Trust is a flickering flame
Fragile
Illuminating
Slow-to-grow
Perfect to warm coldest of hearts
Freeze if wind snuffs out it's glow

Do not smoke if your fire is shaky
Can't inhale after it's smothered
Once out must start all over again
New flame
When that dies
Another

How wonderful it is to be aflame
I don't long to be brighter than the rest
I wish I could burn of my own free will
But perhaps this time, death is for the best.

If there is a day when I'm set ablaze
For a brief moment I might glow again
I hope I'm remembered as useful fire,
Perhaps my rebirth will not be in vain.
Acceptance of fate.

Ashes rise to the sky
Like fireflies
Reach a height then disappear
Such a short, bright life.

reach out and touch my soul
the flames in me burn hot as coal

I have the token
I paid the toll

you do not yet know your role
so you slow down

you lift me up, knock me around
why must I always play the clown?

I mend the tattered fabric of my heart on the other side of town
your heart sees mine like a tunnel throughout time
we communicate through movement and love through pantomime

I find it difficult to let it go
a few months have never seemed so long ago

I've come back to let you know
I'm on fire
As the flame flits about on the wick,
my eyes are drawn to her silhouette dancing on the wall, summoning me to see her being.

Everything my eyes beheld upon her
was straight out of a poetry book.

I read her stanzas—
line after silhouetted line—
she became lust to my tongue.

I only recite
her now.

every smoking, electric chemical
balled into coals burning red and hot
white knuckles and eyes like swords
sharp and blinding in the sun
i light a match in the forest
and he throws himself into me,
inferno on his lips, in bared teeth

are we fighting? am i failing?
to **** a dragon that's already killed me
your breath is hot. your scales, rough,
are calloused hands that grip my collar
im breathless, but i havent thrown a punch
i see you falter.

are we fighting?
are you sure?
i wrote poems using inktober prompts. here's day 12: dragon
Does it have to be this way?
Why did you go through with it?
You said you were leaving,
But I never really believed you.
Why would I believe you
When you said that you were done with me?
Because who believes those words?

Who believes
That the one they love will leave?
Who believes that the one they love will leave
In flurries of frenzied apologies,
In the slam of a door,
At the merest whisper of dissent in the ranks?

But, look at me now,
You two-faced, lying, cheating little boy.
Watch me rise from the ashes,
A phoenix reborn out of the pain you caused me,
A seedling out of the flames of your fire.

That’s how we were described:
Fire; unhealthy; too much, too fast.
And maybe we were, but God,
We were golden while we lasted.

But the gold sheen always fades.
The beautiful days must come to an end.
As do all the nights that we used to spend wrapped in the other’s sweet scent.

Because honey, we were never meant
To last forever, I guess.

Nothing ever really is.
I finally got over you, and god, it's a weight off of my shoulders.
Flame of the forest
Burns bright, envies not the green
Vibrant crimson blooms

I like to dance in the light of all the fires I started
just so the flames can wince at the sound of my laughter
just so what once burned me can see me now
Translated by Przemyslaw Musialowski 10/1/2019

The most beautiful is the one who at the candle top
lives alone and this poem is about him:

tiny flame - a metaphor for life.

Przemyslaw Musialowski 8/21/2008
Only poems that I've ever tried to write myself come from a time when I was 22 or 23 years old and there are only few of them. Enjoy!
