Creativity
Shaded Lamp Sep 2014
Is it the ship on the ocean
Or the swelling of the seas
The sparkling constellations
Or the swirling galaxies

Back to the ship and the captain
The charts rolled out for her
There, there lays creativity
Time to lower the anchor

For creativity is not points A or B
it is the process of getting there.
Easier if you own the right map
Possible for any that dare to dare.

Shaded Lamp Sep 2014
Our labyrinthine of language
simultaneously dividing - unifying.
Able of conjuring mellifluous daydreams
halcyon memories and dulcet tones.
Remarkably flexible in creative hands
yet inefficient, insignificant compared to touch.
Blooming equally as well in light and shade.
Every rose bush has it thorns.
Beware to remove them before offering a bouquet
as no one likes a *****.

Good versus Evil
Shaded Lamp Sep 2014
Hard to swallow
Harder to digest
This ****** Biblical
****** contest.
In the blue corner
God and his beard
In the red corner
The beast most feared

Let's count the death toll as delivered by the "Good Book"

Good aka God

Two million, four hundred and seventy six thousand,
six hundred and thirty three

(plus the incalculable deaths caused by mass floods and plague etc.)

versus

Evil aka Satan

Ten

(all ten in cooperation with/ at the order of God)

Who should you run to?
From who should you flee?
Is reading these words
a punishable act of blasphemy?
If so, strike me down now
before I kick start a revolt.
Or please show me sign, by...
lighting my HP lightning bolt!

Magic (part 1)
Shaded Lamp Sep 2014
Elaborate and planned to precision
For Jane it was an easy decision
Of how to off load her misery
And how to correct her history
How to finally balance the books
After so many adulterous *****
She moved from Renfrew, Ontario
Planning in detail his death blow
How to publicly punish both of them
mischieviously causing much mayhem
So she diligently trained as a silent magician
Loathing to obsession but a fleeting transition
-----------
Weeks and months past
Feeding her ambition
She mastered her craft
as a vengeful tactician

Then out to the streets
wowing the crowds
Under clear blue skies
and the rain clouds

The year marched on,
months got warmer.
Her cold heart iced over
as a performer
of remarkable street illusion
a brand new /old skool fusion
cell phone appearing in a sealed drink
swords through heads that didn't blink.
.
~~
.
Her act was ready
utterly convincing
soon those *******
shall be wincing...

The Beach
Shaded Lamp Sep 2014
Some sparkle, others don't
grains of sand on the beach.
Some coarse, the rest smooth
few close, most out of reach.
All laid down to lifes cycle
worn a little more with each relentless tide.
Formed, broken or evolving?
From "Big bang" to this beach, a cosmic ride.
Grain of sand poem for Mr. Cole.

Thunder rumbles in the distance
Unforgiving bellowed commands
Ravens tapping at the windows
Notice the final hour glass sands
Imposter that I am on this earth
No more the sweet magic of life
Gone all sense of tranquillity
Lift me pale rider/ morbid midwife
Erase me from this paradigm
Anasthetic lurks in the chalice of freedom
Vaniloquence surely ends forthwith
Enter the consequence of my final season
Such a tender caress the hand of death.
Forgive me for I have sinned
Anthrophobia suddenly reversed
Love's contract begins to rescind
L**amenting serves no purpose here

Big Fish in the Desert
Shaded Lamp Sep 2014
Over night busses infused with the smell of *** and popcorn
Bright eyed, happy kids with grubby faces no tears in sight
Dusty chaotic little towns fully charged with life
A chance meeting with a wild character
Offers of an experience we couldn't refuse
We paid up
Loaded up
And sped off
Into the velvet of the night
Headlights and darkness wrestling in the dust
Then the dead of the desert
Nothing

Everything
Night skies bursting with stars
Midnight picnics
Cheap box wine, sandwiches and chocolate
Chasing enormous moons
Morning hangovers
Magnified by the stark sun
Fluid shadows cast
Where waves once crashed
But now
A barren emptiness
Holding so many secrets
Looking very closely
Oh, we did look closely
Evidence of ancient aquatic life
Chalk like ghosts set in the sand
Appearing only as the wind allows
Whale bones and rare blackened sharks teeth
There in the most arid place on earth
The Atacama desert Peru
Three days and nights we were out there hunting
Amongst the bashful bones of her prey
Hunting the formidable, elusive and extinct
M E G A L O D O N
Apex predator of the oceans
There in that parched sand
Clear signs of her hunting
But she remained unseen
Too modest to bare her beauty to this martian land
Waiting for the seas to rise
Maybe not for too much longer
Ten years ago and still I yearn to return

The Magician
Shaded Lamp Aug 2014
for Mr.Cole's "Magic" assignment

The Magician

Moments of wonder
performed with theatrical pazaz
A prolonged instance of dumbstruck amazement
---
A slight of hand
or a glittery distracting explosion
creating a captivated audience screaming for *More!

More!

More!

Fool us again

Test our I.Qs

See if we're sane

---
But to perform...
---
I need more money the magician boldly insists
Our hands ****** into our pockets, to our wrists
---
But wait...
Silence...
Then a collective gasp
There on the table under lock and clasp
---
All of our wallets
Plain to see
And the future money of each baby
---
Did we clap?
Oh, how we heartily clapped
And cheered and laughed like we were handicapped
---
Then the show stopped
But we still clapped, stamping our feet
As the Magician strode off stage back to 10 Downing Street

*TA DAAA!
For Mr Cole

Freedom -------(For-Mr.Cole)
Shaded Lamp Aug 2014
Freedom?
Free from *******?
Hypocritical beings we all are
striving for freedom
whilst robbing it from others.
Chanting our version
Dismissing others interpretation
Freedom?
Free from *******?
The ******* we happily vote for
again and again and again
The tyranny of armed law enforcement
trained only to obey
to make you obey
Freedom?
This bubble of life is a prison in space
just waiting to pop!
Those with the power are holding a needle
to our bubble's surface...
threatening
forever threatening.
Freedom?
Freedom is a dark place six feet down
hidden from most laws...
but not all.

Our hands brushed slowly

just a bit too slowly

for it to be a mistake.

And our eyes met, focused

I swear I saw your soul

and I dived into that lake.

We were dripping wet in love

soaked through to the skin

or tell me was it just fake?

Your wit, your soul shimmered

so beautiful and poisonous

a silver tinged mercury lake.

The Hangover (Full version)
Shaded Lamp Aug 2014
Up on a feathered duvet a man conceding defeat
To the Sunday that had just begun
Reeking of last night’s sweat, smoke and self-deceit
Threads of reality so rapidly un-spun

All that he promised himself to accomplish this day
All that stuff to be tossed in the bin
Procrastination rearranges plans or lets them decay
And all because of his love for gin

Amnesia of last night’s antics plants the seeds of guilt
Shame shall be his shadow today
Enter a recurring thought... a sword driven to its hilt
Piercing pain added to his dismay

Rusted cogs of cognition screeched slowly into action
"A cure" he grumbled "A cure"
Wearily off the bed searching for medicinal satisfaction
To make last night less obscure

The stark bright light of the bathroom fried his vision
But as his senses normalized
He stared in the mirror shocked, BANG! In a collision
Mouth agape and paralyzed

Finger painted on his forehead, with what must be blood
G    U    I    L    T   Y
From down stairs somewhere
A woman's laugh
Mocking
Fear took its grip quick

A sword driven to its hilt

Part 2 of 6
a sword driven to its hilt

Arctic chills froze his spine
Pick axes hacked his mind
Tongue pickled in brine
Suffocated and confined
Heart beat pounding
Breathing short and quick
Terror was abounding
Throat swallowing a brick

Staring at his reflection . . . G U I L T Y
Unable move any limb
Even for his protection
Return of memory grim . . . a sword driven to its hilt

Back to the bed room to search for his phone
To make contact with the real world
From down stairs came that exact same laugh
Every hair on his body tightly curled
The phone was nowhere to be found upstairs
Again that tormenting laughter
He called out "Who is it?" but only silence replied
Then that laugh again soon after
"WHO ARE YOU?!" he demanded to know
Arming himself with a cricket bat
Tentatively descending the sweeping staircase
Noticing the post on the door mat
The newspaper informed him it was Monday
Confused, frightened he ran outside
A burnt pile of his clothes lay in front of his door
He yelled but only the laughter replied

Then through the dining room bay-window
Sitting at the table as if a patient guest
A gruesome wide eyed greying corpse of a man
A sword driven in his head and out his breast

In the dead man’s hand a glowing phone
The source of the tormenting laugh
Not thinking, our man rushed in to take it
The phone flashed "maintenance staff"

Every sense heightened
Sickened and frightened
Feeling he was being observed
Part of a wicked game
Driving him insane
But so far he had been preserved
As he answered the phone
He knew he was not alone
"Hello sir... I hope I haven't disturbed"

Saturday Night

The late afternoon sun draped its golden satin light
To the house-staff, Giles (our man) seemed uptight
The butler Zamira dutifully stirring his drink right

The sun dipped behind the poplar trees standing straight
He orders "A Churchill  martini" trying not to sound irate
Giles watched her stirring, stirring as in a hypnotic state

Zamira presented a chilled, frosted Riedel martini glass to him
brimming to the top with Gilpins Westmorland extra dry gin
The sun slowly sank behind trees as the drink loosened his limbs
"You may both leave, till Tuesday" He said to Zamira and her twin
Liliana (the cook) and the butler were often dismissed at his whim
They sped off in their green MG, off to the Slaughtered lamb inn

Giles raised his glass to the bobbing full hunters moon
Waiting was now over, the others would be here soon
First a pinch of Peruvian sniffed from a little silver spoon

This day had been prepared in detail for nearly a year
One final act of courage and tenacity he must engineer
All hushed except the sound of large cars drawing near

Four black Jaguars and a white refrigerated van

Crunched over the gravel drive towards (our man)

Giles Bradshaw-Behran stood still.

It had began.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Part 4 of 6

three years earlier

The Gallows and Noose

"This, THIS! I'm so tired of all THIS!"
Blurted Giles as Zamira dressed his wrists
Pathetic! (She thought) A dismal attempt
Then left the room concealing contempt
Giles just stared at the

drip

drip

drip

dripping of the morphine
Candle light danced on the walls
The demons sank back into the shadows
Giles returned to the womb
Basking in weightless warmth
Comfortably apathetic
Numb

The drudgery of the next day unfurled
As Giles accepted defeat around noon
Something had to be done about life
That something had better happen soon

He brunched in his office
and so began his search
All that day
and night
that week
That month

Deeper into the cavernous "dark web"
seeking any answer to end his despair
but every search became a cul-de-sac
No doors opened for this millionaire
No doors would open
All remained firmly locked
Sitting in his office chair
Feverishly typing as he rocked
He rocked as he typed
He swivelled as he clicked
Searching for something
That he was less able to predict

But that something found him
And sent him an invitation
Explaining that they had been watching
Seeing his frustration
Understanding his world view
May he could understand theirs
But before he were to be accepted
He must climb down the seven stairs
He
      Must
                Climb
                           Down
                                     The
                                           Seven
                                                      Stairs
Distant from the blinding light
Cast yourself from the hallows
Embrace darkness embrace night
Take the Noose and the Gallows.

The mouse pointer hovered
over options "Yes" and "No"
His heart beat quickened
But then came the red glow
of two laser beams from directly behind
circling the yes option
From past the windows' opened blind
"Yes" and the two red dots disappeared
The wheels were put in motion
His future was now commandeered
A force that seemed greater than him
Changed the rules and took control
Embers deep inside of him flickered
Re-igniting the coals of his dark soul

The seven steps awaited him...
What ever could they be?

The Seven Steps of The Thuggee

Giles sat statue still in his office
Unsure whether or not he should move
Like a hunted deer in the woods
Waiting for chances of survival to improve

And yet though he were vulnerable
Life coursed through every artery and vein
The lost keystone of his arched spirit
The panacea for tedious boredom and pain

DING! ****! The doorbell rang
"Zamira, who is it? Can you please see?"
Footsteps approached the front entrance
Giles felt instinctively "fight or flee"

He sat with silence looming over him
For what seemed like an eternity
"****** ancient bell!" he shouted
"This whole house repels modernity!"

Down stairs
At the entrance
The Cuban butler stared out into the night
Looking for a sign
Looking for who...
Who had left the parcel she now clutched tight

No one
Nothing
But for the song of a lonely nightingale
She hurried
To the office
Where she found her employer looking pale

Zamira explained what had happened
And handed him the black wrapped box
"Would you like me to open it Sir?"
"No! I would like... a chartreuse on the rocks"

She left to attend to his request

For the attention of Mr. G. Bradshaw-Behram
Soon after the two laser beams were on the wrapping
Inside the box was a detailed program
A history of the Thuggee cult and a Thuggee king

The Thuggee King called BEHRAM!
Behram, BEHRAM! His late mother’s family name
A Thuggee cult King relative?
With over 900 hundred murders to that man’s claim

900 strangled victims
To please Goddess Kali
Every drop of blood for her
So humanity can be free

Zamira returned with his drink
Giles had never needed one so much
The following weeks more instruction came

Weeks just turned to months
Months quickly turned to years
Six of the secret steps complete
So many grotesque souvenirs

All leading to this moment
On his lawn under the hunters moon
The waiting was now over
The others would be here very soon
First a pinch of Peruvian
Sniffed from his pretty little silver spoon
Adjusting his cummerbund
That soon would erase two souls fortune

Four black Jaguars and a refrigerated van
Crunched over the gravel drive to our man
Giles stood still and smiled, for it had began

Each of the six women and the six men
Were concealed with hoods and veils
But Giles' face was not hidden from them
Now that he controls the final inhales

Deep in the candle light of the wine cellar
Which had been prepared with plastic sheets and tape
A skirt of dismembered arms on an altar
A grim garland of forty eight human skulls, mouths agape

But fifty skulls are required
According to the ancient text
Two more to soon be provided
Giles planned to do that next

"Bring the two travellers to me" demanded Giles
"Let me send them on their final way"
Eight of the group left and within minutes returned
With four bound, hooded for him to slay.

Giles felt suddenly unable to function
"This was not meant to be!"
"The others witnessed the abduction, Sir"
"They...will not please Kali"

"Stand those women over there
Tie them back to back
Make sure your knots are fixed
Offer them no slack!"

The silk cummerbund slid
Effortlessly off his waist
Weighted near the middle
To offer death less haste
The first of the male offerings
Only kicked for 30 seconds
the world stopped moving when
the other felt the silk band

The back to back females started spinning
Their hoods removed and ******* gone
Giles did not look up to see who he knew
Focused solely on continuing strangulation

This time the Thuggee's had another view
Zamira and Liliana in a blurring spin
Black of space and ocean of deep blue
Zamira angered, Liliana peaceful grin

All but their arms becoming one
Morphing seamlessly into each other
The (previously twin) sisters had become
The universe's all powerful mother

          K A L I...

Final part

Nothing escapes the all-consuming march of time!

As KALI consumed time and space
Her dimensions grew and grew
Her skin darkened to deep space black
From unfathomable ocean blue
Rivers of obsidian flowed as her wild hair
Untamed, magnificent, streaming
Three blood red eyes past, present, future
Decided who needed redeeming
Four arms, three of which were grasping
A sword, a spear, a bowl
The fourth grabbed a Thuggee's head
Sword decapitated the soul
A crimson red snake of a tongue lashed
Out for every drop of blood
Then the sword slashed every throat there
Her tongue lapped up the flood
KALI'S gaze finally cast upon terrified Giles
Evaporating his body with fire
His conscience was that remained in that dimension
His conscience changed KALI'S desire
Frightful fury morphed in to motherly compassion
Her skin back from black to blue
Spewing out rearranged history, time and space
No other being could construe
But a mother must teach her children lessons
So she left Giles not without guilt
A ****** message painted on his forehead
And a sword driven to its hilt

*THE END!
I know, ****** long and therefor wont be read by many but I just thought it should be posted as one document.

Our wedding was a waste of everybody's time
Though back then it did not seem so
We playfully argued about the choice of wine
Now neither of us can drink Bordeaux
The band that played Bittersweet Symphony
Should have erased sweet from the chorus
The wedding poetry was just wasted on me
And the waste of good thesaurus
But your choice of favors...
The sugared almonds
were simply
out of this world!
Ah well, such a long time ago.
I still hate sugared almonds

As Giles accepted defeat around noon
Something had to be done about life
That something had better happen soon

He brunched in his office
and so began his search
All that day
and night
that week
That month

Deeper into the cavernous "dark web"
seeking any answer to end his despair
but every search became a cul-de-sac
No doors opened for this millionaire
No doors would open
All remained firmly locked
Sitting in his office chair
Feverishly typing as he rocked
He rocked as he typed
He swiveled as he clicked
Searching for something
That he was less able to predict

But that something found him
And sent him an invitation
Explaining that they had been watching
Seeing his frustration
Understanding his world view
May he could understand theirs
But before he were to be accepted
He must climb down the seven stairs

He
      Must
                Climb
                           Down
                                     The
                                           Seven
                                                      Stairs
Distant from the blinding light
Cast yourself from the hallows
Embrace darkness embrace night
Take the Noose and the Gallows.

The mouse pointer hovered
over options "Yes" and "No"
His heart beat quickened
But then came the red glow
of two laser beams from directly behind
circling the yes option
From past the windows' opened blind
"Yes" and the two red dots disappeared
The wheels were put in motion
His future was now commandeered
A force that seemed greater than him
Changed the rules and took control
Embers deep inside of him flickered
Re-igniting the coals of his dark soul

The seven steps awaited him...
What ever could they be?
Final installment in two days, I know, I know too long to wait! ;)

The Hangover #3
Shaded Lamp Aug 2014
part 3 of 5

Saturday Night*

The Hunters Moon

The late afternoon sun
draped its golden satin light
To the house-staff, Giles
(our man) seemed uptight
The butler Zamira dutifully
stirring his drink right

The sun dipped behind
the poplar trees standing straight
He orders "A Churchill martini"
trying not to sound irate
Giles watched her stirring
stirring as in a hypnotic state

Zamira presented a chilled
frosted riedel martini glass to him
brimming to the top with
Gilpins Westmorland extra dry gin
The sun slowly sank behind trees
as the drink loosened each limb
"You may both leave, till Tuesday"
He said to Zamira and her twin
Liliana (the cook) and the butler
were often dismissed at his whim
They sped off in their green MG
off to the Slaughtered lamb inn

Giles raised his glass
to the bobbing full hunters moon
Waiting was now over
the others would be here soon
First a pinch of Peruvian
sniffed from a little silver spoon

This night had been planned
in detail for almost a year
One final act of courage
and tenacity he must engineer
All hushed...but for the sound
of large cars drawing near

Four black Jaguars and a white refrigerated van

Crunched over the gravel drive towards (our man)

Giles Bradshaw-Behram stood still.

It had began.
O.k, so I finally have a direction

She sits there by the cash machine
with her coffee cup of coins
Punctured skin displayed
Braille spelling
"I need to take away the pain"
She is sat where I sat
Not exactly there
But... well
That was long ago
The haze of the night... what is my card number?
Third attempt failed
The machine takes the card
The bank takes everything
It is a long walk home
To a warm home
In cold rain

The Hangover #2
Shaded Lamp Aug 2014
part 2 of 5

*a sword driven to its hilt

Arctic chills froze his spine
Pick axes hacked his mind
Tongue pickled in brine
Suffocated and confined
Heart beat pounding
Breathing short and quick
Terror was abounding
Throat swallowing a brick

Staring at his reflection . . . G U I L T Y
Unable move any limb
Even for his protection
Return of memory grim . . . a sword driven to its hilt

Back to the bed room to search for his phone
To make contact with the real world
From down stairs came that exact same laugh
Every hair on his body tightly curled
The phone was no where to be found upstairs
Again that tormenting laughter
He called out "Who is it?" but only silence replied
Then that laugh again soon after
"WHO ARE YOU?!" he demanded to know
Arming himself with a cricket bat
Tentatively descending the sweeping staircase
Noticing the post on the door mat
The newspaper informed him it was Monday
Confused, frightened he ran outside
A burnt pile of his clothes lay in front of his door
He yelled but only the laughter replied

Then through the dining room bay-window
Sitting at the table as if a patient guest
A gruesome wide eyed graying corpse of a man
A sword driven in his head and out his breast

In the dead mans hand a glowing phone
The source of the tormenting laugh
Not thinking, our man rushed in to take it
The phone flashed "maintenance staff"

Every sense heightened
Sickened and frightened
Feeling he was being observed
Part of a wicked game
Driving him insane
But so far he had been preserved
As he answered the phone
He knew he was not alone
"Hello sir, I hope I haven't disturbed"
I still have no idea where this is taking its self.  The next thrilling installment served up tomorrow.

The Hangover #1
Shaded Lamp Aug 2014
part 1 of 5

Up on a feathered duvet a man conceding defeat
To the Sunday that had just begun
Reeking of last nights sweat, smoke and self deceit
Threads of reality so rapidly un-spun
All that he promised himself to accomplish this day
All that stuff to be tossed in the bin
Procrastination rearranges plans or lets them decay
And all because of his love for gin
Amnesia of last nights antics plants the seeds of guilt
Shame shall be his shadow today
Enter a recurring thought... *a sword driven to its hilt

Piercing pain added to his dismay
Rusted cogs of cognition screeched slowly into action
"A cure" he grumbled "A cure"
Wearily off the bed searching for medicinal satisfaction
To make last night less obscure
The stark bright light of the bathroom fried his vision
But as his senses normalized
He stared in the mirror shocked, BANG! in a collision
Mouth agape and paralyzed
Finger painted on his forehead, with what must be blood
G    U    I    L    T   Y
From down stairs somewhere
A woman's laugh
Mocking
Fear took its grip quick
*a sword driven to its hilt
I've no idea where this is heading, but this is the first of a 5 part.
Suggestions are as always greatly appreciated.

When I die
Shaded Lamp Aug 2014
All that will remain is bones and rotting meat
Toss it in a cheap wicker box for worms to eat
Topped just with wild flowers and no cement
Plant a weeping willow instead of a monument
It can do the weeping, please don't you cry
There is a chance that I'll be busy when I die
For if I am wrong and there is life after this
I have plans with whom I'll dine and reminisce
I'll be dining with Oscar Wilde and Caravaggio
Cocktails and conversation with Kant and Plato
Then with Bellini, Verdi and Rossini I'll take a Show
An interval tipple and discourse with Rousseau
An after party with Bakunin and Proudhon
Whisky and blues with Howlin Wolf til I'm gone
I shall breakfast the next day with Tz'u Hsi, Homer and Malcolm X
And take morning coffee with Gandhi and Marc Bolan from T.Rex
At noon a spicy ****** Mary with Mary Queen of Scots,
Freddie Mercury, Lou Reed, Picasso and lots of tequila shots
Lunch that day with Saladin, Karl and Groucho Marx
Then smoke a pipe with Newton whilst discussing quarks
Afternoon tea with Queen Victoria, Kipling and Colin Ward
Followed by a game of Tafl with a viking on a giant board
Dress for flamenco with Carmen Amaya (then dress the blisters)
Then pre-dinner drinks paid for by Geronimo and the Bronte sisters

So you see, if I'm wrong
And we actually move along
A fascinating after life awaits me

Yeah, when I'm gone from here
There'll be plenty gin and beer
Cucumber sandwich's and tea

If you wonder what I'm doing
Give your watch a quick viewing
Then just check this poem and you'll see
Just in case

self portrait in charcoal
Shaded Lamp Aug 2014
"Who are you to look at me that way?"
My naked reflection quips as I continue to stare
Defying the obvious wants of myself
How philosophical, quite the Voltaire
This
This is indeed a fine place to begin
"You've aged" I say "The coal shall not be kind"
"Your hand shall be the devil"* says the man in the mirror
"Your unskilled hand and your cursed mind"
I sigh an exaggerated sigh
Trying in vain to ease the tension
But he, he grits his teeth
Staring
Accusing
"And you can quit that immature rhyme"
Jabbing his finger at me
My eyes drop, as a scorned child
Charcoal touches the Tiziano paper
My model turns his back
An act of defiance
Or an expression of reality
He is always ahead
Leading me astray
This is the view with which he,
He has made me more familiar with
Where I can feel in my place...
**"Concentrate on the task in hand
He always thinks it is about him"

The air hangs heavy today
After last nights banging of the drum
Its strobe light pyrotechnics
The awe inspiring deluge
That washed even criminality from the streets
The old horse-chestnut tree who's shade I often steal
Proudly exposes its now swollen spiky fruit
We sigh together, this old friend and I
Another summer will soon come to pass
Let us drink its final rays
A quick check of the weather report confirms my suspicions.

Psycho Worship
Shaded Lamp Aug 2014
They walk aloof among us
Three percent of the population
They reluctantly dine with us
Quietly, stifling their frustration
They don't look back as you pass
They don't want your conversation
Empathy is just an alien concept
They focus only on self preservation

But here's where it gets strange

We worship them with huge salaries
We beg them to lead us the way
We ignore their blatant deceptiveness
We hand them our hard earned pay
If they say bail out the banksters
Or send your kids to a dubious war
We offer them our kids and cash
Knowing that they will ask for more

Stranger still

Our history has been sculpted by them
We raise bronze statues proudly in their honor
Through our plain idleness and cowardice
They can reduce this planet to a nuclear goner

"How did this madness occur?" We question
Why do psychos run banks and governments
Checking world history offers a suggestion
To why we (the population) are slaves for rent

We are simply afraid of those
That successfully navigate life
With reckless irresponsibility
Unchallenged by others strife
It is those destructive characters
We plead to take political risks
In return for obedience and cash
To buy more power and obelisks
I do like an obelisk, but rewarding  those lacking any moral compass  because they can perpetuate the continued *******  of  the many by the few seems like the lunatics are indeed running the asylum. Or am I mad?

Poetry is Anarchy
Shaded Lamp Aug 2014
Belonging to no masters
Bowing to no shiny idol
Formed as crashing waves
Tsunami and the tidal

Freeing enslaved minds
Requiring no police
From simplistic limerick
To powerful treatise

Capable to be inclusive
of every type of mind
From hideously critical
To the wise and kind

Between sanity - insanity
The line delightfully blurs
A home for loony writers
Saboteurs and connoisseurs

Ignore at poetry's peril
This most mediocre rhyme
The more that verse is policed
The less that it will chime
We all have a responsibility to appose division how ever hard it seems

Deep down in the inhospitable gloom
Monterey Canyon welcomes an expectant mother
Unnoticed in the distance a whirring sound
and two parallel laser beams
Miss Cellania finds a nook
That instinct suggests is right
A place to nest and brood
A place to guard and wait

1.4 kilometers up a research institute
Guided the unmanned submarine
Correlated masses of data
Stared at live video feed
A unique event unfolded
Capturing such a moment
in this dark abyss

Clinging to a vertical rock
Her precious babies waiting to hatch
Her final duty to
Wait

Wait

Wait

Wait

Wait
Protect from predators and the icy cold
And so she began the
Inky black wait

Detached

Alone

The research crew returned later that year
Miss Cellania dutifully kept her vigil
They returned again month after month
Still she stubbornly stuck to the task in hand
The months turned to years
And still she protected her unhatched young
Clung to the same vertical spot
With nothing to eat
Alert, defensive
Motherly
Patiently waiting
Wasting away
Waiting
Waiting

Untill

F i f t y   t h r e e   m o n t h s   l a t e r
Four and a half years
Finally her wait ended
With a flurry of independent life

**Then death.
For all mothers
The mothers instinctive love
is surely the most powerful force on earth

Dog (Part 3)
Shaded Lamp Aug 2014
As excited to return as he was to leave

Bright eyes such bright eyes

He senses my pain

We enter...

....

He skips to his drink

Downs it in one

Plods off to corner

Flops down in the cool shade

Raising a quizzical eyebrow

Then doses off with a contented sigh

....

Click, click of the mouse

The key to the asylum gate turns

The inmates scream out beyond my screen

Some live in heaven others in hell

Perversely I sit here

Omnipresent

My fingers jabbing at the keyboard

Harvesting the daily cruelties of mankind

Kind of "men"

I'm sick

At least sickened

I SEE WAR

LOTS OF HIDEOUS WAR

TWISTED CORPSES

INSANITY

GRIEF

I see twisted politicians pretending to care

Banks rubbing their hands with glee

Arms manufacturers celebrating bonuses

I see death equals money for some

Lots of death = Lots of money

Kids shelled on a beach, hospitals destroyed

"well they use human shields"

So that must mean those humans are worthless?

I see a death toll of 1400...and RISING!

I see no God

I see genocide

Clicking and typing just makes it worse

Calling each other "dogs" a repeated curse

Dogs!

Dehumanizing the enemy

For the purpose of easy slaughter.

The devoted mother and father

The innocent son and daughter

Where is this God?

Either/ any version will do

Or is it all about NOTHING!

Nothing but ******* and greed.

Click, click...

ISIS

When will humanity wake up
I hate war, the people that create it, the fools that perpetuate it and myself for being so impudent on the subject, but for all the good religion has brought the world ...it just needs to go! Yes, I am holding back.

Dog (Part 2)

The Sun fell down on us that morning

Feeding every living being with its radiant caress

My dog, his tail wagging

Like a metronome set to a Milonga beat

From the open windows of the neighbourhood

The scent of coffee and cinnamon

And idle conversation

The occasional baby cry and little dog yapping

A perfect Swedish Sunday morning for some

But I

I had nothing but death on my mind

The morning grew hot

Too hot for a dog and his mad English man

Back to the double glazed cave

I had something unpleasant to attend to
Part 3 cometh as soon as grow some ***** or I know how to write it

His squidgy wet nose prods my cheek

Ending another night’s sleep on the sofa

Our eyes meet

His happy, optimistic

Mine red, realistic, sad nearly sober

I stroke his silky chocolate brown head

An expression of expectation

Raised tan eye brows

Head cocked to one side

Long ears flopping

Happy mouth agape

Pink tongue lolling, panting

His mood is infectious

He spins to catch his elusive tail

Then checks for signs of my approval

He asks for nothing but love

I cast off my petty worries

Because for now...

I'll live in the here and now

A lesson instructed to me everyday

By my faithful canine companion

Before we face the world together

The last of the lavender
Shaded Lamp Jul 2014
Will this be the summer of our discontent
Or must we wait for more to understand
The dusty red and blue have merged
Whilst grasped in business' firm hand
The last of the lavender party politicians
The dawn of an enlightened age
Brought about by peaceful demonstration
Compassion replacing our rage
It's time rise and unite,
Time to balance the books
Time to listen to Chomsky
Time to trial the real crooks
Time to understand the state
Sees you as the enemy
it's generous, docile tax cow
Time for the remedy
A positive equal future awaits
Regardless of colour, age or gender
A resource based economy
Without need for ****** splendour
Sure,  it won't happen overnight
And Rome was not  built in a day
But today is the day to begin the fight
Leading our children to a better way
A way of life,  not slaves for rent
A devotion to knowledge and peace
A disposal of our disposable lives
Where we all are the same chess piece

My eyes were focused on the horizon
Where I planned to take you hand in hand
Your eyes were staring at your feet
Swallowed by the sinking sand

What is the difference between a jester
and a harlequin dressed fool
Your life just required a quick tune up
with this oh so disposable tool

Now as I reflect upon months of madness
anyone and everyone was in the loop
Everybody but this nobody
What a delightful/spiteful social group

You schemed over cocktails and canapes
With your bitter, single friends
Whilst I smiled, winked and raised a glass
Unaware that was where it ends

And everyone within

A selfish bunch of *******
That now ruin the nation.

Climate change was prophesised
About when they were in charge
But that was all idly ignored
Whilst their pension funds enlarged.

Free higher education
Afforded more equality
Just until they got in power
And conjured student fees

And housing market prices
Rocketing 4300pc in 40 years
Sorry that your kids are skint
You'd better get the beers.

And now your sitting pretty
Whilst we live like humble peasants
Unable to afford to raise our families
Relying on your presents.

Sure some of us have made it
By discarding moral values
But for those with global conscience
We've had nothing but bad news

The reckless capitalist party is over
Your generation were the last DJs
Now your kids must clean up after you
Your grandchildren are the ones that pays
Just venting a bit of fustration
