a Hero to them
You could be a Hero already by raising a child with special needs
Hero's take many forms indeed
Hero's step in when others are in need, we can take their lead and follow their example and be a Hero too
Be a Hero, someone needs you

He was born in a stable humble and lowly, though he was the one most holy
He was the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, crown and jewels did not embrace his head, instead he was lain in a manger where animals were fed
Yet at his birth the Angels did sing and the shepherds came to worship him
A star was put in the sky as a sign to draw us nigh unto him
The savior was born, Jesus Christ the Lord, so let us come to the manger and realize what he's done for
   you and me
He's the holy one born to set us free, come one come all, rich or poor he loves us all
He wants to give us Joy, peace and love, let us draw nigh unto him and let him draw nigh unto us
Let us open our hearts and receive the Christ child and let his love be born anew in our hearts
I dedicate this poem to some of my friends on here especially, Marian, Hilda,Timothy,Elizabeth and Mike
I wish you a very Merry Christmas. I hope everyone on here has a great Holiday season. I know some of you will like the poem and some may not, thanks for reading the poem.

A man went for a walk one day. He seemed to be searching for something as he hurried about, "Just a rock covered in dirt nothing special he says while he walks away".
A little girl walking down the same path carefully inspects each rock
She examines each one and than picks up the same rock that the man
  had rejected.
She holds it in her hands lifts it up toward the sun and says," you may not look like much outside , but I have a feeling that your true worth lies within you".
She excitedly skips down the path and brings it home and proudly presents the rock to her father.
He carefully takes the rock and breaks it open and discovers the treasure that lies within, a geode that is sparkling like diamonds in the light.
In life people at times are too quick to judge according to appearances alone. They hurry through life seem to be searching for something but not taking time to discover what life has to offer us through one another. They might even perceive that another person is like dirt, and with that misconception they miss out in discovering another's true worth.
Upon closer examination they might discover that the other person has many great qualities and can become a treasured friend.
If only they would slow down and take the time to take a closer look so that they don't miss the hidden treasure that lies within.

I am experiencing some Holiday anxiety
It is not over finding the right gift
Not over making a list
Not over cards I need to write
Not over the baking I have to do
I think my holiday stress is effecting my baked goods
They burned in the oven just today
I threw them away
The biggest source of Holiday stress
Visiting family I have not seen in a long time
It just might be a test of my patience
I guess I will wait and see what tomorrow brings
Visiting Family for Thanksgiving

Hope comes in a bird's sweet song
as he soars along.
Hope comes in the rain
tapping against the window pain.
Hope comes in the breeze
gently rustling through the trees.
Hope comes in the sunrise array.
Signaling a fresh new day.
Hope is reflected in a butterfly,
full of life and floats to the sky.
Hope is heard
through an encouraging word.
Hope is shown through a friend,
with a laugh and smile that will never end.

It seems that there are not enough hours in the day to read all the wonderful poems on here, my friends. I am sorry that I get behind at times.

If I was tempted to get a big head, someone would quickly knock it down to the right size; In other words I would have a slice of humble pie.
I thought of this while getting ready for bed.

I am taking a break I shall not be gone long
I am having surgery tomorrow (February 5th)
I shall return when I feel stronger
It shall be a test for me to stay still and rest
I need to sleep and  recover so I can be with you all again
I will think of you and your poems too!

I need to take a break from Hello Poetry to get caught up with my study.

I am now swamped with homework and need to catch up.

I wish miss all of you and your wonderful poetry.
If there is a poem you don't want me to miss message me and I will add it to my list of poems to read upon my turn, I yearn to read the wonderful poems of yours my friends.

I can not live without the sun to wake me up and warm my face
I can not live without my family no one could ever take their place
I can not live without friends to guide me along the way and their mere presence brightens my day
I can not live without the moon and stars to close my day
They are my silent lullaby relaxing me for a peaceful slumber
I can not live without poetry breathing in life to my soul
I can not live without all these important things and many more
There is one thing I can live without, it is called regret because it always
  takes a negative toll
I try to live with as few regrets as possible.

I count the minutes until we can be together
You are missed my friend
  My first love
I knew it from the moment I first picked up a pen
You never judge me
You seem to always love me
You make sense out of every silly thought
In fact at times you turn the weirdest ideas
Into an inspired work of art
For these reasons and so many more
I will love always love you
I will come visit you soon
When  I get to take a study break
   Hopefully soon for sanity's sake
   Lets plan for June
   I will meet you soon
I will bring a notebook and pen

If you were a poem
I could write you easily
If you were a poem
I would not have nightmares about you
If you were a poem
I would not be sweating
If you were a poem
I would not be fretting
If you were a poem
I would not have rough draft after rough draft
piling up at my feet
If you were a poem
I could finally get some good sleep
If you were a poem
I could keep my sanity within reach
I could lie lazily at a beach, if only in my imagination
If you were a poem
The problem is that you are not a poem
If only you were a poem instead of  being an
Essay
I have had problems with my composition essay assignment for school

If this was my day job, I would have many hours to write
I would have time to ponder the right words to find the perfect rhyme
I would at times work late at night
I would dream of nouns , verbs and adjectives
I would have many poems and stories as well filling up many notebooks and computer folders
I would have more readers and faithful followers of my poems
I would have schedules and deadlines to abide by and maybe autographs to give
I would be living my dreams
It  seems that it is best after all to be content with what I have, great friends like you to share my poems with!

If you were a mountain I would climb to the top and gaze at the majestic view
If you were a lake I would swim, and relax by your shore
If you were air, I would breathe you in and be restored
If you were a song, I would gladly sing along
If you were the sky, I would be the stars to light you up
If you were mine, I would cherish you with all my heart, knowing that you feel the same

The embers are slowly burning out, the fire of faith has been growing dim. My mind is wandering toward some foolish whim.
I can hardly recognize, when the seeds of doubt , snuck in.
It is time for a spiritual awakening to begin.
My prayer, Dear Lord, is that you would ignite your fire in me .
Help me, to recognize, the plans you have for me.
Lord, ignite your fire, help me, to be a blessing to those around me.
Let your light shine, in me, may it shine brightly enough , for others to see you at work in me. It only takes but a spark and the fire can start  again.
Lord, ignite your fire.
Lord, I pray that your fire, will be anew in me, each day
I had some notes in a notebook, from back when I was depressed and doubting, and those notes were the beginnings  of this poem.
I felt that some of you might be able to relate to this poem.

I had the job interview today just a day after having a stomach flu
I know you are wondering, the big question how did I do?
I first need to thank all of you for your advice, encouragement and some prayers from some of you
Well my nerves were a bit frazzled, during the first and second interview
I also had a good word from someone, who works for my current employer
In the end it seems I must of dazzled them
I got the job for the season maybe longer
I will have lots of holiday shoppers to help
If you come down my aisle I will greet you and smile
Ann M Johnson Sep 2014
I was wondering if some of you have lost some followers all of a sudden from your list or is it just me.
I am hoping that people do not find me or my words boring.
I hate to use the word followers because to me you are so much more.
You are my mentors
You are my muses
You are my comedians (especially you Mike)
You are always a source of Inspiration
You are my friends
In case you forgot, I will tell my again, You are Awesome!

I am wondering if any of you out there , my Hello Poetry friend's would like to try out an idea of mine. It may especially appealing to those who have done collaborative poems. It is what I refer to as a Progressive poem. (some of you may have heard of progressive dinners, were you go to one person's house for appetizers, another person's house for  main course , then someone else's for dessert.) This may appeal to someone's creative pallet without calories and be challenging and fun.
We could agree on a topic to write about and  many 3 or 4 people or possibly alternate writing lines and blend it together into a beautifully creative masterpiece a beautiful blending of creative minds.
Any taker's out there on Hello Poetry to accept this Progressive Poem challenge. ( perhaps Mike Hauser or other's who have done a collaborative poem with me, or interested in doing one?) If you might consider please drop me a message on here.

I have not forgotten all of you
You are all memorable to me
I think of you with every note I take
I am reminded of you with every book I read
I think of all of you with every paper I try to write
I think of all of you, my friends so much
I miss you all so much ,that it makes it difficult to accomplish everything
because I would rather be reading and writing poetry

I'll be alone for Christmas
  You can count on that
There is snow and no mistletoe
   No presents and no tree

    Christmas eve will find me
    Eating a pint of Ben & Jerry's
    I'll be alone for Christmas
    Yes, even in my dreams

    I'll be Alone for Christmas
    There is snow, no mistletoe

    Christmas eve will find me
    Eating a pint of Ben & Jerry's
    I'll be Alone for Christmas
    Yes, even in my dreams
     Yes, even in my dreams
I do love Christmas, whether Alone or not.
Hope this is a comic relief from holiday stress.
I think I'll need to have Kemps
I can not afford Ben & Jerry's

Some days it is a struggle to get out of bed, but I'll do it anyway
Sometimes it is hard to concentrate and keep my focus, I'll do it anyway
Some days I don't feel like studying and would rather do sometime fun but I'll do it anyway
Someday I  struggle with self doubt or feel like things are not going right
I might be tempted to give up, I don't feel like overcoming another obstacle but I'll do it anyway
Some days I feel I lack the zeal the finish line of my goals seem so far away It seems tough to get back on track but I'll do it anyway

I'm becoming stronger everyday
I'm becoming a better person
I'm emerging from the cocoon that held me bound
I'm breaking free from the shell
I don't want to be like a bird in a cage
I need to be free to fly
I don't want to be held bound by anyone's opinion of me
or anyone's insecurities including my own at times
I need to be free to roam
I need to be free to recover and free to discover what I need to
I need to be free to express myself and time to reflect
Free to think
Free to feel
Free to live with a healthy dose of zeal
Free to laugh at myself and others
Free to cry when hurting
Free to smile when happy
Free to Love
Free to make my own decisions
Free to make my own mistakes and learn from them
Free to be me and accept myself for who I am
Free to change the thing that I dislike about myself
Free to grow
Free to show my feelings
Free to soar like a new Butterfly
I am becoming Butterfly Ann
This is a poem reflecting on the feelings and thoughts concerning Recovery from a Depressive disorder I hope it reflects what it is like for me and I hope others can relate too, and that together we will get the proper recognition for our recovery process. It is best to speak up instead of hiding in silence.

I miss my voice
I miss my voice so much
I would write it a letter
but would not know where to send the letter
or who I should send it to
To My Voice Care Of...........?
For those of you who missed my status update, I lost my voice, a Polyp was surgically removed from my esophagus. This posting is a result of me trying to have humor over the situation of losing my voice. A friend encouraged me to share this when she read it in a notebook that I have been carrying with me and need to communicate with people by passing them a note.

Independence  day, a day to celebrate the birth of a nation and those who fought and currently fight to keep it free.
It is something more at least to me ,it don't have to be limited to just the forth of July
We can have Independence day any day
When some one gets victory over Alcohol or drugs, it is an Independence Day
When someone breaks free from abuse, it is an Independence Day
When troops come home after war and get to be back in their loved ones arms, it is an Independence day
When the Lonely  finally make a friend, it is an Independence Day
When the Prodigal returns to a loving family after years or being away, It is an Independence Day!
When emotional chains finally break loose, it is Independence Day
May the rockets blaze across the sky, raise the banners high
It is Independence Day!!!

There are times when words seem to flow effortlessly unto paper.
At other times it seems to be quite a struggle. The ink runs low or is in short supply.
My quill seems ill, or worn and damaged.
The ink on the quill threatens to dry up altogether, then a simple truth occurs to me.
I need to renew and replenish and restore my quill by taking a dip in the ink well.
I need the ink well to fully function. I was running dry trying too ******* my own.
My quill takes a dip in the ink well .May creativity flow from the ink well and fill the quill up to the appropriate capacity.
If an extra drop of ink should occur it should be available to share with another quill in need of refreshment.
If you find a friend who is need of encouragement don’t let their ink dry up.
Instead help them take a dip in the ink well. Where together inspiring words can have an endless supply.

A poet upon his or her death " Does Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night", for they have something to share with future generations through their poetry.
Robert Frost "When faced with two roads diverged in a yellow wood he took the one less traveled by and that made all the difference."
Was William Blake laid to rest under A Poison Tree? Or was he saying that we are like  poison to our enemies? One beauty concerning poetry is that it can be left up to the interpretation of the reader. Even if it was written to mean one thing the readers can discover several possible meanings to the poem like discovering jewels each time it is read.
Perhaps lets for fun imagine" The Raven", giving the eulogy for Edgar Allan Poe, and talking about his life and the loves that inspired his poetry especially Poe's beloved" Annabel Lee" and "Lenore. "The Raven" proceeded to close his eulogy with the words " Nevermore".
Maybe when it was time for William Shakespeare to be laid to rest while dressed up in his Sunday best. His poem " Fear No More" could have been read leaving not one dry eye as many fans cried for a great poet and playwright had died. A big comfort to his fans is that his work is forevermore immortalized in print for future generations to enjoy. As Dylan Thomas best stated " And Death Shall Have No Dominion" because the poets words still live on in print to be read and enjoyed and discovered by many generations to come. The poems that a poet writes are there legacy that they leave for future generations.
Check out the classic poems referenced above: Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night by Dylan Thomas and Death Shall Have no Dominion, also by Dylan Thomas. The Road not Taken by Robert Frost. A Poison Tree by William Blake. The Raven, Annabel Lee, and Lenore, by Edgar Allen Poe. Fear No More by William Shakespeare. I had been thinking about this in memoriam idea for the last 3 to 4 years I finally got it done in time for Memorial Day. I hope you enjoy it. Please be inspired to leave a lasting poetic legacy for future generations to come.

Guns and violence you hear of almost ever day
People take drugs or meds or ***** to try to make the pain go away
People abusing those they claim to love
Children not safe at school
People not concerned about breaking rules
Politicians corrupt, out for self not us
People not caring about the greater good
People in our nation starving for food
People abusing their own children
There is a cost to all of this
Our innocence is lost

If someone tells you can not do something
Do it anyway if it is worthwhile doing
Don't limit yourself by the opinions of others
If you fall down get back up
If you fail once don't be afraid to try again
Hold your head up and wear a confident smile
Achieving your dreams starts with the first step
If you believe in yourself your already a success
Aim for the sky don't forget to fly
when reaching for your dreams they are closer
than they first appear to be
Dream wide awake and inspire others

A week from today I have a job interview
I get anxiety when having an interview
If I am not sure what to say I tend to just spew out a random answer
I worry about what to wear
I get scared when there is uncomfortable silence and fear the worst
My hands sweat and my mouth is dry
If I don't get the job I feel I might cry
I just hope that I don't make to many mistakes
I guess I will try my best and try to focus on my strengths
I have a job interview a week from today
Any interview tips from you, my friends?

I went to see my Mom with two of my brothers on thanksgiving
I gave her an early Christmas card I had made
She exclaimed when I told her I made her the card, You are a sweetie
Soon after we played cards with her Kings In The Corner
She normally has great luck with cards, but my brothers won
They seemed to be winning in a pattern
I messed it up a bit by winning once
My poor Mother exclaimed that her cards were cr*p!
I guess it was just not in the cards for her

Somewhere in the middle is the place I don’t want to be
I wonder what happened to me?  It is not like I want to repeat my awkward teen years especially those strong emotions and my bad acne
It is just that the years seemed to fly by too fast
It seems like in a blink of an eye I was 20 than 30 than 40, Oh my!!
A neighbor recently told me “Over the Hill starts at 28”, man alive I hope she’s wrong. If she’s right I’ll take a big breathe and be strong
This road of life that I travel on, speaking of roads, I don’t want to be in the middle of a road either. I once heard a comedian say,” In the middle of the road is yellow lines and dead skunks (I say, oh gross!) If I find myself in the middle of the road my friend’s, I will quickly cross.
If I am in the middle I will cope at all cost. I will live the time I have left to the fullest I can. Make the best of every opportunity and learn all I can.
I will make a bucket list in case I kick the can. I will live in the moment but still plan, plan, plan.
I will continue to let my loved ones know I love them and my friends too. To all you who are reading this I want you to know I appreciate you too! Please forgive my babbling, I recently had a birthday which made me take in account the years that have rushed by
Well I could live another fifty years, maybe even more, “they say that time fly’s when you are having fun”, I am not sure if it is true or not, but watch me as I try
Recent birthday brought this to mind

In the silence I hear him calling
   He's calling me
In the silence I hear him singing a sweet melody
through the wind and the rustling of the trees
In the silence I sense his presence
In the silence I reach for him
In the silence I confess to him
In the silence I cry out to him
   I know he comforts me
In the silence he heals me
In the silence I have peace within

In the silence I envision him dying
He died for me and you
In the silence I know he is living
He is living for you and me
In the silence I know he loves me
In the silence I know that I want to live for him
Jesus is there in the silence
He's calling to all of us in the silence
I  found this in an old folder that I wrote about 27 years ago and thought I would share it for the first time now.

I see grandpa as I look up to the sky
I can envision him as he greets Jesus eye to eye as love and joy fills the air
The Angel's sing welcome songs and the anthems reach the heavenly throngs
as Jesus and Grandpa walk along the streets of gold as they passed through the Golden gate
They stood for a moment and stared into the Crystal lake, I heard Grandpa exclaim , I can
hardly wait to tell my children about this beautiful place
They traveled along a little further and  joy and peace filled the air
He turned and saw grandma standing there, smiling from ear to ear as she said "I've been waiting to see you, here there are no tears, no sorrows, nor fears here there is only happiness, love, joy and peace eternally
I heard that up in heaven Jesus has prepared, the things that make his children happy
I am sure for grandpa  there will be many 500 card games and they will be the best ever
i wrote and read this poem for my grandpa's funeral.
I hope you like it my friends!

I read your words line by line
They are like a script in my mind
I picture the story, time after time
It plays like a movie in my mind
The effects are special at least to me
No need to adjust my Tv
I can picture the characters, like I've known them for years
I can relate to their happiness or tears or fears
I flash to another scene, I feel like I'm relaxing by the sea
I love to visit the land with the fairies, described so beautifully
If I am in a mood for comedy, I don't have to look far
I don't need a ticket to the show
I know just where to go
I look at my computer screen
All sorts of wonders appear courtesy of my friends here on Hello Poetry
Let the Movies roll, the kind that touches my soul
I thought of the basic ideas for this poem when watching the Academy Awards.

It's  Friday the 13th (9-13-13) I think to myself this might not be good 13 written twice.
I start to imagine what all could go wrong.
I might fall and break a mirror, perhaps bring 13 years of bad luck or more.
The black cat that passes my path might be a panther, my heart starts to beat faster.
If I step on the crack in the sidewalk, it might get bigger and swallow me in it's depths.
I imagine some more ridiculous things, Freddy and Jason might have another Brawl in my closet and crash through my wall.
I have a sense of dread, as I remember scenes from the Final Destination Movies.
I than rise out of bed and recall that I am not superstitious after all!
This is not quite a poem tried to have some fun with it.
I hope you like it.
I am just curious what is your favorite scary movie?  Feel free to share it in the comments.
I wish you a good Friday the 13th.

dancing
expressing of ones self  with another
accepting oneself and accepting others
caring expressed in many ways.

It's the little things that mean so much
A kind word
A gentle touch
A hug
A smile
A laugh
Sharing of thoughts together
singing
dancing
expressing of one's self  with another
accepting oneself and also accepting others
caring that is expressed in many ways.

It's the little things
we often take for granted
as we go about our busy day thinking that
I will talk to them tomorrow instead of taking the time today
We are not guaranteed tomorrow
seize the present  moment today
Once time is gone, it can be recaptured
It is like sand quickly slipping through our hands

The little things that are so precious
like blessings from above
Cherish time with loved ones
before time does slip away
They might not be here tomorrow
but you have today

Those memories are very precious
kept like an image in a locket
held close to our hearts
The love of those closest to us
is likened to a light on a dark and lonely day

It's the little things that are so precious and priceless
which money can never buy
We may not have tomorrow, so we can try to make the most
out of today
I recently lost a friend that was so dear. My sister's mother-in-law.  Who I did some respite care for before she went to the nursing home. She was like family to me. Her funeral was on Christmas Eve eve.

I want to stay inside were it is warm
The subzero temperatures can harm
I don't mean to cause an alarm
The extreme cold has given new meaning to a brain freeze
I don't like Jack Frost nipping at my nose or any other body parts
I don't see the effects of Global Warming at least not right now
I know I will have to face the cold all to soon
I have to work tomorrow
I guess that some people go to shop, no matter the weather
It will be a case of mind over matter
To face the cold and be bold and dress warm and press on

I go throughout my day
longing for some sleep
I look forward to seeing you again
After the moon rises
I eagerly get ready to sleep
Because
I will see you in my dreams

The dream time seems at a slower pace
As I go into my happy place
I once again see your smiling face
For a moment everything seems like it used to be
Because
I see you in my dreams

The sun rises again
I can hardly wait to see you
my family and friends
My love for you never ends
Can see the love in my sleep filled eyes
Is it wider than the sky
as I meet you once again
Because
I meet you in my dreams

I long for even just one hour more
to spend with you I implore
wait for me after a busy day
I pray after I look at the moon
That I will see you soon
as I once more close my eyes
No more tears sting my eyes
because now is the time that
I will see you in my dreams
This is dedicated to all my friends and family, present and past.
I sometimes dream about the loved ones that I have lost, and also the ones near to me presently.

Just take a moment to tell your Loved ones you care
Just take a moment to smell a flower
Just take a moment to call a friend to share
Just take a moment to live with purpose
Just take a moment to smile at someone to brighten their day
Just take a moment to dream
Just take a chance
Just do a silly dance
Just take a moment to relax
Just take a moment to live because life is precious and at times too short
