My vine bends low with purple grapes
A bountiful harvest so fine
Clusters so large - flavor so sweet
Stems from daily growth divine

An ancient wall stands high and long
With stones added one by one
Erected not in rush or haste
But with daily growth was done

The canyons deep, rugged and steep
Carved by rivers - rapid or slow
Their rugged walls truly attest
To the strength of the daily flow

I look about, and glean this truth
From the things I hear and see
Listen close - I’ll share it with you
Daily growth is prosperity

This poem started with the concept of "consistency", but not a lot rhymes with that, so it just wasn't working out. I've always been amazed at how much can be accomplished by taking consistent action each day.

When I look around my garden I see this truth also. I never see my peaches or grapes or tomatoes grow in one day - because each day's growth is so small. But over a season, this amounts to hundreds and hundreds of pounds of bountiful fruit for my family!

Faith in Daily Growth allows me to take on projects that are many years long - knowing that the consistent building will add up to monumental results.

Chests full of fabrics,

silk, velvet, lace: beautiful –

like a robber's den.
“Crusoe's Daughter” (1985, Jane Gardam)

Collection "Appearances"
I see and feel in pure delight
My end result - in vision now
My vision draws me on and on
No need for force - I just allow

I love the strength and constancy
That vision gives me day and night
A hundred times more powerful
Than will-power (its power is slight)

No compulsion - no discipline
Can fill me with this real desire
But vision can - it fills with strength
My will is shaped - with vision’s fire

This is a quick rendition of an extremely powerful idea. You will be more successful and prosperous if you are PULLED by Vision, rather than PUSHED by Will-Power.

Vision is hundreds of times more powerful than will power.

You can do better when you use VISION.

The parks are now empty of all but the trees.
The rot in the woodwork has made itself clear:
the virus reveals a more wicked disease.

If we watch each other with growing unease,
more sinister shadows may draw themselves near.
The parks are now empty of all but the trees.

The nurses and doctors make no guarantees;
their furrowed brows are not at all insincere.
But the virus reveals a more wicked disease.

While some may not fret at a cough or a sneeze,
our day-to-day life shows a mask more austere:
the parks are now empty of all but the trees.

The wealthy can shelter on yachts overseas,
far-flung from the whims of our mad racketeer,
for he, too, was borne of this wicked disease.

But Justice may not brook the fraud she now sees,
her blindfold being repurposed as protective gear.
The parks are now empty of all but the trees,
and the virus reveals a more wicked disease.
Why do I smile? T'aint no mystery
Wanna have a good medical history

Doctor tells me smiling is great
Helps them blood cells circulate

Great for the skin
Great for the ticker
Smiling will get you
In better shape quicker

Feels so healthy, feels so sweet
Smiling just makes my face complete

It builds my strength and appetite
And makes my toenails feel just right

Keeps me youthful, keeps me light
Makes people wonder
‘Bout me in the night

Smiling helps me get along
And keeps all my
Relationships strong

Beats bein' frowny, Beats bein' lazy
Why do I smile? Maybe I'm crazy!!

I started out with a different version of this poem.  Then I was out working in my yard and I suddenly thought about an old poem I had on my wall as a teenager.  This poem was called "Why Do I Run?" and I loved it and memorized it.

For many decades now I've loved running.  The poem was written by Ed Cunningham, and I give him full credit for the initial idea and style.  I've changed it up and added a lot, of course.  I still love running and I still love smiling - read it to find out Why I Smile!

The Dragon speaks
of himself truly;
Unmasked and undisguised,
                                              in his own voice
of his vices, his schemes, and his doctrines
to lead astray the elect — if that is possible —

Feeding them bread laced
with leaven, the rot of wealth
and power of one’s will to believe;
With mighty signs in riches
                                             and magic.

But failure comes often and death slowly
— for Love is patient unto repentance —
but inevitably and unattributably:
for death and failures are but the dead’s faith
lacking and false,
which is nothing but the truth.

My wants are many,
my desires - endless;
yet my needs are few.

Of that which I have,
I take what I need;

of that which remains,
are portions for you.
Wealth can be a great blessing if we choose to spread good cheer and pay it forward by redistributing it among those who are truly in need.

I remember this day pretty well.
I remember this was the day that I knew you were the best decision of my life.
That we did it.
That you were mine and I was yours.
I remember every time I kissed you felt especially magical that night.
I remember you waltzing out of the bathroom.
I remember I felt invincible.
Like anything could happen and nothing could break us.
Like we were flying through galaxies at the speed of light,
but time was still.
Your eyes, forever the perfect color.
Your laugh, forever my favorite memory. Chicken-chicken a hilarious late night.
Dancing in the kitchen to no music.
Walking down the street in the darkness.
Falling off scooters.
Riding one two many on one.
Telling me I have the body of a Goddess.
Making love all day, only to cuddle in between. No food needed. Just love. All day. Every day.

I’m sorry if I ruined it. But all I want Is so have it back.
Dennis Allen, I love you with my whole heart. I want this to work. You’re love, your cricket, your cielo.

They watch my lavish fall
Hungrily
Lips gnashing together
Grinding teeth in anticipation
Its the only sound I hear
As I slip through the abyss

I blame them
partly
With their eyes scanning upwards
Fixated on the throne
Waiting for the day
They’ll look down on the rest of us

Now today has arrived
And they marvel in what I’ve become
What I've lost
Who am I now
Surely not this creature
Cracked mask on a sunken ship

Blood streams from my temples
Tormenting thoughts cannot be contained
In the mere encompass of my mind
They hug the curve of my cheekbones
And slip on my lower lip

Inviting me to speak them
Inviting me to scream them

All while the parasite keeps digging
Tunnelling deeper and deeper
Up the underbelly of my wrist

Poor people have different perception than rich people

A big understanding of value of things
We are affected by the cost of things

Rich people pay for cable TV
HBO
TIVO
Etc.
Watch only three channels a couple times a week

Have pools maintained year-round so it can be swam in twice
Laid next to bikini-clad Barbies on the handful of days their social calendar falls empty
With a temperature range of 68°-72°F
Bragged about in casual conversations just enough
So that every ear in a five-mile radius knows the cute Puerto Rican pool boys name

A mistake to them nothing more than an apology with a price tag attached
No problem is too big to bribe away

But less privileged folk know all too well how cause and effect work
Because we face the consequences of our actions
Big
Small

We go to libraries for entertainment

We do not cook more than we can eat
Because groceries cost too much money to waste

Wealth does not necessarily make you an ignorant or bad person
I think poverty does help make you a more conscientious person
Rich people have big TVs
Poor people have big libraries
